Humans today have the ability to use language. The common ancestor of chimpanzees and humans probably did not. During recent decades evolutionary linguists have attempted to explain how the gap between a non-linguistic ancestor and our linguistic species was bridged. In this direction, it has become common to invoke the notion of a protolanguage as a stable intermediary stage in the evolution of language. A key dispute among the currently-available hypotheses of protolanguage is represented by the distinction between holistic and synthetic accounts: did human protolanguage consist of holistic utterances – later segmented into single words – or did it start with simple units that were added together into more complex structures? The synthetic account is generally recognized as “the standard model,” thus assuming that the earliest forms of a presumed protolanguage were compositional, that is built up from single words, where one word corresponds to one concept. However, recent years have seen the consolidation of the alternative idea: each element of a protolanguage would have been linguistically unanalyzable and referred to a whole situation. This paper presents the case of formulaic language as evidence – a living linguistic fossil – which corroborates arguments in support of a holistic protolanguage account.

The relativistic models of the political nature cannot fulfil the indispensable criteria of the ethical dimension of the trans-modern era. If we need a wider definition of bio-ethics we have to answer three basic questions and such people need to live a moral life and make good ethical decisions. What are my obligations concerning recruitment of different people whose life can depend on my actions? How can I contribute to serve common good for the good public interest as the member of society? Then they will have to answer the questions and be responsible for bio-policy. Bio-policy in the bioethic dimensions will have to offer the global society of the all-European system of the rational connection to save the mankind from extinction on Earth. You will have to create and carry out supranational projects to eliminate people’s destructive behaviours. Relativistic political models are not able to fulfil the necessary ethical dimension of the transmodern society by their fundamentals. If more widely defined bioethics has to answer three basic questions: What personality should I be to live a moral life and take good ethical decisions?; What are my obligations and duties towards other people whose lives can be influenced by my activity?; How can I, as a member of the society, contribute to a common wealth or common interest? Then these questions should be answered also by a responsible biopolitician. Holistic or whole person medicine perceives a personality of a patient within bio-psycho-socio-spiritual dimensions. This view requires a favourable all-society climate and tolerance. Chinese traditional philosophy with its responsibility for life in the context of minimalist multicultural ethos may be incentive individual metaphysical heritage also for a Slovak politician, voter, heatlh worker, and patient. The naturo-dialectical philosophy of life of the classical Chinese social conscience speaks about ethical principles and morality of meek obedience of a man towards the laws of nature and the universe of haven as about a life regulating macroorganism, an internal part of which a man is, too. The ideals of harmonious unity and mutual modesty emphasise the ideal of accentuation of all-society interests over the interests of an individual. The systemic view perceives the world on the base of relationships and integration, the cohesion of live organisms is non-linear, therefore the live organisms work in unbalance with autoregulation. This characteristic applies to biopsyche as well as to a socio-cultural level. The holistic approach to health and healing draws on traditional cultures, e.g. on the phenomenon of medicine-men practice. The East Asian model of health consists in the integration of the psychological and social factors into the system of health care, it calculates for the model of the dynamic balance. The future system of health care should consist in an effective system of preventive health care adopting a personal and social responsibility for health. The health care policy should include the legislation for prevention of health risks and also the social policy. A profound ecological perceptivity, observation and education are the preconditions for the application of the political model on the base of the global biopolitics.

In this conceptual article we present a modular model of holistic education. Within this approach, an educational activity (and a child’s learning that derives from it) can be characterized in three dimensions: 1) safety, inclusion and participation; 2) interaction, cognition and representation; and 3) affective action leading to imagination and creativity. A holistic approach nurturing the full cognitive development of a child requires going beyond what a conventional school offers, but still presumes designed but liberating processes. We provide a neurobiological argument for holistic education supported by evidence for the featured three dimensions of holistic education along with illustrative examples.

The aim of the text is to introduce BRIDGING, an international project that involves professionals working in educational institutions (kindergarten, school or crèche), academic and cultural institution from Poland, Portugal, Finland and Belgium. The project aims to improve the quality of practices in early childhood education through participation of children, teachers, cultural and academic staff in artistic projects in public spaces. Crucial part of BRIDGING is to promote various ways of communication of children and adults using the concept of citizenship in the context of holistic approach. Additionally our intention is to introduce the preliminary results of the first Polish part of the BRIDGING project research. The study was conducted to investigate how the project is perceived by kindergarten teachers. Although only the first results are presented here, it is already quite evident what the specific areas of teachers’ sense of vocational self-efficacy are. The results show that our respondents value the experiences brought to them by the project. In their opinion BRIDGING gave them an opportunity to acquire knowledge about their city, neighbourhood and the partners’ countries. They also stated that the project has improved their skills of using ICT tools and various art techniques.

