The theme of this paper is death and its ethnographic image. The presented data shows the results of long-term regional fieldworks and analysis of the collected data about the burial, cemeteries and post-mortem ritual in China (among the Han Chinese). I discussed the beliefs about ancestors, the soul and the afterlife, which are hidden deep in the minds of the Chinese people. The research aims at analyzing the symbolism and actions related to the death of the Han Chinese living in the southeastern regions of China. In this paper, I discuss the double funeral custom. First, the temporary hiding of bodies in the grave for a few years and later collecting the bones, cleaning them and re-burying. After 1949 as a result of top-down imposed by the government cremation, formerly cherished beliefs and customs had to be transformed. Nowadays, cremation is first, then the temporary burial, and putting an urn with ashes into the grave becomes a form of a proper burial.

In this paper we analyse several ways to compute the weights from the Regularized Han (RH) algorithm, the regularized version of Han’s algorithm for approximating the least squares solutions of inconsistent (incompatible) systems of linear inequalities. We tested our approaches on a classical transportation problem, aiming to provide a cost optimized solution to real world transportation problems, which often are unbalanced and inconsistent.

Among various ideological trends that shaped the emotional prototype of the Koreans, the concept of “tragic non-fulfilment han“ is of particular signifi cance. Its Korean notion, with all its nuances, is almost untranslatable in European languages. The term probably originates from Chinese and is believed to have meant ‘aversion’ or ‘irritation’. Step by step its semantic fi eld expanded to denote also: ‘regret’, ‘bitterness’, ‘insult’, ‘sorrow’, and the word itself came to function as one of the most important aesthetic categories, used in reference to Korean art, philosophy and literature. Later, han became a quasi-psychological notion signifying feelings of frustration, bitterness, disappointment and helplessness – emotions accumulated in the result of the prolonged suppression of one’s self, and of renouncing one’s needs and desires. It seems to be rooted in Confucianism, which legitimised the extremely hierarchical and patriarchal Korean state, and justifi ed in practice the discrimination of the weakest members of the society, in particular women. They faced highly demanding obligations, strict Confucian norms, and various restrictions in their social roles. The han experience could also result from the confl ict of values and ethical standards provoked by the syncretic combination of various traditional religious and philosophical systems. Such confl ict could cause an identity crisis manifested through fear, frustration and depression, interpreted as han. Another explanation focuses on the tragic history of Korea, especially of the 20th century. Its dramatic events provoked various fears and deep frustrations. There evolved even the concepts of the ‘national martyrdom’ and of the exceptional, but tragic mission of the Koreans. The enormous economic, technological, and cultural development of the Republic of Korea over the last decades changed mentality of the younger generations that do not understand the han experience and feelings. Hence today han became a symbol of the ancient times and of the Korean past.

Video games have been around for more than four decades. The purpose of video games is to entertain. Over time, the ways in which video games entertain have changed. Recently, there has been an influx of video games with the intent to educate. These games were created to educate the player while keeping them entertained. The impact of video games on education has yet to be examined. The purpose of this study is to gauge the effect of video games and its correlation with college entrance-exam scores. We assert that one major variable affecting the outcome of education and college entrance-exam score is the sudden prominence of video games in the American culture. Thus, our research will be on the effects that video games have on education, whether positive or negative.

In his present article the author deals with problems relating to the creative workshop of an artist acting at the court of the Polish King Sigismund III and also with influences of the contemporary West European painters’ circles that could determine the artistic personality of that painter. The possibility to actively participate in conservation works that were aimed at safeguarding in 1955 of the main altar of Pelplin Cathedral containing the works of Herman Han enabled the author to become thoroughly familiar with Han’s workshop techniques. As a result of the continued works at numerous paintings by the same artist (his work, among the others, is that titled „Coronation”) it has become possible for the author to extend his studies on structure of works by that artist. The author discusses in detail the kinds of supports that are typical for Han’s paintings, the structure of wood used for panels, its age, manners of its treatment as well as of its preparation including the selection of suitable materials, joining of the separate elements, their thickness, sizes and s.o. The painter’s grounds laid on supports, the ways used to achieve a genuine artistic effect that resulted from techniques developed by Han himself and also from a palette in the common use in times of the early Baroque are dealt with by the author on a background of the artist’s works whom he studied at the time of several preservations. A good deal of the author’s considerations is devoted to overpaintings (pentimenta) made by the artist himself as well as to precursory solutions applied in composition that were dictated by both fashion prevailing in the period and the artist’s creative invention and to negative consequences of the erroneous technological concepts and conditions under which the works were kept that altogether had a deciding effect on the state of their preservation. As an entirely separate problem is to be considered that of anonymity of master as the paintings are devoid of signatures; the only exception being the Latin text written with Herman Han’s hand on the reverse of „Adoration by Angels” ornating the predella of the main altar in the parish church, Czersk. Summarizing his considerations the author emphasizes that in view of the fact that there exist the considerable numbers of works by that painter which have not yet been investigated or thosç that may still be found in other places both artistic and technological problems arising from quite extraordinary artistic personality of Herman Han must be handled as those still open for discussion.

