    A commentary on E. Menar’s essay “Sztuki graficzne. Z okazji odbyć się mającej wystawy grafiki oryginalnej w Borysławiu” that announced Bruno Schulz’s exhibition in Borsyław in March 1921. It is a brief account of the historical development of graphic arts. The author explains the essence and significance of graphics, including woodcut, etching, and lithography. The most attention he paid to the etching which, in his opinion, was the most sophisticated and difficult, allowing the artist to use a variety of materials. One of the most interesting aspects of the essay is the emphasis on the cliché-verre technique, rarely used in Poland but preferred by Schulz. Menar’s essay is of a high quality, perhaps surprising in a paper sponsored by and addressed to oil industry clerks. It seems that the author’s task to attract the reader (both the future spectator and the potential buyer) by an accessible introduction to the graphic arts and its tradition was fully accomplished. However, no information concerning E. Menar has been found and his identity remains unknown.

    En el presente artículo analizo como punto de partida dos poemas: “Una oportunidad”, de Fabián Casas, y “Qué es el mar”, de Sergio Raimondi. Ambos presentan factores en común: hacen foco en una definición del mar; reconocen el tema del mar como algo trillado, gastado o excesivamente concurrido en la tradición poética; proponen, entonces, una definición propia; y, por último, ambos poemas articulan cierto carácter de clausura de la serie, que habilitaba la pregunta sobre cómo escribir otro poema más sobre el mar que no sea una simple repetición de lo ya dicho. Metodológicamente, el concepto deleuziano de cliché y su correspondiente idea de diagrama sirven como punto de partida teórico para repensar esos términos en el terreno de la poesía y modificar la lógica de sus alcances. Para esto, confeccionamos un breve corpus de poesía contemporánea argentina que podría leerse como respuesta a esa problemática de la clausura, como un reinicio o recomienzo de la serie.

    The paper is a comparative study of two poems by Jerzy Ficowski in memory of Bruno Schulz. Cliché-verre [glass printing plate cast] is a special technique used by the author of The Cinnamon Shops in his Booke of Idolatry, unprecedented in the history of Polish graphic art. As an interpretation formula, it enables to track the poetic creation of the figure of Schulz from a disportrait (a negative exposition of his strong absence) to an apocryph (an expressive reconstruction, and, more specifically, re-creation of the artist beginning his artistic journey, presented in a light of a biographical context). The paper discusses the main connections between the works of both authors, philosophical assumptions of the master implemented by Ficowski, analogous mythological constructions, and references to the Jewish Kabbalah focused on the main motif of the Book.

    The article deals with the communicative and pragmatic peculiarities of clichés as regular standardised stereotypical units in the language of the Ukrainian mass media. The pragmatics of clichés is to be found in the process of every day mass communication. Social and linguistic conditions reflect the wide potentialities of cliché usage in mass media discourse. They correspond to the key principles of the mass media’s language which is the well-ordered alternation of standard and expressive language units. Using clichés is based on the fact that an addresser’s linguistic production and an addressee’s comprehension settle the contradiction between our needs in communication and the tendency to minimise our physical and mental efforts. The presupposition of using clichés is considered to be stereotyped knowledge based on the notional connection between the explicit meaning of a standardised formula and the implicit socio- and lingua-cultural experience of the communicants. Explicitly indicating factual information with the help of clichés determines the language strategies of the parties in communication. Using clichés provides an opportunity to manipulate both collective and individual consciousness.

    Opis:
    The paper analyzes publications on refugees in Poland. It presents the conceptual asymmetries and clichés that might hinder the realization of the postulate that the researchers should be the translators of the worldviews of both the refugees and the members of the host society. Three types of asymmetries are being discussed. The first one concerns the unequal regard to the trustworthy and motives of informants. Many authors treat the relations given by the refugees under study as statements on facts, while the relations of other categories of informants as declarations. By the same token, the explaining of the motives of actions in the case of refugees usually takes into account the broad cultural context, while in the case of other categories of research subjects this context is not embodied yet their actions are being evaluated. The second asymmetry pertains to the explanation of the failure of the adaptation processes, which is not matched by a similar one as far as success stories are concerned. Eventually, the third asymmetry consists of differentiated attitudes with regard to the non-governmental organizations and the state agencies. It is often the case that non-governmental organizations are a priori positively evaluated, while state agencies negatively. The paper also considers another often encountered conceptual cliché which describes the centers for refugees as a total institution. The empirical material under analysis shows that these do not fit Erving Goffman's definition of this phenomenon.

