Opis:
Thermodynamical properties of an Ising model of a ferromagnetic thin film deposited onto a ferromagnetic substrate of rough surface contacting the thin film were studied. The influence of the interaction between the substrate and the film as well as the effect of the substrate surface roughness were found to be describable in this model by a temperature dependent random surface field. Magnetization of the thin film was calculated for various temperatures at different assumed values of the substrate Curie temperature as well as for various surface roughness grades of the substrate and various couplings between the film and the substrate.

Opis:
Short overview of optical methods which proved to be useful in the characterization of HTSC thin film substrates is presented. Preliminary tests in polariscopic arrangements, interferometric measurements, optical absorption and emission spectroscopy reveal macroscopic deficiencies of the crystal. Intentionally introduced impurity ions serve as probes of a local strength and symmetry of the crystal field. Results of optical study of SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ and SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ crystals are presented and discussed.

The authors present new studies on triple junction photo voltaic structures using nano-technological solutions. The system of the amorphous a-Si:H sandwich with the scattered light particles, the plasmonic nano Si in the a-Si:H matrix structure and the silicon-germanium sandwich on the multi ZnO layer electrode- reflector was made and studied in detail.

Opis:
ZnS nanocrystalline thin films were grown into the polyvinyl alcohol matrix and were synthesized by chemical route. Films were prepared on glass substrate by varying the deposition parameters and pH of the solution. Nanocrystalline thin film prepared under optimum growth conditions shows band gap value 3.88 eV as observed from optical absorption data. The band gap is found to be higher (3.88 eV) indicating blue shift. The particle size, calculated from the shift of direct band gap, due to quantum confinement effect is 5.8 nm. Photoluminescence spectrum shows the blue luminescence peaks (centered at 425 nm), which can be attributed to the recombination of the defect states. ZnS nanocrystalline thin films are also found to be photosensitive in nature. However, the photosensitivity decreases due to ageing and exposure to oxygen. In case of nanostructured film, the I-V characteristics are observed in dark and under illumination showing photosensitive nature of these films, too. The dark current, however, is found to be greater when observed in vacuum compared to air. Both dark current and photocurrent are found to be ohmic in nature up to a certain applied bias. The observed data shows that nanostructured films are found to be suitable for device application. The surface morphology of the film is also characterized by scanning electron microscope.

Opis:
In this study we produced nanostructured silicon thin films as lithium ion battery electrodes. Films were sputtered onto stainless steel substrates from high purity silicon target via dc magnetron sputtering technique with using different powers. Morphology and crystal structure of films were characterized with the use of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis, respectively. The thickness of films was measured by using surface profiler. Coin type test cells were assembled in argon filled glove box. Electrochemical performance of cells was tested on an electrochemical analyzer using constant current densities over a voltage range of 0.2-2 V.

The c-axis orientation YBa₂Cu₃O_δ thin film was prepared directly on MgO substrate by the pulse laser deposition. The thickness of the film is 170 nm. The superconducting critical temperature is T_{c50%}=87.5 K and the width of superconducting transition is ΔT = 1.8 K. The temperature dependences of magnetoresistance were measured up to 90 kOe. The widths of the transition to the superconducting state versus applied magnetic field were derived and they were fitted using the formula: Δ T=CH^m +Δ T₀. The irreversibility fields as a function of temperature were obtained and fitted by the de Almeida and Thouless-like equation: H_{irr}=H_{irr0}(1-T/T_{c0})^n. The irreversibility field at the liquid nitrogen temperature was calculated and it is H_{irr}=43.8 kOe when the applied magnetic field is parallel to the c-axis.

The c-axis orientation $YBa_2Cu_3O_δ$ thin film was prepared directly on MgO substrate by the pulse laser deposition. The thickness of the film was 170 nm. The superconducting critical temperature was $T_{c50%}$=89 K and the width of superconducting transition was Δ T= 1.6 K. Temperature dependence of the critical current of the film was obtained from the temperature dependences of the imaginary part of the AC susceptibility using the Bean model. The critical current density was $J_{c}$=1.2×$10^7$ A/$cm^{2}$ at 77 K in the self field. The critical exponents were calculated for several values of the DC applied magnetic field using the temperature dependences of magnetoresistivity. The thermal fluctuations in vicinity of the critical temperature were analysed.

