Monotonicity of functions were of great interest of many mathematicians. Starting from the well known theorem of monotonicity of a differentiable function one can get quite sophisticated results. We give a survey of results when thesis of them is continuous and monotone function. Someone can ask why it should be continuous. Even a differentiable functions but not at the only point of its domain with positive derivative need not be non-decreasing. That is why we want to look for theorems for continuous functions.

In the presented paper we study some properties of preponderantly continuous functions and functions satisfying the property A1. For any family F of real-valued functions we define MAXF = {g: max{f,g} ∈ F for all f ∈ F} and MINF = {g: min{f,g} ∈ F for all f ∈ F}. The aim of the paper is to find MINF for two discussed classes of functions.

Let \(A\) be the class of analytic functions in the unit disc \(U\) of the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\) with the normalization \(f(0)=f^{^{\prime }}(0)-1=0\). We introduce a subclass \(S_{M}^{\ast }(\alpha ,b)\) of \(A\), which unifies the classes of bounded starlike and convex functions of complex order. Making use of Salagean operator, a more general class \(S_{M}^{\ast }(n,\alpha ,b)\) (\(n\geq 0\)) related to \(S_{M}^{\ast }(\alpha ,b)\) is also considered under the same conditions. Among other things, we find convolution conditions for a function \(f\in A\) to belong to the class \(S_{M}^{\ast }(\alpha ,b)\). Several properties of the class \(S_{M}^{\ast }(n,\alpha ,b)\) are investigated.

For functions of the form \[f(z) = z^{p} + \sum_{n = 1}^{\infty} a_{p + n} z^{p + n}\] we obtain sharp bounds for some coefficients functionals in certain subclasses of starlike functions. Certain applications of our main results are also given. In particular, Fekete-Szego-like inequality for classes of functions defined through extended fractional differintegrals are obtained.

We investigate some problems of the following type: For which sets H is it true that if f is in a given class ℱ of periodic functions and the difference functions $Δ_h f(x)=f(x+h)-f(x)$ are in a given smaller class G for every h ∈ H then f itself must be in G? Denoting the class of counter-example sets by ℌ(ℱ,G), that is, $ℌ(ℱ,G) = {H ⊂ ℝ/ℤ : (∃f ∈ ℱ \ G) (∀ h ∈ H) Δ_h f ∈ G}$, we try to characterize ℌ(ℱ,G) for some interesting classes of functions ℱ ⊃ G. We study classes of measurable functions on the circle group $\mathbb{T}=ℝ/ℤ$ that are invariant for changes on null-sets (e.g. measurable functions, $L_p$, $L_∞$, essentially continuous functions, functions with absolute convergent Fourier series (ACF*), essentially Lipschitz functions) and classes of continuous functions on $\mathbb{T}$ (e.g. continuous functions, continuous functions with absolute convergent Fourier series, Lipschitz functions). The classes ℌ(ℱ,G) are often related to some classes of thin sets in harmonic analysis (e.g. $ℌ(L_1,{ACF}*)$ is the class of N-sets). Some results concerning the difference property and the weak difference property of these classes of functions are also obtained.

We consider the class (k;w), k ∈ [0,2], w ∈ ℂ, of plane domains Ω called k-starlike with respect to the point w. An analytic characterization of regular and univalent functions f such that f(U) is in (k;w), where w ∈ f(U), is presented. In particular, for k = 0 we obtain the well known analytic condition for a function f to be starlike w.r.t. w, i.e. to be regular and univalent in U and have f(U) starlike w.r.t. w ∈ f(U).

The purpose of the article is to identify the specialized (exogenous) functions of Polish capital – Warsaw – and to analyze this town functional structure in the period 2004- -2014. The discussed period is characterized by the development of country economy, which coincided with the Polish accession to the European Union structures. The conducted research covered the size, structure and changes of employment. The research was conducted at the background of economic base theory with regard to a city using two measures – surplus employee index (SEI) and Florence’s index of specialization (FIS). The research can turn out useful in urban development planning and in city management.

The order of convexity for the operators \(F_{\alpha_1,\alpha_2,...,\alpha_n,\beta}(z)\) and \(G_{\alpha_1,\alpha_2,...,\alpha_n,\beta}(z)\) is also determined. Furthermore, and for \(\beta= 1\), we obtain sufficient conditions for the operators \(F_n(z)\) and \(G_n(z)\) to be in the class \(\mathcal{K}(a, b)\). Several corollaries and consequences of the main results are also considered.

Since the beginning of the XX century many authors considered characterizations of local properties for real functions of a real variable which have been defined as global properties. We present a short survey of local properties of the well known global ones and consider of how small/big the set of asymmetrical behaviour of a function must be.

Let \(X\) be a Banach space. Let \(f(\cdot)\) be a real valued function defined on an open convex set \(\Omega \subset X^*\), where \(X^*\) as usual denote the conjugate space. We say that the function \(f(\cdot)\) is \(X$\)convex, if there is a set \(\Phi_f \subset X\) such that $$ f(x^*)= sup_{x \in \Phi_f, r \in \R} x^*(x)+r. \eqno{(1)}$$ In the paper it will be shown that if \(X\) is separable, then the function \(f(\cdot)\) is Frechet differentiable on a dense \(G_{\delta}\) set.

