Opis:
Current power grid and market development, characterized by large growth of distributed energy sources in recent years, especially in Europa, are according energy storage systems an increasingly larger field of implementation. Existing storage technologies, e.g. pumped-storage power plants, have to be upgraded and extended by new but not yet commercially viable technologies (e.g. batteries or adiabatic compressed air energy storage) that meet expected demands. Optimal sizing of storage systems and technically and economically optimal operating strategies are the major challenges to the integration of such systems in the future smart grid. This paper surveys firstly the literature on the latest niche applications. Then, potential new use case and operating scenarios for energy storage systems in smart grids, which have been field tested, are presented and discussed and subsequently assessed technically and economically.

There has been a big increase in production and investments in wind turbines and wind farms in last 20 years. New generation of wind turbines is more reliable than from 1980’s are, which necessary condition is energy production is to play an important role among renewable energy sources. Over the last 30 years, the size of wind turbines increased 7 times, as nominal power increased nearly 14 times. At present, turbines capable of producing over 10 MW of power are being developed. The main reason for continued growth of turbines sizes is to minimize the energy cost per kilowatt-hour. However, it is worth remembering that according to the „square-cube law”, there is a maximum size after the surpassing of witch the cost of ever-larger turbines would grow faster than financial gain from the increased size. In this article, authors present energy storage methods and devices for wind power plants and cost-effectiveness of the individual energy storage methods. Authors also present data about energy storage efficiency and groups of energy storage devices for wind power plants such as: compressed-air power stations + gas turbine (CAES), utilizing underground wells, pumped storage power plants, rechargeable batteries (lithium-ion, lead-acid, sodium sulphur, VRB, zinc-flow, zinc-air, zinc-air), flywheels, hydrogen production and storage systems, superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES), electrostatic storage – electrolytic capacitors.

Since paradigm shift from thick clients to thin ones and through growing requisition of remote services we have been facing continuous evolution of web applications. Standards and approaches of building HTML clients have been changing and now one of the biggest challenges for web application developers is issue related to clientside data storage. This paper applies to new technologies specified recently by World Wide Web Consortium. These specifications refer to new methods of storing data in web clients, which can be accessed via JavaScript in modern web browsers. In addition, the paper introduces a design and a reference implementation of a framework for Java language and Java Server Pages technology that simplifies implementation of web based applications with client-side storage. The framework is designed for integrating Java language with above mentioned new W3C specifications to create more powerful, modern, thin client web applications easily, without a need of knowledge of implementation details of JavaScript API for new technologies but using only Java language. The framework can be used to build thin clients, including mobile web-based clients that may replace not –portable, native mobile applications.

The climate change is probably the greatest challenge humanity is facing today. In order to protect future generations from the catastrophic effects of the process, actions to achieve climate neutrality are being taken worldwide. These actions include development of renewable energy sources. Renewable energy depends on weather conditions, which results in a mismatch between supply and demand for energy. Use of energy storage is the technical solution to minimize this issue. The paper presents topics related to the potential storing of surplus electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the form of compressed air. The article also shows worldwide solutions for energy storage using compressed air. As part of the work, three variants of a warehouse consisting of standardly available pneumatic units were considered. The conducted analyzes made it possible to determine the energy efficiency of such a system. It can be observed that greater efficiency is achieved by using large flow compressors and the operation of the pneumatic motor at a higher supply pressure. In addition, it can also be said that the greatest losses are associated with the operation of the compressor, which generates large amounts of heat during operation. Increasing the efficiency of the energy storage system can be achieved by utilizing the heat generated in the compression process.