    In the article are presented the ambiguous attitudes of Bulgarian intellectuals, writers, historians and scholars in the modern age – after the formation of the contemporary Bulgarian state in the second half of the 19th century. Fluctuations between Serbophobia and Serbophilia, oftenfollowing the twists of Slavophilic politics on the Balkans, vary between complete disregard and unreserved sympathy. Different periods of warm political relations and of cruel “fratricidal” wars took turns in history and imposed a number of clichés in Bulgarian publications, often used for propaganda purposes. The decade of the 1990s, marked by the bloody break up of former Yugoslavia, revived a number of these clichés. The author presents some of them in the article, based on publications in mainstream media.
    Od czasu powstania nowoczesnego państwa bułgarskiego w drugiej połowie XIX wieku stosunek bułgarskich intelektualistów, pisarzy, historyków i naukowców do Serbów był wysoce niejednoznaczny. Ekstrema wahań między serbofobią a serbofilią, często idących w parze z zawirowaniami polityki słowianofilskiej na Bałkanach, sięgały od głębokiej wzgardy do nieopanowanej sympatii. Okresy ocieplenia w stosunkach politycznych przeplatały się z okrutnymi, bratobójczymi wojnami. To wymusiło na autorach publikujących w bułgarskiej prasie, często w celach propagandowych, przyjęcie zestawu stosownych stereotypów. Wiele z nich powróciło w latach dziewięćdziesiątych XX wieku, dekadzie naznaczonej krwawym rozpadem byłej Jugosławii. W artykule autor przedstawia niektóre z nich, opierając się na artykułach, które ukazały się w opiniotwórczych mediach.

    Flaubert undeniably represents a fascinating case with regard to stereotyping, especially if one considers not only his masterpiece, Madame Bovary, but also his last volume, left unfinished in perhaps a symbolic way, Bouvard et Pécuchet, and the collections of clichés included in his Dictionnaire des idées reçues and Le Sottisier. What is prosaic is important for the novelist. Moreover, in his Correspondence we find a real and fascinating interest in the topic of the cliché. A key sentence concerning what is commonplace suggestively describes Charles Bovary’s conversation: “Charles’ conversation was as flat as a pavement, and people’s ideas paraded on it in their ordinary outfit, without vibrating with emotion, with laughter or with daydreaming” (my translation). Essentially, our aim is to dwell on language and gesture stereotypes as presented in some of Flaubert’s novels as well as in the short story Un cœur simple (A Simple Heart) and even in his travel notes. Furthermore, through the agency of Jean-Paul Sartre’s ample work L’Idiot de la famille (The Family Idiot), it is our aim to look into the language mechanisms which lead to mal du siècle in Flaubert’s view, namely the stupidity of wanting a conclusion and the circulation of received ideas.

    In this essay I intend to show how Maupassant turned his short stories into a denouncement area of the ‘inherited ideas’, which mean commonly accepted ideas, such as those included by Flaubert in his Dictionary of inherited ideas. In this part of Maupassant’s literary work, the syntagm ‘inherited ideas’ acquires several different meanings, such as: some commonplace topics of the French bourgeoisie, the hasty taking up of fashionable words, attitudes, or cultural clichés, which one may come across in everyday life, the tendency of accepting as unchallenged some social, moral or religious prejudices, or foolish beliefs and unjust statements, authoritatively uttered by ordinary people. I’ll also emphasize the manner Maupassant treated the ‘inherited ideas’ by his ironical hints and the narrator’s affective implication, in spite of his seeming impassibility.

    In the article the author discusses the mechanisms of the improvement of the human body that were present in the culture in the past ages. The starting points of the discussion are the ancient myths, where the figures of the heroes and hybrids appeared. They were ascribed with the important cultural functions. This situation indicates that the drive toward the improvement of human condition in its somatic dimension has existed in the culture since its beginnings. In the article, as the first ones, the mechanisms improving the body in the archaic cultures were presented, and only later the author makes the way for the analogical phenomena present in the contemporary cultures. While elaborating the modern literature, the author juxtaposes the texts that belong to speculative scifi and to the mythopoietic fantasy with the theoretical and futurological works that concern the problems of posthumanism and transhumanism. In this kind of perspective the theoretico-speculative aspects of posthumanism were described, then their literary realizations were presented, and finally the cultural consequences followed.
    Autor omawia w niniejszym artykule mechanizmy polepszania ludzkiego ciała obecne w kulturze na przestrzeni wieków. Punktem wyjścia się mity świata starożytnego, w których pojawiały się figury herosów oraz hybryd, którym przypisywano ważne funkcje kulturowe. Wskazuje to wyraźnie fakt, że pragnienie udoskonalenia ludzkiej kondycji w jej wymiarze somatycznym istniało w kulturze już u zarania dziejów. Po prezentacji mechanizmów ulepszających ciało w kulturach archaicznych zaprezentowane zostały analogiczne zjawiska obecne w czasach kultury nowożytnej. Przy omawianiu literatury najnowszej Autor zestawił ze sobą teksty SF spekulacyjnej oraz mythopoeicznej fantasy z pracami teoretycznymi i futurologicznymi dotyczącymi zagadnień posthumanizmu i transhumanizmu. W tak zarysowanej perspektywie omówione zostały najpierw aspekty teoretyczno-spekulacyjne posthumanizmu, następnie ich realizacje literackie a na samym końcu konsekwencje kulturowe

