The paper is an attempt to analyse the Viśākhaṣaṣṭi – the collection of sixty stanzas praising Lord Murukan of Paḻani temple composed by Nārāyaṇa Guru – the mystic, philosopher and social reformer from Kerala. Several stanzas of this mysterious hymn (22, 37, 39, 52, 55) have been selected as representative of Guru’s style of writing characteristic of compositions devoted to Subrahmaṇyan. Nārāyaṇan introduces to his works the twilight language of Siddhas supported with a variety of figures of speech borrowed from Sanskrit kāvya literature. An elaborate and highly sophisticated mixture of these two literary and philosophical traditions became the means by which Guru releases the liberating power of each independent literary construction.

My paper examines the figures of speech in English translations of Ady’s poem. The main organizers in Ady’s texts are repetition, parallelism, antithesis and other figures. The connection between these figures is an important component of his style. I examine whe-ther the translations are showing these figures, and if so, what their function is. The paper mostly concentrates on repetition in the translations. An analysis of one poem by Ady is presented through the translated texts.

The article presents linguistic phenomena from the initial stage of the poet’s work when the modernist writing model prevailed. Leopold Staff wrote a reflexive and descriptive triptych in which, by resorting to a juxtaposition to the Young Poland movement poetry, he created paradise landscapes of a deserted island surrounded by sea water, drowned in light and colour. In order to recreate the protagonist’s dreams he resorted to poetic imagery at various levels of text organization. The linguistic phenomena in the realm of syntactic forms refer to the functions of exclamations, hypotaxis and parataxis, the role of arrangements of conjugation rows, the rhythm of verses combined in a hendecasyllable with ABBA rhymes. The following figures of speech were used: antithesis, rhetoric questions, inversions, apostrophes etc. As for semantic transformations, an important role was played by sensual and mental metaphors, semantic poetism, personification and comparisons. The lexical phenomena were related to applying the style-related function of vocabulary that is chronologically diverse (artistic neologisms, neo-semantisms, old-fashioned words); geographically diverse (dialects) and word-formation diverse (derivatives of adpositional phrases in order to condense the text to hendecasyllable verses).

One of the markers of Bruno Schulz’s style is the simile. It plays two roles in the poetic prose of the author: on the one hand, it confronts two phenomena in a concise and conventional manner; on the other, it compares, quite unexpectedly, two events, living creatures or objects, which seem to have nothing in common. In this article I analyze excerpts of three Spanish translations in order to identify techniques used to render this trope, to verify the consequences of the omission of the linking words, and to investigate whether Spanish readers will be able to recreate the same or a similar image to the one evoked in the original.

This paper concerns the role of repetitions in Paul Ricoeur’s text entitled Universal Civilization and National Cultures (1961). The analysis aims to prove that the repetitions are a characteristic element of the philosopher’s style. In the analysis the author focuses on the repetitions in the connected and disconnected word order and on repetitions as figures of speech. Ricoeur repeats in his text words, expressions and grammatical constructions. A distinctive element of Ricoeur’s style is also the text structure, e.g., the text division into three parts, the so-called triad system.

The author focuses on rhetorical topos presented as structural and semantic model of publicistic speech and as a common element on the basis of which new utterances are created. Publicistic writings of Yanka Sipakou and Vladimir Karatkevich serve as an example. The author of the article claims that harmonic combinations of complete topos enable a writer to show his thoughts and feelings in a more vivid and persuasive way.

Galerie infernale est, à bien des égards, une œuvre subversive par rapport aux normes langagières et éthiques. Cette transgression se perçoit à divers niveaux du langage : lexique, combinaison syntaxique et syntagmatique, logique du sens et de la pensée. Ce langage de rupture est mis au service d’une pensée elle-même en rupture avec les valeurs éthiques communément admises en société. Tout se passe comme si le poète décidait de franchir les limites de l’humainement acceptable et de scruter les territoires de l’extrême langagier et éthique, comme pour révéler la finitude et l’échec du langage, avec sa morale tout aussi désuète, le but du jeu étant de proposer d’autres possibles à une société en dérive en dépit de ses normes.
Galerie infernale, in many ways, is a subversion against the language and ethical standards. This transgression is perceived at different levels of language: lexicon, syntax and left, logic combination of sense and thought. This language of rupture is put at the service of thought itself at odds with ethical values commonly accepted in society. Everything happens so as if the poet decided to cross the humanly acceptable limits and to peer into the territories of the extreme language and ethics, as to reveal the finitude and the failure of language, with its all too outdated moral. The aim of the game is to offer other possibilities to a society adrift despite its standards.

