In this study, the species identifications of seven Ephedra plants, including three medicinal plants from the Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China, were conducted using phylogenetic analyses, and the method’s validity was verified. The phylogenetic trees constructed from the maturase-coding gene (matK) and internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) sequences showed that the former could be used for identifying five Ephedra plants, Ephedra intermedia, E. equisetina, E. antisyphilitica, E. major, and E. aphylla, but it had less power to discriminate E. sinica and E. przewalskii, while the latter could distinguish five Ephedra plants, E. przewalskii, E. equisetina, E. antisyphilitica, E. major, and E. aphylla, but it had less power to discriminate E. sinica and E. intermedia. However, when the two genes were combined, the seven species could be completely distinguished from each other, especially the medicinal plants from the others, which is significant in developing their pharmaceutical uses and in performing quality control assessments of herbal medicines. The method presented here could be applied to the analysis of processed Ephedra plants and to the identification of the botanical origins of crude drugs. Additionally, we discovered that E. equisetina and E. major were probably closely related to each other, and that E. sinica, E. intermedia, and E. przewalskii also had a close genetic relationship.

Introduction. The airborne transmission of infectious diseases in livestock production is increasingly receiving research attention. Reliable techniques of air sampling are crucial to underpin the findings of such studies. This study evaluated the physical and biological efficiencies and detection limits of four samplers (Andersen 6-stage impactor, all-glass impinger “AGI-30”, OMNI-3000 and MD8 with gelatin filter) for collecting aerosols of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). Materials and Method. IBDV aerosols mixed with a physical tracer (uranine) were generated in an isolator, and then collected by the bioaerosol samplers. Samplers’ physical and biological efficiencies were derived based on the tracer concentration and the virus/tracer ratio, respectively. Detection limits for the samplers were estimated with the obtained efficiency data. Results. Physical efficiencies of the AGI-30 (96%) and the MD8 (100%) were significantly higher than that of the OMNI-3000 (60%). Biological efficiency of the OMNI-3000 (23%) was significantly lower than 100% (P < 0.01), indicating inactivation of airborne virus during sampling. The AGI-30, the Andersen impactor and the MD8 did not significantly inactivate virus during sampling. The 2-min detection limits of the samplers on airborne IBDV were 4.1 log10 50% egg infective dose (EID50) m-3 for the Andersen impactor, 3.3 log10 EID50 m-3 for the AGI-30, 2.5 log10 EID50 m-3 for the OMNI-3000, and 2.9 log10 EID50 m-3 for the MD8. The mean half-life of IBDV aerosolized at 20 °C and 70% was 11.9 min. Conclusion. Efficiencies of different samplers vary. Despite its relatively low sampling efficiency, the OMNI-3000 is suitable for use in environments with low viral concentrations because its high flow rate gives a low detection limit. With the 4 samplers investigated, negative air samples cannot guarantee virus-free aerial environments, which means that transmission of infectious agents between farms may still occur even when no virus has been detected.

Charging operations of a compact Tesla transformer were experimentally investigated, in single-shot and rep-rate (50 pps for 1 s) modes, respectively. The charging limitations were also explored. The experimental results were compared and analyzed. The maximum secondary charging voltages of the Tesla transformer were measured to be 380 kV and 300 kV in single-shot and rep-rate modes, respectively. The RMS pulse-to-pulse instability of the secondary charging voltage is generally less than 10% but increases with the increasing initial voltage across the primary capacitor. Since the secondary capacitor of the Tesla transformer is a pulse forming line (PFL), continued operation is possible if there is breakdown in the PFL. Furthermore, operation can even be continued under occasional breakdown for some pulses, without the effects on the operations of subsequent pulses.

Photoluminescence study of undoped, doped GaN grown on (00.1), (11.0), (01.2)Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ (100), (111)Si, and (00.1)6H-SiC substrates have been conducted. Strong bandedge emissions from all undoped samples and dopant-related emissions from doped samples were observed. Deep-level yellow emission centered around 2.2 eV was not observed from undoped GaN grown on 6H-SiC substrate, undoped GaN with optimum Ga source flow and doped GaN. The experiment data strongly suggest that Ga vacancies are the origin this deep-level emission.

