Opis:
A continuous production of oligoaminosaccharides from chitosan was achieved with a column reactor packed with chitosanolytic enzymes-containing mycelia of Mucor circinelloides and Mucor racemosus immobilized in porous carriers. The efficient work of the bed used for chitosan hydrolysis in a column reactor lasted for several or more than 10 days and depended on a type of a carrier and substrate concentration. Because a crucial parameter for large scale applications of enzymes is their operating stability, presented research intended to improve it through stabilization of proteins and elimination of their leakage from the carrier. Cross-linking of mycelial preparations of chitosanolytic enzymes with 1% glutaraldehyde did not increase their stability and further process optimization is necessary.

Opis:
The lack of proper analytical models of some production processes prevents us from obtaining proper values of process parameters by simply computing optimal values. Possible solutions of control problems in such areas of industrial processes can be found using certain methods from the domain of artificial intelligence: neural networks, fuzzy logic, expert systems, or evolutionary algorithms. Presented in this work, a solution to such a control problem is an alternative approach that combines control of the industrial process with learning based on production results. By formulating the main assumptions of the proposed methodology, decision processes of a human operator using his experience are taken into consideration. The researched model of using and gathering experience of human beings is designed with the contribution of agent technology. The presented solution of the control problem coincides with case-based reasoning (CBR) methodology.

Within classic German manufacturing structures, costs of resources exceed all other cost factors by 46% [1]. Solitary focus on energy or labor costs as sources to raise companies profit no longer seems adequate. Nowadays material costs of the manufacturing industry are about 500 billion euro per year, connected with a saving potential of 100 billion euro per year. Also the belonging for sustainably produced products is raising and becoming a factor for guaranteed purchases [2]. A small and medium-sized enterprise fitted approach, which ensures to increase the transparency of internal process structures and allows a resource driven, ecological and economical assessment, is the main subject of this article.

Opis:
Preparation and properties of hierarchically structured porous silica monoliths have been discussed from the viewpoint of their application as continuous microreactors for liquid-phase synthesis of fine chemical in multi kilogram scales. The results of recent topical papers published by two research teams of Institute of Chemical Engineering Polish Academy of Sciences (ICE) and Department of Chemical Engineering and Process Design, Chemical Faculty, Silesian University of Technology (SUT) have been analyzed to specify the governing traits of microreactors. It was concluded that even enhancement factor of 100 in activity, seen in enzyme catalyzed reactions, can be explained by a proportional reduction of its physical constraints, i.e. huge enhancement of external mass transfer and micromixing. It is induced by very chaotic flows of liquid in tens of thousands of waving connected channels of ca. 25–50 mm in diameter, present in the skeleton. The scale of enhancement in the caseof less active catalysts was smaller, but still large enough to consider the most practical applications.

The first purpose of the study was to evaluate the influence of incubation parameters for efficiency of bacterial adhesion on surface of three solid, mineral porous carriers. Second aim of the study was the use of the immobilized Lactobacillus casei cells, in the production of lactic acid and selection, best carriers for continuous production using column bioreactor. The results showed that bacterial adhesion was different depending on the incubation conditions. In all tested samples, the highest efficiency of bacterial adhesion achieved after incubation at 30 °C without shaking which was related to bacterial viability. The results showed that, the highest efficiency of lactic acid production by free cells has been obtained at 30 °C after 48h – 110% (w/w) (lactic acid yield from consumed glucose). This results have been confirmed by further tests which have shown that in stationary culture, the highest production of lactic acid was reached by immobilised bacteria cells on pumice and kermiste after 48 hours at 30 °C.

W artykule przedstawiono podział na rodziny betonów ciągu wyników badan wytrzymałości betonu na ściskanie przy ciągłej produkcji mieszanki betonowej na potrzeby wytwarzania prefabrykowanych płyt stropowych w technologii Spiroll. W oparciu o procedurę obliczeniową, polegającą na weryfikacji założonych hipotez statystycznych, dokonano rozdziału zbioru wyników reprezentującego wytrzymałość po 1 oraz po 28 dniach dojrzewania. Uzyskano rodziny betonów reprezentujące statystyczną niezmienność parametrów wytrzymałościowych betonu wyprodukowanego w określonym przedziale czasu.
The article presents the division of test results series for the compressive strength of concrete into concrete families for the continuous production of concrete mix used for the manufacture of precast concrete slabs in Spiroll technology. On the basis of a calculation procedure involving the verification of assumed statistical hypotheses, the division of a set of concrete strength results achieved after 1 and 28 days of curing was made. Concrete families were obtained representing the statistical invariability of strength parameters for the concrete manufactured in a defined period of time.