Holistic education is a concept whose assumptions speak of the whole educational interactions of an exogenous and endogenous nature. The text postulates the thesis that it is possible to view the various areas of knowledge, including mathematics, holistically. Two views show arguments that confirm this possibility. The need to adapt mathematical education to students’ cognitive levels, work in small groups or openness to beauty, as well as fascinating examples of mathematical descriptions of phenomena in nature are basic needs of early classes math education. They also develop competencies relevant to the holistic approach to education, enabling the building of coherent mathematical knowledge in the minds of students and their understanding of the mathematical nature of the world.

Introduction/background: The aim of the article is to check whether the holistic approach in the case of high-tech industries is the optimal solution in the field of M&A process analysis. Aim of the paper: Two research hypotheses were formulated: H1 – It is impossible to create an effective universal holistic model for even a single high-tech industry. H2 – The key element of the process of assessing the validity of M&A processes is the potential use value of the acquired knowledge and/or technology. Materials and methods: A quantitative analysis of articles relating to holistic models and sources relating to the specificity of specific market M&A processes were used. Results and conclusions: The results obtained revealed that the analysis of selected mergers and acquisitions allowed it to be stated that the key aspect determining the success or failure of the M&A process is the value of the acquired knowledge and technology and its applicability within the newly created organisational structures. It was also found that holistic models, apart from being cost-intensive and time-consuming, are also characterised by a lack of standardisation of the model and the lack of assessment at both the level of one industry and within a single branch of the economy. Thus, the creation and application of universal holistic models in high-tech industries may turn out to be ineffective and lead to decision errors at the level of the company's development strategy.

W ostatnich dwudziestu latach zmieniało się podejście do oceny przedsięwzięć techniczno-organizacyjnych, szczególnie tych, które cechują się najwyższym poziomem nowoczesności. O ile jeszcze w początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych dominowało tzw. podejście klasyczne oparte na typowych ocenach inwestycji to pojawienie się tzw. nowej ekonomii, łączącej elementy ekonomiczne, środowiskowe i społeczne, spowodowało całkowitą zmianę i od tego momentu zaczęły dominować metody kompleksowe. Szczególnie tego typu podejście okazało się przydatne do oceny nowatorskich przedsięwzięć techniczno-organizacyjnych np. z obszarów informatyki, biomedycyny, zaawansowanej chemii itp.
In last twenty years the approach to the assessment of technical-organisational projects was evaluated. It is connected especially with development of the high innovative projects. Twenty years ago dominated classical approach that based on typical methods of investment analysis. The times of new economy and economics introduced new elements connected with wide scope of aspects: economic, environmental and social. It caused huge change. Since then comprehensive methods dominate in project assessment. In particular, this approach proved to be useful for the evaluation of innovative technical and organizational projects such as in the area of computer science, biomedicine, advanced chemistry, etc.

The paper presents the idea and need for the holistic modelling of machine tools. The complexity of such modelling is illustrated for a 5-axis machining centre. The need to model errors in the controllable axes of machine tools with rotational and linear motion drives is indicated. The physical dependences having a bearing on the state of deformations produced by temperature and dynamic forces, as well as the assumptions and computational modelsof shift generation in the high-speed bearing sets of spindles, and models of the behaviour of the ball screw are presented. Moreover, the results of experimental studies of the thermal behaviour of linear motor sets and guideways with rolling blocks are reported.

In the article the problems related to outer personal marketing as the fundamental element of the holistic marketing orientation were presented. The essence of holistic attitude was shown and its role in the effective marketing activities directed to employees of a scientific organization was underlined. The special attention was paid to the key role of potential empoyees’ knowledge about this approach. On the base of the results of the empirical researches one can state that its level is very low. It is one of the main barriers in the process of outer personal marketing implementing in the case of a scientific organization as well as in the case of others organizations.
W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia związane z zewnętrznym marketingiem personalnym jako integralnym elementem holistycznej orientacji marketingowej. Pokazano istotę podejścia holistycznego oraz jego znaczenie w skutecznym prowadzeniu działań marketingowych ukierunkowanych na pracowników organizacji naukowej. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na kluczową cechę takiego podejścia, jaką jest perspektywa całościowa, dzięki której równorzędnie traktuje się wszystkich aktualnych i potencjalnych partnerów organizacji. Podkreślono również kluczową rolę posiadania odpowiednich zasobów wiedzy przez potencjalnych pracowników na temat omawianej koncepcji, wskazując, że w praktyce jej poziom jest niestety zbyt niski, co potwierdziły wyniki przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych. Jest to jedną z podstawowych barier utrudniających implementację zewnętrznego marketingu personalnego, bez której żadnej organizacji, w tym także żadnej organizacji naukowej, nie można określić mianem zorientowanej holistycznie.

