Adam Chmielowski, znany jako św. brat Albert, był malarzem, mistykiem i sługą ubogich. Wywarł szczególny wpływ na współczesnych mu artystów, pisarzy, uczonych, ziemian i arystokratów. Jego osobowość fascynowała, a wzór życia stanowił wyzwanie dla współczesnych. Tematem artykułu są relacje między nim a Andrzejem Szeptyckim, lwowskim metropolitą Kościoła greckokatolickiego. Łączyła ich wieloletnia przyjaźń, z inspiracji hierarchy Chmielowski dokończył swój najbardziej znany obraz – Ecce homo. Wspomnienia metropolity ukazują wielowymiarowość franciszkańskiego doświadczenia wpisanego w biografię świętego. Są też próbą uchwycenia osobowości artysty.
Adam Chmielowski, known to the world as St. Brother Albert, was a painter, mystic and servant of the poor. He had a special influence on contemporary artists, writers, scholars, landowners and aristocrats. His personality was fascinating, and his pattern of life was a challenge for his contemporaries. The content of the article is the relationship between him and Andrzej Szeptycki (Andrey Sheptytsky), the Lviv metropolitan of the Greek-Catholic Church. They shared a long friendship, inspired by the hierarch, Chmielowski finished his most famous painting – Ecce Homo. The memories of the metropolitan show the multidimensionality of the Franciscan experience inscribed in the saint’s biography. The notes are also an attempt to capture the artist’s personality.

W artykule podjęto temat oryginalnego pojmowania religijności odzwierciedlonego w cyklu powieściowym Czerwone Koło Aleksandra Sołżenicyna. Autor artykułu koncentruje się na kilku wybranych aspektach charakterystyki cara Mikołaja II, które zostały wyakcentowane w utworze. Na przykładzie postaci ostatniego rosyjskiego imperatora ukazano Sołżenicynowską ocenę religijności w odniesieniu do dobra Rosji. Badania ukazują, że głównym kryterium literackiej oceny postawy religijnej postaci historycznych, niezależne od ich rzeczywistego heroizmu cnót, a nawet oficjalnie uznanej świętości, dla Sołżenicyna jest przede wszystkim stosunek do ojczyzny. Mikołaj II jest odpowiedzialny za katastrofę Rosji i nawet jego męczeństwo, przedstawione symbolicznie w ostatniej księdze Marca Siedemnastego, nie zmienia tego krytycznego obrazu. Ostatecznie zaś narratorskie rozważania o religijności mają charakter dydaktyczny, a ich odniesieniem jest współczesność rosyjska.
The article deals with the issue of the religious position of individuals in ‘the Red Wheel’ by A. Solzhenitsyn. The main attention is focused on features of tsar Nicholas II. Analyzing an example of the last Russians Emperor proves that Solzhenitsyn presents the religious theme from patriotic point of view. Despite individual devotion, honesty and even officially admitted holiness of Nicholas II Solzhenitsyn shows rather negative sides of the tsar. According to the writer the Emperor takes responsibility for spreading the revolution and the catastrophe of Russia. The Solzhenitsyn attitude is revealed in the narrative technique, particularly the usage of irony in characterizing of figures. Even tsar’s martyrdom, which is shown in the last part of ‘March 1917’, doesn’t change the specific critical picture of him in the Solzhenitsyn’s epic.
В статье поднимается вопрос понимания религиозности в романном цикле Красное Колесо Александра Солженицына. Автор статьи фокусирует свое внимание на нескольких аспектах характеристики царя Николая II, на которые делается акцент в произведении. На примере лица последнего русского императора видно, что Солженицын оценивает индивидуальную религиозность с точки зрения добра России. Проведенные исследования показывают, что в произведении главным критерием оценки религиозной позиции человека, несмотря на индивидуальные подвиги или даже официальное признание святости, остается отношение к отечеству. По Солженицыну, царь несет ответсвенность за катастрофу России и даже мученичество Николая, представленное в последней книге Марта 17, не меняет общего критического образа.

