The article points to contemporary revaluations and reinterpretations taking place in the sphere of signification and construction of the cultural text whose vital feature becomes the emergence of semiotic, stylistic and media-related hybrids (advertising, the Internet). Hybrid identities inspire new forms of textuality characterised by the semiotic (semantic and syntactic) co-dependence of sign systems co-generating the message. Hybridization leads to vital changes in the functioning of the sign and of the text while a textual agreement becomes the main rule governing the new forms of textuality. The hybrid nature of commercial advertising is underlined by the latter’s ontic character: it is simultaneously a singular text, a genre, a form of discourse, an element of social interexchange and a component of the marketing process. Its multi-media, transsemiotic and intertextual nature combines textual forms until now considered stylistically incompatible or even self-excluding.

The article presents the works of an Italian writer, Alberto Savinio as an original model of literature “beyond clear-cut distinctions”. Drawing from the theories of Roland Barthes and Jacques Derrida, it demonstrates to what extent this particular model, based on a conscious deconstruction of both formal and conceptual structure of discourse, leads to the overthrow of a cultural stereotype due to a new reading of the opposition me/other, open/ closed, familiar/strange, known/unknown etc. To achieve that goal Savinio uses the titular “hybrid identities” and the strategy of hybridization of the depicted reality. Savinio, for a long time excluded from mainstream criticism, appears to be a very contemporary writer and his reinterpretation of conceptual basis of the Western culture turn him into a postmodernist author avant la lettre.

The aim of our study is to examine the multiple ways Greek immigrants position themselves in terms of cultural identity. Recent approaches to immigrants’ cultural identities tend to employ the concept of transnationalism to account for their hybridity and fluidity. Here, we intend to show that Georg Simmel’s ([1908] 1971) notion of the stranger is also relevant to the analysis and interpretation of such transnational identities. In this context, and drawing on positioning theory (Davies and Harré 1990), we argue that our informants mainly construct hybrid ‘stranger’ identities as both Greeks and Canadians or as feeling Greek but not when in Greece. Our data consists of 15 semi-structured interviews exploring the immigrant experiences of Greeks who migrated to Canada from the mid-1940s until the late 1970s. The analysis focuses on (a) the discursive means the informants employ to construct the hybrid identity of the ‘stranger’, and (b) the specific purposes they fulfill. It appears that hybrid self-positionings are achieved via the use of (a) the discourses of ‘being’ and ‘feeling’, (b) the disclaimer I am/feel Greek but…, (c) metaphors, (d) small stories, (e) the evaluative phrase this is difficult to answer…, and (f) repair mechanisms. We also argue that, via constructing ‘stranger’ identities, the immigrants of our data claim Greekness, on the one hand, and legitimize themselves as Canadian citizens on the other, while also distancing themselves from the Greeks living in Greece and the respective negative stereotypes.
W naszym artykule stawiamy sobie za cel zbadanie różnych sposobów, na jakie greccy imigranci budują swoją tożsamość kulturową. Najnowsze podejścia do tożsamości kulturowej imigrantów wykorzystują koncepcję transnacjonalizmu, w celu wyjaśnienia ich hybrydyczności i płynności. W pracy zamierzamy pokazać, że pojęcie "obcego" autorstwa Georga Simmela ([1908] 1971) można również odnieść do analizy i interpretacji tego typu transnarodowych tożsamości. W tym kontekście, bazując na teorii pozycjonowania Daviesa i Harré’go (1990), twierdzimy, iż nasi respondenci budują hybrydową tożsamość "obcego" głównie na dwa sposoby: i) jako jednocześnie Grecy i Kanadyjczycy, ii) jako Grecy, wtedy kiedy nie przebywają w Grecji. Nasze dane zostały zebrane w 15 częściowo ustrukturyzowanych wywiadach badających imigranckie doświadczenia Greków, którzy wyemigrowali do Kanady w okresie od połowy lat czterdziestych do późnych lat siedemdziesiątych. Analiza skupia się na: (a) środkach dyskursywnych stosowanych przez respondentów w celu skonstruowania swojej hybrydowej tożsamości "obcego" oraz (b) konkretnych celach, które te środki spełniają. Badania wydają się wskazywać, że hybrydowe samookreślenie osiąga się poprzez użycie: (a) zastrzeżenia: "Jestem / czuję się Grekiem, ale ...", (b) metafory, (c) krótkiego opowiadania i (d) mechanizmu naprawczego. Twierdzimy również, że poprzez budowanie tożsamości „obcego” uwzględnieni w badaniu imigranci uznają się za Greków a jednocześnie za obywateli kanadyjskich, a przy tym dystansują się od Greków żyjących w Grecji i odpowiadających im negatywnych stereotypów.

