Celem moich rozważań nie jest przedstawienie całościowej wizji kryminologicznych koncepcji przestępczości kobiet lecz tylko pewnego jej wycinka. Treść narracji jest zatem częściowo reprezentatywna dla przedstawionego problemu, a w dalszych eksploracjach podejmę próbę uwzględnienia perspektyw teoretycznych w innych nurtach, które związane są ze studiami nad kobiecością (ang. gender studies).
The criminal activity of women in selected criminological theories – cultural gender contexts Abstract: The aim of this text is to reconstruct selected criminological theories. I consciously ignore concepts of a different profile, focusing on gender as a key category. The aim of my deliberations is not to present a comprehensive vision of the criminological conceptsof female crime, but only a certain portion of it. The content of the narrative is therefore partly representative of the problem presented, and in further explorations I will attempt to take into account theoretical perspectives in other trends related to studies on femininity (gender studies).

Aim. The aim of the article is to reveal gender realisation peculiarities in English and German advertising texts. The concept of the research work is focused on the idea that representatives of different languages and cultures make unique world environment. The work proves the concept validity of the unique language nature in the distinctive idea of its cognitive base formed by an ethnic group. Methods. The concepts of universality and uniqueness of the linguistic and cultural features of gender perception are revealed using the methods of analysis and generalisation. Results. The result of the research work is in the necessity for advertising texts to have special gender language markers which are the kind of signal influencing the conscience of men and women while making purchases. The authors stress that social characteristics of men and women, such as age, social or family status expressed in the form of various degrees of comparison of adjectives are used mainly in English magazines; while German advertising texts put the use of adjectives and articles on the first place. Advertising for women have the set of a special expressive and emotional language tools complex while for men the use of vocabulary stressing the main type of activity of a man - energy is of the top priority. Conclusion. The research work presents cognitive value in theory and practical recommendations to gender linguistics specialising in advertising texts structure illustrating peculiar features of men and women as consumers being influenced by language, cultural, psychological characteristics.

The aim of the article is to answer the question of whether gender and cultural origin differentiate the process of diagnosis towards ADHD. This text was inspired by the insufficient identification of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD in girls and women as well as cultural, ethnic and racial minorities. Analyzing in detail the course of the diagnostic process towards attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the author points to its components that may be responsible for diagnostic errors, leading to the lack or incorrect diagnosis of ADHD in people from both mentioned groups. The following issues stand out in the foreground: diagnostician’s prejudices, cultural competences of a diagnostician, cultural bias of diagnostic tools, parents’ fears and prejudices, which affect the final result of the diagnosis of people towards ADHD. The author in her article referred to modern knowledge about: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), its symptoms and causes, rules of psychological and pedagogical research and the latest results of scientific research in the presented topic.
Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, czy płeć i pochodzenie kulturowe różnicują proces diagnozy w kierunku ADHD? Inspiracją do powstania niniejszego tekstu był fakt niedostatecznej identyfikacji zespołu nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej z deficytem uwagi (ADHD) u dziewcząt i kobiet oraz u mniejszości kulturowych, etnicznych i rasowych. Analizując szczegółowo przebieg procesu diagnostycznego w kierunku zespołu nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej z deficytem uwagi (ADHD), autorka wskazuje na te jego składowe, które mogą być odpowiedzialne za błędy diagnostyczne prowadzące do braku lub błędnego rozpoznania ADHD u osób z obu wspomnianych grup. Na pierwszy plan wybijają się takie zagadnienia jak: uprzedzenia diagnosty, kompetencje kulturowe diagnosty, kulturowe skrzywienie narzędzi diagnostycznych, obawy i uprzedzenia rodziców, które wpływają na końcowy efekt diagnozy osób w kierunku ADHD. Autorka w swym artykule odwołała się do współczesnej wiedzy na temat: zespołu nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej z deficytem uwagi (ADHD), jego objawów i przyczyn, prawidłowości badań psychologiczno-pedagogicznych oraz najnowszych wyników badań naukowych w przedstawianym temacie.