We consider analogies between the "cut-and-project" method of constructing quasicrystals and the theory of almost periodic functions. In particular an analytic method of constructing almost periodic functions by means of convolution is presented. In this paper we describe a family of highly parameterized hash functions. This parameterization results in great flexibility between performance and security of the algorithm. The three basic functions, HaF-256, HaF-512 and HaF-1024 constitute this hash function family. Lengths of message digests are 256, 512 and 1024 bits respectively. The paper discusses the details of functions structure. The method used to generate function S-box is also described in detail.

A well known result of Beurling asserts that if f is a function which is analytic in the unit disc $Δ ={z ∈ ℂ : |z|<1} $ and if either f is univalent or f has a finite Dirichlet integral then the set of points $e^{iθ}$ for which the radial variation $V(f,e^{iθ})=∫_{0}^{1}|f'(re^{iθ})|dr$ is infinite is a set of logarithmic capacity zero. In this paper we prove that this result is sharp in a very strong sense. Also, we prove that if f is as above then the set of points $e^{iθ}$ such that $(1 - r)|f'(re^{iθ})| ≠ o(1)$ as r → 1 is a set of logarithmic capacity zero. In particular, our results give an answer to a question raised by T. H. MacGregor in 1983.

Elections are a procedure typical for democratic systems, but also systems which do not respect the principles of democracy often employ them. However, due to their different functional positioning, they fulfill various functions. The presented text is an attempt to present the most important functions performed by the elections in democratic systems. The adopted model of generalization has allowed for separation of seven basic functions, present in all elections: delegation of political representation; selection of the political elite; legitimisation of those in power; control over authorities; political accountability; creation of political programmes; recreation of public opinion image. The presented typology allows for its use both in different types of elections (parliamentary, presidential, local, regional and European Parliament) as well as in relation to different electoral systems. The general nature of the described types of functions allows the separation of specific categories within its framework, but the objective of the present study has determined that the focus remains on the description and analysis of the presented types.

Recently, A. W. Goodman introduced the class UCV of normalized uniformly convex functions. We present some sharp coefficient bounds for functions f(z) = z + a₂z² + a₃z³ + ... ∈ UCV and their inverses $f^{-1}(w) = w + d₂w² + d₃w³ + ...$. The series expansion for $f^{-1}(w)$ converges when $|w| < ϱ_f$, where $0 < ϱ_f$ depends on f. The sharp bounds on $|a_n|$ and all extremal functions were known for n = 2 and 3; the extremal functions consist of a certain function k ∈ UCV and its rotations. We obtain the sharp bounds on $|a_n|$ and all extremal functions for n = 4, 5, and 6. The same function k and its rotations remain the only extremals. It is known that k and its rotations cannot provide the sharp bound on $|a_n|$ for n sufficiently large. We also find the sharp estimate on the functional |μa²₂ - a₃| for -∞ < μ < ∞. We give sharp bounds on $|d_n|$ for n = 2, 3 and 4. For $n = 2, k^{-1}$ and its rotations are the only extremals. There are different extremal functions for both n = 3 and n = 4. Finally, we show that k and its rotations provide the sharp upper bound on |f''(z)| over the class UCV.

It is shown to be consistent that every function of first Baire class can be decomposed into $ℵ_1$ continuous functions yet the least cardinal of a dominating family in $^ωω$ is $ℵ_2$. The model used in the one obtained by adding $ω_2$ Miller reals to a model of the Continuum Hypothesis.

We consider the Nemytskii operator, i.e., the operator of substitution, defined by (Nφ)(x) := G(x,φ(x)), where G is a given multifunction. It is shown that if N maps a Hölder space Hα into Hβ and N fulfils the Lipschitz condition then G(x,y) = A(x,y) + B(x), where A(x,·) is linear and A(·,y), B ∈ Hβ. Moreover, some conditions are given under which the Nemytskii operator generated by (1) maps Hα into Hβ and is Lipschitzian.

It is known that univalence property of regular functions is better understood in terms of some restrictions of logarithmic type. Such restrictions are connected with natural stratifications of the studied classes of univalent functions. The stratification of the basic class S of functions regular and univalent in the unit disk by the Grunsky operator norm as well as the more general one of the class * of pairs of univalent functions without common values by the τ-norm (this concept is introduced here) are given in the paper. Moreover, some properties of univalent functions whose range has finite logarithmic area are considered. To apply the logarithmic restrictions a special exponentiation technique is used.

For α ≥ 0 let $ℱ_α$ denote the class of functions defined for |z| < 1 by integrating $1/(1-xz)^α$ if α > 0, and log(1/(1-xz)) if α = 0, against a complex measure on |x| = 1. We study families of starlike functions where zf'(z)/f(z) ranges over a parabola with given focus and vertex. We prove a number of properties of these functions, among others that they are bounded and that they belong to $ℱ_0$. In general, it is only known that bounded starlike functions belong to $ℱ_α$ for α > 0.
