State-of-the-art SOI transistors require a very small body. This paper examines the effects of body thinning and thin-gate oxide in SOI MOSFETs on their electrical characteristics. In particular, the influence of film thickness on the interface coupling and carrier mobility is discussed. Due to coupling, the separation between the front and back channels is difficult in ultra-thin SOI MOSFETs. The implementation of the front-gate split C-V method and its limitations for determining the front- and back-channel mobility are described. The mobility in the front channel is smaller than that in the back channel due to additional Coulomb scattering. We also discuss the 3D coupling effects that occur in FinFETs with triple-gate and omega-gate configurations. In low-doped or tall fins the corner effect is suppressed. Narrow devices are virtually immune to substrate effects due to a strong lateral coupling between the two lateral sides of the gate. Short-channel effects are drastically reduced when the lateral coupling screens the drain influence.

In this research work, a Cylindrical Surrounding Double-Gate (CSDG) MOSFET design in a stacked-Dual Metal Gate (DMG) architecture has been proposed to incorporate the ability of gate metal variation in channel field formation. Further, the internal gate's threshold voltage (VTH1) could be reduced compared to the external gate (VTH2) by arranging the gate metal work-function in Double Gate devices. Therefore, a device design of CSDG MOSFET has been realized to instigate the effect of Dual Metal Gate (DMG) stack architecture in the CSDG device. The comparison of device simulation shown optimized electric field and surface potential profile. The gradual decrease of metal work function towards the drain also improves the Drain Induced Barrier Lowering (DIBL) and subthreshold characteristics. The physics-based analysis of gate stack CSDG MOSFET that operates in saturation involving the analogy of cylindrical dual metal gates has been considered to evaluate the performance improvements. The insights obtained from the results using the gate-stack dual metal structure of CSDG are quite promising, which can serve as a guide to further reduce the threshold voltage roll-off, suppress the Hot Carrier Effects (HCEs) and Short Channel Effects (SCEs).

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy oddziaływań działających na zamknięcie hydrotechniczne w postaci klapy soczewkowej zainstalowanej na segmencie podnoszonym oraz nośności klapy pracującej jako ustrój cienkościenny o profilu zamkniętym. Obliczenia wykonano według obowiązujących norm – Eurokodów (PN-EN 1990, PN-EN 1993-1-1, PN-EN 1993-1-3, PN-EN 1993-1-7 oraz PN-EN 1993-4), oraz wycofanych norm (PN-B-03200 i PN-B-03203). Przeanalizowano wartości efektów oddziaływań dla sześciu położeń klapy. Analiza wyników wskazuje, że wartości oddziaływań wyznaczone według Eurokodów są wyższe dla warunków eksploatacyjnych i znacząco niższe dla warunków wyjątkowych pracy zamknięcia w porównaniu do oddziaływań wyznaczonych zgodnie z zasadami przedstawionymi w wycofanej normie. Wskazuje to na konieczność wydania opracowania do norm obowiązujących, które regulowałoby wartości współczynników częściowych stosowanych w projektowaniu zamknięć hydrotechnicznych, gdyż te podane w Eurokodach nie odzwierciedlają charakteru obciążenia działającego na budowle wodne. W dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń statyczno - wytrzymałościowych dla najbardziej niekorzystnego przypadku obciążenia. Analiza wyników weryfikacji stanu granicznego nośności klapy soczewkowej wskazuje, że można bezpiecznie zaprojektować stalowe zamknięcie wodne bazując na zapisach zawartych w normach zharmonizowanych. Jest to proces pracochłonny, a największą trudność stanowi ustalenie obliczeniowych wartości efektów oddziaływań. Ze względu na specyfikę konstrukcji stalowych zamknięć wodnych i warunków ich pracy niezbędne jest opracowanie przepisów regulujących zasady jakie należy zachować podczas ich projektowania.
The article presents the results of calculations concerning actions on hydraulic gate: flap gate installed on a segment and resistance of flap gate designed as thin-walled cross-section. The calculations were conducted accordingly to valid standards PN-EN 1990, PN-EN 1993-1-1, PN-EN 1993-1-3, PN-EN 1993-1-7 and PN-EN 1993-4 and to standard which was withdrawn – PN-B- 03200 and PN-B-03203. The values of actions were calculated for six possible flap gate positions. The analysis of obtained results indicates that the values of impacts calculated acc. to European standards for common operational conditions are overestimated and values calculated for accidental design conditions are significantly underestimated. It indicates the necessity of implementing the regulations concerning the values of partial factors used in design process of hydraulic gates, because the factors implemented in Eurocodes do not reflect the character of actions on hydraulic structures. Furthermore in the article the calculations concerning mechanical resistance of elements of flap gate are presented. Analysis of obtained results reveals that a hydraulic gate such as flap gate may be designed using rules presented in Eurocodes, and the difficulty is in establishing the design values of actions’ effects. Due to specificity and operating conditions of hydraulic gates it is necessary to elaborate the document concerning the rules which must be fulfilled in design process.

