Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyze three aspects of the relationship between general pedagogy and Health education. Two different doctoral dissertations on Health education, claimed to be written from different scientific positions (hermeneutic and positivistic), were analyzed from science--philosophical, knowledge-theoretical and methodological points of view. The analysis showed that none of the dissertations contained any deeper discussion on science-philosophical or knowledge-theoretical issues and that both of the dissertations were written mainly in the hermeneutic tradition. The reason for this is probably that Health education, especially promotive Health education, handles divergent questions that seldom, or never, can be handled with positivistic methods. One consequence of this is that the results of research on promotive Health education rarely, or never, are normative and can tell how to teach about health in a specific educational situation. Instead the results can be used as a background for didactic reflection whey planning and realizing Health education initiatives. Another consequence is that the present trend with demand for evidence based Health education, can be questioned! Because promotive Health education is so heavily loaded with divergent questions, and because pedagogical research, according to Habermas, has an emancipatory or critical “knowledge interest”. Research can explain what is going on in one situation but not predict what will happen in a similar, but other situation! Therefore this paper argues that the idea of evidence based, promotive health education is hard, or impossible, to realize.

Objectives The aging of the workforce is an issue that calls for concrete measures to promote the health of older workers. This study reports on the results of the European “ProHealth65+” research project interventions conducted in Poland in relation to workplace health promotion for older workers (WHPOW) and the institutions involved in these programs. Material and Methods A three-stage search of peer-reviewed and grey literature on the WHPOW in Poland. Results A total of 59 WHPOW programs were retrieved in Poland in the observation period (2000–2015). Most of these aimed at improving the Qualification and Training or at the Work Climate and attitudes toward older workers. The promotion, organization, and funding of these activities were carried out mainly by supra-national and governmental bodies, enterprises and employers, and educational and trainee institutions. Conclusions Although there is great commitment to the medical surveillance of workers on the part of the Polish occupational health service, our search detected a relatively low number of the WHPOW initiatives. Greater efforts should be made to introduce strategies for addressing aging of the workforce. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2018;31(6):753–761

Opis:
Objectives In the contemporary Western culture, working population health issues, stressed in various publications, have been perceived as a crucial part of public health. To deal with occupational health issues properly, occupational health services (OHS), aiming at the protection of the workers’ health, are organized in many countries. The survey was to find the differences in occupational health systems that the European Economic Area countries use in order to execute prophylactic activities focused on diseases of affluence and how the OHS are used for health promotion actions. Material and Methods The survey was conducted with the use of an on-line expert questionnaire. No deep statistical analysis was performed as for the designed aims of the study simple statistics were sufficient. Results All the reviewed countries have organized OHS. The funding mechanisms are based mainly on the financial involvement of employers. In the majority of countries, the main goal of the OHS is certification of the ability to work. Workplace surveillance aiming at the occupational risk assessment and health promotion activities that focus on work-related and/or occupational diseases are the most popular services provided within national systems. Conclusions Occupational health professionals are well placed to perform actions directed at health promotion and prophylactics of a wide range of diseases – not only occupational/work-related, but also non-communicable, particularly life-style-related diseases of affluence. The engagement of the occupational medical services (OMS) in prevention of the non-work-related health issues would be valuable. However, it would be inevitable for employers to finance a wider range of services to a greater extent. Int J Occup Med Environ Health. 2019;32(3):353–61

The purpose of the article. The presented research aims to analyze the impact of health education on students' attitudes towards taking care of their health, the health of other people and the ability to create a healthy environment. The paper assumes that health education is provided in schools by the applicable law. The work presents an up-to-date perspective on the complex problem of how young people perceive health. Methodology. To verify the significance of the differences in the respondents' assessments, statistical methods (non-parametric tests) were used: the U-Mann-Whitney test and the Spearman rank correlation coefficient. The calculations were made using Statistica. The research sample included young people from upper secondary and general education schools. The author's questionnaire was used. The study was anonymous. Respondents completed the questionnaire voluntarily. The research was conducted between March and September 2023. Results of the research. The conducted empirical analyses and the results of the surveys allowed us to achieve the goal assumed in the introduction and confirmed that health education in secondary schools influences the shaping of students' attitudes towards taking care of their health and the health of the community in which they live. By implementing health education at school – according to the core curriculum – students' awareness and motivation to undertake activities to improve and maintain good health is increased. Additionally, practical skills are developed to help them use the acquired knowledge in everyday life, and pro-health attitudes are formed. Health promotion is, therefore, the key to improving the health of school children, preparing them for a healthy lifestyle and making informed choices about their health and the community in which they live.

