Opis:
The paper deals with the measurement preparation for the exhaust gases measurement. The measurement is carried out within the project of basic research. The aim of the project is the research of the influence of an unconventional charging intercooling on the selected ecological and economical parameters of a turbocharged compression ignition internal combustion engine in the specific operational conditions. The paper gives the information about the types, numbers, specification and position of the sensors used. The measuring scheme with the connection of sensors and connector blocks is also shown. The details about the single parts of the measuring chain are given. The paper also shows the view on the sensors through the photographs. Some results from a testing measurement are also shown and the results from the selected sensors can be compared. The two different intercoolers are used for charging air cooling. The first intercooler is the air/air type equipped with a ventilator, the second intercooler is the water/air type without a ventilator. The total displacement of an engine is 7.61. The measurement itself is aimed mainly to acquire information regarding the influence of the low temperatures of charging on the amount of NOx. Also the influence on the amount of particulate matter is examined through the mentioned measurement.

Opis:
The exhaust gases from marine diesel engines contain high SO2 and NOx concentration. The applicability of the electron beam flue gas treatment technology for purification of marine diesel exhaust gases containing high SO2 and NOx concentration gases was the main goal of this paper. The study was performed in the laboratory plant with NOx concentration up to 1700 ppmv and SO2 concentration up to 1000 ppmv. Such high NOx and SO2 concentrations were observed in the exhaust gases from marine high-power diesel engines fuelled with different heavy fuel oils. In the first part of study the simulated exhaust gases were irradiated by the electron beam from accelerator. The simultaneous removal of SO2 and NOx were obtained and their removal efficiencies strongly depend on irradiation dose and inlet NOx concentration. For NOx concentrations above 800 ppmv low removal efficiencies were obtained even if applied high doses. In the second part of study the irradiated gases were directed to the seawater scrubber for further purification. The scrubbing process enhances removal efficiencies of both pollutants. The SO2 removal efficiencies above 98.5% were obtained with irradiation dose greater than 5.3 kGy. For inlet NOx concentrations of 1700 ppmv the NOx removal efficiency about 51% was obtained with dose greater than 8.8 kGy. Methods for further increase of NOx removal efficiency are presented in the paper.

Opis:
Regulations concerning the limitation of harmful compounds emission contained in exhaust gases become more restrictive. This is observed within regulations regarding land-based installations and also rules applied to ships of global trade fleet. Other restrictions of vessels emissions, enclosed in rules set out in Annex IV of Marpol Convention 73/78 are gradually implemented and establish emission limits for ship engines. The boiler delivers the heat energy required for fuel preparation for main and auxiliary engines - and also by consuming fuel in its combustion chamber becomes and emitter. This article describes the anticipated methodology of the boiler steam efficiency, depending on the main engine installed. Additionally, fuel oil consumption analysis in various steam capacity range performed using the histograms. The histograms were produced on the basis of service reports of similar units, and combining fuel oil consumption with exhaust emission during operation. A vessel engine report includes monthly machinery abstract and is compiled for a ship-owner on the basis of the log book records. Quantified exhaust emission from auxiliary oil fired boiler contributes determination the overall emissions from a ship.

Opis:
The article describes the problem of measuring the temperature in a pulse combustion chamber. The object of the study is a valveless pulsejet. The problem is analysed on the example of exhaust gases temperature measurement. The measurement in these conditions requires the use of a sensor resistant to large changes in gas velocity and temperature and at the same time with adequatly low inertia. This excludes the use of fast and precise yet thin, resistant wire sensors or ultrafast thin film thermocouples. Finally, a temperature measurement system based on sheated thermocouples was chosen. During each test the thermocouple has its own temperature which is different from the medium temperature. In order to properly determine the measured temperature of flowing media it is necessary to take the sensor time characteristics into account. In this article the iteration method is proposed to solve this problem.