Fotowoltaika cienkowarstwowa jest jednym z najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijających się obszarów techniki ostatnich lat. W artykule przedstawiono rozwój ogniw fotowoltaicznych, w szczególności drugiej i trzeciej generacji, oraz zmiany, jakie się dokonują w produkcji paneli fotowoltaicznych z korzyścią dla paneli cienkowarstwowych. Opisano również szereg elementów cienkowarstwowych, będących elementem paneli fotowoltaicznych, w znaczący sposób wpływających na podstawowy parametr służący do oceny jakości ogniwa, jakim jest jego efektywność, jak również zmiany, jakie następują w rodzaju podłoży, będących elementami nośnymi każdej ze struktur cienkowarstwowych. Przedstawiono wpływ, jaki mają elektrody przewodzące, pasywacyjne, czy antyrefleksyjne na wydajność panelu fotowoltaicznego.
Thin film photovoltaics is one of the fastest growing industrial field in the last few years. The development of the second and third generation of the solar cells is presented in this work, especially changes and a fast growing production of the thin film panels. All other thin film components which influenced the efficiency of solar panels are presented as well as the changes in substrates for thin film solar cell technology. The influence of the conductive transparent electrodes, passivation and antireflective films on efficiency of the solar panel is shown.

Four binary polymer -solvent systems, poly(styrene)-tetrahydrofuran, poly(styrene) - p-xylene, poly(methyl methacrylate) - ethylbenzene and poly(methyl methacrylate) - tetrahydrofuran, systems have been studied. It has been observed that thicker coatings will retain a higher amount of the residual solvent as compared to thinner coatings. In the case of poly(styrene)-tetrahydrofuran coating residual solvent remaining within the coatings were 9.09% and 4.74% for the coatings of the thicknesses of 967 micron and 559 micron, respectively. Similar trends were also observed in the case of poly(methyl methacrylate)-ethylbenzene, poly(methyl methacrylate)-tetrahydrofuran, and poly(styrene)-p-xylene systems.

Sodium alginate (TiO2) sand composites were prepared by solution casting. Purified sand was added in the composite films to increase electrical conductivity. Electrical properties such as conductivity, capacitance, dielectric constant, and loss tangent of the composites were investigated. The current voltage characteristics for all the composites showed ohmic behavior. All the electrical properties have been found to improve with the incorporation of sand (SiO2) but 6 % sand containing composite exhibits the best electrical properties. The mechanical properties tensile strength (TS), elongation at break (Eb) and Young modulus for 6 % sand containing composite film are found to be 4.445 MPa, 9.76 %, and 72.8 MPa respectively. The experimental results reveal that the blended films exhibit higher stability and improved mechanical properties of both tensile strength and elongation at break in dry state. Water absorption properties of the composites are found to decrease with the increase of sand content. Lowest water uptake properties and highest stability were demonstrated by 6 % sand containing sample. Electrically conductive composite films have useful applications for solar cells and optoelectronics. Thus, this study is very much expected to aid in the design and selection of proper composite for the potential application of solar cell and optoelectronics.

In the last years, the study of the antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic interfaces was a very exciting topic in the thin film area. Using the Monte Carlo technique (by applying the standard Metropolis algorithm) and the extended Heisenberg model with low dipolar interaction, the influence of the antiferromagnetic base layer on the magnetic properties of the multilayer thin film is investigated, in the ferromagnetic region of the phase diagram of the system. For each ferromagnetic layer individually, we study the physical quantities of interest (assuming particular physical conditions): the out-of-plane magnetization, the magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat and we point out the Ising-like ordering of the magnetic spins. The obtained numerical results show that the critical temperature of the individual layers decreases as we approach the base antiferromagnetic layer and consequently, the stability of the ferromagnetic phase increases with the distance from the base layer.