Opis:
According to the authors, physioprophylaxis is a preventive measure against developmental and lifestyle diseases, the aging process and disabilities through: ergonomic performance of daily and professional activities; systematic physical exercise; behaviors that strengthen pro-health factors; and which is oriented towards risk prevention. In the health care system, it is a new and effective prophylactic alternative for the prevention of ever-increasing health risks. As a health need and medical service, physioprophylaxis has officially become present in the law, standards of education and in the professional practice of most physiotherapists. On the other hand, the promotion of the health and well-being of people and the general public that emphasizes the importance of physical activity and exercise is one of a physiotherapist’s professional objectives. The aim of this work is to present an exemplary description of physioprophylaxis integrated with health promotion. The authors resolved to show the types, means and methods of its impact on health education, risk prevention and health policy.
Fizjoprofilaktyka według autorów jest to działanie zapobiegające chorobom rozwojowym i cywilizacyjnym, procesowi starzenia się i niepełnosprawności przez: ergonomiczne wykonywanie czynności życiowych i zawodowych, systematyczną aktywność fizyczną i zachowania wzmacniające czynniki prozdrowotne, ukierunkowane na zapobieganie zagrożeniom. W systemie ochrony zdrowia jest ona nową, skuteczną alternatywą profilaktyczną służącą zapobieganiu nieustannie narastającym zagrożeniom. Jako potrzeba zdrowotna i świadczenie medyczne, fizjoprofilaktyka oficjalnie stała się obecna w aktach prawa, standardach edukacji i praktyce zawodowej większości fizjoterapeutów. Natomiast promowanie zdrowia i dobrostanu osób oraz ogółu społeczeństwa, podkreślające znaczenie aktywności fizycznej i ćwiczeń jest jednym z celów zawodowych fizjoterapeutów. Celem pracy jest zaprezentowanie przykładowego opisu fizjoprofilaktyki zintegrowanej z promocją zdrowia. Postanowiono ukazać rodzaje, środki i metody jej oddziaływania w edukacji zdrowotnej, profilaktyce zagrożeń i polityce zdrowotnej.

Health education and promotion as well as illness prevention contributes to activity of old people. In Poland, the health of old people is mainly under care of curative medicine and health promotion activities are not comprehensive and continued on large scale. The Interdisciplinary School of Health Promotion for Seniors is an innovative educational initiative aimed at raising the awareness of health among the School attendees and changing their health behaviors. Participants raise the knowledge and skills on the importance and methods of health promotion in old age, learn how to improve the level of social integrity with their care givers, have a chance to increase health and social activity, and to change their health behaviors. The knowledge on health in School refers to results of recent studies on health and ageing, current situation in Poland, and assumptions of anti-ageing policy in Poland and European Union. It will be shared in multidimensional way, not only in medical terms, tought at workshops and provided through participating education. Result of the program might be a model educational program in health promotion for old people that would be used in large scale in future programs of education and social activity for seniors.

Opis:
Hungarian Americans share a unique culture of food traditions associated with their value system and way of life. Researchers, health care providers, and nutrition professionals counseling and treating a Hungarian-American population should develop a baseline of cultural understanding to achieve successful and long-lasting behavior change outcomes. The leading causes of death among Hungarians include ischemic heart disease (21.3%), stroke (13.4%), and cirrhosis (5.8%); all are directly or indirectly attributed to a traditional Hungarian diet coupled with a sedentary lifestyle. Health behaviors among Hungarian Americans can be partially explained by the Health Belief Model’s value-expectancy construct. Understanding cultural expectations and their associated values serve as a foundation for health promotion programming to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease and comorbidities. This review explored numerous facets of Hungarian-American dietary habits in psychosocial, economic, historical, and cultural contexts. Health education and health promotion considerations were also examined.

This handbook on health promotion addressed to older people, which is written for readers in European countries, should function as a training programme guideline for health promoters. The authors are aware that it is an excessively ambitious task in light of the relatively poor scientific state of affairs in the field of health promotion. This ambition may be justified to some extent by the experience of the writing team, who acquired a considerable capital of knowledge as a result of ‘Pro health 65+’ - the European project on health promotion addressed to elderly people and prevention of chronic diseases, which was carried out as a part of the second Health Programme of the European Union.