Miklaszewski comentó humorísticamente que al leer a Schulz se puede llegar a la conclusión de que dicho autor escribió tan solo dos o tres oraciones, trazando así un par de situaciones que luego modificó y repitió en sus relatos. Con la finalidad de comprobar si el mismo efecto estilístico se conserva en las traducciones espanolas, analizaré los fragmentos que incluyen las figuras retóricas de repetición (políptoton, ploce, anástrofe y figura etimológica), así como las llamadas “rimas situacionales”, es decir, el uso de expresiones similares para describir tanto las mismas como diferentes situaciones.
Miklaszewski stated humorously that while reading Schulz you may come to the conclusion that the author wrote two o three sentences drafting a few situations which he then modified and repeated in his shirt stories. In order to verify if the same stylistic effect is present in the Spanish translations I will analyse the excerpts which contain figures of speech such as polyptoton, ploce, anastrophe and figura etimologica, as well as the so-called “situational rhymes”, i.e. the use of similar phrasing to describe the same or different situations.

Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie związku wyrazowego „upojenie administracyjne”, zastosowanego po raz pierwszy przez Dostojewskiego w powieści Biesy do określenia samowoli urzędników i później utrwalonego w języku. Po rozpatrzeniu przykładów użycia danej jednostki i jej odpowiedników w rosyjskich, ukraińskich i polskich tekstach medialnych autorka zauważa zmianę jej semantyki i rozszerzenie kontekstów użycia. Przeprowadzona analiza pozwala stwierdzić uniwersalność sformułowanego przez pisarza określenia o charakterze wartościującym i żywotność omawianej jednostki frazeologicznej.
The given paper is dedicated to the analysis of the word combination “administrative delight”, which was firstly used by F. Dostoevsky in his novel Demons to describe the bureaucratic arbitrariness, and later on became a figure of speech. By considering the examples of the usage of the mentioned stylistic device in Russian, Ukrainian and Polish mass media, the context extension and the change of semantics were pointed out by the author of the paper. The undertaken research leads to the conclusion about the universality and the convincing factor of the viability of the figure of speech created by F. Dostoevsky.
Статья посвящена анализу словосочетания «административный восторг», впервые употреблённого Ф.М. Достоевским в романе «Бесы» для обозначения чиновничьего произвола и ставшего крылатым. Рассмотрев примеры использования данной единицы и её эквивалентов в текстах российских, украинских и польских СМИ, автор отмечает изменение её семантики и расширение контекстов употребления. Проделанный анализ позволяет сделать вывод об универсальности созданного классиком образа и о жизнеспособности передающей его фразеологической единицы с яркой оценочностью.

Słowa mają zazwyczaj kilka różnych, powiązanych ze sobą znaczeń. Langacker zwracał uwagę na wynikającą z tych właściwości niejednoznaczność w charakterystyce podstaw gramatyki kognitywnej. Znaczenia słów są ze sobą powiązane w sposób systematyczny dzięki kilku procesom poznawczym, które pozwalają dostrzec wewnętrzną strukturę relacji semantycznych. Poezja Haliny Poświatowskiej jest niewątpliwie znakomitym materiałem ukazującym te zależności, znaki symboliczne, figury retoryczne czy konwersje semantyczne. Jej bogata twórczość jest niezwykle polisensoryczna i różnorodna pod względem metaforycznych wizualizacji. Nie ulega wątpliwości, że w językowym uniwersum poetki leksemy obrazują działanie wszystkich zmysłów, zarówno na poziomie emocjonalnym, jak i na poziomie przeżyć psychicznych czy czysto fizycznych, dzięki którym czytelnik może dojrzeć interpretacje wybranych fragmentów wierszy.
Words have usually several different, interrelated meanings., Langacker paid attention to the ambiguity resulting from these properties in characterizing of the foundations of cognitive grammar. Meanings of words are tied mutually in a systematic way thanks to several cognitive processes which allow to see the internal structure of semantic relations. Halina Poświatowska’s poetry is undoubtedly a superb material showing these dependences, symbolic signs, figures of speech or semantic conversions. Her rich creation is unusually poly-sensory and various in respect of metaphorical visualizations. There is no doubt that in the lingual universe of the poet, lexemes picture the activity of all senses, both on emotional level, as well as mental or purely physical experiences level, which enable the readers to see interpretations of the chosen fragments of poems.
