    The capability approach, as developed in the work of Amartya Sen, provides a very useful way to think about social justice and its particular component, gender equality in education. The capability approach is concerned with evaluating social policy, including education, without ignoring individual aspirations or dictating social bench marks. Sen’s work on capabilities developed out of a critical engagement with welfare economics. Therefore the article, firstly, introduces the reader to the capability approach’s template, secondly, employs this template to provide arguments for articulating gender equality and equity in education taking a critical stance towards the welfare economics based approach to evaluating social policy in education, thirdly, it also illustrates capabilities approach’s contribution to debates on social justice.

    W artykule omówiono wkład pięciu różnych podejść w ramach analizy dyskursu w interpretację i zrozumienie tego samego materiału empirycznego. Podejścia wybrane do porównania to analiza konwersacyjna, interakcyjna socjolingwistyka, teoria grzeczności, krytyczna analiza dyskursu i psychologia dyskursywna. Dane empiryczne stanowi dziewięciominutowe nagranie dźwiękowe nieformalnej interakcji w miejscu pracy. W artykule zostaną ze sobą zestawione różne sposoby analizy, zostaną również omówione teoretyczne i metodologiczne implikacje używania poszczególnych podejść.
    This article explores the contributions that five different approaches to discourse analysis can make to interpreting and understanding the same piece of data. Conversation analysis, interactional sociolinguistics, politeness theory, critical discourse analysis, and discursive psychology are the approaches chosen for comparison. The data is a nine-minute audio recording of a spontaneous workplace interaction. The analyses are compared, and the theoretical and methodological implications of the different approaches are discussed.

    Esta investigação tem como objetivo refletir sobre a cobertura fotojornalística de mulheres que, por determinada lógica, podem ser consideradas produtoras de enquadramentos “não oficiais” de uma realidade política e social, quer dizer, de enquadramentos que de alguma maneira rompem com aquilo que seria autorizado pelo Estado vigente, de acordo com o pensamento proposto por Judith Butler. A perspectiva epistemológica dos Estudos de Gênero e o embasamento teórico da História das Mulheres colaboram para o desenvolvimento da reflexão que parte do período histórico da ditadura militar brasileira, iniciada em 1964, e que estabeleceu a censura e o cerceamento de direitos sobre a sociedade civil, mas também recaiu muito fortemente sobre profissionais da imprensa do país. Ao longo da discussão, são apresentados trechos de entrevistas, algumas realizadas e interpretadas a partir da metodologia da História Oral, o que permitiu observar que determinadas experiências fotográficas operam como uma espécie de resistência à imagem que se tentava construir à cerca do país. Acredita-se que tais produções podem consideradas formas de tencionar e desafiar imagens que se tornaram ícone de determinados períodos políticos e que seguem em disputas constantes pelo posto da “verdadeira” história.
    The research its about women’s photojournalistic coverage which reflect by a certain logic that can be considered producers of non-regulatory frameworks of a political and social real- ity. These are frameworks that somehow break with what would be authorized by the ruling state, according to the thinking proposed by Judith Butler (2015). The epistemological perspective of Gender Studies and the theoretical basis of Women's History contribute to for this reflection, which focuses on two historical periods marked by censorship and hostility: the Brazilian military dicta- torship (1964 - 1985), a time when the curtailment of civil society rights was established, falling very heavily on the country's press; and the period comprising the presidential mandate of Jair M. Bolsonaro (2018-2022). It was an episode in recent history that recalls characteristics of the 1970s, such as the encouragement of authority, conservatism and violence. Throughout the discus- sion, excerpts from four interviews are presented, one of which (Beth Cruz) came from a more extensive study using Oral History methodology (Schmitt, 2022), which allowed us to observe that certain photographic experiences operate as a kind of resistance to the image that has been done and continues to be constructed about the country. In addition, we present accounts by Gabriela Biló, Elvira Alegre and Nair Benedicto. All the interviews was collected from academic publications available online: the first two are from university laboratories and the third from a scientific journal. It is believed that the images produced by these women can be seen as a way of challenging images that have become icons of certain political periods and that are still in constant dispute for the position of "true" history.

    While investigations into incels online have increased, most have focused on their potential for violence, their misogyny, extremist ideologies, and their mental health. Very little has been devoted to examining the nuances of that subcultural group. The research in this paper examines the hierarchy that has been established within the incel subculture, online, and how that hierarchy is policed using various mechanisms such as reporting “fakecels” to the moderators to have them banned and insults. Findings show that there are clear hierarchical delineations of incels in general, with “blackpill” incels being the most extreme in their worldview and their use of science (albeit cherry-picked) to justify the incel ideology. The researchers also found that there is a hierarchy specific to the online forum from which data were gathered. The paper concludes that understanding incel subculture is salient in addressing the potential threats of violence and treating those individuals who no longer want to identify as incels. Future directions of research would be to examine why boys and men identify as incels.