Opis:
Due to low costs, PLC controllers are used not only in technological processes but also in everyday life. The article presents the possibility of using a PLC controller to control the operation of a sliding gate. For this purpose, a design was created and a sliding gate model made controlled with a Siemens S7-1200 PLC controller. This model is used to develop various gate control algorithms, especially for appropriate gate protection against crushing or uncontrolled closing. In addition, this model is connected via the Internet to a stand equipped with the SCADA application. The iFix 5.8 PL application was used to visualise the operation of the door, which, by means of a communication driver, allows the elevator operation to be controlled remotely. In addition, elements are shown in a graphic way, whereby it is possible to assess the position of the gate.

The author describes in the article project of researching the anthroponymy of the Polish-Czech borderland on the section of the Moravian Gate (Gorzyce – Krzyżanowice municipalities on the Polish side and Hať – Hilheřovice – Bohumín municipalities on the Czech side). The described borderland belongs to the so-called transitional borders, whose characteristic feature is the mixing of the population of two or more nations (or ethnic groups), and the effect of it is movement of the population in this area. As a result, the so-called third culture has developed, which had a major impact on the shape of names of the inhabitants, as well as on the choices of names for their children. Another factor in changing the form of surnames is the interference of an official who has often changed the spelling form of the surname in accordance with the language norm in force in his native language.

Optical logic gates are very important structures required for creating all-optical digital signal processing systems. Optical XOR and XNOR gates can be used for designing optical adders and optical comparators, respectively. In this paper we proposed a novel structure which can be used for simultaneous implementation of optical XOR and XNOR logic gates. The proposed structure was designed using a nonlinear photonic crystal ring resonator. The delay time for XOR and XNOR gates are 1.7 and 3 ps, respectively.

The paper deals with a removable steel inner gate which was designed to separate two parts of a dry dock of about 70 m in width and 380 m in length. The gate allows for independent assembly of ship structures in the two separated parts of the dock. The fore part of the dock can be flooded while the after part is dry. The gate was designed by IDEK Company Ltd in 2011 and it was soon constructed and used by CRIST Shipyard in Gdynia.

Optical logics will play a crucial role in the next generation all optical data processing networks. Therefore an all optical majority gate will be designed by using nonlinear photonic crystal ring resonators. For realizing the proposed structure we need three nonlinear resonant rings. In order to make nonlinear resonant rings, we used chalcogenide glass as the dielectric material for the dielectric rods. The output port of the proposed structure will be active only when two or three logic input ports are active. The rise and fall time values of the proposed structure are about 2 and 1 ps, respectively. The total footprint of the proposed structure is about 1287 μm2.

An infrastructure of modem production systems is based on technologically advanced machines and devices. As a very important element of most water supply systems, valves are exposed to the effects of strong hydrodynamic forces. When exposed to large physical quantities, the valve and piping can be damaged, which could endanger the performance of a water supply system. This is the main reason why it is necessary to foresee and determine the maximum values of velocity, pressure and other physical quantities that can occur in the system under certain conditions. Predicting extreme conditions allows us to correctly size the valve for the expected conditions to which the valve might be exposed, which is also the main objective of this paper. One of the methods for predicting and determining extreme values on a valve is to perform a simulation with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This is exactly the method used in the preparation of this paper with the aim of gaining insight into the physical magnitudes for models of gate valves positioned inside a pipe under characteristic degrees of valve closure. The Ansys CFX 19.1 and Ansys Fluent 19.1 software was used to simulate the hydrodynamic analysis and obtain the required results. With the increase in water retention needs and planned river regulation, it might be important to investigate the dynamic resistance of vulnerable elements of hydroelectric power plants, including steelwater locks. The most frequent dynamic loads affecting hydroengineering structures in Poland include vibrations caused by heavy road and railway traffic, piling works and mining tremors. More destructive dynamic loads, including earthquakes, may also occur in our country, although their incidence is relatively low. However, given the unpredictable nature of such events, as well as serious consequences they might cause, the study of the seismic resistance of the steel water gate, as one of the most vulnerable elements of a hydroelectric power plant, seems to be important. In this study, a steel radial gate has been analyzed. As far as water gates are concerned, it is among the most popular solutions because of its relatively small weight, compared to plain gates. A modal analysis of the steel radial gate was conducted with the use of the FEM in the ABAQUS software. All structural members were modelled using shell elements with detailed geometry representing a real structure.Water was modelled as an added mass affecting the structure. Different water levels were used to determine the most vulnerable state of the working steel water gate. The results of the modal analysis allowed us to compare the frequencies and their eigenmodes in response to different loads, which is one of the first steps in researching the dynamic properties of steel water gates and their behaviour during extreme dynamic loads, including earthquakes.