This instability is caused by a peculiar suspension between the recollection of a past project on the one hand and the awareness of irreducible locality and a marginalized position on the other. The dilemmas of Portuguese identity are explored on the basis of the works of four authors (Fernand Pessoa, Alvaro Campus, Eduardo Lourenco and Jose Saramago) who, at various moments in Portuguese history, tried to define new constituents of national identity. Those attempts, ranging from the myth of the Fifth Empire to the idea of Portugal's spiritual journey, point to the hybrid character of Portuguese identity, born at the intersection of national community and anachronic forms of self-projection which mixture may nevertheless lead to the emergence of a new form of national identity.

The study attempts to justify the thesis that concerns the need for education policy to create a possibility of independent identity choices. It was pointed out that the cultural borderland, in a natural way, enables the creation of a hybrid identity which is human potential but also raises personal and group problems. In addition, authorities and significant people were presented (among others Sokrat Janowicz, Ludwik Zamenhof, Samuel Pisar, Janusz Korczak, Piotr Lachmann, Wojciech Korfanty, Czesław Miłosz), indicating the formation and representation of a hybrid identity by them. The author drew attention to the conditions that should be assured, for activities that should be undertaken by education, so that man would not feel enslaved in the process of shaping identity, but felt support in the process of creating and realizing his hybrid potential.
W opracowaniu podjęto próbę uzasadnienia tezy, która dotyczy potrzeby stwarzania przez politykę edukacyjną możliwości dokonywania samodzielnych wyborów tożsamościowych. Wskazano, że kulturowe pogranicze w sposób naturalny umożliwia kreowanie hybrydowej tożsamości, która stanowi potencjał człowieka, lecz także rodzi problemy osobiste i grupowe. Ponadto przedstawiono autorytety i osoby znaczące (są to m.in. Sokrat Janowicz, Ludwik Zamenhof, Samuel Pisar, Janusz Korczak, Piotr Lachmann, Wojciech Korfanty, Czesław Miłosz), wskazując przy tym na kształtowanie się i reprezentowanie przez nich tożsamości hybrydowej. Zwrócono uwagę na warunki, jakie powinny być zapewnione, oraz na działania, jakie powinna podejmować edukacja, aby człowiek nie czuł się zniewolony w procesie kształtowania się tożsamości, lecz odczuwał wsparcie w procesie powstawania i realizowania swojego potencjału hybrydowego.

The paper focuses on the nexus of experience – memory – identity, to discuss the ways in which mediatisation and medialisation of experiences transform the status, structures and roles of memory and to develop the concept of hybrid identity. The author analyses several theories dealing with this issue in order to demonstrate that despite developing some useful terms and concepts, and providing an outlook on recent social changes, they did not notice the consequences of the processes of transformation of contemporary culture from media culture to cyberculture based on interactive virtual practices.
Autor artykułu poddaje analizie splot doświadczenia, pamięci i tożsamości, by podjąć dyskusję na temat procesów, w ramach których mediatyzacja i medializacja doświadczeń przekształcają status, struktury i funkcje pamięci, oraz aby rozważyć koncepcję hybrydycznej tożsamości. Autor omawia szereg teorii podejmujących tę problematykę i wykazuje, że mimo iż wykształ-ciły one niezbędne kategorie i koncepcje badawcze, jak również zbudowały interesujące wizje współczesnych społeczeństw, to nie zdołały uchwycić, a tym bardziej wykorzystać w swych rozważaniach procesów, które przekształcają współczesne kultury, przeprowadzając je ze sta-nu kultury medialnej do formy cyberkultury ufundowanej na interaktywnych praktykach wir-tualnych.

They all contribute to the posthumanist literary genre and to better comprehension of condition posthumana as a leading utopia in the age of advanced technologies. The author argues for affinities between the human and the non-human brain, far beyond the anthropocentrism and anthropodenialism controversy.

The present article discusses a hybrid identity of two main characters from the novel The Forgotten by Élie Wiesel. Having left Europe, Elhanan Rosenbaum settles down in the United States. Even though he adapts to his new surroundings, he perceives himself chiefly as a Jew. When he begins to suffer from an incurable disease that causes him to lose his memory, he compels his son, who was brought up in the USA, to go to Romania. The main goal of this trip is to rescue the memory of the past from oblivion: memory as an indicator of Jewishness. Moreover, thanks to the expedition, Malkiel succeeds to strengthen his own Jewish identity.

