Opis:: Malfunctions in equipment and components are often sources of reduced productivity and increased maintenance costs in various industrial applications. For this reason, machine condition monitoring is being pursued to recognize incipient faults in the strive towards optimising maintenance and productivity. In this respect, the following lecture notes provide the basic concepts underlying some methodologies of soft computing, namely neural networks, fuzzy logic systems and genetic algorithms, which offer great potential for application to condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for maintenance optimisation. The exposition is purposely kept on a somewhat intuitive basis: the interested reader can refer to the copious literature for further technical details.

Opis:: This paper analyzes the behaviour of a fuzzy expert system for evaluating the dependence among successive operator actions, through a sensitivity analysis on the fuzzy input partitioning and assessment. Preliminary results are presented with respect to a case study concerning two successive tasks of an emergency procedure in a nuclear reactor. Work is in progress to perform a thorough sensitivity analysis to generalize the results obtained.

Opis:: A dynamic approach to the reliability analysis of realistic systems is likely to increase the computational burden, due to the need of integrating the dynamics with the system stochastic evolution. Hence, fast-running models of process evolution are sought. In this respect, empirical modelling is becoming a popular approach to system dynamics simulation since it allows identifying the underlying dynamic model by fitting system operational data through a procedure often referred to as ‘learning’. In this paper, a Locally Recurrent Neural Network (LRNN) trained according to a Recursive Back-Propagation (RBP) algorithm is investigated as an efficient tool for fast dynamic simulation. An application is performed with respect to the simulation of the non-linear dynamics of a nuclear reactor, as described by a simplified model of literature.

Opis:: Efficient diagnosis and prognosis of system faults depend on the ability to estimate the system state on the basis of noisy measurements of the system dynamic variables and parameters. The system dynamics is typically characterized by transitions among discrete modes of operation, each one giving rise to a specific continuous dynamics of evolution. The estimation of the state of these hybrid dynamic systems is a particularly challenging task because it requires keeping track of the transitions among the multiple modes of system dynamics corresponding to the different modes of operation. In this paper a Monte Carlo estimation method is illustrated with an application to a case study of literature which consists of a tank filled with liquid, whose level is autonomously maintained between two thresholds. The system behavior is controlled by discrete mode actuators, whose states are estimated by a Monte Carlo-based particle filter on the basis of noisy level and temperature measurements.

Opis:: The results of two applications of multi-objective genetic algorithms to the analysis and optimization of electrical transmission networks are reported to show the potential of these combinational optimization schemes in the treatment of highly interconnected, complex systems. In a first case study, an analysis of the topological structure of an electrical power transmission system of literature is carried out to identify the most important groups of elements of different sizes in the network. The importance is quantified in terms of group closeness centrality. In the second case study, an optimization method is developed for identifying strategies of expansion of an electrical transmission network by addition of new lines of connection. The objective is that of improving the transmission reliability, while maintaining the investment cost limited.

Opis:: Disposal facilities for radioactive wastes comprise a series of engineered barriers whose purpose is to contain the radionuclides until their radiation hazard has decreased to acceptable levels. In this regard, it is required that the long-term functionality of the system of barriers be evaluated by a quantitative risk analysis procedure, also called performance assessment. In this paper, a Monte Carlo simulation-based reliability model is propounded for the preliminary analysis of the safety performance of a radioactive waste repository, accounting also for barrier degradation processes. The model strengths are: simplicity, chich allows ease of computation, and flexibility, which allows modification to account for various physical aspects and inter-comparison of their effects. An application to a case study of literature is presented to validate the approach and demonstrate its flexibility.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to develop new methods of analysis, estimation and optimal selection of quantitative resources (inherent and non-inherent) in the planning of the product effect for specific environmental conditions. The required iterative approach in the construction of the mathematical model and analysis of its possible practical applications and search for how to figure those opportunities. As the testing method has been applied method intuitive, allowing you to use the experience of expert analysis from ongoing opportunities to make full use of the sustainability properties and customize to their processes. The results were presented in the form of mathematical models in the collection of complex numbers and graphically on the plane of complex numbers. Method to estimate changes inherent and non-inherent resources objects (machines, systems, organizations) on their productivity (Po). The method uses the original, innovative, model potential workspace object (PrO) in the form of a complex binding numerically inherent (ZiO) and non-inherent (ZniO) resources objects. Evaluation of value Po it was proposed with the PrO. The values of the ZiO and ZniO was adopted as two independent resources constituting the whole of resources in the required in the production (or in the service). Method evaluation Po illustrates for the resources object described model Ro =│PrO = f (ZpO, ZoO)│, where ZiO is a work resource (ZpO), ZniO is extracted from the operation of the resource service (ZoO), and the generating capacity of the object Po is described using a pointer named R object (Ro). Illustrated in the complex plane analysis results and the results obtained from the calculation PrO and Ro, for contract values of the ZpO and ZoO, indicate the application capabilities developed method. Method allows a very clear description of the productivity changes objects (or processes, or production organization), in the context of the selection of manufacturing resource structure, through the separation of the factors causing these changes. Method can be adapted for optimal production costs (or services) through design changes object and/or design changes of the process exploitation. Developed the method brings new opportunities for theoretical and application in relation technical and economic sciences.
Celem artykułu jest opracowanie nowej metody analizy, szacowania i optymalnego doboru ilościowego zasobów (inherentnych i nieinherentnych) w planowaniu efektu produktowego w określonych warunkach środowiskowych. Realizacja celu wymagała iteracyjnego podejścia przy budowie modelu matematycznego i analizie możliwych jego zastosowań praktycznych oraz poszukiwaniu sposobu ilustracji tych możliwości. Jako metoda badawcza została zastosowana metoda intuicyjna, pozwalająca wykorzystać doświadczenie eksperckie z realizowanych analiz możliwości pełnego wykorzystania trwałości obiektów i dostosowywania do tego ich procesów eksploatacji. Wyniki zostały zaprezentowane w postaci modeli matematycznych w zbiorze liczb zespolonych i graficznie na płaszczyźnie liczb zespolonych. Metoda umożliwia szacowanie zmian inherentnych i nieinherentnych zasobów obiektów (maszyn, systemów, organizacji) na ich produktywność (Po). W metodzie wykorzystano autorski, innowacyjny, model potencjału roboczego obiektu (PrO) w postaci liczby zespolonej wiążącej liczbowo inherentne (ZiO) i nieinherentne (ZniO) zasoby obiektu. Wyznaczanie wartości Po zaproponowano z modułu PrO. Wartości ZiO i ZniO przyjęto jako dwa niezależne od siebie zasoby stanowiące całość zasobów w realizacji danej produkcji lub usługi. Metodę oceny Po zilustrowano dla zasobów obiektu opisanych modelem Ro =│PrO = f (ZpO, ZoO)│, gdzie ZiO to zasób pracy obiektu (ZpO), ZniO to wyodrębniony z eksploatacji zasób obsług (ZoO), a zdolności wytwórcze obiektu Po opisano za pomocą wskaźnika nazwanego resursem obiektu (Ro). Zilustrowane na płaszczyźnie zespolonej wyniki analiz i uzyskane wyniki z obliczeń PrO i Ro, dla umownych wartości ZpO i ZoO, wskazują na duże możliwości aplikacyjne opracowanej metody. Metoda umożliwia bardzo czytelny opis zmian produktywności obiektów\procesów\ organizacji, w kontekście doboru struktury zasobów wytwórczych, poprzez rozdzielenie czynników powodujących te zmiany. Metodę można adaptować na potrzeby optymalizacji kosztów produkcji\usług poprzez zmiany projektowe obiektu technicznego i\lub zmiany projektowe procesu jego eksploatacji. Opracowana metoda wnosi nowe możliwości teoretyczne oraz aplikacyjne w powiązaniu nauk technicznych i ekonomicznych.