The article presents similarities between the nature of a gate as an element of the urban space and the life of the maid at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The gate appears as a portal that connects two distinct worlds: the safe and bright world of the home and the dark and dangerous world of the street. Depending on the point of view, the gate can be a shelter or a place of fall. It is also an egalitarian space of contact for domestic maids and the residents of the building. As a sociocultural place, the gate affected the life of the maid and often determined her fate. The analysis is based on excerpts from the novel Kaśka Kariatyda by Gabriela Zapolska.

In this paper, we approach the Airport Gate Assignment Problem by Multi-objective Optimization as well as Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization. We solve a bi-criteria formulation of this problem by the commercial mixed-integer programming solver CPLEX and a dedicated Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization algorithm. To deal with multiple objectives, we apply a methodology that we developed earlier to capture decision-maker preferences in multi-objective environments. We present the results of numerical tests for these two approaches.

Opis:
All-optical logic is the key to future high speed and large capacity optical transmission, the realization of optical packet switching and optical computing, and it has a very profound influence on the development of future optical communication. A linear optical amplifier as a new type of semiconductor optical amplifier, which has a good gain characteristic, has better signal performance than a traditional semiconductor optical amplifier in the wavelength conversion. This article presents a numerical simulation model of all-optical logic XOR gate and its logic operation based on cross-gain modulation of linear optical amplifier, and has also completed some of the basic logic operations, including AND, OR, NOT operations.

The current trend in scaling transistor gate length below 60 nm is posing great challenges both related to process technology and circuit/system design. From the process technology point of view it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue scaling in traditional way due to fundamental limitations like resolution, quantum effects or random fluctuations. In turn, this has an important impact on electrical device specifications especially leakage current and the circuit power dissipation.

The objective of this contribution is to contrastively analyze the currency of words formed by the frac- tolexeme -gate in French and Czech languages. Before presenting the results of our research that relies especially on data derived from the SketchEngine (Czech Web 2017; French Web 2017) corpora, we find it necessary to address theoretical questions to frame the concept of fractocomposition in current linguistic studies. We have borrowed the term fractocomposition from the French linguist Jean-François Sablay- rolles (2019, p. 149), who defines it as a case of compounds “one of whose elements is a fractolexeme,   a fragment of lexie which is valid for the entire lexie”. However, in our discussion we note also other terms that are also used to denote the same concept.

The evaluation of the world's first MOSFETs with epitaxially-grown rare-earth high-k gate dielectrics is the main issue of this work. Electrical device characterization has been performed on MOSFETs with high-k gate oxides as well as their reference counterparts with silicon dioxide gate dielectric. In addition, by means of technology simulation with TSUPREM4, models of these devices are established. Current-voltage characteristics and parameter extraction on the simulated structures is conducted with the device simulator MEDICI. Measured and simulated device characteristics are presented and the impact of interface state and fixed charge densities is discussed. Device parameters of high-k devices fabricated with standard poly-silicon gate and replacement metal gate process are compared.

Opis:
We discuss a possible realization of a quantum controlled-NOT gate with the use of two coupled quantum dots. Transitions between quantum states of a computational basis are driven by the microwave π-pulse. The parameters of the proposed nanodevice have been optimized in order to make the operation cycle of the gate as short as possible. Numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation allow us to simulate transitions between the quantum states which correspond to the subsequent stages of the gate's operation. The performed time-dependent simulations are a test of realizability of the quantum controlled-NOT gate in the nanodevice.