The energy sector is a majorarea that is responsible for the country development. Almost 40% of the total energy requirement of an EU country is consumed by the building sector and 60% of which is only used for heating and cooling requirements. This is a prime concern as fossil fuel stocks are depleting and global warming is rising. This is where thermal energy storage can play a major role and reduce the dependence on the use of fossil fuels for energy requirements (heating and cooling) of the building sector. Thermal energy storage refers to the technology which is related to the transfer and storage of heat energy predominantly from solar radiation, alternatively to the transfer and storage of cold from the environment to maintain a comfortable temperature for the inhabitants in the buildings by providing cold in the summer and heat in the winter. This work is an extensive study on the use of thermal energy storage in buildings. It discusses different methods of implementing thermal energy storage into buildings, specifically the use of phase change materials, and also highlights the challenges and opportunities related to implementing this technology. Moreover, this work explains the principles of different types and methods involved in thermal energy storage.

Thermal energy storage can be defined as temporary storage of heat energy at low or high temperatures. The development and innovative solutions of the thermal energy storage technology can, in the long-term, mitigate the negative impact on the environment and facilitate more energy-efficient exploitation of thermal energy systems. The main goal in thermal energy storage systems is to store the solar heat accumulated during the summer for heating in winter. The concept of such use of solar energy is not new, because it has already been developed and improved over the centuries, where it has played an important role in energy saving and significantly contributed to the improvement of energy efficiency and reduction of gas emissions to the atmosphere. The article presents the types of heat storages with particular emphasis on BTESstorage systems with examples of their applications.

Opis:
Of the various types of geologic formations, depleting oil and gas reservoirs has the highest near-termpotential for CO2 storing. This is due to verified trapping security and the strong base of industrial experience with injecting gases into depleted reservoirs. Saline aquifers are not fully recognized and consequently the risk of the leakage to the surface is higher for saline aquifers then for oil and gas reservoirs. In the paper, the brief characterization of the oil and gas fields in Poland have been presented in the context of CO2 storing. The estimated storage potentials have been calculated formany fields with the use of the mass balance technique. The paper presents selected statistical properties of the results and correlations between reservoir conditions and storage potential. It was found that the storage capacity for most of the known depleted reservoirs was not huge but still interesting, especially for smaller power and chemical plants.
Wśród różnych typów formacji geologicznych możliwych do wykorzystania w procesie sekwestracji geologicznej, sczerpane złoża węglowodorów mają największe możliwości wykorzystania do składowania CO2.

Opis:
Underground Thermal Energy Storage (UTES) is a powerful set of solutions that allows efficient management of thermal energy sources, both heat and cold, the demand of which is subjected to seasonal variations. Underground can store available in excess heat or cold for periods of up to several months and use whenever needed, especially in the opposing season. Sources of thermal energy that can be stored underground are, among others: solar thermal energy, cold winter air, waste heat from ventilation and waste heat from industrial processes. Two primary methods of under ground energy storage are Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) where water reservoir is a thermal energy accumulator and Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) where rock formation acts as a heat/cold store. UTES allows to minimizing consumption of fossil fuels and therefore reduce costs of energy purchase, limiting the amount of greenhouse gases emission into atmosphere, and increasing energy security.

Opis:
Kinematical, electromechanical energy accumulator is a facility that converts supplied electrical energy to the kinetic one, stored in the rotating inertial system. Electric driving motors can operate both as a propulsion units, providing torque to the rotor shaft, and as generators in the course of braking. The prototype is designed to operate in a vacuum; the energy accumulator is located in a sealed pressurized vessel connected to the apparatus, which can generate vacuum pressure down to 1 Pa. The accumulator is destined for storage energy of 7.2 MJ at a speed of up to 20,000 1 / min. The energy accumulator is equipped with inert weight in the form of metal disc, connected to a composite band. In the course of operation, the rotor assembly is suspended in noncontact manner in housing assembly while the main body is fastened to the inner ring of the pressure vessel. The rotor consists of a shaft on which are mounted: a metal disc together with a band made of carbon fibre, inset into inert weight using epoxy resin; four disc rotors of two electric motors; two disks which are magnetic armature for electromagnetic bearings operating along the shaft axis; bushings of both sleeve bearings; fixing sleeves, washers and lock nuts to fix particular elements on the shaft. During normal operation the rotor is positioned in the radial direction through two electromagnetic bearings, top and bottom, located at both ends of shaft and operating in the differential arrangement, and in the axial direction - by a system of two eight-pole electromagnetic bearings. In the idle state rotor is based on the spherical tip of the mobile support and on the raceway of slide bearing located in the top cover. The prototype facility is designed to carry out performance tests, both under normal conditions of pressure and temperature and in vacuum environment, of: electromagnetic bearings, start-up/emergency devices, functional integration of all components and air tightness of tubing inside the tank. Measurement of radial and axial clearances between the rotor elements and housing for full speed range will be completed also.

