Opis:
A new approach for frequency analysis of recorded signals and readout the frequency of harmonics is presented in the paper. The main purpose has been achieved by the cross$correlation function and Hilbert transform. Using the method presented in the paper, there is another possibility to observe and finally to identify single harmonic apart from commonly used Fourier transform. Identification of the harmonic is based on the effect of a straight line of the envelope of the cross$correlation function when reference and signal harmon$ ic have the same frequency. This particular case is the basis for pointing the value of the frequency of harmonic component detected.

Opis:
The error analysis of preconditioned waveform relaxation iterations for differential systems is presented. This analysis extends and refines previous results by Burrage, Jackiewicz, Nørsett and Renaut by incorporating all terms in the expansion of the error of waveform relaxation iterations in the Laplace transform domain. Lower bounds for the size of the window of rapid convergence are also obtained. The theory is illustrated for waveform relaxation methods applied to differential systems resulting from semi-discretization of the heat equation in one and two dimensions. This theory and some heuristic arguments predict that preconditioning is most effective for the first few iterations.

Opis:
The dominant sources of traffic noise, which are linked directly to the vehicle, are dependent on the speed. In terms of speed of 50–120 km/h the dominant source of noise is pneumatic wheels. The aim of the research was chosen to develop a method and experimental determination of the dominant frequency components of noise generated by the car tire. For the purpose of the study and on the basis of the analysis of the source data it was assumed that there is a relationship between the vibration of the tread elements and emitted noise, especially for low and medium frequencies. Thus, the target was set on the basis of the own method of research in the built measuring station. Based on the survey and the obtained results it can be stated that in the spectrum of the noise emitted by the tires the frequency components are dominant. Non-directional tire structure includes more frequency components which at the speed adopted in the studies are located at a greater frequency range than it is for the directional tire. In the case of a tire with a directional tread, acoustic emission energy is more associated with specific frequency components. The developed method provides results independent from the influence of the type of road surface on the acoustic emission while driving.

In the article comparison of time-frequency spectra of EMG signals obtained by the following methods: Fast Fourier Transform, predictive analysis and wavelet analysis is presented. The EMG spectra of biceps and triceps while an adult man was flexing his arm were analysed. The advantages of the predictive analysis were shown as far as averaging of the spectra and determining the main maxima are concerned. The Continuous Wavelet Transform method was applied, which allows for the proper distribution of the scales, aiming at an accurate analysis and localisation of frequency maxima as well as the identification of impulses which are characteristic of such signals (bursts) in the scale of time. The modified Morlet wavelet was suggested as the mother wavelet. The wavelet analysis allows for the examination of the changes in the frequency spectrum in particular stages of the muscle contraction. Predictive analysis may also be very useful while smoothing and averaging the EMG signal spectrum in time.

The methods based on analysis of boftom backscatter data from a single-beam echosounder have achieved special attention in the seabed identification problem. due to their simplicity over ofher more sophisticated acoustic techniques like side scan sonar or multibeam surveys. The majority of these methods analyses the scattering phenomena mostly in time domain (echo envelope). However, the frequency echo components carry concurrent information, which can be also used in boftom characterisation. The paper proposes the time-frequency approach to the boftom characterisation and presents the application of Wigner- Ville Distribution and wavelet transform of boftom backscatter data. The examples of continuous and discrete wavelet transforms of actual echo envelopes received at three boftom types for three different operating frequencies (38, 120 and 420 kHz) are shown. Their characteristic features are compared and parameters for classification schemes are proposed. The results of classification procedure are good with comparison with those of ofher simple acoustic methods.

A channelized instantaneous frequency and a local group delay are used in order to replacement in the same manner as formulated by Kodera et al. [1, 2]. Additionally, new representations: a channelized instantaneous bandwidth and a local group duration are used in order to remove some part of irrelevant energy. A newly obtained energy distribution called essential spectrogram is highly concentrated and signal mono-components are precisely localized in the time-frequency domain.

The Smith-Stark hierarchy, a version of the Animacy Hierarchy, offers a typology of the cross-linguistic availability of number. The hierarchy predicts that the availability of number is not arbitrary. For any language, if the expression of plural is available to a noun, it is available to any noun of a semantic category further to the left of the hierarchy. In this article we move one step further by showing that the structure of the hierarchy can be observed in a statistical model of number use in Russian. We also investigate three co-variates: plural preference, pluralia tantum and irregularity effects; these account for an item’s behaviour being different than that solely expected from its animacy position.