Artykuł prezetuje wyniki badań architektonicznych wieży bramnej zamku Górnego w Opolu. We wstępie omówiono najstarsze wzmianki, dotychczasową literaturę oraz przedstawiono opis obiektu. Bazując na wynikach badań realizację wieży bramnej można wiązać z działalnością księcia Władysława Opolczyka i osadzić w latach 1382–87. Średniowieczną wieżę bramną wzniesiono na planie prostokąta. Dość regularną kompozycję gotyckiej elewacji tworzyły wnęki oraz otwory zakomponowane na dwóch poziomach. Najniższy złożony był z otworu bramnego flankowanego przez dwie ostrołuczne blendy i parę lizen, oraz okulusa na południowym skraju. Drugi poziom, oddzielony płyciną fryzową, posiadał dwoje okien prostokątnych – na osi nad przejazdem oraz nad południową lizeną. Powyżej nich założono ganek hurdycji. We wnętrzach dwóch dolnych kondygnacji zlokalizowano pomieszczenia obsługi mostu zwodzonego, lochu, a także pieca ogrzewającego salę na piętrze. Poziom przejazdu wypełniała sień i izba straży oraz studnia – zejście na poziom obsługi mostu. Najwyższa kondygnacja miała funkcję obronną. Wieżę przebudowano w XVII wieku, a także w latach 1858–59, kiedy to zwieńczenie ukształtowano w formie stylizowanego niskiego krenelaża. Klatkę schodową wprowadzono w 1898 roku, a elewację północną zasłonięto w 1938 roku.
The article presents the results of architectural research of the gate tower of the Górny Castle in Opole. In the introduction, the oldest mentions, current literature and description of the object are discussed. Based on the results of research, the implementation of the gate tower can be associated with the activities of Prince Vladislaus II of Opole and embedded in 1382–87. The medieval gate tower was erected with a rectangular plan with the front facing east. Quite a regular composition of the Gothic façade was formed by recesses, widows and door composed on two levels. The lowest one was composed of: a gate opening flanked by two pointed blends and a pair of pilaster strips, and an oculus on the southern edge. The second level, separated by a frieze panel, had two rectangular windows – on the axis above the passage and above the southern panel. Above them, the wooden hoards was established. The interiors of the lower two floors have service rooms for drawbridges, a dungeon and a furnace heating the room on the first floor. The level of the passage was filled with an entrance hall and a fire chamber and a well – descent to the level of bridge service. The top floor had a defensive function. The tower was rebuilt in the 17ᵗʰ century, and also in the years 1858–59, when the crown was shaped in the form of a stylized low battlement. The façade arrangement was also changed by introducing semi-circular and pointed windows openings. A cage frame was introduced in 1898 and the north facade was covered in 1938.

Monte Carlo simulations are more and more popular trend in nuclear medicine imaging. They were also widely used in radiotherapy and brachytherapy with use of more general simulation software. GATE (Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission) is a platform developed on general Monte Carlo code designed for simulating and tracking the passage of particles through matter (Geant4) but is specifically designed for nuclear medicine imaging purposes. The aim of this work was to create and validate a model of specific gamma-camera (E.Cam DUET), used in our department, for further use in image analysis and dosimetry field, with GATE simulation platform. We have modeled in first step a point source in the air in three configurations of gamma camera (without collimator, with low-energy high-resolution (LEHR) collimator and with high-energy (HE collimator)), then we have created a phantom with three spherical sources of different sizes but with the same concentration of the radiopharmaceutical. Simulation results were compared to the measured values of the energy spectrum and images obtained on the detectors, and show a good agreement for the point source experiments and revealed some differences for the phantom studies. This results shows that some additional tests and refinements are required but also allows us to study the image degrading quality factors, such as septal penetration and to work towards eliminating them from the pictures.

Numerical simulations of the gate leakage current in metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structures based on the transfer matrix approach were carried out. They show contribution of different components of this current in MIS structures with best known high-k dielectrics such as Ta2O5 and TiO2. The comparison of the gate leakage current in MIS structures with SiO2 layer as well Ta2O5 and TiO2 layers is presented as well. Additionally, the minimum Si electron affinity to a gate dielectric which allows to preserve given level of the gate leakage current is proposed.

This work evaluates the influence of gate drive circuitry to cascode GaN device’s switching waveforms. This is done by comparing three PCBs using three double-pulse-test (DPT) with different gate driving loop design. Among important parasitic elements, source-side inductance shows a significant impact to gate-source voltage waveform. A simulation model based on experimental measurement of the cascode GaNFET used in this work is modified by author. The simulation model is implemented in a synchronous buck converter topology and hereby to assess the impact of gate driving loop of cascode GaN device in both continuous conduction mode (CCM) and critical conduction mode (CRM). Apart from simulation, a synchronous buck converter prototype is presented for experimental evaluation, which shows a 99.15% efficiency at 5A under soft-switching operation (CRM) with a 59ns dead-time.

