A good starting point for the foreign language teacher, bearing in mind the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), based on “learning” and “student focused”, would be to think of the possibility of redesigning his teaching/learning environment so as to include, besides face-to-face sessions, the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). This pilot study assesses the attitude of 22 tertiary students towards the integration of ICT, namely WebQuests, in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom.

The aim of the existing case study was to investigate the implications of applyingcomputers to teaching interpreting to students who were not foreign language majors. Someresearchers argued that interpreting courses are very difficult, so they should be offered to qualifiedpost-graduate students instead of undergraduate students. However, most undergraduate programsin Taiwan offer interpretation courses. In addition, in China two-semester interpreter trainingcourses have even been offered to most undergraduate students who were not foreign languagemajors. Furthermore, computers have been widely used in interpreter training, but no research hasbeen available that investigated how to apply computer assisted interpreter training (CAIT) toteaching interpreting to students who are not foreign language majors. Qualitative research methodshave been used to collect and analyze the data to complete the report in this study. Participantsconsisted of the author and the 18 students, who were not foreign language majors, taking acomputer assisted interpreter training course that the author offered in a university in Taipei,Taiwan, in 2009. The results of the study indicated that CAIT may be developed into IM (theinterpretation method) of foreign language teaching to teach students who are not foreign languagemajors.
Celem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie wpływu szkolenia wspomaganiego komputerowo na kandydatów na tłumaczy ustnych nie będących absolwentami studiów filologicznych.

Opis:
Speaking foreign language does not imply only mastering its lexical and morphosyntactic code, but, more importantly, learning to conceptualize differently the world around us. One of major sources of deviations in L2 is due to a very poor mastery of conventional structures (formulaic competence), an incorrect linguistic profiling and the confusion between the synthetic and analytical character of the L1 and the L2 (here Polish and French). Beginners in Romance philology often fall into a trap when trying to verbalize in a written form their communicative intentions. We propose here to analyze their sociolinguistic and sociocultural mistakes in order to imagine a course of remedial teaching.

The aim of this article is to describe students’ individual patterns of thinking, evaluate their usefulness and possibility to utilize them in teaching and learning foreign languages with an emphasis on Italian. At the outset it should be considered that practical units included in the curricula of philological departments at most higher education institutions in Poland are designed in such a way so as to enable students to develop their receptive and productive skills. Such division of classes matches students’ needs perceived globally but it fails to cater for their individual requirements. The theory of individual patterns of thinking is an attempt to define and answer individual needs of students. As such it is also the starting point in the endeavor to design individual teaching models. The article shows how to utilize individual patterns of thinking and how to elaborate individual teaching models during classes in practical knowledge of Italian.

Opis:
Teaching foreign languages to the deaf formally started in Poland in 2001 so it still can be treated as a relatively new educational phenomenon that needs to be thoroughly researched. So far there have been only several works in the literature that would present the approaches, methods and techniques that the teachers might use. However, there is not a single study that would touch upon the problem of the effectiveness of the teaching programs. The aim of the paper is to explore the linguistic competencies of the deaf students of Polish primary, low secondary (gymnasium) and secondary schools as far as their reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar competencies and communicative skills are concerned. On the basis of these analyses and contemporary knowledge about the principles of teaching foreign languages to the deaf (cf. Domagała-Zysk 2001, 2003, 2010 and others) a document is presented, Linguistic competences of the hearing-impaired students in the foreign language classroom, that might serve as a significant contribution to our knowledge about the effectiveness of foreign language education for deaf students.

In this paper we consider a system of work with a literary text, based on the effective methods of teaching speaking skills to foreign students. Taking into account the importance of literature in the training process of the foreign students-philologists at advanced level as well as its role in the individual development and improvement of communicative skills, we should use not only textbooks, but also adapted additional texts (with a block of tasks and exercises on communication), that belong to different styles of speech, typical for the literary works, and give an opportunity to solve not only the purely linguistic problems of teaching the Russian language on the curriculum, but also affect the intellect, stimulate creative thinking, influence feelings, arouse emotions, improve memory and thus facilitate language learning.

The article presents the problem of the stimulation of the second language learning by students with particular difficulties in reading and writing (developmental dyslexia). Since dyslexic students show multiple disorders in learning not only foreign languages but also their mother tongue, it is essential to provide them with special support during their foreign language classes. The problems discussed in the article concerns the characteristic of the disorders, their influence on the second language learning and the emerging difficulties. The key element of the discussion is the analysis of the opportunities to support dyslectic students during foreign language classes by implementing the principles of inner differentiation and individualization, which take into account the student’s particular needs and individual features.

Foreign language learners are commonly taught explicit rules of grammar, but often fail to apply them when confronted with communicative tasks. The article provides analyses on linguistic errors encountered by teachers during language teaching processes effected in homogeneous, all-Czech groups participating in language courses. Additionally, the article discusses the problem of comprehending the glottodidactical (language education) process within the context of a particular communicative situation (cognitive approach). The main focus of the study relates to competitive planes that are subject to the occurence of linguistic interference. A particular attention is given to pronunciation, grammar (inflection and syntax), and to lexis. For primarily Czech-speaking users of the Polish language, the biggest difficulty as far as the pronunciation is concerned, is the pronunciation of alveolo-palatal consonants and palatal hard consonants that are not appropriately differntiated in their realisation (this refers in particular to [ś] and [š], but also to [č] and [ć] ). A similar problem occurs in vowels – a hard vowel [y] is frquently replaced by a soft vowel [i]. A considerable number of occurences of the dental-alveolar [l] in place of the expected [] is identified and discussed.Within the domain of inflection, the article addresses the problem of the apparent equivalence at the level of the plural nominative and singular genetive of masculine nouns (the occurence of regular interference has been demonstrated), whereas a syntactical analysis has made it possible to indicate modifications at the linear level of utterances that are mainly related to an erroneous location of the Polish reflexive pronoun “się”.With regard to lexis, the division of difficulties to be found within the glottodidactical process is raised (semantic, stylistical and onimic difficulties). Additionally, the article discusses the danger of the abuse of colloquial vocabulary in communiques created in informal situations.Key words: teaching of Polish as