    This article discusses the process of theoretical thinking development through school work based on the theoretical and methodological foundations of Cultural-Historical Theory. Through the analysis of a pedagogical activity carried out with a group of preschool children and organized in the light of the proposal of the Teaching-Orienteering Activity, the study sought to highlight the pedagogical mediations that are considered as necessary for placing the theoretical concepts as the central content of the teacher's teaching activity. The research aimed to demonstrate and defend the thesis that theoretical thinking can begin from early childhood education when teaching organizes actions in which theoretical knowledge, expression of the unity between the product and the process of the logical-historical movement of concept elaboration, is placed as a core element of the subjects’ activity.
    W niniejszym artykule omówiono proces rozwoju myślenia teoretycznego poprzez pracę w szkole w odniesieniu do podstaw teoretycznych i metodologicznych teorii kulturowo-historycznej. Analiza działania pedagogicznego przeprowadzonego w oparciu o grupę dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym, zorganizowanego zgodnie z propozycją działań dydaktyczno-orientacyjnych (Teaching-Orienteering Activity), miała na celu zwrócenie uwagi na mediacje pedagogiczne, które są uważane za niezbędne do umieszczenia koncepcji teoretycznych jako centralnej treści działalności dydaktycznej nauczyciela. Badania miały na celu wykazanie i obronę tezy, że myślenie teoretyczne można wprowadzać już od edukacji wczesnoszkolnej, gdy w dydaktyce prowadzone są działania, w których wiedza teoretyczna, będąca wyrazem jedności między produktem a procesem logiczno-historycznego ruchu wypracowywania pojęć, jest umieszczana jako centralny element aktywności podmiotów.

    The purpose of this scoping review is to examine the extent, range, and nature of the use of institutional ethnography (IE) as a method of inquiry in peer-reviewed journal publications. Fifteen databases were searched between the years of 2003 and 2013. Relevant data were extracted from 179 included articles. Findings relate to nine key areas including year of publication, authorship and geography, types of journals, format of resources, authors’ descriptions of how they used IE, approaches used in conjunction with IE, data collection methods, standpoint, and institutional relations. Institutional ethnography was diversely conceptualized as: a (sociological) method of inquiry, methodology, research approach, feminist sociology, theory and methodology, framework, lens, field, perspective, and form of analysis. Inevitably, authors applied IE differently across their research and writing, ranging from direct usage or close adherence to IE in a comprehensive manner; to indirect usage or loose adherence to IE by drawing on it as inspiration, guidance, or influence; or borrowing from a certain facet of IE such as a particular theory, concept, method, tool, or analytic strategy. Additionally, some authors adapted IE to suit a specific purpose, which entailed using modified versions of IE to fit a given context or objective, while others strived to extend existing understandings of IE through critique, explanation, review, elaboration, or reflection. The results from this study are useful to both beginning and experienced institutional ethnographers, as the insights gained provide clarity about the use of IE, identify trends in its application, and raise additional questions.

    Wiek XVI we Francji dążył do pojednania myśli pogańskiej z myślą chrześcijańską, pragnąc jednocześnie zrewidować słuszność założeń tradycyjnych, aby tym łatwiej odpierać ataki niewierzących. Stąd według autorki doszło do zadziwiającego paradoksu: można wątpić we wszystko wierząc we wszystko, jeśli pozbędziemy się prawa do rozumowania. Wątpliwość sceptyczna byłaby w rzeczywistości etapem, który pozwoliłby filozofowi na osiągnięcie pewności wiary. Wiara bowiem istnieje poza rozumem, gdyż odnosi się do rzeczywistości transcendentnej, którą jest Bóg. Autorka powołuje się na bardziej i mniej wybitnych sceptyków XVI-wiecznych (Montaigne, Pascal, Omer Talon, Guy de Brues, Henri Ëstienne, Gentian Hervet, François Sanchez), którzy w swoich dziełach podejmowali dialog z myślicielami starożytnymi,by lepiej zrozumieć względność wszelakich systemów myślowych i instytucji politycznych i' religijnych. Najistotniejszym dziełem w zrozumieniu dylematu sceptyka byłoby De natura deorum Cicerona - dzieło, które wywarło wpływ na renesansowych sceptyków nie tylko poprzez nośność zawartych w nim idei, ale również poprzez użycie swoistego dialogu filozoficznego, który umożliwiał im pewną wolność wyrażania myśli, a czytelnikowi ukazywał niezbicie, że osiągnięcie pewności filozoficznej jest niemożliwe. Chrześcijański sceptyk, pragnąc znaleźć pewność, poruszał się w labiryncie systemów filozoficznych i znajdywał jedynie wątpliwą możliwość poznania; jedynym wyjściem była więc wiara. Wątpliwość natomiast była mieczem sceptyka do zwalczania niewiary zrodzonej z filozofii, liczony bowiem mógł jedynie odnaleźć to, co "prawdopodobne", a jeden Bóg rozumiał przyczynowość wszystkich rzeczy. Rozwój idei sceptycyzmu w XVI w. miał więc sprzyjać rozwojowi sceptycyzmu chrześcijańskiego, gdzie wiara miała być jedyną drogą do poznania Boga. Należało zvątpić w rozum, aby dotrzeć do poznania doskonałego, które spoczywa w Bogu.