The paper attempts to assess the possibility of using typical check structures equipped with sluice gates to measure the volumetric flow rate in the irrigation channels. The submerged flow through the sluice gate was considered. Experimental tests on a model of typical check structure in 1:2 scale were carried out. The conducted analyzes confirmed the possibility of using discharge equation for submerged flow through the sluice gate to estimate the water flow rate in the irrigation channels. In order to obtain accurate values of flow rate, the downstream tailwater depth should be measured at the appriopriate distance from the sluice gate. For different values of gate-opening height, the downstream water depth measurement locations allowing for a correct flow estimation were indicated. This approach might be useful in calibration of other designs of sluice gates for flow measurements.

Baszta Bramy Lubawskiej w Nowym Mieście Lubawskim (d. Neumark) powstała w II połowie XIV wieku. Jak dotychczas zabytek ten nie był objęty zainteresowaniem badawczym, chociaż posiada interesującą ikonografię z XVII i XVIII wieku obrazującą jego przekształcenia. Zmiany, jakie nastąpiły w XVIII wieku, utrwalone zostały w XIX wieku, kiedy to baszta została zaadaptowana na sąd, więzienie oraz strażnicę straży pożarnej. Obecnie baszta wykorzystywana jest jako siedziba ZHP. Potrzeba naprawy dachu pozwoliła na wykonanie badań architektonicznych. Rezultatem badań stało się odkrycie reliktów pierwotnej gotyckiej konstrukcji dachu. Przekaz ikonograficzny jest zgodny z rozpoznanymi elementami, tym samym potwierdzone zostało unikatowe rozwiązanie szczytu baszty z 4 gankami z każdej strony baszty. Tego typu rozwiązanie nie jest typowe w architekturze gotyckiej. Wykonana analiza wykazała, iż podobna forma szczytu baszty znana jest z Rothenburga we Frankonii. Istnienie baliwatu Zakonu Krzyżackiego we Frankonii oraz migracja osadnicza z tych terenów do Państwa Zakonnego jest potwierdzona na II połowę XIV wieku. Poświadczałoby to proweniencję tego rozwiązania. W ramach projektu naprawy dachu baszty zaproponowano poprawę estetyczną istniejących zniszczonych szczytów. Mimo ograniczonych środków na remont opracowany projekt konserwatorski przywracał obecność formy ganków, choć jedynie na istniejących obecnie szczytach. Działanie takie służyłoby przywróceniu w społecznej świadomości faktu zachowania w Nowym Mieście Lubawskim oryginalnego i unikatowego zabytku. Decyzją Wojewódzkiego Konserwatora Zabytków zakres prac ograniczono jedynie do naprawy dachu. Należy oczekiwać, iż w przyszłości wykonana zostanie pełna rekonstrukcja szczytu baszty, a przeprowadzone badania architektoniczne będą jej mocną podstawą.
The tower of the Lubawska Gate in Nowe Miasto Lubawskie (formerly Neumark) was erected in the 2nd half of the 14th century. So far the monument has not been of much scientific interest, although it has an interesting iconography from the 17th and 18th century reflecting its transformations. Alterations which took place in the 18th century were preserved in the 19th century when the tower was adapted to house a court of law, prison and a fire brigade headquarters. Currently the tower is used for the Polish Scouts headquarters. The need to repair the roof allowed for conducting architectonic research, the result of which was discovering the relics of the original Gothic roof construction. The iconographic record agrees with the identified elements, thus confirming the unique solution of the tower top with 4 galleries on each side of the tower. That type of solution is not typical for Gothic architecture. The conducted analysis revealed that a similar form of the tower top is known from Rothenburg in Franconia. The existence of the Teutonic Knights' bailiwick in Franconia and settlement migration from that region to the State of the Teutonic Order has been confirmed for the 2nd half of the 14th century, which would confirm the provenance of the solution. Within the project of the tower roof repair it was suggested that the aesthetics of the existing damaged tops could be improved. Despite limited financial means for renovation, the prepared conservation project restored the form of galleries, but only on the currently existing tops. Such approach would serve to restore to the social conscience the fact of preserving an original and unique monument in Nowe Miasto Lubawskie. By the decision of the Voivodeship Monument Conservator the range of work was limited merely to repairing the roof. It is to be expected that a full reconstruction of the tower top will be carried out in the future, and the conducted architectonic research will serve as its basis.