Opis:
Helicopters, in comparison to other aircrafts, have much lower flight speeds and manoeuvrability, which makes them easy targets for actual combat assets like ground to air or air-to-air infrared-guided missiles. Current techniques aim to increase the combat effectiveness and lifetime of military helicopters performing combat missions by reducing the possibility of their detection on battlefield, thereby increasing their flight time without fire attack and reduce effects of potential strike. When designing new helicopter types, especially for combat applications, it is essential to pay enormous attention to infrared emissions of the solid parts composing the helicopter’s structure, as well as to exhaust gases egressing from the engine’s exhaust system. Due to their high temperature, exhaust gases, egressed to the surrounding are a major factor in infrared radiation emission level and, in consequence, detectability of a helicopter performing air combat operations. This article presents the possibility to decrease the infrared radiation level that is emitted to the environment by helicopter in flight, by cooling hot exhaust in special ejective cooler. Article presents also the exhaust cooler operation principles and results of numeric analysis of concept exhaust cooler adapted to cooperate with PA-10W turbine engine. Numeric analysis presented promising results in decreasing the infrared emission level by PA W-3 helicopter in flight, as well as increasing its stealth properties.

Opis:
The aim of the present study was a numerical investigation of the efficiency of the combustion process of a novel concept burner under different operating conditions. The design of the burner was a part of the development process of a complete SOFC based system and a challenging combination of technical requirements to be fulfilled. A Computational Fluid Dynamics model of a non-premixed burner was used to simulate combustion of exhaust gases from the anode region of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell stacks. The species concentrations of the exhaust gases were compared with experimental data and a satisfactory agreement of the conversion of hydrocarbons was obtained. This validates the numerical methodology and also proves applicability of the developed approach that quantitatively characterized the interaction between the exhaust gases and burner geometry for proper combustion modelling. Thus, the proposed CFD approach can be safely used for further numerical optimisation of the burner design.

Opis:
The number of vehicles in the world is growing rapidly. Therefore, the global consumption of crude oil is increasing and its natural resources are being depleted. It causes the rise of oil fuel cost. Constantly rising energy prices and emironmental concerns have made energy saving the highest priority for transportation operators. The main goal of vehicles' operation is economy. The fuel consumption of the most popular internal combustion engines depends on various factors, and one of the most important of them is thermal condition. Energy or fuel saving is the main way to reduce operational expenses of vehicles. This paper aims to investigate fuel consumption of 1.9 liter volume direct injection diesel engine and to construct a diagram of the dependence of the amount of smoke in exhaust on the temperature of engine's operation. The temperature was fixed in the engine's crankcase, while the temperature of cooling liquid was measured at four points as well as during the engine's bench testing. Unexpected test results are obtained: when the temperature of exhaust gases rises above 70-75 °C, the amount of smoke increases by a few times. Finally, basic conclusions and recommendations are given.

Opis:
The fuel injection phenomena belongs to the most essential processes, which are object of many experimental and theoretical works, indispensable for development of contemporary internal-combustion engines, both the spark and compression ignition. The direct injection of fotel to the engine combustion chamber belongs to most advanced solutions and must realize at least two or even more different strategies of engine performance. Article presents the various research methods of the fuel atomization processes, being concentrated on laser methods, from which deserves on the emphasis the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system, the Laser Doppler Velocimeter (LDV) system and Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer (PDPA) system. Article presents theoretical analysis relating the atomized fuel stream. The results of research based on the laser research equipment are also submitted in the article. Moreover presented are the results ofresearch of the combustion process in the fixed volume chamber, where essentially two different strategies of the combustion process of homogenous and heterogeneous load were realized. The properly shaped fuel stream permits on obtainment of repeatable ignition and combustion in the wide range of the mixture variance. The essential meaning has the fuel stream disintegration, which influences advantageously on the level of the toxic exhaust elements emission, particularly on the hydrocarbon emission level because of the ignition dropout elimination and on the level of the nitrogen oxides emission because of short sojourn time of the fuel droplets in the combustion zone.

Opis:
A numerical model for analysis of thermal and mechanical loads of a rocket motor has been developed. This model of a solid propellant motor corresponds to a short range, fast lunch and cruise type missile. It has been elaborated using the Finite Element Method (FEM) incorporated into commercial Comsol/M code. The experimental data on the thrust profile have been utilised to develop proper initial and boundary conditions for forgoing numerical calculations. The studies have been focused on the temperature and stress evolution within the case and nozzle section of the rocket engine. A special attention has been paid to the graphite insert of the rocket motor throat. The performed analyses proved effectiveness of the modelling methodology that will be applied to investigations of the modified motor performance.