The subject of the studies is the evaluation of the operation of a production system after modernization. The analysed case concerns the modernization forced by the end of the product lifetime. The proposed methodology is that of a multicriterial evaluation of the system operation after modernization. The evaluation criteria are selected TPM indices: availability of machinery and equipment, production process capacity, product quality and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). The additional criteria are reliability indices MTBF and MTTR of studied production lines and the MTTR of the most unreliable equipment in each analysed line. A yearly monitoring of production process was proposed for obtaining the statistical credibility of the evaluation results. Additionally, a fuzzy indicator of acceptability of the modernization assessment was proposed. The paper presents the results of studies of the system for production of zinc concentrate from post-production waste. The obtained values of OEE, MTBF and MTTR indicators for the three tested lines make it possible to state that the modernization carried out is acceptable.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes such as three- dimensional (3D) printing are one of most important technologies of our century. Additive manufacturing is a manufacturing process in which 3D solid objects are created. It enables the creation of physical 3D models of objects using a series of an additive or layered development framework, where layers are laid down in succession to create a complete 3D object. Additive manufacturing is also known as 3D printing. The strongest reasons for the use of rapid prototypes in manufacturing are the production of parts with a small quantity or a complex shape, the obtaining of lighter parts, the prevention of waste of raw materials, a wider availability of testing and design and further personalization. Continuous liquid interface production (CLIP) is an alternative approach to AM by exploiting the basic principle of oxygen-impaired photopolymerization to create a continuous fluid interface of uncured resin between the growing section and the exposure window.

This article shows step by step process of creating general algorithm saying how to implement continuous flow in production companies. Article is based on real environment of medium Polish production company, which produces steel halls. After presenting basic information about TOC and LEAN tools it shows and algorithm showing activities and sequence made in real company. Authors proposed solutions referred to both the material flow changing's and the information flow changing's. Main goal was adapt production process to unchangeable work of bottleneck. After all, results of production flow simulation after implementation of above solutions were presented. Finally, authors created algorithm based on techniques and tools implemented in mentioned company. It shows in general what production engineers should do step by step while implementing continuous flow in production.

The paper presents a case study of the practical use of Deming cycle in a manufacturing company, from the plastics processing industry, from the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises. The paper is a study of literature in the field of continuous improvement and characterized by a cycle of continuous improvement, called the Deming cycle, or PDCA cycle. This cycle was used as a solution to quality problems which occurred during production of photo frames: discolorations and scorches on the surface of the frame. When measures were introduced to reduce the number of non-conformities, a decrease by more than 60% was observed.

Opisano nową metodę ciągłej produkcji sera zasadzającą się na wymuszonej koagulacji mleka w przepływie w trakcie enzymatycznej fazy działania podpuszczką. Skonstruowano urządzenie za pomocą którego wykonano pewną liczbę prób, posługując się opracowaną metodą. Scharakteryzowano przebieg procesu technologicznego. Wyniki wykazują, że w przytoczony sposób można otrzymać sery o zadowalającej zawartości wody, laktozy, kwasu mlekowego oraz soli mineralnych. Najważniejsze parametry technologiczne, np. liczba dodanych jonów wapnia, temperatura koagulacji i pH mleka przedstawiono graficznie i matematycznie. Parametry te można praktycznie wykorzystać w ciągłym procesie produkcji serów.