This paper presents the concept and implementation of an electronic system for a switched-capacitor DC-DC converter with high voltage gain. The converter consists of seven switches, five of which being controlled like high-side type. This paper presents a non-typical bootstrap-based gate-driver system so that the converter can run using a single voltage source. The converter requires a special switching pattern to drive seven switches in a steady state and also during the start-up of the converter and the regulation of the output voltage. Therefore, an FPGA-based digital control system is used with various switching algorithms and protection functions implemented. The presented converter is an autonomic device that taps the energy from the main input. Therefore, the electronic system of the converter is equipped with a self-supply system with a wide range of the input voltage. The parameters of the converter such as voltage gain, voltages and power ranges can be scalable for prospective applications with the proposed control system.

Opis:
The "Gate of Poznan" is one of the most unorthodox buildings accomplished in Poland in the last years. It was designed on the basis of the winning project of the international architectural competition. Our team of structural engineers faced and solved many unusual problems mostly caused by a cantilever form of the building with a suspended pedestrian bridge. The main sources of problems were: general structural system consisting of highly strained concrete cantilever walls with openings, irregular loads on the foundations with some areas of an uplift, vast use of an architectural concrete in structural elements both inside and outside of the building. Special system of slabs with internal lightening cavities was used in order to reduce weight of the cantilever part and to cover a span up to 15 m. External walls were designed as the sandwich structures made of architectural concrete with external layers with no expansion joints. The pedestrian bridge with a span of 62,4 m was analyzed paying special attention to dynamics and vibration.

Floating point (FP) multiply-accumulate (MAC) represents one of the most important operations in a wide range of applications, such as DSP, multimedia or graphic processing. This paper presents a FP MAC half precision (16-bit) FPGA implementation. The main contribution of this work is represented by the utilization of modern FPGA DSP block for performing both mantissa multiplication and mantissa accumulation. In order to use the DSP block for these operations, the alignment right shifts are performed before the multiply-add stage: a right shift on one of the multiplicand, and, a left shift for the other. This results in efficient DSP usage; thus both cost savings and higher performance (high working frequencies and low latencies) are targeted for MAC operations.

This article concerns the archival enterprise at the Grodzka Gate-NN Theater Center in Lublin [Ośrodek „Brama Grodzka - Teatr NN”; http://teatrnn.pl] and those aspects of its operation that are connected with the artistic processing of the idea of an archive as a “memory ark.” The author discusses key elements of the archive’s form and function in connection with the Center’s social and educational activities, showing their relation to questions of cultural memory, memory as responsibility, the social dimension of memory, and ethical and artistic aspects of remembering (especially the remembrance and non-remembrance of victims of the Shoah).The article also reviews those works of the Center in which the form and function of the archive are translated into various realizations of “memory theater” (including “behind-the-scenes theater” inspired by the form of the archive, mysteries of memory, the expanded digital archive and its network infrastructure oriented on “memory work”, etc.)

In a classical measurement the Shannon information is a natural measure of our ignorance about properties of a system. There, observation removes that ignorance in revealing properties of the system which can be considered to preexist prior to and independent of observation. Because of the completely different root of a quantum measurement as compared to a classical measurement, conceptual difficulties arise when we try to define the information gain in a quantum measurement using the notion of Shannon information. In contrast to classical measurements, quantum measurements, with very few exceptions, cannot be claimed to reveal a property of the individual quantum system existing before the measurement is performed. A mathematical theory of computation that is based on quantum physics is bound to be different. They are the analogues for quantum computers to classical logic gates for conventional digital computers. Although quantum gates work on qubits in a much different fashion from standard electronic circuits, they only differ in their basic effects in one sense: reversibility.

Opis:
Creation of large-scale W state quantum networks is a key step for realization of various quantum information tasks. Regarding the photonics technology, a simple optical setup was proposed for the fusion of two W states. Recently it was shown that via a single Fredkin gate, this basic so-called "fusion setup" can be enhanced. However the main problem was that the probability of success of realization of Fredkin gate with linear optics is too low. In this work, we show that the same enhancement can be made possible via one Toffoli and one CNOT gate, instead of a Fredkin gate. Not only the probability of success of the combination of these two gates is much higher, than that of a single Fredkin gate via linear optics, but also there is another method for implementing our setup with current photonics technology, almost with a unity success probability: A hybrid circuit consisting of a Toffoli gate which can be implemented via one-way quantum computation on a weighted graph state of 8 qubits with a unity success probability and a linear optical CNOT gate which has a success probability close to unity. Therefore the preparation of polarization based encoded multi particle entangled W states of arbitrary sizes becomes considerably more efficient.