    Ophelia of Pirandello: reflections around female madness Abstract The article is devoted to an analysis of Luigi Pirandello’s drama As You Desire Me which drawsinspiration from an actual event connected with questions on the identity of a person sufferingfrom amnesia. Unlike the real incident, the main character of Pirandello’s is a woman knownonly by her alias Stranger, as the main theme of the drama is establishing her true identity. Thepresent article aims at proving that Pirandello’s drama is not a criminal mystery, but rathera deep reflection on the notion of human personality which in the case of a woman receivesnew, interesting meanings. One of them is spotting the correspondence between Pirandelli’sStranger and Shakespeare’s Ophelia, as madness of both characters appears to have similarroots: female’s insanity seen through the prism of both dramas appears as defiance againstthe culture of patriarchy, but also stems from the conviction of one’s own emptiness andundefinedness. In this context, referring to studies on feminist criticism (E. Shawalter,K. Kłosińska, K. Woźniak), including studies on female hysteria is of relevance. Even thoughthe structure of drama appears to lead to a finale in which the truth about the character isuncovered, Pirandello does not reveal her true identity. However, questions on female identityand female madness are worth reflecting upon, even if they remain unanswered.     Zarówno w krajach rozwiniętych, jak i rozwijających się przed szkolnictwem wyższym stawiane są coraz większe oczekiwania dotyczące zwiększenia dostępności, poprawy osiągnięć i zbliżenia do potrzeb zgłaszanych przez rynek pracy. W tych warunkach szkolnictwo wyższe mogłoby wiele skorzystać z analiz nastawionych na wewnętrzne problemy funkcjonowania oraz z sugestii uczonych i praktyków, którzy posiedli pogłębioną wiedzę na temat szkolnictwa. Jednak stosunki między badaczami a politykami w sferze szkolnictwa wyższego uważa się za dalekie od doskonałości. W niniejszym artykule proponuje się podejście do relacji między polityką, praktyką i badaniami nad szkolnictwem wyższym koncentrujące się na wzorcach komunikacji między nimi. Sugeruje się przyczyny, które spowodowały utrzymywanie się niewłaściwych relacji między badaniami i polityką oraz proponuje sposoby ich naprawy, takie jak wybór najlepszego wzorca „świadczenia usług” przez badaczy, zwrócenie większej uwagi na klientów czy akceptacja przez badaczy wpływu przypadkowych elementów na proces tworzenia polityki.
    Higher education in both industrialized and developing countries is facing heightened expectations for increased access, improved performance and greater relevance to workplace needs. In such a context systems of higher education could benefit greatly from the insights and suggestions of scholars and practitioners who had acquired special expertise. However the relationship between the research and political words of higher education is considered to be problematic. This paper offers a perspective on the relationship of policy, practice and research in higher education by focusing especially on communication patterns among them. It suggests some reasons that relatively poor communication persists between research and policy and offers some suggestions for improving Communications, such as: choosing the best “modes of delivery”, paying attention to the audience and accepting random aspects of policy formation by researchers.

    Em um mundo repleto de conflitos e ameaças naturais, indivíduos são obrigados a sair de sua ter-ra natal e procurar proteção em outro país. O Brasil é um país que abriga milhares de refugiados e essa situação acarreta em diversas mudanças econômicas, simbólicas e especialmente cultu-rais. A inserção em uma nova cultura exige um processo constante de (re)construção de identi-dades, de forma que o indivíduo continua preservando sua cultura ao mesmo tempo que se recria com uma nova identidade no país de refúgio. Esse artigo visa discutir como esse processo identi-tário através de um marcador cultural muito comum: a alimentação. Dessa forma, busca-se refle-tir qual o papel das práticas alimentares no processo de construção de uma identidade de refugiado, ao mesmo tempo em que é pensada a influência da cultura alimentar na preservação de identidade étnica.
    In a world full of natural conflicts and threats, individuals are forced to leave their homeland and seek protection in another country. Brazil is a country that shelters thousands of refugees and this situation has led to several economic, symbolic and especially cultural changes. Insertion into a new culture requires a constant process of building identities, so the individual continues to pre-serve his culture while re-creating a new identity in the country of refuge. This article aims to discuss how this identity process occurs through a very common cultural marker: food. In this way, it is sought to reflect on the role of food practices in the process of elaborating a refugee's identity and the influence of food culture on the preservation of ethnic identity.