The article presents the project organization in the continuous flow water meter corps assembly process. On the basis of observations in the company analyzes were performed: the production process in the seating assembly, the scope of work of each operator, spatial development workplaces and how to supplying the materials. When developing new rules for the organization of the production flow the characteristics of the demand for products, which is one of the factors affecting the distribution of work between the operators, was taken into account. It shows the benefits of the continuous flow by eliminating waste, changing the method of division of labor carried out by the operators, and the spatial development of the seating. The result is to reduced the transit time of the material in process, reduced work-in-progress inventory and increasing flexibility in the customer's needs.

This paper presents the concept and methodology for the designing of a “tree-shaped” production line. The concept is a result of the search for production unit organization that meets the Lean Production assumptions, i.e. focusing on lead time (throughput time) shortening with simultaneous ability of use in conditions of varied product range. The varied product range characterized by lower technological-organizational similarity when compared to “Ushaped” units typical for Lean Production. The paper presents an algorithm for the designing of a “tree-shaped” production line and examples of its application. The designed unit underwent evaluation according to the criteria preferred by Lean Manufacturing experts. The designed production unit achieved results confirming the effectiveness of the proposed concept for the analysed sets of input data on the product range and production capacities.

Water hyacinth (WH) biomass is one of the popular materials in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta, a potential substrate for biogas production. The effectiveness of utilizing WH for producing biogas under anaerobic digestion was demonstrated in the previous studies, but the research was focused on the loading rate of about 1.0% volatile solid (VS). Therefore, in the present study, a semi-continuous anaerobic digestion experiment was conducted with the five levels of VS, including 1.0%VS, 1.5%VS, 2.0%VS, 2.5%VS, and 3.0%VS, to examine how loaded VS can affect biogas production. Each treatment was designed with three replications over 60 days. The measured parameters included pH, temperature (Temp; °C), redox potential (Eh; mV), daily produced biogas volume (L), cumulative biogas volume (L), and methane (CH4) concentration (%) during the 60 days of the experiment. The obtained results showed that pH, tempt, and Eh parameters did not negatively affect biogas production. However, the volume of daily biogas in the treatment of 3.0%VS was higher than in other treatments. In addition, the cumulative biogas volume in the treatment of 3.0%VS was the highest and significantly different between all reactors (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the treatment of 1.0%VS was known with the lowest values. The study explored that the volume of biogas could be increased when the organic loading rate VS is increased.

In line with modern era, it is a high demand of renewable energies due to fossil fuels crisis. This study applies food garbage to produce biogas - an alternative renewable energy source – under lab-scale batch and semi-continuous reactors. Designing with four loading total solid (TS) rates of 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, and 2.5%, the batch and the semi-continuous testing set up in 1.5 L and 21 L plastic reactors, respectively. Both testing was run in 60 days, produced biogas volume and compositions were recorded daily in semi-continuous reactors, and every ten days in the batch reactors. The results show that in batch testing, the biogas yields of treatments 1.0%TS, 1.5%TS, and 2.0%TS were better than those for treatment of 2.5%TS; however, %CH4 concentrations were better for treatments 2.0%TS and 2.5%TS. For the semi-continuous testing, the loading rate of 2.5% total solid food garbage produced the highest biogas yield which could meet the household demand of daily gas. Up to the day of 60, the %CH4 concentration was nearly 45% which proof the biogas can be used for cooking. H2S concentration in biogas was high which must be reduced to use produced biogas for cooking purpose. Further study needs to avoid accumulation of soluble organic acids, leading the low pH and inhibits methane-producing microorganisms in food garbage anaerobic reactor.

Six Sigma as the continuation of comprehensive quality management TQM is of interest to many enterprises. Unfortunately, not everybody successfully implements quality improvement projects using Six Sigma tools. This approach requires proper preparation in many areas of the company’s operation, including: organization of processes, establishing measures, employee engagement and creating conditions for continuous improvement. The goal of the article is to present on the case study the idea of using the organizational maturity model for production management to assess a readiness of organization to implement Six Sigma. The case study presents a company maturity level diagnosis and a successful project of quality and productivity improvement using the Six Sigma concept, confirming that the organization’s maturity model is the appropriate tool for assessing multi-faceted preparation for successful implementation of Six Sigma projects.