Motivated by the Speech Act theory, gender-specific use of language, and cross-cultural communication, this study intended to address quantitatively how cultural differences and gender patterns affect the way Persian and English native-speaking spouses apologize and utilize apology strategies in their conversational routines. To triangulate data, both a questionnaire (Chopman, 2012) and a focus-group semi-structured open-ended interview were used to collect data on sixty participants’ linguistic behavior and their apology exchange. The Chi-square results for inter-cultural/gender comparisons indicated a higher rate of apologies among the English spouses and a variety in the rate and kind of apology strategies use. However, intra-cultural ones demonstrated twice more apology use by Persian females than males and no significant difference between the English spouses. The findings may have great appeal for both EFL learners and teachers to attend more to the nature of the apology speech act and its exchange among various groups and in different cultures and provide Persian EFL learners with information that may help them improve their pragmatic competence in English. The study also contributes to the pragmatics teaching curriculum and EFL research.

The article discusses family practices and gender relations in the interethnic couples of Polish women having foreign partners. While the theoretical framework engages with conceptualizations of family practice, binational coupledom, cultural diffusion and gender orders, the mix-methods methodological approach combines cases from three qualitative and thematically-linked research projects on Polish migration across three EU destination countries. We argue that spousal attitudes to gender orders shape the degree of cultural diffusion in interethnic couples formed by Polish women in Western Europe. In addition, we propose that gender orders of the spouses must not align with the ethnic belonging, but rather illuminate the pre-existing preferences for a traditional or egalitarian model. More broadly, we observe that women remain the key agents of sustaining or rejecting the Polish heritage and practices in the everyday life. In other words, the women determine the degree and shape of the intra-family cultural diffusion.

In this text, I focus on the role that dominant culturally based genderstereotypes and beliefs play in adolescent violence in the context of everyday school life. In other words, I concentrate on how the androcentric order, unequal social position of women and men, and cultural definitions of femininity and masculinity impact everyday school reality and the relationships between adolescent girls and boys. The text builds on the notion of gender understood as a changeable and socially negotiable cultural construct that plays out in discourses, definitions, values and norms concerning femininity, masculinity and the differences between them.

This article discusses a 2018 theatrical production of Hamlet with Romanian teenage arts students, directed by one of the article’s authors, actress and academic Dana Trifan Enache. As an artist, she believes that the art of theatre spectacle depends pre-eminently on the actors’ enactment, and hones her students’ acting skills and technique accordingly. The other voice in the article comes from an academic in a cognate discipline within the broad field of arts and humanities. As a feminist and medievalist, the latter has investigated the political underside of representations of the body in religious drama, amongst others. The analytic duo reflects as much the authors’ different professional formation and academic interests as their asymmetrical positioning vis-à-vis the show as respectively the play’s director and one of its spectators. Their shared occupational investment, teaching to form and hone highly specialized professional skills, and shared object of professional interest (broadly conceived), text interpretation, account nevertheless for the possibility of fruitful interdisciplinary reflection on the 2018 Hamlet. This in-depth analysis of the circumstances of the performance and technical solutions it sought challenges stereotyped dismissals of a students’ Hamlet as superannuated, flimsy or gratuitously provocative. Furthermore, a gender-aware examination of the adaptation’s original handling of characters and scenes indicates unexpected cross-cultural and diachronic commonalities between the dramatic world of the 2018 Romanian production of Hamlet and socio-cultural developments emergent in pre-Shakespearean England.