Sexuality is an integral part of personality of each human being. No earnestly conducted sex education is a common cause of engaging in risky sexual behaviours. The aim of the study is to evaluate the role of sex education in health promotion and to present the results of the studies of the effects of school sex education on sexual behaviour of young people. The period of adolescence is characterized by a more frequent risk-taking behaviour. Among adolescents it is observed that the average age of sexual initiation has decreased, the frequency of making sexual contact and a number of sexual partners has increased, as well as the insufficient dissemination of the use of condoms and other methods of contraception every time sexual intercourse takes place. The task of health promotion is to influence determinants of health, among others, through sex education. Research confirms the positive impact of complex sex education, carried out in accordance with the recommendations of international organizations, on a lower frequency of engaging in risky sexual behaviour. It seems appropriate to take action to disseminate appropriate for the level of psychosexual development sex education in schools.

Purpose: This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of health education on adolescents' healthy lifestyle and health perceptions given an adolescent group. Materials and methods: The study's universe constitutes a total of 234 students attending the 9th grade of a high school. The study was constructed according to the single-group pre-test, quasi-experimental research model, in the 9th class in a high school. Data collection form, Adolescent lifestyle scale(ALS) and health perception scale were applied to the adolescents as a pre-test during the first phase of the study. The adolescents who were below the median score of ALS were accepted as the risk group and taken to the experimental group. Adolescents in the experimental group received a 6-week "Health Promotion Program" and a final test was given to the adolescents at the end of the training sessions. Descriptive statistics, Paired-t-test, independent-, and correlation were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: ALS total score was 94.52±9.53 before adolescents' health promotion education and 104.05±15.4 after education. The relationship between them was statistically significant(p<0.05). It was determined that the health perception of adolescents included in the study decreased after post-training total scores compared to the pre-training scores and that this relationship was statistically significant(p<0.05). Conclusion: Public health nurses may be recommended to develop healthy lifestyle behaviours by raising healthy adolescents by providing more adolescent education through school health services.

W artykule zaprezentowano badania dotyczące stosowania programów redukujących stres zawodowy oraz skutki wypalenia zawodowego w zakładach karnych oraz ośrodkach edukacyjnych i służbie zdrowia. Przebadano 40 instytucji.
The article presents research on the application of programs reducing occupational stress as well as the effects of professional burnout in penitentiaries, educational centers, and healthcare centers. The study looked at forty institutions. The results show a relatively high level of implementation of psycho–social health prophylactic measures as compared with its application in private organizations. A total of 35% of public institutions in the research sample implemented such programs covering both organizational and individual levels, while only 10% applied only programs of the second type. Analysis of the efficacy of implementation demonstrates a significant share of examined institutions concerned with intervention efficacy. The level of stress was analyzed in 50% of the research sample and the sources of pathology in 44%. The cost of no prophylactic measures and a comparison between this and the cost of the intervention was estimated in 17% of the research sample. The comparative analysis of public institutions and private firms with respect to stress reduction shows more care devoted to these issues in public institutions. Public institutions implement stress–reduction programs, implement them more comprehensively, and examine their efficacy more often than private companies. Conclusions stemming from the research indicate a relatively conscious and proper approach to questions of occupational stress reduction occupational health prophylactic measures. Nevertheless, there continue to be shortcomings in the methodology of the intervention as well as in the assessment of the efficacy of the results.

The general purpose of this article is to report on the findings of a nationwide survey that examined the extent of HP implementation at schools in Poland. The research results presented in this paper are part of a broader research project which was conducted at the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) in cooperation with the University of Limerick (Ireland). The research was conducted by means of the questionnaire: “National Questionnaire on SPHE and Health Promoting Schools”, developed by the staff of the University of Limerick and adapted to Polish conditions. The questionnaires were sent to schools in Poland holding the National Health Promoting School (HPS) Certificate, one hundred and three of which were completed and returned and then analysed with respect to quantity and quality. Considering the theoretical assumptions of the idea analysed, the information obtained from the respondents describing health promotion at their schools was grouped into four categories: school environment; core curriculum and learning; partnership; policy and planning. It was determined that the work of these schools emphasises mostly two elements in building a health promoting school: the school environment along with core curriculum and learning, while the two other elements (partnership; policy and planning) are more poorly implemented.