Opis:
One of the main issues of the device technology on metal-dielectric (MD) substrates is poor adhesion of thin metallic films, which are used for interconnections in electrical circuits. Films are formed by vacuum deposition on a porous dielectric layer of substrates. The presence of pores sufficiently complicates the cleaning of the substrate surface, which significantly decreases the adhesion of the film deposited on it. Technology of metal films with high adhesion, fabricated by ion-plasma method is proposed in this work. Films were deposited on MD substrates produced by electrochemical oxidation of aluminum alloys. The main operations of the technology are the following. Removal of residual electrolyte after the oxidation is carried out by rinsing of substrates initially under running hot water, and then in deionized water, followed by drying in a flow of heated nitrogen. Annealing of substrates under the pressure of $10^{-3}$ Pa and temperature of 550-570 K for 20 min is carried on in the vacuum chamber before the deposition of metal films. Copper is used as the main material of the interconnection films. Adhesion sublayer is fabricated on the basis of chromium or vanadium, which have high enthalpy of the oxide formation. Measurements showed that the copper films with the thickness of 1.5 μm, deposited on the vanadium sublayer with the thickness of 0.12 μm, which is comparable with the roughness of oxide layer, have adhesion of $25 N//mm^{2}$ at the temperature of 520 K. Investigation of adhesion was carried on by the method of direct tear off with the error of up to 10%.

Gas sensing materials have been prepared in a form of $TiO_{2}-SnO_{2}$ thin films by rf reactive sputtering from $Ti:SnO_{2}$ and $Sn:TiO_{2}$ targets. Material studies have been performed by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction at grazing incidence, Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and optical spectrophotometry. Dynamic gas sensing responses have been recorded as reproducible changes in the electrical resistance upon introduction of hydrogen at a partial pressure of 100-6000 ppm over a wide temperature range 473-873 K. Contamination experiments have been carried out with the motor oil (40 vol.% solution in $CCl_{4}$) in order to study the effect of UV light illumination on the gas sensor response. Optical spectroscopy has been applied to monitor the photodecomposition of the test compound, bromothymol blue. The Electronic Nose, ALPHA MOS FOX 4000 has been used in order to differentiate between different groups of motor oil vapors.

The spin-wave resonance in the thin FeBr$\text{}_{2}$ field-induced metamagnet in the paramagnetic phase with the (001) surfaces and at low temperatures is examined theoretically. It is found that the absorption spectrum is strongly affected by modifications of the surface exchange parameters. Also, the conditions for the appearance of various surface and bulk spin-wave features are discussed.

We study the problem of a thin film of neutral fermions in the presence of a magnetic field and scattering on random, uncorrelated irregularities at the boundaries of the film. An attractive interaction of s-wave type is assumed. We solve the equation for the energy gap and demonstrate its dependence on both the field and the scattering strength. The phase diagram is found. There exists a critical point (T$\text{}_{c}^{\star}$, H$\text{}_{c}^{\star}$). For temperatures below T$\text{}_{c}^{\star}$ the phase transition is of the first order and of the second order above it. As expected, the surface scattering significantly reduces the values of the critical field and temperature T$\text{}_{c}$. The critical point changes its position with increasing scattering rate but is not removed from the phase diagram until superfluidity is destroyed.

Based on the calculation about intervalley scattering rates in ZnS, the intervalley transfer process in ZnS-type thin film electroluminescent devices is investigated through the Monte Carlo simulation. The transient time of intervalley transfer is about 0.2-0.3 ps, it coincides with that of electron average energy. Intervalley distribution shifts to high valleys as the electric field increased. The electron kinetic energy distributions in different valleys are also gained. We propose that high valleys could store energies, which could prolong the decay of the electron average energy as the field was removed. These results could be used as the basic data on the study of electroluminescent process and the citation of valley parameters in analytic models should be carefully considered.

Thin films of acid-functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (O-MWCNT) with different concentrations and coated O-MWCNT with $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles (MWCNT/$Fe_3O_4$) were prepared on glass substrate at 300C by spray pyrolysis technique. In order to study the effect of nanotubes alignment on the physical properties of carbon nanotube films, thin film of iron oxide nanoparticles coated carbon nanotubes was deposited under magnetic field of 0.4 T. All samples were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and the Hall effect experiment. Results show that the electrical conductivity and optical transmittance of carbon nanotubes thin films depend on the concentration of carbon nanotubes and their arrangement at the films. Aligning carbon nanotubes in thin films leads to an obvious improvement in electrical and optical properties of thin films.

We present theoretically the characterization of 100 nm $SiO_2$ thin film using spectroscopic rotating polarizer analyzer ellipsometer in which the two elements are rotating synchronously in opposite directions with the same angular speed. The proposed sample consists of air (ambient)/$SiO_2$ (thin film)/Si (substrate). The ellipsometric parameters ψ and Δ are calculated when a clean signal is received by the detector and when a hypothetical noise is imposed on this signal. The film thickness and the optical constants of the film are calculated for the noisy signal in the spectrum range 200-800 nm. The results are compared with the proposed thickness and with the published values for $SiO_2$ optical constants.