Zmiennymi niezależnymi były: miejsce przechowywania, kształt próbki i okres przechowywania. Przeprowadzono testy Duncana i wyodrębniono grupy homogeniczne. Podjęto próbę opisania zmian jędrności badanych owoców od okresu przechowywania i wyodrębniono krzywą teoretyczną o najlepszym stopniu dopasowania do rzeczywistych wyników.
The paper presents an estimation of changes of apples firmness during storage in various conditions. Apples were stored in a cold-room and in a cellar. The apple firmness tests were carried out on an MTS strength tester connected to a computer. The tests consisted in the measurement of the values of strength and deformation in the range of destructive deformation. Additionally the hardness of skin was tested in puncture tests. Analysis of the results was conducted by means of multifactorial analysis test with multiple repetitions for all compression tests and measurements of firmness. The independent variables were the place of storage, the shape of sample and the period of storage. The Duncan test showed homogenous groups. The changes of firmness and period of storage were described and the theoretical curves with the best fit to the actual results. The maximum values of force in the compression tests and in the apple skin puncture tests were determined. In the case of apples stored in the cold-room December was the decisive month when a slow down of the firmness changes was observed. The largest changes of apple skin strength were noted for the samples stored in the cellar.

Opis:
This paper is a review of recent results in theory of dams. Only continuous-time models are considered, the dam capacity being assumed to be infinite. The results are given for the following cases: (1) The input is a process with independent increments, and release is at a constant rate; (2) the input and output processes have infinitely divisible distributions; (3) the input is a process with independent increments, and the release rate is equal to r(x), where x denotes the content of the dam; (4) the input is a semi-Markov process, and the output rate is r(x); (5) the input and output are semi-Markov processes. The bibliography includes 88 items.

According to Polish legislation, energy storage facilities are fully-fledged participants in the electricity market. The regulations in force are, however, insufficient and do not translate into the business models that would foster investments in storage in various segments of the market – prosumer, industrial and commercial as well as large-scale. This article presents the current European and Polish regulations concerning the energy storage facilities and the services that such storage may provide to the electric power system. Moreover, it points out the need for a sectoral agreement to be concluded on the development of energy storage in Poland with the aim of establishing conditions for the growth of this domestic industrial sector.

Data management and monitoring is an important issue in scientific computation. Scientists want to access their data as quickly as possible. Some experiments need to store a lot of data which have to be secure. By saying this we mean that this data can not disappear or be damaged also the data storage should be as cheap as possible. In this paper we present an approach to the automation of monitoring and management of data storage. We introduce a knowledge based system which is able to manage data, i.e., make decisions on migrating data, replicating or removing it. We discuss some of the existing solutions which are popular on the market. In this paper we aim to present our system which uses such AI techniques like fuzzy logic or a rule-based expert system to deal with data storage management. We exploit in this system a cost model to analyze the proposed solutions. The operations performed by our system are aimed to optimize the usage of the monitored infrastructure.

The aim of the research is comparison between average order picking times obtained using the analytical model and simulation methods for shared storage systems. We also compare the results obtained with the results obtained for dedicated storage. We assume the random and ABC-class storage (with within and across aisle storage policies). We select the locations by means of the TOPSIS method for two take-out strategies: quantity adjustment (QA) and priority of partial units (PPU). We determine the route by using s-shape and return heuristics. In most cases, the simulated average order picking times are shorter than the analytical ones. It results from not considering the criteria’ weights in calculation of the analytical order picking time. Also, the results for shared storage with QA strategy are in most cases better than for dedicated storage. This might imply an advantage of shared over dedicated storage, but needs further confirmation.