The influence of external and internal factors on the formation of the figurative language of the burial murals of the Han period has been analyzed. The ancient Chinese burial murals in the tombs of the Han era are known much less than traditional Chinese painting and architecture. Therefore, using the methods of historical analysis, comparative analysis, the analytical method and graph-analytical method, the influence of the worldview and religious ideas of the Han period on the figurative language of the murals of tombs was determined, and the main plot compositions and descriptions of typical performance techniques were listed. The specificity of the frescoes of the Han period was that they were composed of individual details—hollow bricks or stone slabs painted outward on a white base. They were numbered and installed in the appropriate places. It is believed that it was the funeral frescoes of the Han era that became an innovative breakthrough in painting towards a realistic, rather than fantastic and mystical, depiction of the world.
W artykule przeanalizowano wpływ czynników zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych na kształtowanie się języka figuratywnego malowideł funeralnych z okresu dynastii Han. Starożytne chińskie ścienne malowidła funeralne w grobowcach z epoki Han są znacznie mniej znane niż tradycyjne chińskie malarstwo i architektura. W związku z powyższym za pomocą metod analizy historycznej, analizy porównawczej, metody analitycznej i metody analityczno- graficznej określono wpływ światopoglądu i idei religijnych okresu dynastii na język figuratywny malowideł grobowców, tematykę głównych kompozycji i opisy. Wymieniono także typowe techniki wykonawcze. Specyfika fresków z okresu dynastii Han polegała na tym, że składały się z pojedynczych elementów – cegły drążonej lub kamiennych płyt pomalowanych na zewnątrz, na białej podstawie. Zostały one ponumerowane, a następnie zainstalowane we właściwych miejscach. Uważa się, że właśnie freski pogrzebowe z epoki Han stały się przełomem w malarstwie w kierunku realistycznego, a nie fantastycznie mistycznego odzwierciedlenia świata.

In current society, smart clothing technology has become a critical way to improve the life quality of the elderly. This work conducted a category product evaluation and user demand system through the bibliometrics method, product evaluation analysis, focus group interviews and questionnaires. Based on the system, we designed smart clothing from the aspects of the clothing structure, hardware, software program and intelligent terminal platform to meet the needs of disabled elderly people and their caregivers in multiple scenarios. According to the test results of the smart clothing, the average error of temperature and humidity monitoring is 0.20℃ and 2.88%RH. The time of putting on-taking off clothing in 6 representative daily scenarios was reduced by 51.67%. The daily body checking times, uncomfortable behaviours, and the anxiety of caregivers was decreased by 42.31%, 28.52% and 74.37%. Compared with ordinary clothing, six of the eight comfort performances are basically the same, and two are slightly worse.

This article belongs to folk linguistics. I have a query which includes ca. 300 informants. In standard Finnish, the 3. person pronoun “hän” refers to a human being (both female and male), and “se” to an animal, a thing, or an abstract idea. Nevertheless, these expressions are not typically used in all traditional folk dialects or in the actual colloquial language, as above. In my query, I want to get answers to the question, in which situations language users believe that they use the pronoun “hän” referring to a human being. According to the answers, informants are chiefly using “hän” in formal situations, and the pronoun “se” in everyday situations. This can be confusing for students learning Finnish as a second language. Some informants claim that they are using the pronoun “hän” because of politeness, or to the contrary, sarcastically, negatively or humorously. In these answers, the choice of pronouns is not neutral, but context-dependent. In folk linguistic query, it appears that the speakers don’t normally know how they actually are using words in reality. In order to reveal the real use it would be beneficial to compare our results to recorded spoken Finnish from authentic situations. An important research question would be, whether it is neutral to use the pronoun “hän” in general.