Opis:
Background: Research centers, operating in a very dynamic, changing and complex environment in the first decade of the 21st century, face a number of major challenges. Universities set up virtual research teams (VRTs), whose cooperation proves extremely effective, despite geographical distances, borders, differences resulting from time zones, cultural and organizational dissimilarities. They work out common models which are then put into practical action in those academic institutions. For five years now VRTs formed by employees of the colleges of higher education based in Suwalki and Grodno have been working successfully. Aim of the study: Assessment of joint activities developed by VRTs, based on an analysis of medical and social aspects of pro-health attitudes declared by students of Prof. Edward F. Szczepanik State Vocational College in Suwalki (SVC) and Yanka Kupala State University in Grodno (YKU). Material and methods: The studies in Grodno and Suwalki were carried out by a VRT coordinated by SVC in Suwalki, within the framework of the “Pro-health program for the years 2013–2016”. We used the online questionnaire system LimeSurvey (social, organizational and statistical tool for implementation of health promotion and health education). Results: Upon the analysis of 4,878 original electronic surveys, which were conducted in 2013–2015, Suwalki-Grodno-based VRTs obtained extensive knowledge of pro-health attitudes of students of both academic centers. As a result, there were created databases of, among others: a) studies on the impact of health-targeting behaviors, b) studies on the prevalence of psychoactive substances (alcohol, tobacco, drugs) among students, c) studies on knowledge about diseases related to addictions, and d) studies on the model of physical activity among students. Conclusions: 1. Unconventional forms of work, including also the sphere of science, materialize along with socio-technological developments and the appearance of new, innovative communication media. 2. Activities of VRTs to a significant extent contribute to an international research cooperation. 3. Verification of the health policy implemented by both academic centers poses a challenge to actions undertaken by Grodno and Suwalki VRTs.
Wstęp: Ośrodki naukowe pierwszej dekady XXI wieku, działające w niezwykle dynamicznym, zmiennym i złożonym środowisku, stają obecnie przed szeregiem ważnych wyzwań. Wnioski: 1.

Materiał i metody W 21 szkołach zbadano 644 nauczycieli i 226 pracowników niepedagogicznych. Opracowano 2-częściowy model ewaluacji wyników. Zastosowano metodę sondażu i autorskie kwestionariusze ankiet. Background This article presents selected outcomes of a 3-year project “Health promotion of school staff in health-promoting schools,” as well as the achievements and difficulties in its implementation. Material and Methods The research was conducted on 644 teachers and 226 members of non-teaching staff in 21 schools. The method involved opinion poll and authored questionnaires. A 2-part model of outcome evaluation was developed. Results Most participants appreciated the changes that took place within the 3 years of the project implementation. These included the improved level of their knowledge about health, health-conducive behaviors (62–93%) and the physical and social environment of the school (50–92%). Changes were more frequently acknowledged by teachers. About 80% of the participants had a positive attitude to the project, but only 20% assessed their involvement as considerable. About 90% believed that health promotion activities should be continued. According to the project leaders, insufficient support and financial resources, and difficulties in motivating school employees, particularly the nonteaching staff, to undertake health-promotion activities were the major handicaps in the project implementation. Conclusions The project outcomes can be assessed as satisfying. They revealed that it is posssible to initiate health promotion among school staff. This can be effective on condition that participants are motivated, actively engaged in the project and supported by the head teacher and the local community. Necessarily, school leaders should be prepared to promote health among adults and to gain support from school policy decision makers, school administration, trade unions and universities involved in teacher training. Aim The aim of this paper is the assessment of eating habits of high school students from grades 2 and 3, including eating habits, self-evaluation of diet and the most common nutrition mistakes committed by the members of the studied group. Materials and methodology The study involved 333 high school students between the age of 17 and 19. The group consisted of 150 girls and 183 boys. Data was collected using an original survey which consisted of questions dealing with diet and respondent’s particulars. The study was anonymous. The results have been subjected to statistical analysis using Pearson’s chi-squared test. The statistical differences recognized as significant were those with probability of p<0.05 Results The majority reaching nearly 40% of respondents declared that they eat 4 meals a day. Over 60% eat breakfast every day. The number of students who declared that they do not eat breakfast at all amounted to 48. Over 55% do not pay attention to their eating habits, whereas 45 students consider them unhealthy. About 60% of respondents declare that they do not drink energy drinks. Within the group of students who consume such drinks the most often declared frequency was 1-2 times a week. The answers, however, vary between the female and the male group (chi-square=82.72121, p≤0,05); 75% of males do not consume energy drinks, among females the percentage amounts to mere 43%. Conclusions The students taking part in the study commit nutrition mistakes which might be a sign of unsufficient level of health education within that field. The nutritional education of the youth should start in primary school and be adapted to the needs and possibilities of the target group. In the face of poor diet, it seems justified to analyze the sources of information on nutrition used by the youth in terms of their credibility.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the paper is to analyse the impact ageism may have on providing healthcare to elderly people. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The article investigates the consequences of ageism in medical settings, where the elderly are particularly vulnerable to discrimination, distinguishing ageism from appropriate practice variation as well as giving suggestions to improve the situation. The paper analyses research published worldwide on selected issues connected with ageism with special attention to medical professionals’ attitudes and ageist behaviours of the elderly’s environment in a situation of their disability or illness. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: Firstly, the relation of ageism to other forms of stereotyping is outlined. Then, the threats of positive ageism are elaborated. The next section is devoted to self-stereotyping of the elderly and its impact on their functioning. Then, the paper discusses medical professionals’ attitudes and ways to measure them, as well as educational interventions that may alter them. Finally, the article refers effective ways of adjusting health promotion messages to the needs of older adults. RESEARCH RESULTS: Ageism bases on mechanisms similar to sexism and racism, but there are some remarkable differences. Positive ageism may be compassionate, however, might be harmful when intruding into an elderly person’s decisions. Self-stereotyping may be described with a model of a vicious cycle. Contact with the elderly is found to be useful in changing medical staff’s attitudes. Family-centred messages are most effective when it comes to health promotion among older adults. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Studies on ageism prove that negative convictions about the elderly are harmful and affect their functioning. Inclusion of the elderly should be applied in social contexts as well as in science, as the elderly are often missed out in research samples.