This paper aims to illustrate the research path and methodological aspects of the study of sexual normativity with reference to a specific population of the LGBTQ+ universe, namely binary and non-binary transgender people in the Italian context through the analysis and historical reconstructions of the path of gender afirmation, in daily life and in the narrative proposed by the main old media. The decision to orient the focus of the analysis on transnormativity is related to the observation of an important research gap present in the scholarly literature, which has so far analyzed the processes of the construction of sexual normativity in mainstream society - and, as a result, has produced several studies and theorizing on heteronormativity and the male homosexual population (or homonormativity) - while conspicuously leaving out noncisgenderist sexual identies (transgender, genderfluid, agender, etc.). Following up on these premises, specifically, the following research questions were set: what are the reference gender models that guide and direct the identity construction of transgender people? And what are those of binary and non-binary people? how do these models reflect aspects atributable to mainstream sexual normativity (mainly heteronormativity and cisgenderism) furthermore, what diefrences are evident among these reference models in relation to various socio-demographic and identity aspects (how do they vary according to age, educational qualification, gender identity status, and sexual orientation). In order to try to answer the questions of the research design, a survey was conducted, using a biographical approach, through the administration of semi-structured interviews with privileged witnesses working in the field of gender reafirmation pathways in the medical, clinical and legal fields, in order to reconstruct the chronological and cultural stages of the construction of transnormativity from the enactment of State Law 164/1982 to the present day. In contrast to this perspective, new, increasingly fluid, complex, and diefrentiated demands are emerging, which have generated debate on the one hand and tension both with mainstream society and within the LGBTQ+ community on the other. This paper focuses on the impact and effectiveness of feminine and masculine styles of leadership on contrasting genders in four different economies namely; India, Canada, Pakistan, and United Kingdom’s IT Sector. By combining probability and non-probability sampling techniques, the data has been gathered from 248 respondents via semi-structured 5-points scale survey questionnaire. The findings have shown that employees irrespective gender are significant positively affected by feminine leadership style. Additionally, in developing countries; Pakistan and India there is significant use of feminine leadership while developed economies namely; Canada and the UK have higher preference for masculine leadership style. Nevertheless, overall male workers do not have higher preference to work under masculine leadership style while females have higher preference for both masculine and feminine leadership styles. Interestingly, feminine style of leadership is highly demonstrated by males in Pakistan while in other three economies, it is exhibited by female line-managers. Moreover, female line-managers in the UK have shown higher masculine style of leadership in contrast to other economies. There is significant positive relationship between style of leadership and contrasting genders in distinctive economies. Additionally, feminine leadership style is more effective than the masculine leadership style. Feminine leaders demonstrate higher people-orientation and participative style of management whereas masculine leaders rely on task-orientation and autocratic style.
Artykuł koncentruje się na wpływie i skuteczności kobiecych i męskich stylów przywództwa w czterech różnych gospodarkach, a mianowicie sektorze IT w Indiach, Kanadzie, Pakistanie i Wielkiej Brytanii. Łącząc techniki próbkowania z doborem losowym i nielosowym, dane zebrano od 248 respondentów za pomocą półstrukturyzowanego 5-punktowego kwestionariusza ankiety. Ustalenia wykazały, że pracownicy bez względu na płeć pozostają pod znacznym pozytywnym wpływem stylu kobiecego przywództwa. W krajach rozwijających się - w Pakistanie i Indiach aktywnie wykorzystuje się kobiece przywództwo, podczas gdy w gospodarkach rozwiniętych, w Kanadzie i Wielkiej Brytanii preferuje się męski styl przywództwa. Co ciekawe, badanie wykazało, że kobiecy styl przywództwa jest wysoce popierany przez mężczyzn w Pakistanie, podczas gdy w innych trzech gospodarkach jest demonstrowany przez kobiecych menedżerów linii. Co więcej, menedżerowie liniowi w Wielkiej Brytanii, jako dominujący, wykazali męski styl przywództwa w przeciwieństwie do innych gospodarek. Istnieje wyraźna pozytywna zależność między stylem przywództwa a płcią w odróżniających się gospodarkach. Ponadto kobiecy styl przywództwa jest bardziej skuteczny niż męski. Kobiety, jako przywódcy demonstrują wyższy orientacyjny i partycypacyjny styl zarządzania, podczas gdy męscy liderzy polegają na stylu zadaniowym i autokratycznym.

One of the main traits of a society of reflexive modernity is the critical analysis of categories that in the past appeared unquestionable. Socio-cultural gender and health or illness/mental disorders are categories of this type. Above all, they are socially constructed, that is, they are dependent on culture and on political, economic, and religious factors. The author undertakes to analyse the relations between the diagnostic criteria used in the international system of classifying mental diseases (DSM-IV and ICD-10) and traditional schemas of masculinity and femininity. Confirmation of the incidence of particular diseases in connection with gender is the author’s entry point for seeking answers to why individuals suffering from certain illnesses/mental disorders display behaviour corresponding to traditional gender roles, even though contemporary gender roles are fluid in many respects, and hypotheses about biological differences as causes of incidence of disease in men and women have not been empirically confirmed

The purpose of this research is to identify if there is conflict between employees of IKC who come from masculine or feminine cultural backgrounds. In order to response this question, I focused mainly on methodology, and for the analysis of the data it used qualitative analyses. There is a benefit to study for this research paper, as it helps to  communicate better for some people who work with different cultures in a workplace. I am wandering if there is a common value within the group of employees to increase the productivity of IKC. Organizational values overrode cultural background in a religious organization. Hofstede’s ranking of countries, on masculine versus feminine traits, had no effect on the level of conflict.