Bilayer sandwich structures were fabricated by the sequential thermal evaporation of gold, copper phthalocyanine (CuPc), C$\text{}_{60}$ and gold onto sapphire substrates. When the current-voltage characteristics of a freshly made device are measured in an atmosphere of argon, fairly strong rectification is observed. When the bilayer device is exposed to ammonia vapor, the rectification slowly decreases and almost disappears. If the device is then placed under vacuum and the ammonia removed, the initial conditions slowly return. We attribute the rectification to the formation of a p-n junction.

The structure and the dynamics of the argon thin film coating (15,4) and (12,12) carbon nanotubes have been studied in a series of molecular dynamic simulations. In the studied temperature regime, the argon atoms in the thin film were well localized. Structural changes and diffusion process inside the argon layers were not been observed. The influence of the chirality and the radius of the nanotube to the cluster properties is also reported.

Thin films of zinc oxide doped with aluminium were obtained by using the magnetron sputtering technique on glass substrates. The changes in magnetron power influence the structural, optical and electrical properties of the ZnO:Al layers. The deposited films are characterized by very good homogeneity and high optical transmission. Thicker films with larger agglomerates on the surface exhibit lower resistivity with the remaining good transparency.

We have demonstrated the novel CdTe X-ray imaging device that consists of a Schottky CdTe diode and a Vertical Thin Film Field Emitter Array (VTF-FEA). The Schottky CdTe diode was fabricated by deposied indium (In) thin film on a Cl-doped p-type (p-type) CdTe substrate and Sb2S3 on the opposite side of the CdTe substrate. VTF-FEA was fabricated by ion induced bending (IIB) and etch-back method. The signal current was successfully detected by the recombination of the stored on the surface holes with the emitted electrons from FEA, and it was clarified that it depended on the X-ray intensity. And the imaging device succeeded in obtaining the Cu plate transmission image.

Microstructures are an important link between materials processing and performance, and microstructure control is essential for any materials processing route where the microstructure plays a major role in determining the properties. In this work, silverdoped titanium dioxide (Ag/TiO2) thin film was prepared by the sol-gel method through the hydrolysis of titanium tetra-isopropoxide and silver nitrate solution. The sol was spin coated on ITO glass substrate to get uniform film followed by annealing process for 2 hours. The obtained films were annealed at different annealing temperatures in the range of 300°C-600°C in order to observe the effect on crystalline state, microstructures and optical properties of Ag/TiO2 thin film. The thin films were characterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. It is clearly seen, when the annealing temperature increases to 500°C, a peak at 2θ = 25.30° can be seen which refers to the structure of TiO2 tetragonal anatase. The structure of Ag/TiO2 thin film become denser, linked together, porous and uniformly distributed on the surface and displays the highest cut-off wavelength value which is 396 nm with the lowest band gap value, which is 3.10 eV.

The influence of homogeneous dynamic microwave magnetic field applied to the permalloy (Py) thin film with a single circular antidot on the magnetization dynamics was theoretically investigated. It was considered that the Py film is saturated by the external constant magnetic field along the direction perpendicular to the film plane. The linearized Landau-Lifshitz equation was applied in order to create an analytical model of small deviations from the equilibrium values of the magnetization and magnetic field. Conditions of the local ferromagnetic resonances were defined and the dependency of resonance frequency on the magnetic field magnitude was visualized. The model has shown that the amplitude of the resonant magnetization oscillations is localized near the antidot edge and their position is dependent on the frequency.

Opis:
The Soret effect in interference field of two intensive laser beams in the thin film of magnetic fluid was used to create a periodical structure of density of magnetic particles. The structures obtained were indicated using the self-diffraction of the optical beam creating the structures. The relaxation phenomena after switching off the laser interference field were discussed in terms of the spectrum of relaxation times. This spectrum is proportional to hydrodynamic particle size distribution. The relaxation of optical grating consists of two well-defined channels, i.e. decay through single particles and small aggregates, respectively.

