The article presents the problem of objectification of Chinese women from the past to the present times. Objectification of women in China can be regarded as a total phenomenon since it regarded control over feminine bodies, will and spirit. From birth, women were strictly controlled and socialised accordingly. According to Confucian principles men were also supposed to show subordination to their fathers, superiors and rulers, however, looking from a historical perspective, it is clear that subordination of women permeated patriarchal Chinese society so deeply, that it took the form of objectification that influenced traditions, customs and mentality of the inhabitants of the Middle Kingdom.

This article was written based on a larger, their own studies that were conducted in 2009 among the 52 homeless women in podkarpackie voivodship. People were matched in terms of age, place of residence during the research and occasional or permanent residence in the hostel. Using autobiographical narrative interview, which is a particular form of free or deep interview. The text attempts to show the opinion of homeless women on their own. It shows the reasons for homelessness women in their opinions and their own characteristics.

The article offers an analysis of women’s Lager narratives in which the procedure of removing hair from female prisoners of concentration camps was reflected. It indicates the procedure’s cultural, social, and psychological meanings presenting it as an element of the extensive camp strategy of violence, a ritual of downgrading, and a form of violating a woman’s identity and intimacy. By presenting various circumstances in which women were shaved in the camps, it also indicates the situation-based complexity of the camp experience, its various stages, and contexts. The text refers to various sources, and considers the experiences of women of various nationalities, e.g. Germans, Poles, and Jews.

The article is concerned with the works of Polish female comic book artists. I advance the thesis that in their artistic work harbours autobiographical elements which constitute an important element of the whole. I begin the article by clarifying certain notions, namely women's, feminist and autobiography as they may be ambiguously construed. Also, the works in which such autobiographical themes are present are divided into three focus groups: 1. Revisionist representation of history, 2. Emotions, sex life, motherhood, 3. Midrash, a Polish social and cultural profile magazine (published since April 1997), is a monthly journal that is a representative of the so-called ‘minor press’. The magazine is connected with the Midrash Library publishing house. Its founder was Konstanty Gebert and the current editor is Piotr Paziński. The articles of Midrash magazine give answers to such questions as: How are women described and treated in modern patriarchal Judaism culture? In what context is it possible to talk about issues connected with women and Zionism. Midrash magazine also deals with a positive interpretation and presentation of women via the multitude of interviews and articles concerning strong, talented, and determined women. Despite their hard lives these women were and are able to create successful careers and wonderful families. Their voices are an important element in discussions that refer to culture, faith, and historical heritage. The image of the woman as presented by Midrash will be confronted with the cultural recognition of the woman in the Jewish community. This article will use quantitative analysis (the linguistic method and literature studies) with help from the qualitative case study research method.

Gender equality is one of the main priorities of any democratic society. The developed world has long agreed that the participation of women in politics is a key condition for democratic development of the country. No country can ensure fair and equal-opportunity policy without the participation of women. It will take decades for women to naturally secure equal political participation. Therefore, in order to speed progress and to address inequalities, in 2020, after much resistance and disagreements, the statutory gender quota was adopted by the Georgian Parliament. The purpose of this study is to examine the current situation regarding women’s participation in Georgian political life, to identify factors that have led to the implementation of the statutory gender quota, to access the efficiency of the state policies to increase women’s representation in political institutions and also to assess how incentive mechanisms devised in previous years have increased women’s representation in Georgian political life. The aim of the paper is to identify the main reasons that hinder women’s political involvement in Georgia. In the long term, it is necessary to maintain and increase the current gender quota to ensure equal representation.

Matching the ever-increasing numbers of female participants in the commercial venues of department stores and cinemas in the 1920s, modernist women writers enjoyed a new visibility in the intellectual world of cinema journalism. Yet cinema modernism, like literary modernism, was veined by masculinity in the 1920s. The paper argues that modernist women writers, including Colette, H.D., Dorothy Richardson, and Virginia Woolf, created a feminist standpoint. By replacing the prescriptive male gaze with a feminist aesthetics: identifying with stars and women viewers and by describing audiences as socially constituted and gendered.

This paper considers the important role of developmental programs designed and run specifically for women, not as the only training offer recommended for them but as an addition to other leadership courses. The author examines first companies engagement in the idea of promoting women leadership and their strategies of achieving tangible effects in this matter. Based on a survey, the author checks whether female employees in Poland are provided with women‑dedicated leadership programs and whether the newest scien‑ tific findings on the benefits of women‑dedicated programs are considered by companies when they plan development paths for women‑employees. At the end the author inves‑ tigates on attractiveness of the idea of women‑dedicated leadership programs for female employees in Poland and what kind of benefits they would expect from participating in such programs.