The final conclusion demonstrates that Krasiński developed his own vision of the North, and that it contradicts the generally accepted utopian image which dominated the early stage of Polish romanticism.

This paper presents the design, fabrication and testing of an improved thin-film thermal converter based on an electro-thermally excited and piezo-resistively detected micro-bridge resonator. The resonant thermal converter comprises a bifilar heater and an opposing micro-bridge resonator. When the micro-bridge resonator absorbs the radiant heat from the heater, its axial strain changes, then its resonant frequency follows. Therefore the alternating voltage or current can be transferred to the equivalent DC quantity. A non-contact temperature sensing mechanism eliminates heat loss from thermopiles and reduces coupling capacitance between the temperature sensor and the heater compared with traditional thin-film thermal converters based on thermopiles. In addition, the quasi-digital output of the resonant thin-film thermal converter eliminates such problems as intensity fluctuations associated with analogue signals output by traditional thin-film thermal converters. Using the fast-reversed DC (FRDC) method, the thermoelectric transfer difference, which determines the frequency-independent part of the ac-dc transfer difference, is evaluated to be as low as 1.1 · 10-6. It indicates that the non-contact temperature sensing mechanism is a feasible method to develop a high-performance thermal converter.

Aim: The article aimed at assessing Korean economic growth in line with the three pillars of sustainable development. Methodology: The authors employed basic statistical methods, literature analysis, and an examination of national and international reports and analyses. Results: Korean economic growth may be considered sustainable. However, significant problems in the social pillar should be highlighted. Implications and recommendations: The proposed original selection of indicators can be used to assess the economies of other countries. Given limited access to data, the study can be repeated based on data available only in the Korean language in the future. Originality/value: The literature often examines individual policies that impacted on Korea’s economic development and, on this basis, proposes solutions for developing countries. However, the broader discourse lacks an assessment of sustainable development beyond the economic aspect, as presented in this article.
Cel: Ocena koreańskiego wzrostu gospodarczego zgodnie z trzema filarami zrównoważonego rozwoju. Metodyka: Proste metody statystyczne, analiza literatury przedmiotu, analiza krajowych i międzynarodowych raportów i analiz. Wyniki: Koreański wzrost gospodarczy można uznać za zrównoważony. Niemniej jednak podkreślić należy istotne problemy w filarze społecznym. Implikacje i rekomendacje: Zaproponowany autorski dobór wskaźników może być wykorzystany do oceny gospodarki innych krajów. Ze względu na ograniczony dostęp do danych w przyszłości można powtórzyć badanie, opierając się na danych dostępnych tylko po koreańsku. Oryginalność/wartość: W literaturze przedmiotu często podejmowana jest ocena poszczególnych polityk, które miały wpływ na koreański rozwój gospodarczy, i na tej podstawie proponuje się rozwiązania dla krajów rozwijających się. Brakuje jednak w szerszym dyskursie oceny zrównoważonego rozwoju, wykraczającej poza sam aspekt ekonomiczny, co zostało przedstawione w artykule.

Dunhuang was arguably one of the most important cities on the so-called Silk Road. Its establishment was made possible due to Han emperor Wudi’s war against the nomadic tribes of the Xiongnu, who posed a major threat to the Chinese during the early years of the Han dynasty. The city was established as a strategic military settlement that was part of the regional tuntian system, and its role was to help secure the western borders of the empire. Due to the discovery of potential trading partners in the west during the reign of emperor Wudi, as well as the war which resulted in the vassalization of city states in the Takla Makan desert, Dunhuang became a trading hub from where caravans from the Chinese interior travelled west, which only increased its strategic value. This article will discuss what caused the evolution of Dunhaung from a frontier tuntian settlement into a major trading hub and strategically important city.

The thermal decomposition processes of HAN/PVA-based propellants have been investigated using a simultaneous thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) – differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), coupled with Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) system. The activation energy (Ea), pre-exponential factor A and reaction mechanism function f(α) of the decomposition processes have been determined by non-isothermal and Malek methods. The results showed that the decomposition process of an HAN/PVA sample occurs mainly in the temperature range 202.2~220.1 °C, with a mass loss, heat release and Ea of about 84.8%, 1474.18 and 88.76 kJ·mol–1, respectively. Of the seven metal oxides studied as catalysts, Al2O3, V2O5 and Fe2O3 have significant catalytic effects on an HAN/PVA-based propellant, in lowering the decomposition temperature, with Ea changing from 88.8 to 83.7, 85.6 and 113.6 kJ·mol–1, respectively. The f(α) of both HAN/PVA and HAN/PVA/Al2O3 samples can be expressed as f(α) = (1 – α)2, whereas f(α) = α or f(α) = α/2 fit well for the HAN/PVA/V2O5 and HAN/PVA/Fe2O3 samples.