The aim of this article is to present the activities of the State Sanitary Inspection in the scope of health promotion. The organization, tasks and the field of the activities of the State Sanitary Inspection bodies are set out in the Act on State Sanitary Inspection of 14th March 1985. The State Sanitary Inspection is on assignment to carries out public health policy. The organizational units of this institution pursue the public health tasks taking preventive and current sanitary supervision, conducting preventive and anti-epidemiological activity with respect to infections diseases as well as conducting the educational and healthy activity. The issues concerning the health promotion play a crucial role in the educational and healthy activity of this Inspection. The health promotion might be also undertaken by the State Sanitary Inspection in the field of e.g. current or preventive sanitary supervision. However, in this sphere the health promotion has only an additional and supporting character. Within the educational and healthy activity, the State Sanitary Inspection promotes health by using non-imperious legal forms of public administration activity80. The division of non-imperious legal forms into: bilateral and unilateral one’s which was presented in a doctrine by T. Kuta has application in the activity of the State Sanitary Inspection relating to issues of the health promotion. The bilateral non-imperious forms are connected with collaboration among the State Sanitary Inspection and public and non-public entities. This collaboration is usually carried out as a nationwide or local long-term programmes or actions. However, the unilateral non-imperious forms of the State Sanitary Inspection are completed in the form of appeals and manifestos aimed at the single-reaction (e.g. social or media campaigns).

The aim of this study was to analyse health behavior, taking into account the following aspects: proper nutritional habits (PNH), preventive behaviors (PB), positive thinking (PT) and health practices (HP) in the light of general index of intensity of health behaviors (GIIHB) of pregnant women participating in antenatal classes in Szczecin. Juczyński’s (2001) Health Behavior (HBI) Inventory constitutes the methodological basis for this investigation. Among examined respondents participating in prenatal school activities a high health behaviors indicator was stated in nearly half of them (49.0%). Unfortunately, among the rest of examined pregnant women health behaviors were on the average (37.4%) or low level (13.6%). None of the above categories of health behaviours obtained remarkably higher point values. Therefore, it can be stated that there is a necessity to promote preventive activities to spread information concerning healthy eating habits and to recommend advantages resulting from health behaviors.

This review includes information about the number of private health insurance and medical subscriptions in Poland, as well as the level of increases in premium rates, and the scale of health promotion and prevention conducted by Polish employers. The aim of this article is to present the current situation on the supplementary private medical market, which is involved in employees’ healthcare, and the challenges that both employers and medical providers with health insurers are now facing, and also to present the reasons why prevention and health promotion are important factors of healthcare under private health insurance. For the purpose of this review, scientific publications devoted to health promotion at the workplace were used, along with statistical data presented in the studies released by the Polish Insurance Association, the Polish Social Security Institution, the World Health Organization and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The literature search was carried out using the electronic databases of PubMed. Search terms included medical subject headings and free text words. No year of publication restriction was imposed. The conducted analysis shows that the demand for private medical care is rising. Employers are willing to invest in private medical care for their employees, although the scale is much lower among small and medium-sized entrepreneurs due to fiscal burdens. Given the rising demand and an insufficient number of specialists, access to medical services is deteriorating, and the premium rates and costs are rising. More employers are investing in health promotion at the workplace in order to decrease absenteeism and presenteeism, lower the utilization of medical packages, and improve their attractiveness on the market. Although the interest in private medical care is rising, employers should focus on health promotion and prevention at the workplace, and adapt their actions to the employees’ current needs and health issues. Differentiation of social positions leads to the differentiation of health status in the social structure. This relationship results in the phenomenon of social inequalities in health. Health promotion has been created to improve health status and reduce the social inequalities in populations through building resources for health and healthy lifestyles and ensuring their egalitarian distribution. Taking into account the tasks of health promotion we can premise that the implementation of it creates opportunities for the reduction in social inequalities in health, but on condition that health promotion is not being medicalized. In this article we attempt to substantiate the hypothesis speaking that there is the relationship between the medicalization of health promotion and the sustaining of social inequalities in health over time.