Summaryfor centuries the role of women been associated in particular with the role of wife and mother who is takes care of the home fire. Times have changed, lifestyle and economic realities meant that women began to work, and not, as previously only deal with raising children. Despite these changes, it is still a woman is most often shown as the one who takes care of the children and the house. For centuries, technology has changed, which does the work to some extent in domestic work, but if it allows to reconcile the two worlds: the world of a woman who is a mother and wife with the world of women valuable worker or boss? Is the world today there is a chance that these two worlds are really close and possible to reconcile. The following article is an attempt to present the situation of women in today's economic environment, as people who wish to accept the role of mother to the role of a valuable employee or the role of the boss. It is merely an attempt to show the problem, which will be treated as a beginning for future research.

This paper aims to analyse the employment of women in banking during the Second Polish Republic (i.e. interwar Poland). The banking sector was small in terms of employment. The number of people associated with this sector was 18.1 thousand in 1921 and 31.2 thousand in 1931, which accounted for 0.5-0.6% of all professionally active workers outside the agricultural sector. The banking community was dominated by men, the number of women working in banks was about 6.1 thousand in 1921 and 8.5 thousand in 1931 (30% of all human resources). This paper presents the nature of jobs performed by women, their positions and earnings. The presentation takes a number of forms: according to bank types, groups of voivodeships, size of the town and according to headquarters and branches. In all cases, the activities and earnings of women and men were compared.

Artykuł dotyczy roli kobiet jako pracowników przedsiębiorstw świadczących usługi w miejskim transporcie publicznym. Temat jest znaczący nie tylko z powodu nierównego traktowania kobiet. Aktualnym problemem sektora są kłopoty kadrowe, wynikające z ograniczonego obecnie zainteresowania mężczyzn pracą w branży, w tym na kluczowych stanowiskach (zarządzanie, obsługa klientów i prowadzenie pojazdów), na których kobiety się sprawdzają. Dokonano przeglądu sytuacji w Polsce i krajach Unii Europejskiej. Przedstawiono skrótowo wyniki dofinansowywanych przez UE projektów/badań WISE I i WISE II oraz informacje o działaniach innych podmiotów. W ostatnich latach w polityce unijnej oraz organizacji takich jak UITP i związki zawodowe podjęto wiele działań promujących i wspierających zatrudnienie kobiet w transporcie miejskim. Tematem związanym z rolą kobiet jest bezpieczeństwo ruchu drogowego. Wyniki badań dowodzą, że jedną z korzyści zatrudniania kobiet na stanowiskach kierowców autobusów i motorniczych jest zredukowane ryzyko powodowania wypadków. Nie oznacza to ograniczenia działań do tej grupy zawodowej. W wielu przedsiębiorstwach rośnie udział kobiet na stanowiskach kierowniczych. Jako czynniki wpływające pozytywnie na wzrost zainteresowania kobiet pracą w miejskim transporcie zbiorowym wymieniane są: umiejętność pogodzenia pracy i życia rodzinnego/ społecznego, zdrowie i bezpieczeństwo w miejscu pracy, kultura pracy, wynagrodzenie, perspektywy awansu i podnoszenia kwalifikacji.
The article presents the role of women working in urban public transport companies. The topic is important not only because of unequal treatment of men and women in the sector. The current issue of the sector is the human resources problem, resulting from the currently limited interest of men in working in transport services including the key positions (management, customer service and driving) where women prove their quality and effectiveness. The current state in Polish companies and in other EU countries has been described . Among others, the findings of projects co-financed by the EU, such as WISE and WISEII have been described. Actions, taken by other organizations such as UITP and work associations, supporting and promoting of women employment in public transport sector have been discussed as well. Traffic safety is one of aspects taken into account. Research results show that one of the benefits of employing women as bus and motorists is a reduced risk of causing accidents. It does not mean that actions encouraging women to work in public transport are to be limited to attract them to this profession . In many companies the share of women on director/ manager position is growing. Aspects increasing attractiveness of women work in public transport companies that have been identified: ability to reconcile work and family/social life, especially concerning work organization, better workplace safety and security, culture of work, elimination of sector-based wage gap between women and men, remuneration, promotion and qualification prospects (vocational training).