Lb 6,22–27 to kompozycja (post)kapłańska. Badacze traktowali jednak samo błogosławieństwo (Lb 6,24–26) jako tekst zapożyczony z innego, starszego źródła. W istocie znaleźć w nim można szereg analogii do tekstów z Mezopotamii, Ugarit, a nawet z Egiptu i literatury hetyckiej. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza literatury epistolarnej. Niemniej zastosowane w nim idiomy i zwroty mogą pochodzić także z rodzimej tradycji. Z jednej strony nie zmienia to faktu, że ta rodzima tradycja mogła być dziedzictwem kulturowym przejętym po tych starożytnych cywilizacjach, a z drugiej tekst nosi wyraźne ślady kompozycji z okresu perskiego. W artykule przyjęta jest teza Marka Awabdy’sa, że tekst mógł być skomponowany przez tzw. szkołę świętości, korygującą kapłański ekskluzywizm w bezpośrednim przystępie do Boga, ale nie wyklucza się, że część błogosławieństwa mogła być jednak skomponowana wcześniej i stosowana w życiu codziennym.
Num 6:22–27 is a (post)priestly composition. Scholars, however, treated the blessing itself (Num 6:24–26) as a text borrowed from another, older source. In fact, one can find a number of analogies to the texts from Mesopotamia, Ugarit and even from Egypt and Hittite literature. This is especially true of epistolary texts. Nevertheless, the idioms and phrases used in it may also come from the native tradition. On the one hand, it does not change the fact that this native tradition could have been a cultural heritage taken over from those older civilizations, but on the other hand, the text shows clear traces of compositions from the Persian period. Mark Awabdy’s thesis is adopted in the article, namely, that the text could have been composed by the so-called Holiness School, which corrects priestly exclusivism, in direct access to God, but it is also possible that a part of the blessing could have been composed earlier and used in everyday life.

Job is afflicted by evil and is revolted by it; yet, he ends up accepting this mystery. Job’s example expands the definition of “holiness” to include one of its key elements: the gift of a word of freedom that can give rise to prophetic vulnerability.

Against the backdrop of subsequent editions of the Millennium Bible, the reader can learn not only about Professor’s extraordinary erudition, but also about his scientific honesty, which testifies to the constant improvement of the research workshop and respect for the inspired word.

The article analyses the originality of the narrative manner of the contemporary writer Yaroslav Shipov, in whose texts the ideals and spiritual challenge of the heroes and storyteller are always accompanied by a dense network of humor and common nonsense. Conclusions are drawn regarding the reasons for such a strategy. The prose by Shipov, though aimed at finding God’s presence in the world, is stylistically and problematically associated with secular and social literature. It motivates the reader to do self-meditation and intellectual work based on the influence of suggestion.

Św. Ojciec Pio jest jedynym kapłanem katolickim, któremu Bóg udzielił przywileju stygmatyzacji widzialnej. Przez pół wieku (1918-1968) wierni z całego świata przybywali do San Giovanni Rotondo, aby mogli osobiście zobaczyć Rany Zbawiciela, gdy odprawiał on Ofiarę Mszy Świętej. W 2006 r. w udostępnionych badaczom archiwach watykańskich odkryto akta z tajnej wizytacji, którą w imieniu Świętego Oficjum w 1921 roku przeprowadził w klasztorze kapucyńskim bp R.C. Rossi. On też jako pierwszy poznał nieznaną do 2006 r. przyczynę stygmatyzacji Świętego.
Padre Pio is the only Catholic priest endowed by God with the privilege of visible stigmatisation. During half a century (1918–1968) faithful from all over the world were coming to San Giovanni Rotondo in order to see personally the Saviour’s wounds at holy mass celebrated by this saint. In 2006 researchers were given access to Vatican archive files of a secret visitation which was carried out in 1921 at the mandate of the Holy Office by a Capuchin friar R.C. Rossi. He was the one who discovered the cause of the Padre Pio’s stigmatisation that remained unknown until 2006.

St. Thomas Aquinas's mariology is art of the considerations on Christ and His salvific mission. It constitutes, as it were, a natural introduction into the explanation of the mystery how the Son of God entered the world. Aquinas sees the mystery of the Mother of God in the context of Jesus Christ's mission. Thus St. Thomas Aquinas's Mariology is, as it were, a part of Christology. The relationship between Mary and Jesus is a key to understand His role in the history of salvation. In the teaching on Mary and Her role in the history of salvation, Aquinas emphasises several important elements. They are the following: 1. The true nature of Mary's divine motherhood (Theotokos). Mary is the true Mother of God because She is the Mother of the Person of the Son of God; 2. The special dimension of Her vocation that She carries out by Her priviege to be the „Mediatrix of graces”, and that in turn determines Her special role in the history of salvation; 3. The Trinitary dimension of Mary's mission. Mary collaborates (conducts a dialogue) with the Holy Trinity as it is best shown in the scene of the Annunciation, Cana of Galilee, Pentecost; 4. the holiness of Mary is understood by Aquinas as Her special (subjective) freedom from sin; 5. Mary's mediation which – according to St. Thomas – is a mediation of mercy, for it expresses Her concern and care for the good of others. This does not collide with the redemptive mediation of Jesus Christ, but accompanies it.