The article presents some considerations for storage systems related to the logistics of production. In the article have been discussed problems with randomness, complexity and forecasting behavior of the storage systems. The main thesis is the assertion that there is one general definition of complexity, which arises from the need to take into account the context of each reflection on it in research. Shows two examples containing stochastic problems in estimating demand in connection with the storage system. Article finished proposals.

Opis:
Since energy storage is a basic metabolic process, the synthesis of neutral lipids occurs in all kingdoms of life. The yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, widely accepted as a model eukaryotic cell, contains two classes of neutral lipids, namely steryl esters and triacylglycerols. Triacylglycerols are synthesized through two pathways governed by the acyl-CoA diacylglycerol acyltransferase Dga1p and the phospholipid diacylglycerol acyltransferase Lro1p, respectively. Steryl esters are formed by the two steryl ester synthases Are1p and Are2p, two enzymes with overlapping function which also catalyze triacylglycerol formation, although to a minor extent. Storage of neutral lipids is tightly linked to the biogenesis of so called lipid particles. The role of this compartment in lipid homeostasis and its interplay with other organelles involved in neutral lipid dynamics, especially the endoplasmic reticulum and the plasma membrane, are subject of current investigations. In contrast to neutral lipid formation, mobilization of triacylglycerols and steryl esters in yeast are less characterized at the molecular level. Only recently, the triacylglycerol lipase Tgl3p was identified as the first yeast enzyme of this kind by function. Genes and gene products governing steryl ester mobilization still await identification. Besides biochemical properties of enzymes involved in yeast neutral lipid synthesis and degradation, regulatory aspects of these pathways and cell biological consequences of neutral lipid depletion will be discussed in this minireview.

Water-table levels in the Kamienna River drainage basin, SE Poland, are presently measured at 14 observation points within the groundwater observation-research network of the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute, included in the monitoring programme during the period 1979–2007. They exhibit multi-year changes in groundwater storage near the observation points. The best documented cycle is that for the period 1982–2002, observed in the wells monitoring water in fractured-karstic formations, where the amplitude of the water-table level was 45 m at that time. The retention balance in the cycle was negative. At the beginning of the cycle, the water table in the fractured-karstic aquifers was 1.40 to 1.94 m higher than at the end. Further observations of the multi-year changes in retention will be the basis for possible corrections to calculations of groundwater resources in this drainage basin, as well as for model predictions of resources, performed for water management in connection with potential climate change.

The article presents the mechanical design of the machine, describes the choice of structural elements and actuators, and develops the control system with an algorithm using Raspberry Pi. Furthermore, an interface based on a touch-screen display cooperating with a single board computer was designed. One of the key features of the device is its modularity and the individual configurability of the storage module, depending on available storage space where an automated storage and retrieval system is to be installed: vertically - by defining the number of containers in width and height, horizontally - by defining the number of containers in width and depth, horizontally and vertically - by defining the number of containers in width and depth, and modules responsible for storage in height. The final stage of the project consisted in verifying the designed solution in tests on a prototype storage device. More precisely, it was tested on a machine prepared for a particular customer and a chosen configuration, which is a combination of the triune manipulator of vertical storage controlled in an open loop.

Opis:
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to its extremely favorable properties is considered to be one of the most convenient sources of energy, both the transport, storage and distribution. However, these same properties, and factors which represent the LNG as convenient, such as: a very low temperature (-162 degrees of Celsius), a very large increase in the volume of the evaporation (about 600 times) and also create a potential threats The greatest potential threats are in areas where LNG is a very large quantities for a long period of time. The facts presented above show that there is potentially the greatest threat to the storage of LNG. Leaks, clouds LNG vapor, explosions, low temperature, and "rollover" are the most dangerous potential hazards that occur during storage of LNG. Each of these risks can be avoided. This is achieved by the use of appropriate materials for tanks and equipment, as well as the proper and adequate execution of engineering design at each stage of technology. Proper selection of vessel design and materials, and the use of appropriate methods of combining them decide on a safe and long life tanks.

