Opis:
This article begins by examining previous empirical studies to demonstrate that language anxiety, or the negative emotional reaction learners experience when using a second language (MacIntyre & Gardner, 1999), is a dynamic individual difference learner variable. I show that it forms part of an interconnected, constantly-in-flux system that changes unpredictably over multiple time scales. While at certain times this system might settle into an attractor state that accommodates contradictory conditions, perturbations that arise may lead to development and change with the curious possibility that minor disruptions generate large effects while major alterations go unnoticed. In essence, language anxiety (LA) is part of a continuous complex system in which each state evolves from a previous one. After I establish LA as a dynamic variable using the aforementioned criteria, I outline the implications and challenges for researching LA using a dynamic paradigm, which include focusing on individuals, transforming LA research questions, designing interventions and re-thinking data gathering methodologies. I conclude with implications for language teaching that emphasize: 1) raising awareness of the importance of decoding nonverbal behavior to identify moment-by-moment shifts in learner emotion; 2) remaining vigilant concerning variables that are interacting with LA that make this factor part of a cyclical process; 3) understanding that anxiety co-exists with positive emotions to varying degrees and that language tasks are not unanimously enjoyed or universally anxiety-provoking; and 4) incorporating positive psychology activities that proactively encourage buoyancy and resilience for moment-by-moment daily perturbations as well as debilitating disruptions that result in long-lasting influences.

Opis:
In this article the problem of determination of coefficients a1, a2, . . . , an of the characteristic equation which yield required extremal values of the solution x(t) at extremal values τ of time is solved. The extremal values of x(t) and τ are treated as functions of the roots s1, s2, . . . , sn. The analytical formulae enable to design the systems with prescribed dynamic properties. The zeros and poles can be located using the known method. The extremal dynamic error x(t) is the most important property of the behaviour of the system. This extremal value of the dynamic error has fundamental role in the chemical industry where for example overrising temperature or pressure can lead to an explosion. A second very important property is the extremal time τ connected with the extremal value of the error. This property is essential in the electroenergetic system, which can be destroyed by the overvoltages waves.

Opis:
The maximal value of the error is the most important criterion in system design. It is also the most difficult one. For that reason there exist many other criteria. The extreme value of the error represents the attainable accuracy which can be obtained and the corresponding extreme time gives information about how fast the transients are. The extreme values of the error and the corresponding time are treated here as functions of the roots of the characteristic equation. The proposed analytical formulae allow designing systems with prescribed dynamic properties.

Opis:
Around 20 percent of CO2 emitted as a result of human activity on Earth comes from transportation. One of the ideas, which lead to diminishing of the greenhouse gases emission, is reducing of fuel consumption. It may be achieved by introducing a new powertrain solutions as well as lowering overall vehicle weight. The reduction of vehicle weight may be obtained by both a new design of part and structures and application of a new materials i.e. aluminium alloys. It has to be emphasised that weight reduction is very important for combustion engine driven vehicles and electric driven vehicles as well. Mass lowering is especially desirable in the case of electric vehicles because they typically have a very narrow operational range usually lower than 200 km. Therefore even small weight reduction decreases energy consumption of EV and as a consequence increases its range, which is a crucial parameter for users. The results presented in this article were focused on high strength aluminium alloys of 6082-T6 and 7075-T6 types. Applying of those materials enables mass lowering of structures up to 50 percent, maintaining original functionality. Moreover, aluminium alloys may be also used in energy absorbing structures. The goal of tests was to obtain data required in FE analysis. In order to simulate dynamic phenomenon i.e. vehicle crash investigation of the stress-strain curves of alloys were carried out at wide range of strain rates using Hopkinson bar.

Opis:
The springing support in a driver’s seat is a very serious issue, such that manufacturers are increasing their efforts to optimize the dynamic properties of this kind of seat. The main optimization criterion is vibration insulation efficiency with regard to health research and associated health standards and regulations. This article deals with the definition of the optimal driver’s seat properties in relation to two examples of springing systems with different kinds of damping. The first case involves the springing support of a driver’s seat that uses a pneumatic spring and a telescopic hydraulic damper. In the second case, the damping effect is achieved by two pneumatic springs whose forces effect a phase shift due to a throttle valve located in the connecting piping system.

For solution of the problem the properties of symmetrical equations are used. The method is illustrated by an example of the equation of 4-th degree. The regions of the different kinds of the roots: real, with one pair of complex and two pairs of complex roots are illustrated. A practical problem is shown.

Opis:
The paper contains the results of natural surface film surface pressure – area experiments carried out in inland waters and shallow offshore regions of the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas during 1990–99 under calm water conditions using the Langmuir trough – Wilhelmy filter paper plate system, which ‘cuts out’ an undisturbed film-covered sea area without any initial physico-chemical sample processing. The limiting specific area Alim (268–3157 ˚A2/molecule−1) and mean molecular mass (0.65–9.7 kDa) of microlayer surfactants were determined from the 2D virial equation of state applied to the isotherms. Film structure signatures were derived from π − A isotherm hysteresis and application of the 2D polymer scaling theory. The stress-relaxation measurements revealed a two-step relaxation process at the interface with characteristic times τ1 (1.1–2.8) and τ2 (5.6–25.6) seconds suggesting the presence of diffusion-controlled and structural organization relaxation phenomena. The results demonstrate that natural films are a complex mixture of biomolecules covering a wide range of solubilities, surface activity and molecular mass with an apparent structural organization exhibiting a spatial and temporal variability.

Opis:
The paper presents the issue of modelling the system of the PRT vehicle – track. The PRT – Personal Rapid Transit concept is defined as an innovative transport system composed of small vehicles (3–5 persons) moving on the light infrastructure situated at a height of above 5 meters above the ground. This is a system that combines the features of individual and public transport. An important feature of this system is the implementation of the transport approach known as the ‘point to point’ rule that is to say between the initial and the final stop the vehicle does not stop at the intermediate stops. The vehicle has no driver. Routing choice and collision avoidance are performed through a complex computer system.
