Opis:
Amorphization of GaAs implanted with Cd in the dose range of 2 x 10$\text{}^{13}$-1.2 x 10$\text{}^{14}$ ions/cm2 and the energy range of 20 to 180 keV at room temperature has been investigated. The degree and the depth distributions of postimplanted damage were measured by using RBS technique. The critical dose for each Cd-ion energy was determined. The amorphization models have been discussed. The results obtained are in agreement with theoretical predictions supporting heterogeneous amorphization of Cd-implanted GaAs at room temperature.

Opis:
Amorphization of P and As implanted GaAs at liquid nitrogen temperature has been investigated. The post-implantation damage was measured by means of Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) He$\text{}^{+}$ channeling technique. The critical dose and critical energy densities for amorphization were determined. From the results obtained it is concluded that for both ions the amorphization process can be satisfactorily described by the heterogeneous model.

Opis:
Theoretical analysis of the thermally stimulated depolarization current in heterogeneous structure is performed. Two systems are considered: (i) a single dielectric sphere in dielectric matrix and (ii) a continuous dielectric medium containing sparsely distributed dielectric spheres (Wagner-Voigt model of heterogeneous dielectric. The existence of the interfacial charge is taken into account. The equations are found which describe the dependence of the thermally stimulated depolarization current density on the polarization conditions and on the electrical properties of the both materials.

A simplified theory of thermally stimulated depolarization current of a parallel-plate condenser filled with heterogeneous solid consisting of two dielectrics is presented. It is assumed that the particles (with different shapes and dimensions) of one dielectric are sparsely distributed in another dielectric. A second basic assumption is that the average field in the solid is equal to the external electric field.

Measurements of X-ray scattering from very highly doped GaAs:Te single crystals as a function of doping level and thermal treatment (annealing temperature) are reported. Reversible diffuse X-ray scattering occurs after sample annealing below a certain temperature. Presented results indicate an inhomogeneous arising of impurity-impurity correlations in GaAs:Te solid solution. Observed features of diffuse X-ray scattering in reciprocal space can be well understood within Krivoglaz theory of scattering due to spatial fluctuations of solute atoms pair correlation function and related lattice deformations. Good coincidence of diffuse X-ray scattering with the free electron concentration changes caused by an annealing is reported. Free electron concentration drop accompanying impurity correlation strongly suggests a certain form of impurity bonding.

Opis:
Optical spectroscopy is a suitable technique to study the functional and structural properties of large biomolecules in solution without damaging the samples. In particular, measurements of time-resolved fluorescence may give important information on the tertiary structure of proteins. Furthermore, the study of fluorescence depolarization as a function of time is a very common method to follow the dynamics of the local domains and subunits which form the quaternary structure of oligomeric enzyme. The analysis of fluorescence decays in terms of continuous distribution of lifetimes seems to be an appropriate approach to describe the dynamics of proteins which ranges over an enormous time scale (from 10 ps to 10 ns). The results obtained for several proteins are reported and discussed. The data provide further confirmation of the correlation which exist between heterogeneous fluorescence decays and a hierarchy of many conformational substates in proteins.

This paper deals with the propagation of waves around a circular obstacle. The medium is heterogeneous: the velocity is smaller in the inner region and greater in the outer region. The interface separating the two regions is also circular, and the obstacle is located eccentrically inside it. The different front portraits are classified.

The rapid progress of microprocessor and communication technologies has made the distributed computing system economically attractive for many computer applications. One of the first problems encountered in the operation of a distributed system is the problem of allocating the tasks among the processing nodes. The task allocation problem is known to be computationally intractable for large task sets. In this paper, we consider the task allocation problem with the goal of maximizing reliability of heterogeneous distributed systems. After presenting a quantitative task allocation model, we present a least-cost branch-and-bound algorithm to find optimal task allocations. We also present two heuristic algorithms to obtain suboptimal allocations for realistic size large problems in a reasonable amount of computational time. Simulation was used to study the performance of the proposed algorithms for a large number of problems. Also, performance of the proposed algorithms has been compared with a well-known heuristics available in the literature.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of nonlocality on the physical and material field equations of heterogeneous media. Taking into account that plastic deformations in metals or damage in brittle and ductile materials are governed by physical mechanisms observed on levels with different lengthscales, we introduce a 6-dimensional kinematical concept with two locally defined vectors to model the material behaviour on a macro- and meso- or microlevel. Using a variational procedure the physical and material balance laws, boundary and transversality conditions are derived for macrp- and microdeformations of heterogeneous media. The disspation inquality including relaxation terms for transport processes is presented. The constitutive equations are formulated with macro- and microstrain measures, their gradients and time rates, and the anisotropy tensor as arguments, where the latter can be considered as a coupling measure between the deformed macrostates with compatible microstates. The model presented in this paper delivers a framework, which enables one to derive various nonlocal and gradient theories by introducing simplifying assumptions. As the special case a solid-void model is considered.
Celem pracy jest zbadanie wpływu nielokalności na fizyczne i materialne równania pola ośrodków heterogenicznych. Biorąc pod uwagę, że plastyczna deformacja w metalach lub zniszczenie w kruchych i ciągliwych materiałach rządzone są przez fizyczne mechanizmy na różnych poziomach skali, wprowadzono 6-wymiarową strukturę z dwoma lokalnie zdefiniowanymi wektorami do modelowania materialnego zachowania ośrodka na poziomie makro- i mezo- lub mikroskali. Wykorzystując wariacyjną procedurę otrzymano fizyczne i materialne prawa bilansu, warunki brzegowe i transwersalność dla makro- i mikrodeformacji ośrodków heterogenicznych. Przedstawiona nierówność dyssypacyjna zawiera człony relaksacyjne procesów transportu. Sformułowane równania konstytutywne wyrażono przy pomocy miar makro- i mikroodkształcenia, ich gradientów i przyrostów oraz tensora anizotropii, gdzie ostatni argument może być traktowany jako miara sprzężenia pomiędzy odkształconymi makrostanami i kompatybilnymi mikrostanami. Przedstawiony w pracy model dostarcza podstaw, które poprzez wprowadzenie uproszczających założeń umożliwiają otrzymanie różnych postaci nielokalnych i gradientowych teorii. Jako przypadek szczególny rozpatrzono model typu ciało stałe-pustka.

In this paper we address an extension of a very efficient genetic algorithm (GA) known as Hy3, a physical parallelization of the gradual distributed real-coded GA (GD-RCGA). This search model relies on a set of eight subpopulations residing in a cube topology having two faces for promoting exploration and exploitation. The resulting technique has been shown to yield very accurate results in continuous optimization by using crossover operators tuned to explore and exploit the solutions inside each subpopulation. We introduce here a further extension of Hy3, called Hy4, that uses 16 islands arranged in a hypercube of four dimensions. Thus, two new faces with different exploration/exploitation search capabilities are added to the search performed by Hy3. We analyze the importance of running a synchronous versus an asynchronous version of the models considered. The results indicate that the proposed Hy4 model overcomes the Hy3 performance because of its improved balance between exploration and exploitation that enhances the search. Finally, we also show that the async Hy4 model scales better than the sync one.