This paper proposes four different cost-effective configurations of a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) in an electric city bus. A comparison is presented between a battery powered bus (battery bus) and supercapacitor powered bus in two configurations in terms of initial and operational costs. The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery type was used in the battery bus and three of the hybrids. In the first hybrid the battery module was the same size as in the battery bus, in the second it was half the size and in the third it was one third the size. The fourth hybrid used a lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC) battery type with the same energy as the LFP battery module in the battery bus. The model of LFP battery degradation is used in the calculation of its lifetime range and operational costs. For the NMC battery and supercapacitor, the manufacturers’ data have been adopted. The results show that it is profitable to use HESS in an electric city bus from both the producer and consumer point of view. The reduction of battery size and added supercapacitor module generates up to a 36% reduction of the initial energy storage system (ESS) price and up to a 29% reduction of operational costs when compared to the battery ESS. By using an NMC battery type in HESS, it is possible to reduce operational costs by up to 50% compared to an LFP battery ESS.

Solar collectors and photovoltaic panels are devices widely used for heating water for both heating and domestic purposes. Due to the variable nature of solar radiation, it is advisable to include in solar energy-based systems thermal storages that accumulate energy at times of overproduction and discharge it at times of demand. In this paper, we present the results of simulation research to compare the possibility of two different charging systems for a 24000 m3 seasonal pit thermal energy storage (PTES). The first uses electricity generated by photovoltaic panels and converted to heat in an electrode boiler to charge the heat store. The second is utilising a solar collector for this purpose. Based on the simulation calculations carried out in TRNSYS 18, it can be concluded that, from an investment perspective, a system based on solar collectors is more cost-effective. In addition, the installation takes up less space compared to a photovoltaic panel farm.

The article presents issues related to technical and economic optimization of filling underground gas storage in salt cavern (CUGS) on the example of Mogilno. Operation practice suggests that the first step is to inject the caverns with a high convergence, then with smaller and at the end caverns with the smallest convergence. In the withdraw process, the situation is reversed. On the other hand, the gas injection into the deepest caverns requires more compressor power. Optimization that takes into account only the speed of storage caverns convergence is not ideal. While injecting gas into storage caverns, compressors typically use about 1–3% of the transported gas, depending on the management of compressors operation. Taking into account the amount of gas supplied to the CUGS Mogilno, the cost of fuel gas that is used can be significant. In the liberalized gas market an underground gas storage operator will have to account carefully and buy fuel gas at market prices. These facts raise an important question: how to manage the operation, in a free gas market in the most efficient way which affects the profitability service storage provision in underground gas storage in salt caverns. This paper presents the optimization model, developed by the authors, that minimizes the consumption of fuel gas, while preventing overdependence loss of underground salt caverns volume, during the gas injecting process into storage caverns.

Opis:
One of the main intentions of the European Union is to create common and liberalizated market of natural gas in Europe. Actions has been taken in this area for a few years, however achived effects do not reach the aims that were assumed at the beginning. The quantity of natural gas consumption in the European Union during last years is characterized by a declining tendency (decreasing usage of natural gas in power sector, higher temperature during autumn and winter season also infulences on limiting of natural gas demand), in 2012 the consumption was forming on the level of 444 billion m3, and for example in 2008 it amounted to 497 billion m3. The regulations concerning the natural gas market embrace all of the elements which have an impact on building consolidated and liberalizated market, it means: transfer, distribution and LNG, storage. The authors of this article wants to draw one's attention to the particular role of underground gas storages and depict change of the tasks, which they have to fulfill on the liberalizating market of natural gas in Europe (ie. Price arbitration). The purpose of this article is to presentthe current situation on the market of storage services, which means available storage capacities, the level of their usage and plans regarding extension and constructing of new capacities.