Artykuł jest próbą częściowej analizy przebiegu procesu tworzenia się, a następnie kształtowania idei zrównoważonego rozwoju środowiska. Autor wskazuje na błędy, powstałe w początkowym okresie tworzenia szczegółowego programu dla tej idei. Konsekwencją tego, były nieprawidłowości w zarządzaniu środowiskiem naturalnym w Europie, wyrządzając w nim wiele szkód. Autor próbuje znaleźć, merytoryczne przyczyny powstania tych błędów. W artykule, porusza trudną problematykę z pogranicza różnych nauk, związaną z poznawaniem środowiska. Główną ideą autora jest podjęcie próby holistycznego podejścia do problemu edukacji przyrodniczej. Podejście to ma gwarantować, lepsze rozumienie środowiska. Ma ono również wpłynąć na uruchomienie nowej jakości w jego zarządzaniu i rozwiązywaniu narastających sytuacji kryzysowych w środowisku, a tym samym prawidłowe kształtowanie i wdrażanie idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. W swoim wywodzie, podpiera się znanymi poglądami głoszonymi przez takich filozofów, jak: Forbes, Smuts, Tansley, Haeckel, Birge, jak również teoriami z pogranicza ekologii i filozofii, takich jak: teoria rozwoju, poziomów integracji, czy synergizm.
The article is an attempt at a partial analysis of the development process and next, the shaping of the sustainable development concept. The author points out mistakes made during the initial period of creating a detailed program to the said concept, the consequence of which was the improper management natural environment in Europe causing to it great damage. In the article, the author is trying to find quintessential causes for the said errors. The article touches on the difficult problematic issues from the borderline of various areas of study relating to learning about the environment. The primary concept of the author is the attempt to undertake a holistic approach to the problem of natural science education. This approach is to guarantee a better understanding of the environment. It is also to impact the launch of a new quality of its management and solve the growing number of critical situations in the environment and by the same, the proper shaping and implementation of the sustainable environment concept. In his presentation, the author backs his arguments with well known views of the following philosophers: Forbes, Smuts, Tansley, Haeckel, Birge as well as with theories from the borderline of ecology and philosophy such as: the development theory, integration levels and synergism.

Countries in transition, such as Serbia, have been going through obligatory system reforms, including the reform of the healthcare system. As a rule, occupational health becomes marginalized by the authorities who decide on medical care. In spite of the fact that this branch of medicine cares for working population that mostly carries the burden of transition, when material situation equals the existential minimum, its potentials are not recognized. On the other hand, the World Health Organization makes a remark that such population’s health is undermined now more than ever, and adopts a binding global plan for member countries and their experts in occupational health to take urgent measures for overall working people’s health according to their needs. It seems that former work method of biomedicine specialists could not realize such ambition. This paper discusses the possibilities of occupational health future orientation toward holistic medicine, for the sake of workers’ well-being and better quality of their lives, then creation of more humane society and vocational affirmation. Health promotion at workplace and salutogenic concept may have crucial roles. This concept is a huge challenge for academic public and vocational practitioners in poor countries in transition that are already burdened with the current economic and financial crisis. Each in their own way, helped by self-education and education, without big material investments, together they may take their countries to the road of health, the road still rarely taken, yet more secure.

Opis:
One of the main views which appears throughout prof. Pawlak's paper is one initially expressed by Anna Zofia Krygowska, the most influential researcher of mathematics education in Poland. According to this view - the teacher and his preparation, and thus the problems of teaching mathematics, are never "ahistorical" (Krygowska, 1981, as quoted by Pawlak, 2019). In other words, the problems of mathematics education cannot be viewed outside of their historical and cultural contexts. Practically, this means that when we design our teacher training courses, we cannot, e.g., ignore the current scientifc and societal developments and especially the increased use of mobile technologies even for everyday purposes. Prof. Pawlak recognizes this issue and suggests using technology as an aid to motivate students. This brings us to the second overarching view of the paper, namely the importance of motivating students to be involved in mathematics.

The article describes the history of a specific type of the University of the Third Age which was developed in Poland and spread out to other countries in the region. The author describes the genesis of this type of education as well as the criteria which governed changes in educational institutes for seniors. Above all, the article discusses the innovative solutions, education practices, and trends which initiated the post-2000 boom in adult education in Poland. The author summarizes and structures the experience gained while working as the Director of the University of the Third Age at the University of Wroclaw in years 2006–2016, with particular reference to the national and international perspective. Remarks of the reflexive practitioner are compared and contrasted with ultra-local trends and take the form of meta-analysis. The results lead to one fundamental conclusion – in Poland a specific model for the education of seniors was formed. We may describe it as bottom-up, democratic, holistic and flexible.