Introduction. Physical activity is one of the basic needs of people throughout their lives. Physical activity prevents many diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, which have the highest mortality rate, both among urban and rural populations in Poland. The average life expectancy in Poland and the European Union is increasing. The proportion of children and adolescents under the age of 20 is decreasing slowly but steadily, while the proportion of older people (aged 65+) in the total population is gradually increasing. According to the forecast of the Central Statistical Office, the percentage of older people increased rapidly after 2010, and will reach 22.3% in 2030. The number of the elderly will increase from 5,134,000 in 2007 to 8,195,000 in 2030. The health situation of Poles is less favourable compared to other European Union states. The most common health risks are: nicotine, drug addiction, alcoholism and obesity. One of the causes of obesity is an unhealthy lifestyle. Lifestyle is a basic determinant of human health. Objective. The aim of this study is to present research results based on a literature review on the importance of physical activity for human health as an element of organizing and managing the lifestyle of urban and rural populations. Conclusions. Comprehensive measures should be taken to increase public health awareness and promote health education, especially among school-age children and youths, and to provide appropriate sports infrastructure in particularly neglected rural areas.

The quality of life is a multidimensional notion. When studying it, one should take the physical, the psychological, the social, and the professional aspects into consid eration. Among them, the notion of the influence of obesity, understood as a modern -age disease, relates the quality of life to the notion of health, in the aspect of physical activity. The aim of the study carried out, was to determine the relationship be tween obesity in 18 -25 year - olds, and their physical activity, as well as the quality of their lives. The study was carried out by means a WHOQOL - BREF, and IPAQ survey questionnaires carried out on a group of 100 participants. The control group included pe ople whose BMI was within the norm, whereas the study group comprised people whose BMI was over 25. The results of the study have shown obesity to have a statistically significant negative impact on the quality of life in the physical, and mental domains, and as far as the general perception of health was concerned. In the study group, the mean weekly energy expenditure, was lower than in the control group. The physical activity of the obese, includes, mainly, activities based on light effort, and to a less er extent, those based on moderate effort. A comparative analysis has shown the level of physical activity to be significantly lower in obese women, in each type of physical effort, except light effort. This difference does not exist between the study, and control groups of men.

Health promotion in schools includes health education and actions aimed at creating an environment conducive to the physical and psychosocial health of students. This process is conditioned by educational and organizational factors and factors which are related to the competence of teacher. In fact today the particular context of actions taken by the school is created by a socio-cultural factors. The author analyzes the assumptions of health education program in school, academic curricula of teachers and selected aspects of the school environment and she sees in them the barriers to the effectiveness of health promotion in school.

Effective health-oriented education in the area of sports and recreation events organization - is not a goal which is easy to achieve. The idea is certainly worthy of attention, since the benefits can be passed on to the organizer, sponsor and the entire society. The purpose of this paper is to present sports and recreation events as a means of promoting physical culture and health-oriented education. Motions, proposals, and preconditions (as described here) of effective educational intervention in the organization of events are based on 15-years-long secret (hidden) participatory observation of 141 different (in terms of their organizational specifics) street runs - both in Poland and in the neighbouring countries - Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. Sports and recreation events can become an effective instrument of education for a healthy lifestyle only if they are widely available (easily accessible), if they draw media attention, are popular, cyclical (recurring), have a specific program and atmosphere. The organizers of events in the area of physical recreation should not encourage competition but rather educate for regular participation in health-oriented training, while active participation in sports and recreation event might fit in the pre-planned health capacity control. For sports and recreation events to become a carrier of socially desirable values such as health or healthy lifestyle, promoters should intentionally put emphasis on these values and place them above commercial or marketing strategies of sponsors.

