The aim of our study was to describe the psychological well-being of women in Poland during the two waves of COVID-19 pandemic. In this cross-sectional study we used standardized tools to assess mood, emotions, optimism and satisfaction with life of the respondents. A questionnaire to collect sociodemographic data and data related to current concerns was also developed and used. The study was conducted twice: in 2020/2021 (T1) and 2021/2022 (T2) in two different, but corresponding groups of women (T1: 352; T2: 372) in terms of demographic variables. The strongest stressors for Polish women in both measurements were associated with difficulties in access to health service, political climate in Poland and the health of loved ones. The mood was negative in both measurements compared to pre-pandemic normative data. Deterioration in emotions was particularly pronounced in the case of negative affect. The distribution of the results in optimism and satisfaction with life was much more balanced and similar to the pre-pandemic norms. No significant differences were found between the two measurements. The results show that the increase in negative emotions does not have to be accompanied by the deterioration of such traits as optimism and satisfaction with life. Thus, the results show the areas that should be covered by support, and the areas that are resources that can be used for this purpose.
Celem przedstawionego w artykule badania było opisanie dobrostanu psychicznego kobiet w Polsce w czasie dwóch fal pandemii COVID-19. W prezentowanych badaniach poprzecznych wykorzystano wystandaryzowane narzędzia do oceny nastroju, emocji, optymizmu i satysfakcji z życia. Opracowano i wykorzystano także kwestionariusz do gromadzenia danych socjodemograficznych oraz danych dotyczących bieżących obaw. Badanie przeprowadzono dwukrotnie: na przełomie 2020/2021 (T1) i 2021/2022 (T2) w dwóch różnych, ale odpowiadających sobie pod względem zmiennych demograficznych grupach kobiet (T1: 352; T2: 372). Najsilniejsze stresory dla Polek w obu pomiarach wiązały się z trudnościami w dostępie do służby zdrowia, klimatem politycznym w Polsce oraz obawą o zdrowie bliskich. Nastrój w obu pomiarach był gorszy w porównaniu z danymi normatywnymi sprzed pandemii. Pogorszenie emocji było szczególnie wyraźne w przypadku uczuć negatywnych. Rozkład wyników w zakresie optymizmu i satysfakcji z życia był znacznie bardziej zrównoważony i zbliżony do norm sprzed pandemii. Nie stwierdzono znaczących różnic pomiędzy obydwoma pomiarami. Wyniki pokazują, że wzrostowi negatywnych emocji nie musi towarzyszyć pogorszenie takich cech jak optymizm i satysfakcja z życia. Wyniki wskazują zatem obszary, które powinny zostać objęte wsparciem, oraz obszary stanowiące zasoby, na których można się oprzeć.

The generalized Korteweg-de Varies-Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation (gKdV-ZK) in (3+1)-dimension has been investigated in this research. This model is used to elucidate how a magnetic field affects the weak ion-acoustic wave in the field of plasma physics. To deftly analyze the wide range of wave structures, we utilized the modified extended tanh and the extended rational sinh-cosh methods. Hyperbolic, periodic, and travelling wave solutions are presented as the results. Consequently, solitary wave solutions are also attained. This study shows that the solutions reported here are distinctive when our findings are contrasted against well-known outcomes. Moreover, realized findings are figured out in 3-dimensional, 2-dimensional, and contour profile graphs for the reader to comprehend their dynamics due to parameter selection. According to the findings, we can conclude that the suggested computational techniques are simple, dynamic, and well-organized. These methods are very functional for numerical calculations of complex nonlinear problems. Our results include a fundamental starting point in understanding physical behavior and the structure of the studied systems.

Opis:
Early detection of damage is necessary for the safe and reliable use of civil engineering structures made of concrete. Recently, the identification of micro-cracks in concrete has become an area of growing interest, especially when it comes to using wave-based techniques. In this paper, a non-destructive testing approach for the characterization of the fracture process was presented. Experimental tests were performed on concrete beams subjected to mechanical degradation in a 3-point bending test. Ultrasonic waves were registered on a specimen surface by piezoelectric transducers located at several points. Then, the signals were processed taking advantage of wave scattering due to micro-crack disturbances. For early-stage damage detection, coda wave interferometry was used. The novelty of the work concerns the application of the complex decorrelation matrix and the moving reference trace approach for better distinguishment of sensors located in different parts of a crack zone. To enhance coda wave-based damage identification results, optical imaging of crack development was performed by means of digital image correlation measurement. The results obtained showed that the coda wave interferometry technique can be successfully used as a quantitative measure of changes in the structure of concrete. The results also indicated that the course of decorrelation coefficient curves enabled the identification of three stages during degradation, and it depended on the location of acquisition points versus the crack zone.