Opis:
The multiple phased-mission system (MPMS) exists widely in practical engineering, such as aviation, spaceflight and navigation fields. Its distinct characteristic is that the system usually performs multiple missions and each mission consists of different phases. In this paper, we mainly focus on the reliability analysis for MPMS when the components have to accomplish different missions successively. A new modeling method is proposed for MPMS analysis based on the binary decision diagram (BDD) and multi-state multi-valued decision diagram (MMDD). Through this method, different phases of missions are combined with in the whole system by certain merging rules according to the operating time of a common component. Then, the system reliability can be calculated by the common calculation methods of decision diagrams by generating the through. Finally, two case studies are implemented to demonstrate the generation of BDD/MMDD models and the evaluation of system reliability. The experiment results verified the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed modeling methods.
Systemy wielofazowe (Multiple Phased-Mission Systems, MPMS), t.j. systemy o wielu zadaniach okresowych są powszechnie stosowane w praktyce inżynieryjnej, np. w lotnictwie, lotach kosmicznych czy nawigacji. Cechą wyróżniającą tego typu systemy jest to, że zazwyczaj wykonują one wiele zadań, z których każde składa się z różnych faz. Głównym tematem poniższej pracy jest analiza niezawodności MPMS dla przypadków, kiedy elementy składowe muszą wykonywać różne misje jedna po drugiej. W artykule zaproponowano nową metodę modelowania dla celów analizy MPMS opartą na koncepcji binarnego diagramu decyzyjnego (binary decision diagram, BDD) oraz wielostanowego wielowartościowego diagramu decyzyjnego (multi-state multi-valued decision diagram, MMDD). Metoda ta polega na łączeniu różnych faz misji w obrębie systemu za pomocą pewnych reguł łączenia wedle czasu pracy wspólnego elementu składowego. Pozwala to na obliczanie niezawodności systemu za pomocą powszechnie stosowanych metod diagramów decyzyjnych poprzez generowanie drzew błędów. W pracy zaprezentowano dwa studia przypadku, które pokazują, w jaki sposób generuje się modele BDD/MMDD oraz ocenia niezawodność systemu. Wyniki eksperymentów wykazały wydajność oraz trafność proponowanych metod modelowania.

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the self- healing properties of a commercially-available geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) using flexible-wall permeameter. The GCLs are produced by the same factory, but the contents of bentonite are different. Also the hydraulic conductivities (HC) of GCLs with no defect are different. In this study, specimens were completely saturated under the backpressure of 20 kPa before the test. Permeability tests were performed on GCL specimens with penet rating flaw and also on specimens permeated with distilled water and CaCl2 solutions. The test results were presented and discussed. Experimental results showed that the GCL with penetrating flaw did not exhibit complete self-healing in the case of flaw. After 120 days, the hydraulic conductivity increased by approximately an order of magnitude. In addition, CaCl2 solutions had a significant influence on the hydraulic conductivity. The research findings might be of interest to researchers and engineers who design liners for landfills and other liquid containment facilities.

In the work, temperature Q-1(T) and amplitude Q-1 (ε) dependences of internal friction for ferroelectric - ferromagnetic composites on the base of the PZT and ferrite were determined. The temperature dependences of internal friction Q-1 reveal the peak in the range of high temperatures. We have investigated the peak associated with the viscous-elastic mobility of ferroelectric domain walls. The internal friction due to the viscous-elastic mobility of ferroelectric domain walls was calculated and compared with the experimental data in the reference to the Wang’s theory. Based on internal friction measurements and theoretical considerations, the peak was described. Additionally the amplitude (isothermal) Q-1 (ε) dependences for the composites were made. This allowed for the interpretation of the maximum observed on the temperature dependences of the internal friction Q-1(T).
W pracy wyznaczano temperaturowe Q-1(T) i amplitudowe Q-1 (ε) zależności tarcia wewnętrznego dla ferroelektryczno - ferromagnetycznych kompozytów powstałych na bazie PZT i ferrytu. Na wykresach temperaturowych zależności tarcia wewnętrznego, uzyskanych dla badanych materiałów, obserwowano występowanie maksimum w zakresie wysokich temperatur. Do opisu maksimum zastosowany został model Wanga, który uwzględnia oddziaływania związane z lepko-sprężystym ruchem ferroelektrycznych ścian domenowych. Model ten bardzo dobrze opisał wyniki doświadczalne zależności tarcia wewnętrznego Q-1 od temperatury. Dobra zgodność pomiędzy modelem, a danymi pomiarowymi sugeruje, że za powstanie maksimum odpowiedzialne są lepko-sprężyste ruchy ścian domenowych. Ponadto przeprowadzono pomiary amplitudowych (izotermicznych) zależności tarcia wewnętrznego Q-1 (ε) dla badanych kompozytów. Pozwoliło to na interpretację maksimum obserwowanego wcześniej na temperaturowych zależnościach tarcia wewnętrznego.