The global spread of cancer makes every preventive action aiming at stopping the increase in number of cases and deaths related to cancer extremely important. Preventive actions may be especially effective in diseases etiologically related to lifestyles, including above all eating habits and level of physical activity. It is worth implementing them in compliance with the participatory approach, which constitutes a key component of health promotion and health education. The aim of this article is to present the reasons for and the need to implement prevention based on the idea of participation. This is justified by the results of the research conducted as part of a grant sponsored by Polska Liga Walki z Rakiem [Polish Cancer League] (“Onkogranty II” contest), entitled Promotion of healthy eating habits and physical activity in primary schools throughout the city of Bytom – a diagnosis of educational needs in the context of planning effective actions in primary cancer prevention. It seems that involving students in the process of identifying needs, determining priorities, planning and evaluating these actions is currently one of the most effective ways of developing awareness of cancer prevention.

Objectives: This paper is a report on the relationship between a sense of coherence (and its components) and work related patterns of behaviour in the group of nurses. Materials and Method: Data were collected by two questionnaires (Antonovsky’s Orientation Questionnaire and Work Related Patterns of Behaviour and Experience Questionnaire) in the sample of 331 volunteer nurses employed in three Polish general care hospitals. Results: The analysis of r-Pearson’s correlation and the linear multiple regression analysis revealed a strong relationship between the sense of coherence and healthy type of behaviour, and a strong negative relationship with a burnout type of behaviour. Conclusion: The results obtained in this study provide grounds for the conclusion that the sense of coherence correlates with healthy functioning at work in the group of nurses.

The development of health education, education in the scope of healthy lifestyles is significantly affected by the mass media, and primarily the Internet, which is an interactive source of information and the space to acquire competencies supporting health. Access to the Internet is getting more and more widespread; also the range of easily accessible content, related to the lifestyle has expanded. Migrations of populations tend to impair the traditionally understood image of the urban and rural environments. Technological advances in the field of transport communications and IT have also reduced the distance between the two discussed environments. The aim of this study was to assess the level of pro-health behaviors of women who are interested in a healthy lifestyle, and who live both in the countryside and in large cities. The study involved 78 women from the towns with up to 3 thousand inhabitants and 130 from the cities with a population over 100 thousand inhabitants. All research participants were active participants in one of the largest health services for mature women in Poland. The research was part of the PARP project -Global health problems, implemented by the Foundation ‘Smak Żcia’. Standardized research tools Health Behavior Inventory were applied according to the adaptation of Z. Juczyńki. As many as 30% of patients achieved a low level of pro-health behaviors, 45% obtained an average score, and only 25%-a high one, which due to an interest in the subject of a healthy lifestyle, occurring as a constant activity on the online health portal, can be regarded as an unsatisfactory result. The research participants (female subscribers of advice from pro-health service) willing to share their experience, commented on a variety of content related to health issues, however, the level of their health behaviors did not differ significantly from the average values for the Polish population. There was no statistically significant difference in the level of realized health behaviors between women living in rural and metropolitan environments. Research confirmed that Internet theme services concerning issues of a healthy lifestyle, are a chance to equalize disparities in pro-health behaviors, and consequently - in health itself, thus initiatives of raising interest in health education through the mass media ought to be supported.

Ukazano aspekty instytucjonalne i finansowe realizowanych programów.
This article focuses on health promotion for older people in the framework of the Euro- pean strategy of healthy ageing, which is proposed or already implemented in European countries. Various health and social strategies related to universal ageing process are presented in the article. Against the backdrop of health status of older people and their specific health risk the main actions of health promotion are described. Institutional and financial dimensions of health promotion programs are discussed. It is shown that medically justified and cost-effective health promotion actions which stimulate individual health control and long individual independency can reduce the pressure on the growth of public funds allocated on medical services for elderly people. These considerations are based on the first results of the European project Health Promotion and Prevention of Risk. Actions for Seniors — “Pro health 65+”, being a part of the Second European Health Program.

The aim of the study is to determine motivation of runners from Poland and the Czech Republic in the context of their participation in running competitions. In this study, correlations between age, experience, training period and motives for participation in the competition by comparing the cross-country runners from both countries was researched. The study examined the place of health in the structure of motives. The study involved 847 runners from Poland and 118 from the Czech Republic. The method of a diagnostic survey was carried out using questionnaires. Competition with ourselves, overcoming our own limits, and improving physical fitness are the main motives of runners who participate in running events. Motives related to health are placed in subsequent positions. Polish runners are more sport goal-oriented; this may result from the fact that in the Czech Republic recreational sport is more grounded in culture. Running events are an important element of cross-country passion, since up to nearly 45% of runners from the Czech Republic and more than half from Poland would limit the practice, or stop it, if they did not have eligibility to participate in competitions. Organizers of sports and recreational events involving road running should rather educate runners in the direction of healthy behaviors. They should enrich the content of health education emphasizing the value of active participation and healthy lifestyle over sports rivalry.