The natural frequency analysis of four analytical models of a home wind turbine is presented in this paper. These models are: the rotor of a generator without housing, the rotor of a generator with housing and a stator, the rotor of a wind turbine, and the entire assembly of the wind turbine. By comparison of the received results of these models, evaluation of the variation in natural frequencies was performed. Additionally, interaction of the natural frequencies of the models with excitations was investigated. Moreover, various forms of vibrations, such as bending and torsional mode of the wind turbine rotor, rotor generator and blades, were found. Simplified analytical calculations for evaluation of the bearing stiffness applied to the vibration models were also carried out. The natural frequency analysis was performed in the analytical environment of the Siemens NX software based on NX Advanced module by the use of NASTRAN solver.

Biomedical signals are specific type of signals due to their structure and specific approach to their analysis. They are usually non-stationary signals. Basic methods of analysis include time and frequency analyses performed separately. Frequency structure of biomedical signals varies in time so, patient diagnose could be better when time-frequency analysis concept will be applied. The paper presents some results of time-frequency analysis of ECG signal.

Opis:
To ensure that any time series data is appropriately interpreted, it should be analyzed with proper signal processing tools. The most common analysis methods are kernel-based transforms, which use base functions and their modifications to represent time series data. This work discusses an analysis of audio data and two of those transforms - the Fourier transform and the wavelet transform based on a priori assumptions about the signal's linearity and stationarity. In audio engineering, these assumptions are invalid because the statistical parameters of most audio signals change with time and cannot be treated as an output of the LTI system. That is why recent approaches involve decomposition of a signal into different modes in a data-dependent and adaptive way, which may provide advantages over kernel-based transforms. Examples of such methods include empirical mode decomposition (EMD), ensemble EMD (EEMD), variational mode decomposition (VMD), or singular spectrum analysis (SSA). Simulations were performed with speech signal for kernel-based and data-dependent decomposition methods, which revealed that evaluated decomposition methods are promising approaches to analyzing non-stationary audio data.

Opis:
Time-frequency analysis is important to identify the localized information of a non-stationary signal in the time and frequency domains simultaneously. There are few different time-frequency analysis methods available with their own specialty and suitability. In quantum mechanics Husimi function of any quantum mechanical state arises naturally whenever the simultaneous measurement of both coordinate and momentum is performed on this state with maximal accuracy allowed by the Heisenberg uncertainty relations. The Husimi function is a probability distribution for the statistics of simultaneous unsharp measurement of both coordinate and momentum. In general, like the Wigner function, the Husimi function can be defined in the space of any pair of conjugate variables. In particular, in the studies of signal processing, this space is the time-frequency space. In the present work we consider the Husimi function in this space, and apply it to analyse the multicomponent signals. The time-frequency representations of the simulated signals by using the Husimi distribution clearly show the frequency features along the time axis. The results are encouraging and indicate that, like in corresponding analogous problems in quantum mechanics, the Husimi distribution approach in the time-frequency analysis for non-stationary optical signals may provide some insights which are not so easily obtained in other, more spread approaches.

This approach allows to obtain the analytical frequency equations as power series rapidly convergent to exact eigenvalues for different number of nodal diameters. The first ten dimensionless frequencies for eight different natural modes of circular plates are calculated. A part of obtained results have not been presented yet in open literature for thin circular plates. The paper presents some observations of ultrasound induced cavitation phenomenon in a mineral insulating oil. The acoustic cavitation phenomenon was generated at different signal frequencies and rms voltage value supplied to round piezoelectric transducers. Used transducers have created a high energy acoustic field in prepared insulating oil samples. The acoustic emission signal contains a broad-band noise and a fundamental frequency component and its harmonics, produced by the direct driving acoustic field. The paper presents the spectral analysis of acoustic emission signal observed during acoustic cavitation in insulating oils. To emphasize the changes in acoustic cavitation intensity also time-frequency analysis was used and some spectrograms were evaluated. The measurement uncertainty of some frequency-rms voltage pairs was very unfavorable. The main application expected with created cavitation measurement system is to develop a diagnostic tool for the aging of oil, based on the hypothesis that the measured cavitation intensity and spectrum could be affected by aging. Previous published measurements showed some relationship between insulating oil aging process and changes of acoustic emission of cavitations.

