Opis:
Risks pertaining to construction work relate to situations in which various events may randomly change the duration and cost of the project or worsen its quality. Because of possible significant changes of random events, favorable, moderate, and difficult conditions of construction work are considered. It is the first stage of the construction risk analysis. The probabilistic parameters of construction are identified and described by using the design characteristics model of the structure and the construction technology model. The first describes the probabilistic properties of the structure execution's technology. The second describes the probabilistic properties of the works execution. Both models contain basic probabilistic data for scheduling, cost estimating, and risk assessment of the construction.
Kwantytatywna metoda identyfikacji ryzyka budowy, którą opisano w artykule, pozwala identyfikować probabilistyczne parametry i charakterystyki ryzyka robót budowlanych na placu budowy. Identyfikowany jest wpływ losowych czynników zakłócających przebieg i wyniki robót. Identyfikowane dane dotyczą ryzyka budowy i stanowią podstawę oceny ryzyka opóźnienia ostatecznego terminu i ryzyka wzrostu całkowitych kosztów zakończenia budowy. Zakłada się, że budowa może być realizowana tylko wtedy, gdy zakłócenia losowe nie uniemożliwiają realizacji budowy zgodnie z dokumentacją projektową i specyfikacją techniczną wykonania i odbioru robót. W tym sensie zakłócające czynniki losowe mogą jedynie opóźniać ostateczny termin i zwiększać całkowite koszty zakończenia budowy. W silnie niestabilnej sytuacji realizacyjnej powinny być identyfikowane pomyślne, przeciętne i niekorzystne warunki budowy.

Opis:
Construction risk assessment is the final and decisive stage of risk analysis. When highly changeable conditions of works execution are predicted, risk should be evaluated in the favorable, moderate, and difficult random conditions of construction. Given the random conditions, the schedule and cost estimate of the construction are developed. Based on these values, the risk of final deadline delay and the risk of total cost increase of construction completion are calculated. Next, the charts of the risks are elaborated. Risk changes are shown in the charts and are analyzed in the range [1, 0].
Realizacja robót budowlanych na placu budowy jest podstawowym etapem przedsięwzięcia budowlanego. W praktyce, z punktu widzenia realizacji robót na placu budowy lub przebudowy, montażu, remontu lub rozbiórki obiektu budowlanego, ryzyko czasu i kosztów często powinno być dokładnie badane ze względu na wpływ zdarzeń losowych na przebieg i wyniki wykonania robót. Jest wiele publikacji na temat metod identyfikacji i oceny ryzyka. Jednak opublikowane metody nie rozwiązują problemów oceny ryzyka, które generowane jest przez proces realizacji robót na placu budowy i jego otoczenie. Proponowana metoda jest koncepcją ilościowej oceny ryzyka robót budowlanych na placu budowy. Jest to końcowy etap analizy ryzyka. Poprzedza go identyfikacja uwarunkowań ryzyka, które zależą od losowej technologicznej charakterystyki konstrukcji, losowej charakterystyki dostępnych zasobów oraz losowych warunków realizacji robót.

Opis:
Risk is an inherent feature of property development projects conducted on the real estate market. Therefore, developers have to be able to manage risk using specific methods. This also refers to the category of logistics risk. In property development business, however, risk needs to be accurately identified before it can be quantified and adequate risk responses can be considered. These issues are addressed in the scientific paper, which aims to outline the risks encountered in the real estate market, with the focus on logistics risk. In particular, it constitutes an attempt to indicate possible applications of the risk management in property development enterprises as a way of supporting logistic activities undertaken by developers in investment processes. In addition to the theoretical deliberations, the findings of the empirical research conducted among the major property developers operating on the Polish market are presented.
Immanentną cechą projektów deweloperskich realizowanych na rynku nieruchomości jest ryzyko. Deweloperzy muszą zatem umieć zarządzać ryzykiem wykorzystując w tym celu określone metody. Dotyczy to również kategorii ryzyka logistycznego. W działalności deweloperskiej zanim jednak ryzyko zostanie skwantyfikowane wymagana jest jego dokładna identyfikacja, co następnie umożliwi właściwą reakcję na ryzyko. Kwestiom tym poświęcony jest niniejszy artykuł naukowy, którego celem jest przedstawienie problematyki identyfikacji ryzyka deweloperskiego ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kategorii ryzyka logistycznego. W szczególności jego celem jest wskazanie możliwości wykorzystania zarządzania ryzykiem w przedsiębiorstwach deweloperskich jako elementu wspomagania realizacji działań logistycznych w procesach inwestycyjnych realizowanych przez deweloperów. Rozważania teoretyczne uzupełniają wyniki badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych wśród największych deweloperów działających na rynku polskim.