In the present study, we have discussed the selected problems of microstructure development during the whole manufacturing process, i.e. continuous casting, thermomechanical processing, and cold metal forming of the microalloyed steels wires. In the investigated steels, the microstructure development was controlled by the history of deformation and by the effects of microalloying elements, mostly Nb, Ti, and B. It has been concluded that obtained in the ultrafine grained microalloyed steel wires mechanical properties were first of all resulting from specific structural composition and grain refinement. Additionally, it has been proven that austenite grain refinement, that increases nucleation rate during the austenite-to-ferrite phase transformation, as a result of the thermomechanical processing, are very beneficial from point of view of the final mechanical properties. This problem starts to be very important when the microalloyed steel products are subjected to severe plastic deformation, as it has been shown discussed in the present work for combined processes of wire drawing and wire flattening.

The paper presents the results of research aimed at developing assumptions for the preparation of a charge in the form of fine scrap copper alloys (chips/shells) guaranteeing effective removal of impurities and obtaining a metal bath of the required metallurgical quality. The tests were conducted for tin-zinc-lead bronze of the CC499K grade. As part of the work, the characteristics of this type of waste available on the market were made in terms of quality and the possibility of their use for the production of both alloys and finished products, taking into account the elimination of harmful impurities that may ultimately affect the production process adversely. The subject of the work was the selection of appropriate waste cleaning methods in the form of an oily shell in the CC499K (CuZn5Sn5Pb2) grade and its drying in terms of increasing the use of impure waste from machining as scrap for direct melting. The waste was assessed in relation to individual parameters. The research was carried out on 3 groups of waste, with varying degrees of moisture.

The paper focuses on reducing the energy intensity of ladle metallurgy as part of steel production and the associated reduction of pollutant emissions. It can be achieved by optimising the thermal work of metallurgical aggregates in terms of the impact on energy consumption and the environmental burden of steel production. It is about minimising the heat loss of liquid steel in the casting ladle throughout the entire process, from the melting equipment, through the extra-furnace processing, to the continuous casting of the steel.

The article presents an approach to the research project in the field of production engineering in the framework of cooperation between science and industry. The project was conducted in a manufacturing company of automotive industry that operates in Poland. The main objective of the project is to conduct value stream mapping, including development of current state map including the observation of the process of preparing and assembling two products, working out the documentation of observed production processes and developing charts to compare planned and observed working time. Based on the current state map some suggestions to improve production process “from door to door” of the company are demonstrated. Suggestions for improvement of the current state are presented on the future state map.
Artykuł prezentuje podejście do realizacji projektu badawczego z dziedziny inżynierii produkcji w ramach współpracy nauki z przemysłem. Projekt został zrealizowany w przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym branży motoryzacyjnej działającym na terenie Polski. Celem głównym projektu było przeprowadzenie mapowania strumienia wartości obejmujące opracowanie mapy stanu obecnego, w tym obserwację procesu przygotowania i montażu dwóch wyrobów. Opracowano stosowną dokumentację dotyczącą zaobserwowanych procesów produkcyjnych oraz wykresy porównawcze planowanego i zaobserwowanego nakładu pracy. Na tej podstawie zaproponowano zmiany doskonalące przebieg procesu produkcyjnego "od drzwi do drzwi" przedsiębiorstwa. Propozycje doskonalenia stanu obecnego są zaprezentowane na mapie stanu przyszłego.

Soil is essential for food production, and there is need practice sustainable soil management. This study was aimed to evaluate physical and chemical properties of soils and their management in three farming communities; Sangasumi (SGS), Gangkoen (GGK) and Gangbuen (GGB) of Southern Adamawa State, Nigeria. The intent is to encourage optimum land use planning and increase the efficiency in the use of soil resources. In the work, a digital Terrain Model (DTM) was generated from the map of the study area, and three elevation ranges were identified; 660-780m - representing the upper-slope in SGS, 540-660m - representing the middle-slope in GGK and 420-540m - representing the lower-slope in GGB, respectively. Three slope positions were delineated using the Geographic Information System (GIS) and their coordinates were obtained by means of a Handheld Geographic Positioning System (GPS). Three profile pits were dug on each of the locations and soil samples were collected in each of the identified horizon of the pits. Standard laboratory procedures were then used to determine soil physical and chemical properties. Herein, results for particle size analysis indicated that the soils were predominantly sand, ranging between 51% to 91% across the pedons and %sand was positively correlated with bulk density. Moreover, soil pH in each sample was slightly acidic to neutral (6.1-6.5 to 6.6-7.3), while organic carbon and total nitrogen levels were low (<1%, <0.15%) and available phosphorus levels were medium (10-20ppm). In contrast, magnesium was high (>1), sodium recorded up to 0.60cmol/kg, potassium was also high (>0.3) and %base saturation were generally medium to high (50-80 to >80). Results suggest the soils have potentials for arable farming. However, soil erosion hazards had affected parts of the fields; this lead to reduction in soil fertility and crop yields. Addition of organic and inorganic fertilizers and control of soil erosion will greatly improve soil fertility losses and increase crop yields.