Free vibration analysis of homogeneous and isotropic circular thin plates with variable distribution of parameters by using Green’s functions (solution to homogeneous ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients) is considered. The formula of Green’s function (called the influence function) depends on the Poisson ratio and the coefficient of distribution of plate flexural rigidity, and the thickness is obtained in a closed-form. The limited independent solutions to differential Euler equations are expanded in the Neumann power series using the Volterra integral equations of the second kind. This approach allows one to obtain the analytical frequency equations as the power series rapidly convergens to exact eigenvalues for different values of the power index and different values of the Poisson ratio. The six lower natural dimensionless frequencies of axisymmetric vibration of circular plates of constant and variable thickness are calculated for different boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with selected results presented in the literature.

It characterizes the power object under study, the measuring system used and the developed methodology of assessment of the core pressing degree using the vibroacoustic method. The original results of the time-frequency analysis of the vibroacoustic signals presented in the paper were obtained during switching on a real 800 kVA dry type power transformer in laboratory conditions. The analysis of the signals registered was carried out for three states of its operation: the core pressed by the manufacturer, the core with loose screws fixing the upper yoke and the core with separated upper yoke beams.

Opis:
This work deals with an interaction of a magnetic fluid of a dielectric nature with a magnetic field by means of ultrasound waves measurements and analysis. Ultrasound analysis is known as a non-destructive inspection tool often used in technical diagnostics, moreover, it has numerous applications in medicine and biology, too. We report the low-frequency ultrasound analysis of a dielectric magnetic fluid in a low-intensity external static magnetic field. The studied magnetic fluid was composed of a transformer oil and dispersed magnetite nanoparticles coated with oleic acid. Experiments were carried out by using an ultrasonic testing cell. The cell was exposed to a magnetic field of 50 mT in both parallel and perpendicular direction to the waves propagation. A through-transmission mode measurement was applied, where two fixed narrow-band transducers with completely shielded crystal for maximum RFI/EMI immunity (Physical Acoustic R15I-AST, the resonant frequency 150 kHz) served as a transmitter and a receiver. In this way we carried out the measurement of the frequency-dependent ultrasonic response to a rectangle calibrating signal of 5 μs pulse width. Digitized signals were recorded for further analysis. We present the frequency domain analysis of the low-frequency ultrasound in magnetic fluid. The frequency spectrum in magnetic fluid colloidal system was calculated by the Fourier transformation method. Results show that there is a frequency shift in the amplitude-frequency spectrum caused by the step-up magnetic field. The higher the magnetic field, the higher the frequency of the peaks. The effect of particle aggregation in magnetic field on the ultrasound wave propagation is discussed in the paper.

Opis:
Kunhar River hydrology and hydraulic design of a bridge on this river are being studied using HEC-Geo-RAS and Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System (HEC-RAS). The river flows in the northern part of Pakistan and is 170 km long. On both sides of the river, there are residential settlements. The river hydraulics is studied by using 30-metre remotely sensed shuttle radar topographic mission - digital elevation model (SRTM DEM) and Arc Map. 32 cross-sections are imported from Geographic Information System (GIS) to HEC-RAS. On historical peak flow results, the extreme value frequency distribution is applied, and a flood is determined for a 100-year return period, with a discharge estimated as 2223 cubic metres. Three steady flow profiles are adopted for HEC-RAS, the first is for the maximum historical peak data, the second is for the 100-year return period, and the third profile is for the latter 100-year period with a safety factor of 1.28. With remote sensing-based assessments, the proposed location for a bridge is determined and then verified with a field survey which was physically conducted. The maximum water height estimated in the river is about 4.26 m. This bridge will facilitate about 50 thousand population of Masahan and its surroundings. It will create a shortest link between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir and thus will enhance tourism and trade activities.

Opis:
The conducted research suggests possibility of replacing extruded polystyrene with a renewable cork-based material in laminated composite structures. Different fractions of the cork-based material of a composite laminate have been applied. The composites have been tested employing a hammer-focused vibration method. Conforming to obtained results, the cork-based material of smaller fraction has damping properties similar to those of the extruded polystyrene composite. Integrating cork into the structure of the composite has the opportunity to develop a more eco-friendlier and sustainable product and to improve the adaptive properties of passive control systems used for vibration damping applications operating in the middle and high frequency zones.