W pracy analizowana jest zależność między założeniami aksjologicznymi krytyki postkolonialneja kryteriami wartościującymi, przyjętymi w opisie literatury. Główna teza tekstu głosi, żebadania postkolonialne, uznające obecne w literaturze współczesnej kryteria wartościujące jakorepresywne w sensie politycznym, jednocześnie same przyjmują kryteria zaangażowania politycznego, jako relewantne narzędzie służące ocenie wartości tekstu literackiego. W części końcowej pracy przedstawiono rozważania poświęcone wpływowi specyfiki badań postkolonialnychna stan literatury i krytyki literackiej. Przedstawiono tu trzy wnioski: 1) literatura serbskamusi się stać literaturą hybrydyczną, aby mogła się przyjąć na gruncie postkolonialnej koncepcjiliteratury, co oznacza, że powinna się wyzbyć swojego narodowego przedznaku; 2) postkolonialnakoncepcja literatury zainicjuje w literaturze serbskiej przesunięcia tematyczne na korzyśćsytuacji hybrydycznych – czyli afirmacji Megalopolis ze strony przybyszów z prowincji; 3) koncepcja literatury postkolonialnej doprowadzi do zideologizowania krytyki literackiej za pośrednictwem fenomenu krytyki inkwizycyjnej, czyli takiej, której punkt wyjścia stanowi aprioryczna niższość moralna tekstu literackiego.
This work ana-lyses the relationship between axiological setups of postcolonial critique and virtue criteria set up by modern literature. The essential thesis is that postcolonial studies criticize the virtue crite-ria of modern literature as politically repressive, while at the same time they themselves estab-lish the criterion of political activism as a relevant criterion for valuing the worth of literary work. In conclusion of this work, the analysis is focused on the repercussions of this feature of postcolonial studies and their effect on modern Serbian literature and critique practice. Three conclusions are derived: 1. Serbian literature in order to be accepted within the domain of the postcolonial concept of literature has to become a hybrid literature, thus it has to denounce its national prefix 2. The postcolonial concept is going to initiate a thematic shift within Serbian literature to direction of thematic hybrid situation – affirmation of Megalopolis by newcomers from the countryside 3. The concept of postcolonial literature is going to lead to ideology of literal critics via the phenomenon of critique inquisition: critique that derives from a priori moral inferiority of literal text.

Artykuł poświęcony jest współczesnym dylematom edukacji międzykulturowej związanym z przemianami zarówno globalnej rzeczywistości, jak i tożsamości. Po omówieniu głównych idei edukacji międzykulturowej autor rekonstruuje zjawiska odnoszące się do asymilacji i izolacjonizmu mniejszości rasowych oraz etnicznych we współczesnych wielokulturowych społeczeństwach. Przywołuje różne konteksty enklawizacji, samowykluczania się i mniejszościowego etnocentryzmu oraz esencjalizmu, także w szkolnictwie, prowadzące do potwierdzania reprodukcji ekonomicznej i kulturowej. Pokazuje, w jaki sposób izolacjonizm mniejszości utrudnia realizację celów edukacji międzykulturowej. Następnie przedstawia przemiany współczesnej tożsamości, odnoszące się do procesów jej hybrydyzacji i wewnętrznej kulturowej heterogeniczności. Rekonstruuje wynikające z niej nurty krytyki edukacji międzykulturowej, dotyczące w szczególności idei dialogu między kulturami. Prezentuje różnorodne dylematy wynikające z „uwikłania” edukacji międzykulturowej w przemiany współczesnej wielokulturowej rzeczywistości. Przedstawia również wyzwania dla tej edukacji związane z pandemią Covid-19. W konkluzji autor przedstawia pozytywny potencjał dynamiki rozwojowej współczesnej edukacji międzykulturowej.
The article comprises an analysis of intercultural education dilemmas related to changes of both the global reality and identity. First, the author presents the main ideas of intercultural education and reconstructs the phenomenon of assimilation and isolationism of racial and ethnic minorities in contemporary multicultural societies. He recalls various contexts of enclavization, self-exlclusion, essentialism, also in the schooling system, which lead towards the confirmation of economic and cultural reproduction. The contradiction between minority isolationism and materialization of multicultural education ideas is stressed. Next, the changes of contemporary identity in relation to its hybrydization and inner cultural heterogenity are analysed. Moreover, the author presents trends in criticism of intercultural education, especially towards the idea of dialogue between cultures. He considers various dilemmas which result from the entanglement of intercultural education in the changes of the contemporary multicultural reality. New challenges for intercultural education are considered in the context of Covid-19 pandemic. In conclusion, the author emphasizes his conviction that contemporary intercultural education has a very positive developmental potential in the contemporary world.