Interested in the socio-cultural construction of the body and beauty, this study investigates the embodied experience of Black African women in South Africa. The Black female body has been problematically positioned in the discourses of beauty. In the dominant, Westernized imagery, the physical markers of blackness such as dark skin and kinky hair have been aesthetically devalued. In the African traditionalist discourses, these body features have been celebrated as beautiful and invoked as the signifiers of cultural pride. This, however, has also been considered as a form of cultural imperative that holds women accountable for how they embody their relationship with their race and ethnicity. Most recently, cultural critics notice the aesthetic revaluation of Black female beauty and ascribe it to the global popularity of the African-American hip-hop culture. In this study, we explore how the socio-cultural complexity of Black female beauty affects the ways in which individuals make sense of their bodies.

The process of sex education is set in a concrete socio-cultural background which includes such phenomena as the trivialization of sex, the tendency to call in the question of the moral norms concerning the human sex behaviours, the cybersex and the spread of the principles of the theory of gender. The author analyses the influence of the contemporary socio-cultural life’ phenomena on the process of the sex education and presents the problematical issues occurring in the field of education in a form of questions. The contemporary socio-cultural context of sex education is probably not to be changed. Therefore it is necessary to search for such methods and ways of the youth’s education that will shape mature and responsible sex attitudes and behaviours. In this paper, which is an attempt to diagnose the contemporary socio-cultural background of sex education, the reader does not find solutions, but rather questions by means of which the author encourages and provokes to search for the solutions. These questions arise from the confrontation between the catholic principles of the sex education and the contemporary problems in the field of the sex behaviours and education. In the last part of the article some positive elements of the contemporary aspects of the sex education are presented which outline a more optimistic view of the process of the youth’s sex education in our times.

Artykuł przedstawia wyniki badania przeprowadzonego w dziewięciu polskich liceach ogólnokształcących. Dotyczyło ono wpływu zajęć warsztatowych na temat świata islamu na stosunek do Arabów i innych narodów. Zastosowano dwie techniki pomiaru – wartościowanie muzułmanina (10 cech) oraz skalę dystansu (10-stopniowa zmodyfikowana skala Bogardusa). Oprócz zmiany postaw wobec Arabów i muzułmanów (efekt specyficzny) – warsztaty przełożyły się także na zmianę stosunku badanej młodzieży do przedstawicieli innych kultur – Romów i Indusów (efekt niespecyficzny). Istotne okazały się także różnice między płciami, dotyczące zarówno bazowego poziomu deklarowanej otwartości na Obcych, preferencji poszczególnych narodów, jak i efektów uzyskanych w obu grupach po oddziaływaniu edukacyjnym.

Komparatystyczna analiza dwóch współczesnych wierszy poezji amerykańskiej, uruchamiająca mechanizmy analizy językowej (porównywanie różnych przekładów i tekstów oryginalnych), kulturowej (rozwijanie wątków religijnych, filozoficznych, kontrkulturowych – bitnicy, kultura gejowska USA), prowadzonej w perspektywie tanatologicznej i genderowej. Próba ukazania zakorzenienia tej poezji w tradycji liryki amerykańskiej i przedstawienia nowatorstwa tak ujmowanej problematyki. Symultaniczna interpretacja akcentuje miejsca wspólne podmiotów lirycznych oraz tropi pozornie marginalne sygnały kulturowe.
The paper is a comparative analysis of two contemporary American poems which activates mechanisms of linguistic (comparing diff erent translations and confronting them with the source texts), and cultural (elaborating on the religious, philosophical and countercultural issues concerning the Beat Generation and gay culture in the US) analyses from a thanatological and gender perspective. It is an att empt to show the affi liations between these literary works and the tradition of American poetry as well as their novelty. Simultaneous interpretation highlights loci communes of lyrical subjects and discerns seemingly marginal cultural signs.