The article discusses the changes in models of women’s role including the period of actual socialism and new socio-systematic reality after 1989. The main aim is to prove that discrimination of women in the public sphere is generated by cultural factors, among which the traditional model appears to be the most powerful. The author presents the evolution of said model as a continuum constructed specifically for this very purpose. The continuum takes the form of a trichotomy: traditional model – modernized model – contemporary model. By extracting features most typical for each of the models mentioned she attempts to show that they coexist and form diverse configurations and their common feature is a slow departure from tradition limiting women’s activity to private sphere and approach in the direction of modernity and full participation in public sphere. Professional activisation, civil activity and participation in politics become the examples of modernity.

The article concerns social functioning of women with Turner syndrome, focusing particularly on their family life (relations with parents, siblings, partner and children), and relations with others (friends, acquaintances, workmates and members of TS support organizations). The author also tries to find correlations between growth hormone treatment, sex hormones treatment, age of TS diagnosis, karyotype and social functioning of TS women. Turner Syndrome is a quite common (1 in every 2500 live female births) human genetic disorder which affects only females. Females with TS lack all or part of one of two sex X chromosomes. The phenotype of TS women includes short stature and ovarian failure (which usually causes infertility) specific anatomic abnormalities (such as a short neck with a webbed appearance, a low hairline at the back of the neck, and low-set ears) and characteristic neurocognitive profile, which usually does not include mental retardation. The treatment of TS girls includes growth hormone and sex hormones therapy. 71 women took part in the study (30 from Poland and 41 from other countries – USA, Australia and United Kingdom). Researches indicated that generally women with TS showed relatively good functioning in relations in family of origin (with parents and siblings) and in social environment (quite high professional activity, good functioning in relations with friends and acquaintances). Relations with parents, especially with mothers, were usually very close, but often revealed overprotective parents’ attitude towards TS women (even in their adult life). Relations with fathers were slightly worse, more often revealing lack of fathers’ acceptance towards TS women. Relations with siblings were rather close, but again revealed overprotective siblings’ attitude towards TS sisters. Researches also revealed relatively weak functioning of TS women in relations in family of procreation (with partner and children).

Opracowanie ma charakter kryminologiczny . Przedstawia fenomen przestępczości kobiet w Rosji od początku lat 90. XX w. do współczesności. Omawia strukturę, dynamikę i przejawy nielegalnej aktywności kobiet. Prezentuje jej społeczno-ekonomiczne, kulturowe, psychologiczne i organizacyjnoprawne przyczyny. Wskazuje sposoby przeciwdziałania zjawisku zarówno przez państwo, jak i społeczeństwo.
The paper tackles the problem of criminology . The Author presents the phenomenon of women’s crime in Russia from 1990 till today. The structure of this kind of crime and its dynamics are also introduced . In addition, the Author focuses on its socio-economic, cultural and psychological as well as legal motives. Various ways of counteracting the women’s crime by both the government and society are also presented.

When considering the issues related to the fight for women’s political it is not possible to disregard some of the most important factors determining the level of women’s participation in political life. As regards scientific discussion on the presence of women in government roles, the most frequently cited reason contributing to lesser representation of women are biological, social, ideological, structural, cultural, religious and economic factors. 100 years have passed and women, who account for slightly more than a half of the Polish society, still have too low representation in the parliament, in many cases their salaries are lower than those of men at similar positions, they play specific social and professional roles assigned on the grounds of sex, and still some people try to marginalize them professionally and deprive of their freedoms. The aim of this text is to analyze premises for the establishing of the Association of Congress of Women and results achieved over the past ten years. The main objectives adopted for purpose of the text include the verification of demands set by the Association and their implementation, and the analysis of its activity in terms of socio-political changes. Content analysis was used as the method.
Rozważając kwestie związane z walką o prawa polityczne dla kobiet, nie można lekceważyć niektórych najważniejszych czynników, decydujących o poziomie uczestnictwa kobiet w życiu politycznym. Jeśli chodzi o dyskusję naukową na temat obecności kobiet w szeroko rozumianej polityce, najczęściej przywoływanymi faktorami wpływającymi na ten stan rzeczy są czynniki biologiczne, społeczne, ideologiczne, strukturalne, kulturowe, religijne czy ekonomiczne. Minęło 100 lat, a Polki, mimo iż stanowią nieco ponad połowę polskiego społeczeństwa, nadal mają niezbyt wielką reprezentację w parlamencie, w biznesie w wielu przypadkach ich pensje są niższe niż mężczyzn na podobnych stanowiskach, a rola kobiety w przestrzeni publicznej – ze szczególnym naciskiem na sferę polityczną – jest nadal niższa niż rola mężczyzny. Celem niniejszego tekstu jest analiza przesłanek utworzenia i funkcjonowania Kongresu Kobiet Polskich w ciągu ostatnich dziesięciu lat.