This study aimed to investigate plasticity of different plant traits to varied light and water availability. A greenhouse experiment was conducted with Quercus aliena seedlings with two light and four soil water levels. Plant traits related to leaf physiology, morphology, anatomy, and biomass production were determined. The results showed that plant size had significant effects on leaf area, leaf number, shoot height, basal diameter and crown area. After excluding the influence of plant size, water treatment had stronger effects on plants compared to light levels, and their interaction effect was significant. The limited water supply significantly inhibited leaf photosynthetic rate and the fluorescence efficiency under high light. However, leaves submitted to moderate drought stress showed enhanced fluorescence activity under shade condition. Grand plasticity of leaf physiology and growth was the highest, followed by biomass allocation and leaf morphology, and lastly anatomy, and this ranking did not change as resources considered. Among the variables, leaf petiole length, chlorophyll content and leaf area could be selected as candidates for estimation of species’ plasticity to water, light and their interaction, respectively. Therefore, our results suggested that there was a hierarchy existing among traits plasticity in Q. aliena, and supported the aboveground facilitation hypothesis that shade could alleviate the adverse effect of drought.

In this study, five depth-averaged 2-D turbulence models for river flows, including the depth-averaged parabolic eddy viscosity model, modified mixing length model, standard k-e turbulence model, non-equilibrium k-e turbulence model and re-normalized group (RNG) k-e turbulence model, are compared in the simulation of flows around a spur-dyke, in a sudden-expanded flume and in two natural rivers. It is shown that in the two field cases where the channel geometries are simple, all five models can give generally good predictions for the main flow features. However, in the two laboratory cases where the channel geometries are complex, differences have been found among these models. The depth-averaged parabolic eddy viscosity model over-predicts the recirculation flows behind the spur-dyke and the flume expansion. The modified mixing length model gives better prediction than the depth-averaged parabolic model. The standard k-e turbulence model predicts well for the recirculation flow in the sudden-expended flume, but under-predicts the length of recirculation zone behind the spur-dyke, while the non-equilibrium and RNG k-e turbulence models provide good results for both laboratory cases.

Cadmium (Cd) stress significantly affects plant growth and development. Potentilla sericea is typically grown in gardens or as ground cover. In this study, the Cd response of P. sericea was analyzed based on physiological examinations and transcriptome analyses that uncovered the gene expression changes in P. sericea roots induced by a 7-day treatment with 90 μmol/L Cd2+. A total of 53,225 unigenes were identified, including 11,684 differentially expressed genes (DEGs; 8,083 upregulated and 3,601 downregulated). Additionally, 44 gene ontology terms and 127 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways were significantly enriched among these DEGs. Genes related to glutathione metabolism, plant hormone signal transduction, peroxisome processes, sulfur metabolism, and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways were confirmed as relevant to the Cd response of P. sericea. The molecular biology-related data described here may be useful for the future breeding of transgenic P. sericea plants with increased resistance to heavy metal stresses.

Novel lead and copper salts based on anthraquinone, including 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone,1,4,5,8-tetrahydroxyanthraquinone and 1,8-dihydroxy-4,5-dinitroanthraquinone, were prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), elemental analysis (EA), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The catalytic effects of these compounds on the decomposition of nitrocellulose (NC) and on the combustion properties of double-base (DB) and composite modified double-base (CMDB) propellants were comprehensively investigated. The results demonstrated that the burning rate is significantly increased (by 200%) in the lower pressure range (2-6 MPa) as compared to the control systems without added anthraquinone-based salts. Concurrently, the pressure exponents (n) were obviously lower, exhibiting a “wide-range plateau” combustion phenomenon in the middle-pressure region. Specifically, for the DB propellants such a plateau region extended from 10 MPa to 16 MPa for n equal to 0.10, from 10 MPa to 18 MPa for n equal to 0.11 and from 8 MPa to 18 MPa when n is 0.05. In the case of RDX-CMDB propellants, the plateau was found to be in the range 6-18 MPa, with n in the range 0.16-0.27, depending on the type of catalyst, in contrast to the reference CMDB sample, which was characterized by n equal to 0.7 for the same pressure range.

Opis:
The adsorption of pentafl uorobenzene on nine ionic liquid-based silicas was investigated using solid phase extraction. The effects of several variables such as the type of ionic liquid groups, adsorption time, temperatures and water ratio in the solution system were experimentally evaluated. The imidazole-chloride ionic liquid group based silica exhibited the highest adsorption efficiency under the optimized conditions of 5 min adsorption at 30°C in water/methanol (30:70, vol%) solution. In addition, the effects of pH, as well as type and concentrations of chloride salts were investigated. At pH values other than neutral and high salt concentration, the adsorption efficiency was reduced. Finally, the relative standard deviation of less than 5.8% over a 5-day period showed a high precision for the nine tested sorbents.
