Opis:
Aim. This research paper aims to identify the role of Saudi universities in spreading the culture of social responsibility based on the experiences of Malaysian and Canadian universities. Methods. The author adopted the descriptive analytical approach based on the literature review and analysing the experiences of Saudi, Malaysian, and Canadian universities. Results. The results showed that the Saudi Ministry of Education should play its role in institutionalising social responsibility in Saudi universities and the higher education sector, e.g., promoting social responsibility practices at universities as a part of the ministry’s strategy. Conclusion. In the light of the results obtained the officials of Saudi universities can benefit from the experience of Malaysian and Canadian universities to spread the culture of social responsibility. This research recommends raising the awareness of university students of the importance of university social responsibility as a strategy to motivate them to participate in various community activities and programmes. Originality. This research is considered one of the fewest studies that analysed the experiences of Saudi, Malaysian, and Canadian universities.

Opis:
In the first part of these remarks I recall such examples from the past of the mentioned political agenda that might be a sort of  warning for a too far reaching overtaking of higher education institutions by political powers. In the second part, however, I recall contemporary ways and forms of political agenda, which I call “velvet” revolutions and I also see them as threat to fulfill by universities their social missions. The remarks and evaluations formulated by me at the end are certainly not to be considered. These remarks are being treated by me as a voice in the discussion on the issue how much politics might be or has to be in the life of universities, what kind of politics do any good to them and what kind brings more damage.

Opis:
The governance of universities and colleges in the United States basically follows the concept and spirit of democracy embraced by the nation from its birth.  The systems and practices in place at most U.S. institutions of higher learning include collaborative, representative, or collective decision-making arrangements known as shared governance.  However, these systems and practices are hardly uniform due to the diversity of governance patterns that reflect the unique and different history, needs, and mission of a particular institution.  Sometimes they are differentiated from, and contrasted with, corporate, business, and more authoritarian or centralized forms of institutional governance. In contrast with university governance elsewhere in the world-that can range from strong central government control to private self-regulated operations-the U.S. forms of campus governance have emerged in a country that does not have centralized authority over education.  U.S. institutions of higher learning respond to a variety of controls and interests that are on display variously at public, private non-profit, private for-profit, and religious universities.  Governance, authority, and administration are spread across a wide spectrum of players, including governing boards; presidents, chancellors, and other administrators; the academy/faculty; administrative staff; campus committees; students; and, even some external factors. Shared governance is not a perfect formula or panacea for university administration and decision-making.  It does, however, provide a methodology, system, and concept that can help guide the leadership of a university as it approaches the administration and conduct of its educational responsibilities.  In today’s higher education environment, the term governance is rather expansive.  In one sense, it means top-down governance that is the rightful role and authority of an institutional board charged with overseeing policy, programming, performance, and executive guidance and evaluation.  But, it also variously means the use of institutional strategies, operations, and components to distribute, disseminate, and “share” authority and responsibilities for a university’s administrative, management, and decision-making functions, i.e., “on-campus governance.”  In this respect, shared governance “borrows” many of the attributes and principles of democratic government. In any case, shared governance, in its many forms and applications, is widely practiced in U.S. universities, including Delta State University.

survey of polish universities
Opis:
The article presents the most important conclusions from public opinion polls and knowledge about Polish universities. The poll was conducted by means of the method of direct survey in respondents' homes. The survey was earned out on a representative sample of 1135 inhabitants of Poland at the end of 2011 and at the beginning of 2012. The survey was conducted using a specially prepared questionnaire containing mainly open questions, focusing on the knowledge and opinions of the surveyed concerning Polish universities. Due to the lack of comparable research concerning Polish universities, the survey presnted here is the first attempt to empirically respond to certain scientific questions. The achieved results show both the current image of a "university" among the population of inhabitants of Poland and the expectations, as well as open and hidden determinants of the perception of universities - especially those assessed negatively and positively. The image is topped with the reconstruction of the idea of a perfect university. The analysis of collected data highlights a few dimensions, through which universities are perceived. These dimensions are systemic in character. On the basis of analysis of the achieved results an attempt was made to highlight possible directions of development of universities in Poland, paying particular attention to the aspect of communication and marketing.

Purpose: An analysis of education programmes at selected universities in Poland in terms of coverage of subjects related to sustainable development. Methodology: An analysis of information published on the Internet, on the official website of each examined Polish university. Results: The scope of education on the subject matter related to sustainable development at the nine best Polish universities was presented. The number and names of faculties and majors were indicated (where the main purpose was education on that subject matter and where that subject was taught, but it was not their basic teaching subject). The number of courses and ECTS points allocated to those courses was determined, for each major. Originality: The research results fill in the gaps in available statistics on teaching of courses related to sustainable development at Polish universities. The data can be the basis for comparisons between other periods and drawing of conclusions about the trends of changes in education.

Opis:
The article discusses the idea of universities for children, particularly its foundation by Maria Skłodowska-Curie and the current condition of this initiative. Maria Skłodowska-Curie was not only an excellent scientist, but also a great teacher and an educational innovator. She was the first to show that university may be a great place for children to learn. She emphasised that universities should be responsible not only for teaching but also for students’ flourishing. Modern universities seem to draw on this inspiring idea developed by Skłodowska-Curie. The author describes how the Maria Skłodowska-Curie cooperative changed as well as how the idea evolved into the university for children as it is recognised today.

Opis:
The principal objective of this research was to compare research productivity of top five universities in Indonesia and Malaysia. To reveal the purpose of this research, comparative research was conducted. Data collection was based on Scopus database. Findings showed that over the period 2000 – 2017, top five universities in Indonesia produced only 3000 – 9000, whereas top five universities in Malaysia produced 29,000 – 39,000 articles. The findings suggest that top five universities in Indonesia, or generally all universities in Indonesia, should encourage academics, lecturers, students, and researchers to produce more research articles.