Purpose: The publication is empirical in its character. The key purpose of the paper is to outline and discuss the results of the empirical research into risk in construction activities carried out by the surveyed contractors in Poland. The paper focuses, in particular, on the use of methods, techniques and tools by construction enterprises from Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodships to respond to the risks they encounter. Design/methodology/approach: The empirical research was conducted in form of a questionnaire interview. The research tools were developed based on in-depth studies of the scholarly literature (theory-cognitive dimension of the research). The paper also uses the methods of synthesis and deduction. In their discussions the authors draw on their own knowledge and experience which they have acquired over many years spent on researching risks faced by a wide range of organisations. Findings: The presented research findings provide the empirical verification of the theoretical background derived from the literature in the field. Research limitations/implications: The paper presents only the selected results of the empirical studies. These research findings concern specific categories of construction risk, which is regarded as a scientific and research category. Practical implications: The paper presents practical knowledge (utilitarian dimension of science) which has been verified empirically in the conducted research. This knowledge is referred to in the scholarly literature as Construction Risk Management (CRM). Originality/value: The empirical studies present an up-to-date status of the knowledge and awareness as demonstrated by the construction contractors participating in the survey. The research findings are presented for the purpose specified in the paper.

Several empirical studies of the social construction of risk have been conducted within the risk study paradigm but little attention has been paid so far to the flip side of this process, i.e., exclusion of risk from social consciousness by deliberately or involuntarily rendering it invisible, disregarding or marginalising it. This article, based on the concept of risk proposed by Ulrich Beck, Mary Douglas and Aaron Wildavsky and the findings of the sociology of scientific ignorance, introduces the “risk-concealment category.” This category applies to the mechanisms and processes underlying the social definition and construction of risk. It then presents the main functional areas of the mechanisms of risk-concealment in social practice and identifies the basic types of mechanisms which can be found at various stages of social risk definition and which lead to the social construction of the sense of security. The status of this text is projective and the possible paths of further exploration of the subject are outlined. The purpose of this article is to suggest a new research area focusing on the various aspects of risk-concealment and the underlying mechanisms, rules and action strategies. The mechanisms of risk assessment, political-economical risk definition and risk discourse are discussed.

Background. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been recently one of the most common issues discussed in publications related to innovative changes in the management of construction projects. The concept of BIM integrates all the activities related to the design, construction and operation into the ICT model developed and implemented within a communication platform. From the point of view of the project management theory and construction practice, the area of interest is integrated risk and change management based on BIM. Negative consequences such as delays and financial losses that are detrimental especially to public projects conducted by investors raise a question of whether and how implementation of principles of BIM in project management can improve management activities associated with risk in construction projects. Research aims. This paper aims to gain insight into the current state of knowledge about risk and change management in construction projects in terms of BIM implementation, and to set the direction for further research as well as to determine further research objectives related to this issue.Methodology. The arguments presented in this paper are based on the analysis of reference literature. Key findings: Risk is an issue in the concept of BIM that still needs to be systematized. It is necessary to develop an optimal way to integrate procedures, methods and techniques of risk management with other management actions within BIM. Change is perceived as one of the major risk factors and therefore the inclusion of change management processes into this system also requires the establishment of standards and methodical approach within BIM. Further research in this area should include past experience in the implementation of BIM in construction projects, the presence of risk-related procedures in this process and conditions of effective integration of management actions. From a practical point of view, it is also necessary to explore the willingness of entrepreneurs and investors to implement BIM, understood as a platform for communication, risk and change management as well as an optimal method for a systematized implementation of this process.