The spectral distribution of the quantum efficiency in thin-film CdS/CdTe solar cells is being investigated by taking into account the drift and diffusion components of photocurrent, recombination at the CdS-CdTe interface, the back surface of the CdTe absorber layer and in the space-charge region. The effect of uncompensated acceptor concentration, lifetime of minority carriers and surface recombination velocity on the charge collection efficiency are discussed. The losses caused by reflections and absorption in the CdS and indium tin oxide layers are also considered.

We report on reduction of optical losses in n-CdTe/p-ZnTe thin-film solar cells grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The investigated thin-film devices were grown from elemental sources on monocrystalline, semi-insulating, (100)-oriented GaAs substrates. The optical losses have been reduced by a texturing of the device surface and by depositing of a ZnO antireflection coating. Current-voltage and spectral characteristics of the investigated p-ZnTe/n-CdTe solar cells depend significantly on the preparation of the surface of the ZnTe window. We describe a procedure of chemical etching of the ZnTe window leading to surface texturing. A ZnO layer of proper thickness deposited by low-temperature atomic layer deposition technique on the ZnTe surface forms an effective antireflection coating that leads to the reduction of optical losses. Due to reduction of the optical losses we observe increase of the short-circuit current, $J_{SC}$, by almost 60% and of the energy conversion efficiency by 44%.

In this paper CdO thin film has been prepared by sol-gel dip-coating method on glass substrate. The film was characterized by X-Ray diffraction, UV-Visible spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopy for structural and optical properties of CdO thin film. The XRD pattern shows that film is polycrystalline in nature and has a cubical structure with orientation along (111) plane. The diffuse reflectance spectra for the film is studied in wavelength range 400-800 nm. The direct energy band gap of 2.50 eV is found for the film using modified Kubelka-Munk function. Photoluminescence spectra shows one sharp peak at 540 nm due to oxygen vacancy of cadmium oxide.

This work presents a theoretical study for the distribution of nanocomposite structure of plasmonic thin-film solar cells through the absorber layers. It can be reduced the material consumption and the cost of solar cell. Adding nanometallic fillers in the absorber layer has been improved optical, electrical characteristics and efficiency of traditional thin film solar cells (ITO /CdS/PbS/Al and SnO2/CdS/CdTe/Cu) models that using sub micro absorber layer. Also, this paper explains analysis of J-V, P-V and external quantum efficiency characteristics for nanocomposites thin film solar cell performance. Also, this paper presents the effect of increasing the concentration of nanofillers on the absorption, energy band gap and electron-hole generation rate of absorber layers and the effect of volume fraction on the energy conversion efficiency, fill factor, space charge region of the nanocomposites solar cells.

Opis:
Noise studies of planar thin-film Ni-P resistors made in/on Printed Circuit Boards, both covered with two different types of cladding or uncladded have been described. The resistors have been made of the resistive-conductive-material (Ohmega-Ply©) of 100 Ώ/sq. Noise of the selected pairs of samples has been measured in the DC resistance bridge with a transformer as the first stage in a signal path. 1/f noise caused by resistance fluctuations has been found to be the main noise component. Parameters describing noise properties of the resistors have been calculated and then compared with the parameters of other previously studied thin- and thick-film resistive materials.

In this paper we show based on experiments that an invariant representation exists for various polymer-based solution processable organic thin film transistors (OTFTs). Despite the fact that this technology suffers from a non-negligible spread of parameters, all experimental data exhibit low dispersion when represented in a gm/Id versus Id diagram. This result is important for circuit design strategy based on the gm/Id representation, giving more insight into analogue design methodology. In addition, the gm/Id invariant can also be used to extract the gale voltage mobility dependence that is inherent to organic field effect transistor.

Layered nanostructures of tungsten trioxide WO3-x about 62 nm thick, with a very thin film of palladium (about 3.3 nm) on the top, have been studied for gas-sensing application at temperatures 50.C and 120.130.C and low NO2 and NH3 concentrations in 6%, 30% or 45% relative humidity in the air. Thin film WO3-x nanostructures were obtained by vacuum deposition on a common Si-SiO2 substrate at room temperature and 120.C. The palladium was coated by vacuum evaporation at room temperature and 4 �E 10.6 mbar on WO3-x layers obtained at two different substrate temperatures. The average rate of growth of the films, controlled by a QCM, was 0.1.0.2 nm/s. A multi-channel (four-channel interdigital gold electrodes) planar resistance gas sensor structure was used in the experiments. The surface of the nanostructures was characterized by means of the AFM method. Good sensor results have been observed at these layered nanostructures with an increasing resistance for NO2 molecules and decreasing resistance for NH3 molecules in a humid air atmosphere. The interaction and recovery speed were higher in the case of the nanostructure obtained at room temperature.