Opis:: Fatigue crack propagation affects the operational reliability of engine turbo-fan blades. In this article, we integrate a Kriging regression model and a distributed collaborative response surface method (DCRSM) for the reliability assessment of turbo-fan blades, considering the relevant uncertainty. Following a series of deterministic analyses, such as steady-state aerodynamic analysis, harmonic response analysis and Campbell diagram, and based on the assumption that vibration stress is mainly from aerodynamic load, the fatigue strength is calculated for turbo-fan blades under coupling aerodynamic forces, according to a modified Goodman curve of titanium-alloy. Giving consideration to the uncertainty of the resonance frequencies and material properties, the fatigue strength of the turbo-fan blade is evaluated, including probabilistic analysis and sensitivity analysis. In the case study analyzed, the conclusions are that the fatigue strength reliability reaches 96.808% with confidence level of 0.95 for the turbo-fan blade under the coupling aerodynamic forces, and the first three-order resonant frequencies are found to have important influence on the fatigue performance of turbo-fan blades.
Propagacja pęknięć zmęczeniowych wpływa na niezawodność pracy łopatek turbowentylatora w silnikach samolotowych. W przedstawionej pracy, niezawodność łopatek turbo-wentylatora oceniano za pomocą techniki która łączy rozproszoną metodę powierzchni odpowiedzi (ang. distributed collaborative response surface method, DCRSM) z krigingiem, z jednoczesnym uwzględnieniem niepewności. Po przeprowadzeniu serii analiz deterministycznych, w tym analizy aerodynamicznej w stanie ustalonym, analizy harmonicznej i wyznaczeniu wykresu Campbella, oraz przyjmując założenie, że naprężenia wibracyjne powstają głównie na skutek obciążeń aerodynamicznych, obliczono wytrzymałość zmęczeniową łopatek turbowentylatora w warunkach sprzęgających sił aerodynamicznych, zgodnie ze zmodyfikowaną krzywą Goodmana dla stopu tytanu. Biorąc pod uwagę niepewność częstotliwości rezonansowych i właściwości materiału, wytrzymałość zmęczeniową łopatki turbowentylatora określano na podstawie analizy probabilistycznej i analizy czułości. W omawianym studium przypadku wykazano, że niezawodność wytrzymałości zmęczeniowej łopatki turbowentylatora w warunkach sprzęgających sił aerodynamicznych sięga 96,808% przy poziomie ufności 0,95, a trzy pierwsze postacie drgań rezonansowych mają istotny wpływ na jej wydajność zmęczeniową.

Opis:: This article presents a model of performance analysis for a truck fleet system in an openpit mine, considering special characteristics of haul fleets. In these systems, the expected availability of each piece of equipment and its operating capacity are the fundamental variables to construct a global fleet performance function. Our analytical algorithm considers heterogeneous fleets with known individual characteristics of transport capacity and failure and repair behavior. The results converge to a new indicator denominated “Equivalent Availability” (EA), which arises from the need to evaluate the capacity of the truck fleet to operate at a lower payload than required using different combinations of equipment to achieve an availability goal. EA is a key indicator to determine the productive capacity of a process, and for selecting equipment and their combinations to achieve production objectives. To exemplify the potentialities of the EA, a case study is implemented in a Chilean copper truck fleet mining process.

Opis:: In this paper, recently introduced topological measures of interconnection and efficiency of network systems are applied to the safety analysis of the road transport system of the Province of Piacenza in Italy. The vulnerability of the network is evaluated with respect to the loss of a road link, e.g. due to a car accident, road work or other jamming occurrences. Eventually, the improvement in the global and local safety indicators following the implementation of a road development plan is evaluated.