Introduction and objective. The aim of the study was investigation of the effect of simple prophylactic methods on the motivation for concern about oral hygiene among 13–15-year-olds. Materials and method. The study covered 98 children from 4 groups attending junior high school. Adolescents from 3 groups were randomly qualified for conducting prophylactic procedures, while the fourth group constituted the control group. Three examinations were performed: preliminary and check-up examinations after 4 and 12 months. The state of the teeth and periodontium and the frequency of brushing of teeth were evaluated. Results. After 4 months, an increase in the number of decayed teeth was observed in all groups; in the control group it was significantly higher compared to the groups subjected to prophylactic actions. After 4 months in the groups covered by prophylactic actions, a significant decrease was obtained in the number of adolescents with CPITN > 0. In the examinations performed after 12 months, no significant differences were found in the value of the DMF and the CPITN index in the examined groups. In both examinations, after 4 and 12 months, the declared frequency of brushing teeth increased, especially in the group which had been provided individual instructions concerning oral hygiene. Conclusions. 1) Implementation of prophylactic methods resulted in an improvement in the state of oral health among junior high school adolescents. 2) Prophylactic actions should be regularly repeated. 3) The provision of individual instruction with supervised individual teaching of brushing teeth resulted in an improvement in the motivation for concern about oral hygiene.

Health promotion requires intervention in social systems and encouraging them to develop a healthy environment. School is one of the important social systems contributing to health promotion. “The health promoting school” (HPS) programme was established in the 1980s while looking for ways of putting the health promotion concept into practice. The milestones in developing this programme were: the pilot project “The Health Promoting School” (1992–1995), establishing the European Network of Health Promoting Schools (1992) (transformed into Schools for Health in Europe in 2008) and four European conferences organized within the framework of these networks (1997, 2002, 2009, 2013). This article presents a discussion of the four resolutions which were the final documents of these conferences. They described the basic principles of HPS and the aims and directions of activities for further programme development. The documents are addressed to the people who create the educational and health policy, teachers and researchers in European countries who should support the development of HPSs – recognized as an investment in health, education and democracy.

Opis:

Opis:
The purpose of the current study was to assess servant leadership dimensions, perceived mental health benefits, and correlations between the two following an eight-week servant leadership theory-driven salsa dance programme taught to novice learners at a West Midlands, UK university. Upon completion of the salsa dance programme (frequency – once per week, intensity – moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, time – 90 minutes, type – group-based Cuban style salsa dance), a paper questionnaire was administered to the participants to complete in person. The questionnaire contained 18 items related to servant leadership dimensions (authenticity, empowerment, humility, standing back, and stewardship) in terms of the teaching and learning of salsa dance and four items related to perceived mental health benefits (mood enhancement, self-confidence, skill mastery, and social well-being). Authenticity and stewardship were rated higher in females when compared to males. Differences were found between perceived mental health benefits in both females and males with mood enhancement rated highest in both genders. This is the first study we are aware of to have applied principles of servant leadership in the teaching of salsa dance as a leisure-time physical activity. Servant leadership may have facilitated the high perceived mental health benefits observed.

Opis:
Rising number of chronic diseases worldwide requires improvement of patients’ care system, especially in disease prevention and health promotion. Therefore it is justified to broaden the range of services in community pharmacies in Poland. The aim of this study was to evaluate pharmacists’ opinion about health screenings for chronic diseases in community pharmacies. Research was based on original, anonymous questionnaire administered between July 2016 and March 2017 to pharmacists (n=175; 77.7% women and 22.3% men) practicing in a community pharmacy in Wielkopolska (n=106; 77.4% women and 22.6% men) and Zachodniopomorskie Region (n=69; 78.3% women and 21.7% men). The effect of age and gender on pharmacists’ opinions was evaluated. Among pharmacists who responded, 93.7% agreed that patients don’t have health check-ups when they don’t experience bothersome symptoms of a disease. Almost three fourth of respondents considered implementation of health screening services in pharmacy as valuable as it can have positive influence on development of pharmaceutical care. Younger pharmacists (p=0.019) who collaborate with physicians (p=0.009) were most certain about it. 80,0% of pharmacist, in particular younger one, would offer their patients the screening services (p=0.006). 79,4% pharmacists confirmed that this new service should be reimbursed by National Health Fund. Development of new health screening services in community pharmacies may help to prevent or lower the risk of complications associated with common chronic diseases.