In this study, antimony doped tin oxide films were deposited on multiwall carbon nanotube buckypaper and Cr coated stainless steel substrates using a radio frequency magnetron sputtering process in a mixed oxygen/argon (5/95) gas environment. The depositions of antimony doped tin oxide on the multiwall carbon nanotube buckypaper and stainless steel substrates were carried out using the parameters organized as: target composition antimony doped tin oxide ($SnO_2$:Sb = 90:10 wt%); total system pressure 1 Pa; sputtering power (RF) 100 W. The surface morphology of the antimony doped tin oxide films was investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy. The crystallographic structure of the samples was determined by X-ray diffraction. The electrochemical properties of antimony doped tin oxide and antimony doped tin oxide-multiwall carbon nanotube nanocomposite anodes containing CR2016 cells were measured by galvanostatic charge-discharge experiments.

The temperature and magnetic field dependences of a.c. resistance of c-axis oriented (Tl$\text{}_{0.5}$Pb$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.8}$Ba$\text{}_{0.2}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca $\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{x}$ and (Tl$\text{}_{0.6}$Pb$\text{}_{0.24}$Bi$\text{}_{0.16}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.9}$Ba$\text{}_{0.1}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$ O$\text{}_{x}$ thin films as well as of (Tl$\text{}_{0.5}$Pb$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.8}$Ba$\text{}_{0.2}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca$\text{}_{ }$2Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{x}$ bulk sample from 77 K to room temperature and in magnetic fields from zero to 3000 Oe were measured and analyzed. The magnetic field and temperature dependence of the resistive superconducting transition and irreversibility field were discussed both in the flux-creep model and in the superconducting liquid vortex state model. The temperature width of resistive transition was explained taking advantage of the Ambegaokar and Halperin model of the resistance of superconducting Josephson weak links and barrier of vortex motion presented by Tinkham. The irreversibility field was described by an exponential formula.

Back side p+ emitter thin silicon solar cells have been constructed using vapor phase epitaxy. Double porous structure on a c-Si substrate was used as a seed substrate in order to enable active layer separation after vapor phase epitaxy growth. Structure of the back side emitter solar cell was obtained in situ during the epitaxy process. In order to enhance solar cell response to light from a range of 700–1200 nm wavelength, the back side dielectric mirror was developed and optimized by means of a computer simulation and deposited by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. At the same time, a reference sample was fabricated. Comparison of solar cells performance with or without the back side mirror was performed and clearly shows that the quality of solar light conversion into the electricity by means of solar cells, can be improved by using the structure proposed in this article.

This study attempted to fabricate heating fabrics using thin-film solar cells. A lightweight and flexible thin-film solar cell was used as the power supply, and fabric samples made of carbon fiber heating lines were used as heating elements. Single-factor experiments of three factors (solar cell voltage, heating time, and carbon fiber heating line arrangement) were conducted, and their influence on the heating effect was analysed. Orthogonal experiments and variance tests were used to determine the influence of the three factors and the optimal heating process. All influential factors were shown to be statistically significant. This kind of heating fabric can be used in warm clothing or for heated clothing.

The independent random walk method (which is equivalent to the noninteracting spin wave method) with no further approximations was used to calculate the low temperature expansion of: (i) the local mean spin values of an isotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet for semi-infinite crystal and (ii) the spontaneous magnetization of an anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet for monolayer and double layer. The full low temperature expansion starting with T$\text{}^{3}\text{}^{/}\text{}^{2}$ term was obtained for the semi-infinite Heisenberg ferromagnet and it was shown that the spontaneous magnetization for thin films of anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnets can exhibit a quasi-linear behaviour in certain temperature region related to the magnitude of the anisotropy.