Wnętrze rzęski nie jest oddzielone od cytoplazmy błoną biologiczną, a mimo to ma unikatowy skład. Jest to możliwe dzięki działaniu zlokalizowanej u podstawy rzęski tzw. bariery rzęskowej. W skład tej struktury wchodzi dystalna część ciałka podstawowego, proksymalna część rzęski, umiejscowione na nich włókna przejściowe i łączniki Y, a także fragmenty przylegającej do nich błony komórkowej i rzęskowej. Tak złożona budowa umożliwia z jednej strony zatrzymanie u podstawy rzęski białek niepożądanych, a z drugiej, ułatwienie transportu do wnętrza rzęski elementów niezbędnych do jej budowy i funkcjonowania.
The intraciliary space is not separated from the cell cytoplasm by a membrane, but still it has a unique composition. It is possible due to the existence of so-called ciliary gate localized at the ciliary base. This structure is composed of the distal part of basal body, proximal portion of cilium, transition fibers and Y-links and adjacent part of the cell and ciliary membrane. This complex structure, on one hand retains the unwanted proteins at the ciliary base and, on the other hand, facilitates the intraciliary transport of cargos required for cilia formation and function.

Most systems used in quantum physics experiments require the efficient and simultaneous recording different multi-photon coincidence detection events. In such experiments, the single-photon gated counting systems can be applicable. The main sources of errors in these systems are both instability of the clock source and their imperfect synchronization with the excitation source. Below, we propose a solution for improvement of the metrological parameters of such measuring systems. Thus, we designed a novel integrated circuit dedicated to registration of signals from a photon number resolving detectors including a phase synchronizer module. This paper presents the architecture of a high-resolution (~60 ps) digital phase synchronizer module cooperating with a multi-channel coincidence counter. The main characteristic feature of the presented system is its ability to fast synchronization (requiring only one clock period) with the measuring process. Therefore, it is designed to work with various excitation sources of a very wide frequency range. Implementation of the phase synchronizer module in an FPGA device enabled to reduce the synchronization error value from 2.857 ns to 214.8 ps.

The article presents the experimental results of the calibration of the typical check structure with sluice gates installed in a trapezoidal irrigation channel. Hydraulic experiments on sluice gate discharge capacity were performed on a model made in a 1:2 scale. It has been explained how the method of measuring the downstream water depth below the sluice gate in the check structures installed in a trapezoidal irrigation channels affects the measured depth values. On the basis of hydraulic measurements, regression relationships were developed for the discharge coefficients for submerged outflow through the sluice gate in two types of sluice gates installed in irrigation channels. The formulas allow to calculate the volumetric flow rate below the submerged sluice gate after determining the water depth upstream and below the sluice gate and the gate opening height. The differences in volumetric flow rates calculated from regression relationships and measured values do not exceed 10%, which confirms their practical suitability for calculating the discharge through a sluice gate mounted in a trapezoidal channel. The values of the discharge coefficients determined in the channels with rectangular cross-sections are not useful for the discharge coefficients of sluice gates check structures installed in trapezoidal channels. Nomograms and relationships for discharge coefficients of the analysed sluice gate were developed.

This paper presents the phenomenon of water flow through a flap gate and the associated air entrainment from the subjet space by water jet. Air entrainment results in a temporary pressure drop in subjet space which subsequently might result in flap gate vibration, additional loads, change of the trajectory jet and coefficient of discharge. The paper, of an experimental character, submits an analysis of the conditions for recirculation occurrence, the parameters affecting its development and the empirical formula worked-out which renders it possible to calculate the amount of the air entrainment from the subjet space by a water jet, recirculation included.

This article focuses on the role of oral history interviews as sources for narrating as well as enacting the Polish-Jewish past. Special attention is given to two exhibitions: The Portrait of a Place and Lublin: Memory of the Place. Both were prepared by the Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre Centre, a cultural institution in Lublin. Oral testimonies that constitute part of these exhibitions will be analyzed as both documentary material, which is a source of certain types of representation of the past, and as “artistic matter” for “memory staging.” This article discusses the substantial value of narratives created in this way in the context of the Center’s educational and commemorative activities.

The composite weir-gate structure is considered an important hydraulic structure. This is because of its widely used in civil engineering hydraulic works especially in an irrigation system to measure, control, divert and keep the required water level. This study focuses on the influence of barrier existence on the hydraulic parameters that described the hydraulic characteristics of composite weir-gate hydraulic structure. In this study, several experimental runs were conducted to determine the effect of barrier's location, spacing and number on the water level and depth at the downstream region of flume, discharge coefficient of composite hydraulic structure, and flow rate throughout the flume. Our experiments indicated that the turbulence intensity, inlet effect, and position, gap, and number of barriers have affected the hydraulic behavior of weir-gate structure. This appears clearly by obtaining different results of discharge coefficient and flow rate that cross the weir-gate structure comparing with same cases without barriers. Also this study gives some insights on the significance roles of fluid separation, eddies generation near the barrier, fluid resistance and overlap between overflow and underflow velocities and their effects on hydraulic factors that dominate the problem. These hydraulic factors must be considered in the design and construction of barrier/barriers in open channel to prevent any fluctuation or drop in discharge, water elevation and the required water depth at downstream region.