    Popular literature online is often misconstrued as being cliché-ridden and formulaic, and has thus not attained as much critical attention as ‘serious’ literature. I propound that popular literature published in China’s cyberspace deserves more attention and hermeneutic scrutiny, and I place an emphasis on danmei (耽美) fiction that features male-male romantic and/or erotic relationships and is predominantly published on a female-oriented website called Jinjiang Literature City. In this research, I investigate an online danmei novel entitled Tianguan ci fu (天官赐福) that concerns a homosexual romance against a background of ‘immortality cultivation’ (xiuxian 修仙 or xiuzhen 修真), which had been maintaining the highest ranking on readers’ voting list since its release on Jinjiang Literature City in 2017. I postulate that Tianguan ci fu does not deploy clichéd plots pertaining to quasi-heterosexual relationships, which frequently occur in danmei fiction. Apart from conveying the theme of love, the narrative concerns the complexity of human nature via an array of characters possessing multifaceted personality traits. More significantly, with a setting of mortal and immortal realms, the narrative entails religious ideologies, especially the indigenous Daoist ascension, mortality-immorality polarity and yin-yang integration. Furthermore, ethic-religious Confucian precepts such as benevolence and filial piety are also demonstrated, along with the Sinicised Buddhist creeds of reincarnation and retribution, which embodies the amalgamation of (sub)religions as a preponderant ideal of ‘the unity of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism’ (san jiao he yi 三教合一). Therefore, analysing this exemplary online novel can shed light on (a)theistic attitudes adopted by creators and consumers of Internet danmei literature.

Najpierw przeprowadzono analizę dokumentów prawnych Unii Europejskiej dotyczących redukcji dwutlenku węgla, co ściśle wiąże się z produkcją energii. Następnie opracowano model postrzegania energii jądrowej godzący wyzwania ekologiczne z rosnącymi potrzebami energetycznymi. W ramach tego modelu omówiono wypowiedzi kandydatów poruszające ten temat. W analizie zebranych przypadków wykorzystano narzędzia kognitywistyki, semiotyki oraz retoryki. Pozwoliły one ukazać typowe konceptualizacje energetyki jądrowej, w tym m.in. cliché oraz sprzeczne z faktami schematy myślowe obecne w dyskursie aktorów politycznych.
    The article shows the medial image of nuclear energy presented by presidential candidates in the 2020 polish election. In the frames of rational model of nuclear power candidates’ statements on this topic were discussed. For the purposes of this paper were used cognitivist, semiotic and rhetoric tools which allow to appear typical conceptualizations of nuclear power.

    The aim of this article is to examine the stereotypy in Balzac’s novel Cousin Bette, by relying on the scene of a famous confrontation between Célestin Crevel and his metaphysical opposite – Baroness Hulot d’Ervy. José-Luis Diaz underlines that the Balzacian stereotype imposes itself as the imitation of the social norm and all kinds of linguistic, sartorial, behavioral automatisms etc. His research justifies the use of the concept of stereotype in relation to Balzac’s creation, especially because the nineteenth century only knows its meaning in printing. Thanks to the notion of stereotype, we can question on its influence on the behavior of the protagonists. We are also able to identify the character of the social norm of the time and its regulatory mechanisms. On the one hand, the excessively fixed language, like the cliché, allows the writer to imitate the material preoccupations of the bourgeoisie under the July Monarchy by forging, in the reader’s mind, his negative image. On the other hand, this analysis shows that the protagonist’s expression goes beyond linguistic mimicry. The stereotype allows a certain stylistic originality by which the protagonists give the reader a look into their belief systems. In this sense, the stereotype is a mechanism of regulation : it complicates the characters, creates an impression of reality. Finally, this stylistic enity capture the reader’s attention with logically permissible ideas that are morally unacceptable.

    The article deals with the problem of meaning of a poetic text of economic, lapidary form devoid of linguistic metaphors, where the construction of expression directly reaches the sense. The style of ostensible redundancy is functional in analytical sentences and repetitions, which is connected with the title Chwila. The intention of stopping the time is expressed by the excess of text form, whose function is global meaning. In the analyzed poetry, the meaning is formed by the style; there is not a subject of description in an ontological sense. The elements of the represented world are incompatible and involve a number of choices or options. The meaning lies beyond the scope of reference of text elements. In Szymborska’s poetry, the meaning is not independent. It is not that she chooses appropriate means of expression for already prepared content; for example, when a lofty style is adapted to serious content, or trivial things are spoken playfully about. In Szymborska’s poetry, it is the other way round; a joke, a witticism is the material of her poetry, but the content is serious and concerns the fundamental problems of existence. The lack of loftiness is balanced by omnipresent irony, and the genius of this poetry is underlain by the simplicity and subtlety of medium, the brilliance of expressions and amazing grammar and style as far as linguistics is concerned.