The development of visual entertainment is connected with the development of micro-chip technology. From the 1970’s, we witness rapid development of that technology. Television sets are more and more often replaced by computers and cell-phones. Digital games are considered as attractive form of entertainment. They show colorful virtual reality and perfectly designed anatomy of enemies. Virtual reality more and more often resembles the reality. Cell-phones are used as telephones, calculators, GPS, Internet communicators, voice recorders, notebooks, bookreading devices, game platforms and they can be considered as personalized centers of management. They offer many functions and they are small, easy to carry, with small screens activated by finger-touch. On their small screens, we can watch films and look at photographs. Multimedia convergence is the basis of multi-level communication which includes different processes. Visual and voice communication is based on one small device. Modern communication technology influences almost all spheres of our lives.

The optimization process of design parameters for composite lining of heavy haul railway tunnel is a key problem to be solved in tunnel engineering design. In order to put forward a better design scheme of composite lining for heavy haul railway tunnel, combined with field measurement and numerical simulation, the optimal working condition design is carried out by changing the thickness of shotcrete layer, the type of grid steel frame and the thickness of secondary lining. The influence of the above design parameters on the stress state of the composite lining is analyzed to obtain the optimal design parameters. Finally, the safety performance of the optimized lining is evaluated by the ultimate bearing capacity curve of the secondary lining section. The research shows that: 1) The optimal design parameters of the composite lining of the tunnel are the thickness of the shotcrete layer of 25 cm, the type of the grid steel frame of H180, the thickness of the secondary lining arch waist and the side wall of 40 cm and 35 cm respectively; 2) Different from the single-track heavy haul railway tunnel, the displacement value of the vault settlement of the double-track heavy haul railway tunnel is significantly greater than that of the inner convergence. Increasing the thickness of the shotcrete layer and changing the type of the grid steel frame have better effects on reducing the vault settlement, and have little effect on the inner convergence.

This paper contains significant ethnobotanical information on folk-medicinal plants and their ethnopharmacological uses in Kadięehri. The aim of the study was mainly to collect and identify the plants used therapeutically by the local people, and to make available information about traditional herbal medicine. It was undertaken during the period 2011-2012 and is based on plants collected during field work. Fifty-six plants used in folk-medicine and belonging to 34 families were identified in this study. Of these, 48 species were wild, and 8 species were cultivated plants. The most common families were Rosaceae (12.5%), Lamiaceae (8.9%) and Asteraceae (7.1%); and the most common preparations were decoctions (36.7%). In addition, a cultural importance index (CI) and use report (UR) were calculated for each species. Based on the CI, the most important plants were Cydonia oblonga (0.77), Ecballium elaterium (0.66), Urtica urens (0.66), Vitis vinifera (0.66), Plantago lanceolata (0.65), Plantago major subsp. major (0.65) and Rosa canina (0.62). We found three species of plant (Astragalus noaeanus, Populus xcanescens and Salvia cyanescens) which had never before been reported to have medicinal properties.

Surface charging and particles aggregation ascharite are investigated through Zeta potential measurement, XPS analysis, SEM analysis and dissolution experiments. The results show that more Mg2+ are removed from ascharite surface after dissolution, which confirms that incongruent dissolution of ions in the case of certain ionic substances like rmagnesium ions, hydroxyl groups and borate ions can lead to a net charge on surface. Isomorphous substitution of Fe3+ for Mg2+ is also regarded as one factor that causes surface charging behavior, which is in consistent with the experimental data. The dissolution process is analyzed to show more details about the dissolution reactions. The disparity in the bonding energy of B–O and Mg–OH surface groups and the difference in free energy of hydration of surface groups are considered to be the basic reason that lead to incongruent dissolution. Eventually, the effect of surface potential on particles aggregation is analyzed by DLVO theory, indicating that dissolution of ascharite has a detrimental effect on particles dispersion.