Potentially hazardous side-channels of complex geometry need to be investigated using detailed hydraulic physical models. This study aims to analyse the cross-waves pattern and pulsating flow using a side-channel spillway physical model. This study compares the cross-waves pattern were measured using an experimental installation set to generate cross-waves on the surface (original series) with another structure that did not produce cross-waves (modified series). The results showed that the geometry of the left wall caused instability in flow patterns and secondary flows. The starting point of Q2 discharge was detected by minor turbulence on the water surface near the left wall at a water depth of 3.3 m at the starting point of the wall, but with no overtopping. Cross-waves formed downstream at the right wall crosswise, lower than at the left wall. The height of the cross-wave increased substantially from Q100 to Q1000 discharges leading to overtoppings near the left wall at a water depths of 4.2 and 5.0 m at the starting point of the wall, and near the right wall at a water depths of 3.8 and 4.0 m at the upstream point of the wall. The modifications provided optimal hydraulic conditions, i.e. elimination of cross-waves and non-uniform flows. The Vedernikov and Montouri numbers showed that both original and modified series did not enter the area where the pulsating flow occurred. This indicated that both series were free from the pulsating flow.

Ojciec kardynał Raniero Cantalamessa przedstawia cztery okresy ewangelizacji, które miały miejsce w historii Kościoła. Nazywa je „falami ewangelizacji”, wskazując, że te niezwykłe okresy ewangelizacji są przypomnieniem początków Kościoła. Ich pojawienie się wiąże się z pojawieniem się nowej grupy odbiorców niezaznajomionych z przesłaniem Ewangelii. Analiza Cantalamessy wskazuje, że faktyczną przekazywaną im treścią jest kerygmat. Odpowiedniej refleksji duszpasterskiej wymaga także wybór keryksu, który ma skutecznie docierać do odbiorców z orędziem zbawienia. Cztery „fale ewangelizacji” są zdaniem włoskiego teologa powrotem do ewangelizacji kerygmatycznej.
Father Raniero Cardinal Cantalamessa presents four periods of evangelization that have taken place in the history of the Church. He refers to them as „waves of evangelization”, indicating that these extraordinary periods of evangelization are reminiscences of the beginnings of the Church. Their appearance is related to the emergence of a new group of recipients unfamiliar with the message of the Gospel. Cantalamessa’s analysis indicates that the actual content conveyed to them is the kerygma. Appropriate pastoral reflection is also required by the choice of a keryx who is to effectively reach the recipients with the message of salvation. The four „waves of evangelization” are, according to the Italian theologian, a return to kerygmatic evangelization.

The author focused on two analytical strands, i.e. on the stages of normative redefinition, which became the axis of the formation of a new ideology.

To obtain the mechanical energy of waves from arbitrary directions, the vibration absorbers of wave energy converters (WEC) are usually vertically axisymmetric. In such case, the wave-body interaction hydrodynamics is an essential research topic to obtain high-efficiency wave energy. In this paper, a semi-analytical method of decomposing the complex axisymmetric boundary into several ring-shaped stepped surfaces based upon the boundary approximation method (BAM) is introduced and examined. The hydrodynamic loads and parameters, such as the wave excitation forces, added mass and radiation damping of the vertical axisymmetric oscillating buoys, can then be achieved by using the new boundary discretisation method. The calculations of the wave forces and hydrodynamic coefficients show good convergence with the number of discretisation increases. Comparison between the constringent results and the results of the conventional method also verifies the feasibility of the method. Then, simulations and comparisons of the hydrodynamic forces, motions and wave power conversions of the buoys with series draught and displacement ratios in regular and irregular waves are conducted. The calculation results show that the geometrical shape has a great effect on the hydrodynamic and wave power conversion performance of the absorber. In regular waves, though the concave buoy has the lowest wave conversion efficiency, it has the largest frequency bandwidth for a given draught ratio, while in irregular waves, for a given draught ratio, the truncated cylindrical buoy has the best wave power conversion, and for a given displacement of the buoy, the concave buoy shows the best wave power conversion ability.

Water is widely used in the mining industry, particularly in mineral enrichment processes. In the process of magnetic separation or flotation of crushed ore, a concentrate (an enriched product), and tailings (a product with a low content of a useful component) are obtained. One of the main tasks of enrichment processes is the efficient use of water resources. This is achieved by reclaiming and subsequent reusing water contained in ore beneficiation products by extracting it in industrial thickeners. Optimizing this process makes it possible to reduce water usage in the mining industry, reduce costs of mineral enrichment processes, and address extremely urgent environmental protection problems. To evaluate the process of sedimentation of the solid phase in the pulp within the thickener, measurements of parameters of longitudinal ultrasonic oscillations and Lamb waves that have traveled a fixed distance in the pulp and along the measuring surface in contact with it are used. The proposed approach allows for the consideration of pulp density, particle size of the solid phase in the ore material and the dynamics of changes in these parameters in the thickener at the initial stage of the sedimentation process. Based on the obtained values, adjustments can be made to the characteristics of its initial product, leading to reduced water usage and minimized loss of a useful component.