W artykule skupię się na tym, jak w „Tygodniku Mód i Powieści” przedstawiano Amerykanki i ich walkę o równouprawnienie. Przeanalizuję artykuły zamieszczone w nim w latach 1860–1915, czyli od przejęcia pisma przez Jana Kantego Gregorowicza do końca jego istnienia. W drugiej połowie XIX w. prasa coraz częściej pisała o kobietach i sprawach im bliskich. Miało to niewątpliwie związek ze wzrostem ich aktywności i rozwojem ruchu emancypacyjnego. Amerykanki odegrały pod tym względem niebagatelną rolę, walcząc o przyznanie im praw w różnych sferach życia. Kwestia równouprawnienia była aktualna również na ziemiach polskich. Ówcześni publicyści dostrzegali potrzebę edukacji kobiet, a szczególnie praktycznego ich kształcenia oraz konieczność podjęcia przez nie pracy zawodowej. W „Tygodniku Mód i Powieści” zamieszczono wybiórcze informacje o: rozwoju ruchu kobiecego w USA, walce Amerykanek o przyznanie im praw politycznych, edukacji kobiet, podejmowaniu przez nie pracy w zawodach zarezerwowanych wcześniej dla mężczyzn oraz zaangażowaniu w tworzenie klubów kobiecych. Wiele amerykańskich inicjatyw nie spotkało się z aprobatą redaktorów tygodnika. Wielokrotnie postulowali oni o nieprzenoszenie ich na grunt polski, chociaż dostrzegano potrzebę zmian i ustępstw w niektórych dziedzinach życia.
In the article, I will focus on the question how American women and their struggle for gender equality were presented in “Tygodnik Mód i Powieści” [“Weekly of Fashion and Novels”]. I will analyse articles posted to the magazine in the years 1860–1915, i.e. since its takeover by Gregorowicz until the end of its existence. In the second half of the 19th century, the press more and more frequently wrote about women and the issues concerning them. This was undoubtedly related to the increase in women’s activity and the development of the emancipation movement. American women, fighting for their rights in various spheres of life, played a significant role in this respect. The issue of gender equality was also valid in Poland. Contemporary publicists noticed the need of women's education, especially – practical education and the necessity of taking up professional work by women. “Tygodnik Mód i Powieści” selectively informed about: the development of women’s movement in the USA, American women’s fight for political rights, women’s education, taking up jobs in professions previously reserved for men and involvement in creating women’s clubs. Many American initiatives were not approved by the weekly’s editors, who insisted that they should not be transferred to Poland. Yet, the need for changes and concessions in some areas of life was recognized.

The promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment has been a goal of the United Nations Organization and its specialized agencies, within each one's particular scope of competencies. The World Maritime University (WMU), a postgraduate maritime university founded by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has put in place its own policies to promote the participation of women in the maritime transport sector. The main idea behind this case study analysis is to look at how WMU's policies on gender equality and women's empowerment have evolved over time; their impact on student and employee body, curriculum, conferences and seminars; and propose areas for improvement. This research is aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of an ongoing process by exploring enrolment and hiring statistics, documents and related articles over a period of 34 years (from 1983 to 2017).

Referring to critical statements that have appeared during the last few years, the author discusses ways of commenting on popular literature penned byfemale authors. One may distinguish five types of comments, 1) Appropriation (Aneksja), employed when a popular novel is included in the socially important literature referring to pressing and alarming problems (e.g. domestic violence). 2) Playing with convention (Gra z konwencją), based on pinpointing both grotesque and ironic elements and, above all, metaliterary signals in popular novels. 3) Adherence to tradition (Zgodnie z tradycją), best represented in the secondary literature, either through a poetologic approach (structural analyses) or approaches inspired by feminist criticism. 4) Exhortation to pay close attention (Dobrze się wschłuchać), focused on the approaches suggested by other fields, e.g. how popular women’s literature is read by sociologists. 5) Focus on emotions and excess (Emocje i zbytek), based on emotional and therapeutic research on the perception styles of popular literature. In this case, one focuses not on popular women’s fiction, but on the way it influences the readers’ emotions.