This article deals in the constantly developing branch of microelectronic devices used in various fields of medicine, i.e. diagnostics and treatment of previously incurable human diseases. A method for assessing and monitoring the vital functions of living cells by measuring cellular impedance in real-time using the ECIS® system and a commercial culture substrate is presented. The goal was to develop a substrate significantly less expensive than a commercial substrate that would be suitable for multiple uses and compatible with the ECIS® measurement station. Moreover, thanks to the use of a material with electrochemical properties other than the biocompatible material (gold or platinum) it is possible to observe the cells behavior with regard to the toxic agent. For this purpose, a culture substrate with nickel comb capacitors was used. To make the electrodes, a thin metal layer was sputtered on polycarbonate plates in the magnetron sputtering process. Prior to the next stages, technological masks were designed so as to fit in the ECIS® measuring station. Subsequently, the microelectronic processes of photolithography and etching the metal layer were performed. Finally, the wells were glued onto the culture medium with a biocompatible adhesive. The completed substrates were transferred to the Department of Human Physiology, Medical University of Lublin, for the culture test on A-375 human melanoma cells. The results of the experiment determined the usefulness of the device for monitoring cell culture vital functions by means of impedance measurement.

Opis:
The thermodynamic response functions were studied in thin films in the frame of the Blume-Emery-Griffiths model. The method is based on the analysis of the Gibbs free energy and involves calculations of the magnetization and quadrupolar moment distributions. The temperature dependencies of the susceptibility and specific heat are obtained for various biquadratic interaction parameter and non-zero single-ion anisotropy. The behaviour of these functions in different phases: ferromagnetic, paramagnetic and staggered quadrupolar are illustrated in figures and discussed.

In this paper the magnetic behavior of triple layer thin film was investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. We fixed an antiferromagnetic arrangement of the lattice spins for the basal layer of the film and we studied the basal layer magnetic ordering influence on the two other layers, by calculating the out-of-plane and the in-plane magnetization, the out-of-plane and the in-plane magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat. We found out five magnetic ordering phases of the sample: ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, mixed phase ordering, paramagnetic and XY-like magnetic ordering of the spins, respectively.

The research of the optimal surface structure has attracted considerable interest because of its potential application in light trapping in thin-film solar cells (TFSCs). In this paper, a super-fine structure named complex trapezoid grating is proposed to improve the optical absorption comparing to the conventional simple trapezoid grating in a-Si:H TFSCs. The numerical calculation by utilizing rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) is conducted to obtain the optical absorption of the structured surface. The results demonstrate that, compared to a planar slab, the optimized-simple trapezoid grating shows 97% enhancement of power conversion efficiency η while the complex trapezoid grating shows 131% enhancement. Obviously, the complex trapezoid grating exhibits a better performance than the simple grating, which is due to the perfect antireflective effect and microcavity resonance effect. The angular response of the optical absorption in a-Si:H TFSCs was also investigated. The results further indicate that it is a better way to select the complex trapezoid grating in improving the optical absorption of silicon-based TFSCs.

This paper presents an analytical model calculating the threshold voltage in nanocrystalline silicon (nc-Si) thin film transistors by considering a granular morphology of silicon nanocrystallites forming the channel and using the two-dimensional the Poisson equation. The numerical calculations demonstrate that, according to the quantum size effects on both dielectric constant and band gap, the threshold voltage values are strongly related to the silicon crystallites structure. To justify the validity of our model suitable for implementation in circuit simulators such as SPICE, the simulation results obtained are compared with the available research data and they shows a satisfactory match, thus, demonstrating the validity of our model.

In this paper, the effect of the post-annealing on the dielectric properties of SrTiO₃ thin films (200 nm) grown by ion beam sputtering has been investigated. The measured dielectric constant dramatically increased after the post-annealing which is a consequence of the formation of the perovskite phase. A low frequency relaxation mechanism is clearly identified in the amorphous state of this material. Once crystallized, a second relaxation mechanism of lower amplitude is detected at high frequencies and for high measuring temperature. It is assumed that this second relaxation process is related to the space charges bound at the grain boundaries, whereas the first one was assigned to the thermally activated motions of the ionized oxygen vacancies and interfacial polarization under alternating field.

Sol-gel technique was employed to prepare semiconductor tin dioxide $(SnO_2)$ thin films. Comparatively, it gives an advantage over other techniques by its low reaction temperature, easy process and low cost. The effect of glycerin addition on the structure and preventing crack formation has been investigated. Scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis were performed to characterize nanostructured films.