The paper presents an analysis of an innovative method based on the principles of the Toyota Production System - BOST survey, which was carried out in 8 selected production companies from the plastics processing industry operating in the Silesian Voivodeship. Each question in the BOST survey relates to a given Toyota Rule and the Toyota House Roof. Thanks to this survey, you can learn the opinion of the surveyed employees on many areas of the functioning of a given enterprise, which may be an important hint to the operational and strategic activities of the enterprise. In the study, 1 question was selected for analysis, containing a set of factors (areas) closely related to process improvement and personal characteristics of the respondents was analyzed. The result of the work is to determine the position of quality in the continuous improvement process according to the surveyed employees and to propose improvement activities for selected companies.

Recently, there is a growing pressure on a rapid construction of agricultural biogas plants, particularly in the Czech-Polish border region. It is an area with large expanses of agricultural land which can serve to supply biogas plants with biomass. This strategy should contribute to harmonize the common agricultural policy of the European Union. A need for qualified operators of these stations on this territory is also increasing. Therefore we first include a demonstration of an education program for students in the field of agricultural waste anaerobic fermentation and biogas production. We present here the first part of an innovative approach which we use in the teaching program “Physico-technical Measurements and Computer Technology” at the Faculty of Science at the University of Hradec Kralove and also in the education of internshipers from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology at the University of Opole. There are requirements to fulfil labour market expectations and to make this subject more attractive for the students. Students’ theoretical and practical preparation constitutes a comprehensive source of knowledge and skills required in a real life job. Joined theoretical and practical knowledge gained by students, reinforced by the skills developed during task analysis followed by their solution, provides the future graduate higher quality abilities and better position in the labour market.
W ostatnim czasie rośnie nacisk na budowę biogazowni rolniczych, szczególnie w czesko-polskim regionie przygranicznym. Jest to region, gdzie występują duże obszary gruntów rolnych mogących służyć do zasilania biogazowni. Strategia ta powinna przyczynić się do harmonizacji wspólnej polityki rolnej Unii Europejskiej. W związku z powyższym wzrasta również potrzeba wykształcenia wykwalifikowanych operatorów tych stacji. Pierwsza część pracy obejmuje prezentację akademickiego programu edukacyjnego w dziedzinie fermentacji beztlenowej odpadów i wytwarzania biogazu pochodzącego z produkcji rolnej. Zaprezentowano część innowacyjnego podejścia, które wykorzystywane jest w programie nauczania „Pomiary fizyko-techniczne oraz technologie komputerowe” na Wydziale Nauk Przyrodniczych Uniwersytetu Hradec Kralove, a także w edukacji studentów Wydziału Przyrodniczo-Technicznego Uniwersytetu Opolskiego. Wymagania te mają sprostać oczekiwaniom rynku pracy i uczynić kierunek studiów bardziej atrakcyjnym. Powiązanie przygotowania teoretycznego i praktycznego studentów tworzy kompleksowe źródło wiedzy i kształtuje umiejętności niezbędnych do pracy w biogazowniach. Zarówno wiedza teoretyczna, jak i umiejętności praktyczne zdobyte przez studentów, wzbogacone o umiejętności analizy zadań, a następnie ich rozwiązania, zapewnią przyszłym absolwentom większe możliwości i lepszą pozycję na rynku pracy.