The globalization and migration processes are typical features of our societies that aect policy, economy and the culture of each country. Migration involves many challenges: identity issues and well-being of migrants in negotiating new roles and values. At the social level, migration involves demographic, educational, sociological and employment aspects. The reasons of migration are numerous, including the economic as the major one. The article discusses the ‘food voice’ as a substitute for verbal communication in the memoir Leaving Little Havana. A Memoir of Miami’s Cuban Ghetto by Cecilia M. Fernandez (2013). The culinary landscape of the memoir is examined through the anthropological perspective as the foodscape overlaps with the diasporic experience of the protagonists. Foodways show how Cuban identity is constructed in response to social and political developments. The geography of the memoir determines foodscapes by fusing Cuban cuisine with American regional cooking styles. The literary portrayal shows Cubans’ flexible attitude towards acculturation as their Floribbean cuisine maintains continuity with Caribbean cooking styles but, at the same time, it presents readiness to embrace new ingredients available in Florida. The emerging new food culture indicates the formation of complex hybrid identities.
Artykuł analizuje tzw. „język potraw” (‘food voice’) w pamiętnikach Leaving Little Havana. A Memoir of Miami’s Cuban Ghetto autorstwa Cecili M. Fernandez (2013). Krajobraz kulinarny pamiętników jest ukazany w perspektywie antropologicznej, a sceny spożywania korespondują z doświadczeniami bohaterów, uchodźców z Kuby. „Język potraw” odzwierciedla proces kształtowania się tożsamości etnicznej diaspory kubańskiej pod wpływem transformacji społeczno-politycznych. Geograficzne umiejscowienie bohaterów pamiętników wyznacza mapę potraw i sygnalizuje fuzje kulinarne zachodzące pomiędzy kuchnią kubańską amerykańską kuchnią regionalną. Pamiętniki ilustrują elastyczne podejście Kubańczyków do akulturacji, a tzw. kuchnia Floribbean wprawdzie podtrzymuje style kulinarne Karaibów, ale też wykazuje otwartość na nowe, dostępne na Florydzie składniki potraw. Powstająca nowa kultura kulinarna wskazuje na kształtowanie się złożonych tożsamości hybrydowych.

Wojna rosyjsko-ukraińska często jest traktowana jako konflikt lokalny dwóch krajów postradzieckich na krańcach Europy Wschodniej. Inwazję rosyjską można jednak uznać za konfrontację w ramach kiedyś wspólnej cywilizacji prawosławnej. Samoizolacja Rosji wyraźnie świadczy, że obecnie kraj ten zamyka się w kręgu „ruskiego miru”, a Ukraina podąża w kierunku cywilizacji zachodniej. To pozwala mówić o swoistym „rozwodzie cywilizacji”. W tym kontekście, na przykładzie polskiej mniejszości na wschodniej Ukrainie, autor rozważa problem tak zwanej rozmytej / hybrydowej tożsamości obywateli Ukrainy.
The Russian-Ukrainian war is often treated as a local conflict between two post-Soviet countries on the edge of Eastern Europe. Despite appearances, the Russian invasion can be considered as a confrontation within the once common Orthodox civilization. Russia’s self-isolation clearly shows that this country is now closing in the circle of the ‘Russian mire’, and Ukraine is moving towards Western civilization. This allows us to talk about a kind of “divorce of civilization”. In this context, on the example of the Polish minority in Eastern Ukraine, the author considers the problem of the so-called fuzzy/hybrid identity of Ukrainian citizens.

Opis:
Context impacts a start-up founder’s behavior, activities and choices. This study uses the three founder identities introduced by Fauchart and Gruber (2011) Darwinian, communitarian and missionary to classify Israeli start-up founders who have created diverse products. It presents an innovative context-based interpretation of Tikkun Olam – which in Hebrew means ‘making the world a better place’ as a possible explanation for the relatively large number of Israeli start-up founders who were found to have a hybrid identity.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the linguistic and cultural identity of the Chicano community on the basis of two pieces of hybrid prose, i.e. Borderlands/ La Frontera. The New Mestiza written by Gloria Anzaldúa and Puppet by Margarita Cota-Cárdenas. In order to provide some basic features of the above mentioned community, some of its historical, political, social and cultural issues are addressed. The analysis of both Chicano/a texts reveals, in the first place, the heterogeneous nature of the community. Secondly, they illustrate myriads of linguistic procedures evoking the Mexican-American “border space” condition and Spanish–English code–switching, including dialects, some subaltern languages: Spanglish, Pachuco and Chicano, as well as the Nahuatl language. The texts also expose a natural translational condition of the Chicano individuals in Anzaldúa’s essays and poems along with a linguistic attitude of the Chicano fictional characters in Cota-Cárdenas’ novella.