Referat porusza zagadnienia dotyczące identyfikacji zagrożeń w budownictwie i ich skutków, rozpatrywanych jako elementy analizy ryzyka. Wskazanie czynników ryzyka dla działalności budowlanej jest niezbędne dla podejmowania działań zmierzających do minimalizacji tych zagrożeń. W kontekście rozważań nad ryzykiem nabiera znaczenia rola kontroli przebiegu procesu budowlanego, jako narzędzia do działania na rzecz poprawy bezpieczeństwa w tym obszarze. Skutkiem urzeczywistnienia zagrożeń w procesie budowlanym może być utrata życia lub zdrowia ludzi oraz zniszczenie mienia w wyniku katastrofy budowlanej. Katastrofy budowlane są więc najpoważniejszymi skutkami ryzyka, jakie mogą mieć miejsce w budownictwie.
This paper addresses issues relating to the identification of risks in the construction industry and their consequences, considered as elements of risk analysis. The identification of risk factors in construction activity is essential to enable action to be taken to minimize those risks. In the context of risk considerations, a significant role comes to be played by monitoring and control of the construction process, as a tool for action to improve safety in this area. If potential dangers in the construction process turn into reality, the consequence may be loss of human life or health and the destruction of property as a result of a building disaster. Such disasters are therefore the most serious consequences of risk that can occur in the construction industry.

The article aims to assess risk for substantiating the economic and organizational efficiency of construction in the context of ecologic safety. A quantitative risk estimation was made through the Monte Carlo way for negative and positive choices to avoid ecological harm. The simulation algorithm imitated the distribution obtained from the evidence-based fit. The outcomes of a sensitivity investigation are also prepared to verify the suggestion. This risk analysis technique has a digital computer implementation. The simulation data outputs demonstrate the alternative of the general norm of validation and the acceptance of the solution, which is not harmful to the environment. In situations of uncertainty, the decision to select the optimistic flavor with high spending (to retain the reliability of the technics) but less risk pretends to be a decisive factor in the eco-friendly protection strategies of the construction project.

The construction phase of oil and gas projects (OGPs) is a risky process and project managers face numerous challenges during this particular period. A proper risk analysis and management during the construction phase of the OGPs not only will affect the timely and successful operation of the project as a whole, it can also affect occurrence of risks in subsequent phases and overall economic viability of the project. As a result, via using extensive literature review, this study tries to answer the question of what are main risks involved in construction phase of OGPs and which methods are used for identifying them? The outcome of this research would likely be a valuable source for construction professionals to improve project performance while managing existing risks. It is also useful to avoid common problems that befall many project managers and will assist them to have a better understanding of risk management as part of a project plan.

Przedsięwzięcia budowlane to złożone procesy realizowane w dynamicznych środowiskach. Uchwycenie i zrozumienie ich złożoności wymaga myślenia systemowego, według którego przedsięwzięcie interpretowane jest jako zbiór różnych elementów (zadania, ludzie, maszyny, materiały i wiedza) i relacji między nimi. Klasyczne podejście do analizy ryzyka w przedsięwzięciach budowlanych zaniedbuje ocenę złożoności tych systemów i znaczenia ich emergentnych właściwości, takich jak np. podatność na zagrożenia, zdolność do adaptacji czy w konsekwencji odporność systemowa. Stosowanie koncepcji proaktywnego podejścia w planowaniu przedsięwzięć budowlanych wymaga rozwijania metod ilościowych do modelowania takich systemów i analizy wyżej wymienionych właściwości, które są odpowiedzią systemu na ryzyko.
Construction projects are complex processes carried out in dynamic environments. Grasping and understanding their complexity requires the adoption of systems thinking, in which a project is interpreted as a set of various elements (tasks, people, machines, materials and knowledge) and relations between them. The classical approach to risk analysis in construction projects neglects the assessment of the complexity of these systems and the significance of their emergent properties such as vulnerability to threats, adaptability and, consequently, systemic resilience. Using proactive approaches in construction project planning requires the development of quantitative methods of modeling such systems and analysing their abovementioned properties, which are a given system’s response to risk.

This paper presents two methods of assessment of effectiveness and risk of construction investment projects. There are compared: one of the probabilistic-statistical methods and Monte Carlo simulation method. The comparative analysis was performed on the example of a specific investment which was the high standard hotel-conference centre. The risk assessment of projects,including construction projects, appears to become necessary. Nowadays, in an era of uncertainty resulting from the recent global fi nancial crisis, it is especially important. Methods described in this paper allow estimating the risk and helping potential investor to take appropriate decisions.

Opis:
Badania prowadzone były w przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym. W publikacji omówiono metody badań ryzyka, analizę audytu logistycznego oraz sporządzania na tej podstawie rejestru ryzyka. Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na zagrożenia i niebezpieczeństwa dotyczące procesów logistycznych.
The research was conducted in a manufacturing company. This study has been enriched with the characteristics of risk-testing methods, analysis of the logistic audit and preparation of a risk register on this basis. The aim of the article was to draw attention to the dangers and dangers of logistic processes.