This paper deals with the implementation of a DC and AC double-gate MOSFET compact model in the Verilog-AMS language for the transient simulation and the configuration of ultra low-power analog circuits. The Verilog-AMS description of the proposed model is inserted in SMASH circuit simulator for the transient simulation and the configuration of the Colpitts oscillator, the common-source amplifier, and the inverter. The proposed model has the advantages of being simple and compact. It was validated using TCAD simulation results of the same transistor realized with Silvaco Software.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki numerycznej prognozy działania klapowego regulatora stanów wody w rowie nawadniającym. Obliczenia numeryczne wykonano przy zmiennych wartościach dopływu wody do rowu oraz oporów przepływu w rowie charakteryzowanych współczynnikiem szorstkości Manninga. Sformułowano ogólne relacje pomiędzy czasem otwarcia klapy regulatora a wielkością natężenia przepływu w rowie i oporami przepływu. Wyznaczono wartość natężenia dopływu wody do rowu nawadniającego, przy której klapa regulatora pozostaje cały czas uchylona.
This paper presents the results of a numerical prediction of the performance of a circular flap gate upstream water level regulator in an irrigation ditch. Numerical calculations were performed assuming variable values of the volumetric flow rate. In order to take into account the channel resistance, the Manning roughness coefficient was used. General relations between the opening time of the regulator flap and the flow rate and channel resistance were formulated. The value of a flow rate in the irrigation canal was determined, at which the regulator flap remains open.

We present the principle (Chapter 2), implementation (Chapter 3) and test results (Chapter 4) of direct digital synthesizer (DDS) that most modules, i.e. phase accumulator, ROM memory and optional amplitude control module are implemented in a digital Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) device. To obtain smooth shape of analog output signals the FPGA device is followed by a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and low-pass filter (LPF). The developed DDS allows for generating signals with frequency up to 50 MHz and amplitude up to 1 Vpp. The frequency adjustment resolution is 1.9 kHz, while the amplitude adjustment step equals 61.04 µV. The use of programmable device allows for changing the size of tuning words to adapt the DDS parameters to requirements of particular application.

Tekst jest rozdziałem wydanej w roku 1981 książki La nuit des proletaires, będącej rozszerzoną wersją rozprawy doktorskiej Jacquesa Rancière’a. Kwestia emancypacji robotników w okresie następującym po porażce rewolucyjnego zrywu w lipcu 1830 roku stanowi centralny problem tekstu. Autor nie komentuje jednak toczonych ówcześnie walk o władzę. Emancypacja ujęta zostaje tu od strony wysiłków podejmowanych na polu estetyki. Estetyczna identyfikacja, ludowe widowiska, oddolna prasa, dobór lektur czy nawet wystrój mieszkania przedstawiane tu są jako pełnoprawne narzędzia emancypacyjnych starań. Rancière pokazuje, że robotnicza kultura, jakkolwiek synkretyczna i pełna zapożyczeń, okazywała się wystarczająco subwersywna, by skutecznie przekraczać klasowe podziały.
The text presented here is a chapter from Jacques Rancièreʼs La nuit des proletaires, an extended version of the author’s doctoral thesis. It focuses upon prospects for workers emancipation following the unsuccessful revolutionary attempt of July 1830. Rancière does not comment on struggles of power and instead, emancipation is seen here mostly as an intervention into the aesthetic. Aesthetic identification, popular spectacles, grassroots press, the selection of readings and even the design of rooms are all presented as genuine tools of the emancipatory effort. Rancière shows that workers culture, although syncretic and full of calque, turned out to be subversive enough so as to undermine class divisions.

Opis:
In this paper an area-efficient hardware implementation of a Bincombgen algorithm was presented. This algorithm generates all (n,k) combinations in the form of binary vectors. The generator was implemented using Verilog language and synthesized using Xilinx and Intel-Altera software. Some changes were applied to the original code, which allows our FPGA implementation to be more efficient than in the previously published papers. The usage of chip resources and maximum clock frequency for different values of n and k parameters are presented.