Artykuł jest próba częściowej analizy przebiegu procesu tworzenia się, a następnie kształtowania idei zrównoważonego rozwoju środowiska. Autor wskazuje na błędy, powstałe w początkowym okresie tworzenia szczegółowego programu dla tej idei. Konsekwencja tego, były nieprawidłowości w zarządzaniu środowiskiem naturalnym w Europie, wyrządzając w nim wiele szkód. W artykule autor porusza trudną problematykę z pogranicza różnych nauk. Główną ideą jest podjecie próby holistycznego podejścia do problemu edukacji przyrodniczej. Podejście to ma gwarantować, lepsze rozumienie środowiska. Ma ono również wpłynąć na uruchomienie nowej jakości w jego zarządzaniu i rozwiązywaniu narastających sytuacji kryzysowych w środowisku, a tym samym prawidłowe kształtowanie i wdrażanie idei zrównoważonego rozwoju. W swoim wywodzie, podpiera się znanymi poglądami głoszonymi przez takich filozofów, jak: Forbes, Smuts, Tansley, Haeckel, Birge, jak również teoriami z pogranicza ekologii i filozofii, takich jak: teoria rozwoju, poziomów integracji, czy synergizm.
The article is an attempt at a partial analysis of the development process and the shaping of the sustainable development concept. The author points out mistakes made during the initial period of creating a detailed program of sustainable development, the consequence of which was the improper management of the natural environment in Europe, which caused considerable environmental damage. The article touches on difficult problematic issues from the perspective of various areas of study. The main aim of the author is to apply a holistic approach to the problem of natural science education. This approach is meant to guarantee a better understanding of the environment. It is also intended to have an impact in relation to the quality of environmental management and the growing number of critical situations in the environment, by ensuring the proper shaping and implementation of the sustainable environment concept. The author backs up his arguments with well-known views forwarded by Forbes, Smuts, Tansley, Haeckel, Birge as well as with theories drawn from ecology and philosophy (examples include development theory, and the theory of integration levels and synergism).

In the past, many so-called management concepts were not very successful because of their fragmented approach. This is also true for topics like safety and quality. Here, technical aspects often predominated while disregarding the equally important need for a change of attitude. On the other hand, awareness was created by timely limited programmes. The paper deals with integrating quality and safety in holistic (management) concepts, which are described first before being discussed in detail.

W pracy dokonano przeglądu modelu teorii i zastosowań procesora energii o skończonym potencjale destrukcji. Najważniejszym zastosowaniem wszelkich odmian tego procesora jest możliwość holistycznego modelowania ewolucji i dynamiki części mechanicznej różnego typu systemów, również mechatronicznych. Idea procesora energii jest na tyle płodna i uniwersalna że można wykorzystać ją do modelowania jednomodalnego zużywania się materiału, z jednej strony, a z drugiej do modelowania samopodobnych hierarchicznie zorganizowanych systemów złożonych z możliwością analitycznego badania rozpływu energii.
Mechanical subsystems are key elements of civil and mechanical engineering as well as mechatronic products. Independently of the size of subsystem they may limit the safety and functionality of the main system, so we have to know the long term and short term behavior of mechanical subsystem. The main idea of holistic modeling is illustrated in the paper, and energy processor model can be digested more from some references. But it seems to the author that inference properties of holistic modeling and energy processor models are not widely known and used. Due to its fractal properties, they can be used to model the behavior of the part as well as the whole system, enabling to trace the energy flow, dissipation and wear inside the system.

The article is an attempt to define the problems of holistic thinking in terms of environmental education. Development of appropriate methodology in this matter should ensure a better understanding of the environment, but also indicate the mistakes made so far in the process of environmental education. All these activities should create a new quality in the issues of land management. This should lead to more effective crisis management in the natural environment on the ideals of sustainable development. Preparation of appropriate methods of teaching about the resources of the natural environment, consistent with the idea of holistic education, becoming one of the most important goals we are currently facing. Achieving these objectives is necessary in light of the tasks that are put in the idea of sustainable development. Develop a unified methodology for the holistic environmental education, environmental philosophy and environmental ethics should ultimately affect not only the state of knowledge regarding these issues but also create future substantive grounds for studies of the process of pro-environmental attitudes.

A number of definitions and interpretations of the risk concept exist. Many of these are probability-based. In this paper we present and discuss a structure for characterising the definitions, which is founded on a clear distinction between (a) risk as a concept based on events, consequences and uncertainties; (b) risk as a modelled, quantitative concept; and (c) risk descriptions. The discussion leads to a holistic framework for conceptualising and assessing risk, which is based on risk defined by (a), and the probability-based definitions of risk can be viewed as related model parameters and/or risk descriptions. Two ways of detailing the framework are outlined: the relative frequency-based approach and the Bayesian approach. The Framework provides clear guidance on how to think when conceptualising and assessing risk in practice. Such guidance is strongly needed for the risk analysis discipline which is young and characterised by many different risk perspectives and approaches.