The study investigated the effect of the fill factor, lattice constant, and the shape and type of meta-atom material on the reduction of mechanical wave transmission in quasi-two-dimensional phononic structures. A finite difference algorithm in the time domain was used for the analysis, and the obtained time series were converted into the frequency domain using the discrete Fourier transform. The use of materials with large differences in acoustic impedance allowed to determine the influence of the meta-atom material on the propagation of the mechanical wave.

Opis:
Graphite-epoxy composites have been able to meet the multiple requirements of the space industry. However, the radiation from the spatial environment and non-perfect adhesion between the fibers and the matrix can lead to the appearance of imperfections. To handle this, we use non-destructive testing by ultrasonic guided waves known for its high accuracy in detecting defects. In this article, we study the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in a graphite-epoxy composite plate by the spectral method. First, the mathematical formalism is explained for modeling guided waves in the composite material. Next, we plot the dispersion curves of the composite plate in different orientations of the fibers with a MATLAB program and the results are compared with those of the DISPERSE software. These give us information on the modes that propagate in the structure. We elaborate and explain a technique based on displacement symmetry to distinguish between the different modes. A discussion based on time-saving and accuracy is established to show the advantages of the method. The second part of our paper consists in giving a physical meaning to the spectral displacements normalized in amplitude. We propose to normalize the spectral eigenvectors by the acoustic power. We plot the displacement and stress profiles of the guided modes and we compare our results to the analytical ones. Perfect correspondence is found, indicating the accuracy of the approach developed. In addition, a study of the vibrational state in the composite plate is established for Lamb and horizontal shear modes at a specific frequency.

The COVID-19 pandemic undoubtedly has had a negative impact on human psychological wellbeing, as confirmed by numerous studies. Positive psychology identifies optimism and life satisfaction as important factors having to do with the psychological wellbeing of individuals. This article aims to diagnose the level of optimism and life satisfaction of Poles during the 2nd and 4th waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to identify predictors of optimistic life orientation and life satisfaction in terms of demographic variables. The study was conducted on a group of 1,095 people using the snowball method, via social media. The results confirm a reduction in the level of optimism and life satisfaction of Poles during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, the research confirms that resources such as marriage, having children, good education and stable work enhance a person’s level of psychological wellbeing and become a guarantee for better coping during the pandemic.

The article shows the inadequacy of understanding micro-objects in terms of the ontologies of substantial individual beings and the irreducible metaphorically of such concepts as “particle”, “wave” or “individual object”. An attempt was made to construct the concept of a quantum object as a conceptual blend, using the blending theory.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has wreaked havoc especially in 2020 and the first half of 2021 and has left severe after-effects affecting not only the health sector but also all aspects of human life. The aim of this study is to inspect the current trends of the quantities of household waste produced during the first four waves of the pandemic. The study was carried out in Guelma city, northeastern of Algeria, where the first containment was registered on February 25, 2020, it concerns an Italian national (Mohamed et al. 2021). An increase in the production of household waste of approximately 14% during the first containment was recorded in the study area, with the interruption of recycling, which caused an enormous pressure on the technical landfill center of Guelma. The results showed that the trend of waste production decreased at the following averages: 205.80; 198.92; 196.69 and 192.43 tons, for the first four waves of COVID-19 respectively. Therefore, a return to the pre-pandemic state would be close, which dampens the impact and pressure on the landfill and the environment. This research allows for perceiving the waste management status in Algeria, between the pandemic and post-pandemic period.

Background Workloads of emergency medical service personnel (EMP) and emergency control center dispatchers (CCDs) were manifold. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic presented new challenges for the prehospital emergency medical service. The purpose of this study was to compare the status of stress/strain and recovery of Recovery-Stress Questionnaire among EMP and CCDs in Germany during the first 2 waves of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic both between occupational groups and over time. Material and Methods A total of 2426 emergency medical service personnel and control center dispatchers were questioned with the Recovery-Stress Questionnaire based on Kallus. The results from the first 2 waves of the pandemic (June–August 2020 and January–February 2021) were compared. Results During the first and second wave of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the subjectively perceived stress of emergency medical service personnel and control center dispatchers increased, but recovery decreased. The CCDs showed more unfavorable values compared to EMP. Conclusions Health promotion interventions are necessary to counteract possible career changes or mental or other diseases due to insufficient management.

Opis:
The primary purpose of the paper is to identify port areas most exposed to extreme hydrodynamic conditions (waves, sea currents, seabed level change). The results of modelling using SWAN wave model, MIKE 3D model, and reanalysis and measurement data were used in paper. Swell may exceed 0.8 m for winds exceeding 15 m s-1 from the west and south. During extreme conditions, sea currents can reach 0.4 ms-1 in the outer part of the bay adjacent to the port. Port basins do not show changes in the thickness of the seabed for the given maximum values of bottom currents. The most extensive deposition of the seabed and shore sediments (up to 0.04 m) is found on the Gdynia-Oksywie beach adjacent to the port and the approach fairway at the offshore currents. The outer area of the main breakwater is the most exposed to erosive activity (-0.012 m).