Man is someone real and as such he is immersed in a world that is a task set to him as a person. Therefore, the whole world, as entirely coming from God, and entirely assigned to Him, is constantly bursting with its natural truth and good and, consequently, also beauty. This is an important perspective, both in the order of nature and in the order of grace, also because the synthesis and fulfilment of all values (perfections), which is personal fullness – holiness, is the ultimate reference of the human person to the Person of God. However, this perspective becomes comprehensible only in the field of the realism of the human person’s truth, goodness and beauty, related to their perfect Source, and therefore to the Truth, Goodness and Beauty of the Person of God Himself.In this sense, it can be said that God is the End of all perfections. Holiness itself is thus a specific peak of the elevation of human potentialities to a higher level of being. „Holiness, through the elevation of truth, goodness and beauty to the supernatural level, can fulfil the potential of human nature – reason and will, to their limits; and this fulfilment, in Christian thought, can only take place in visio beatifica, to which this life here and now is supposed to prepare us”. Let us add that the understanding and implementation of evangelical counsels: chastity, poverty and obedience, serve this growth in a particular way. The counsels are the evangelical factor stimulating and strengthening the work of the intellect and free will.

Among the many paths in life on which God places man there is undoubtedly the one that leads to the heights of holiness. It is not always easy, but certainly beautiful. Delighted by this beauty of God’s plans, Brother Jerzy Lakomiak united his paths with the Master’s dogs. Reading and responding to God’s call, he responded with his life by taking up the path of the evangelical counsels: chastity poverty and obedience following the example of St. Francis of Assisi. His love for God, the Blessed Mother, holy poverty, quiet and humble service, and a life of prayer, first in his native country and then for half a century on Argentine soil, made it possible that today among his confreres and those who knew Brother George, he is spoken of as one who exemplarily fulfilled the mission the Risen Lord entrusted to him.

The concept of holiness is one of the key theological issues. Semantically the term “holiness” focuses on God, the only absolutely Holy, who lives and works in the Church, and is also the source of the holiness of the Church. Visible reflection of the holiness of the Church on earth are the countless saints – people who are called by God to be holy, and with the proper spiritual life, had grown up in perfection and become able to accept the special sanctification by the Holy Spirit. But God is calling to be holy not only those who have tasted holiness – which formally announced to the world bythe church in an act of canonization – but all Christians. The term “holy” is used by Bible not only in reference to God, but also to the people, places and things, sanctified bycontact with God, exalted by him, dedicated to the service of God. The article deals on the holiness of the human in the Old and New Testaments only. The New Testament repeats call to be holy directed by God to man in the Old Testament (cf. 1 Peter 1:15). But at the same time God calls the human to be perfect (Mathew 5:48). The source of human holiness in the New Testament is Jesus Christ, who received it from God the Father. The New Testament sacrifice of Jesus Christ replaced the Old Testament sacrifice rendered by archpriest. This sacrifice is the source of human sanctification and forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 10:14). Christ sacrifice has opened the way for every man to God, and this path is not limited neither by time nor by space. The New Testament reveals the concept of human holiness much wider and deeper than the Old Testament did. On the pages of Gospels and Epistles of the Apostles there are shown the human patterns that make up the definition of holiness.Then they are repeated and explained in the Church by Holy Fathers mainly. It is thanks to the action of the Holy Trinityevery Christian can be saint. It is thanks to the adoption by the Son of God the human nature, members of the Church are given the possibility to recover the original nature of the man, soiled by sin, to transform it by the grace of God. Following Jesus Christ, participating in His Divinity and by His grace Christians became saints.

Biblia ukazuje teofanię Boga, od którego pochodzi wszelka świętość. O niej mówią Arka Przymierza, miejsca święte, szaty, przedmioty kultu, czas i szabat. Świętość ma wymiar moralny, bo wzywa do odpowiedzi na miłość Boga, do życia zgodnie z Jego przykazaniami. Ewangelia o Chrystusie stanowi fundament świętości i działanie Kościoła przez sakramenty uświęcające każdego chrześcijanina, jeśli przyjmuje je z miłością. Bł. Jan Paweł II w liście Novo millenio ineunte podkreśla: prowadzenie do świętości pozostaje szczególnie pilnym zadaniem duszpasterskim. Podporządkowanie programu duszpasterskiego „świętości” oznacza, że człowiek mimo grzechu nie godzi się na własną małość, bo świętość Chrystusa wyzwala i doprowadza do głębokiej religijności.
The Bible shows the theophany of God who is the source of all sacredness. Places, robes, cult objects, time and sabbath may reveal His holiness which has a moral dimension as it requires the response to God’s love and obedience to His commandments. The Gospel is at the core of holiness. Man can sanctify themselves thanks to sacraments. In his letter Novo millenio ineunte blessed John Paul II stresses the necessity of holiness in the life of the Church and pastoral activity. The man who aims to sanctify themselves cannot consent to sin and has to deepen their religious life. Their striving for sacredness in everyday life brings authentic freedom and allows them to stay in God’s presence.