Techniques related to elimination of environmental pollution are divided into two main trends. These are primary and secondary solutions. Primary solutions are based on the creation / selection of technologies that do not emit pollutants, secondary solutions are used in the situation that pollutants are already generated. Elimination is made by selected technological processes. When using residential, office or industrial buildings, emissions are primarily associated with the use of energy carriers such as electricity, heat or cold. During electricity production, pollution is related mostly to the atmosphere degradation. Thus, any solution that reduces energy consumption or improves the energy efficiency of buildings is the primary method of environment protection. This article proposes and investigates an idea of cold storage system based on an adsorbent bed (silica gel), which aims to reduce the energy consumption of the domestic air conditioning system. As a result of experimental research, it was shown that for a building with a volume of 1000m 3 and multiples of air exchanges at 0.5 level, a silica gel bed with a volume of 1.63 m3 is required in order to continuously unload the air conditioning system for 8 hours (while outside air temperature exceeding 25oC).

Opis:
The processes of growth and development as well as the yield quality of crops depend on the abundance of soil nutrients and the ability of the plants to uptake nutrients. Nutrients can be taken up more efficiently after application of a biostimulant. The effect of biostimulants depends on the content of their active substance as well as the dose, timing and frequency of their application. In 2009-2011, a controlled field experiment was conducted in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Province (53°13′N; 17°51′E). The objective was to analyse the effect of the timing and doses of foliar application of the biostimulants: Kelpak SL (seaweed extract containing phytohormones) and Asahi SL (a mixture of phenolic compounds) on the content of macroelements: Mg, P, Ca, N, Na and K in the storage roots of carrot directly after harvest and after storage (for 6 months in chambers with controlled conditions: temp. +1°C, Rh 95%). Kelpak SL was applied once in a dose of 3 or 2 dm3 ha-1, twice in doses of 3+2 dm3 ha-1 or 2+2 dm3 ha-1 at intervals of two or four weeks, as well as three times in doses 3+2+2 dm3 ha-1 or 2+2+2 dm3 ha-1, every two weeks. Asahi SL was applied twice in doses 0.5+0.5 dm3 ha-1,at a two-week interval. The first application of biostimulants was always performed at the 4-leaf stage. The study showed that the biostimulants Kelpak SL and Asahi SL, irrespective of the dose and frequency of application, increased the N concentration in the carrot roots. An increase in the Mg, P, Na and K concentrations was observed after a single application of Kelpak SL in a dose of 2 dm3 ha-1, and in the Ca concentration after a dose of 3 dm3 ha-1. Asahi SL did not affect the Mg, P, Ca and Na concentrations but increased the K content in the roots. After storage, the content of Mg, Na and K decreased, whereas the concentration of P, Ca and N did not change. Directly after harvest and after storage, positive correlation between N and K and between N and Na, as well as between Na and K was indicated.

This article discusses the measurement of hydrogen storage capacity in Ca72Mg28 alloy that has been produced by melt spinning. The alloy has an amorphous structure in which there is an assumption of hydrogen storage of acceptable concentration. The research is to analyse the possibility of desorption of the gas without recrystallization of the alloy. Subsequently, the problem of reversible hydrogen storage is examined at temperatures between 410–450 °C in the pressure range 0 to 3.5 MPa. This paper deals with the indirect determination of the amount of heat generated in the absorption of hydrogen by using the calorimetric method. In the conclusion there is a comparison of the storage capacity of hydrogen in the amorphous and crystalline structure of the alloy.

Opis:
The nutritive value and wholesomeness of carrot are highly appreciated owing to such biologically active compounds as carotenoids, vitamin C and mineral compounds found in its roots. In 2007-2009, field experiments were performed on the effect of foliar fertilisation of carrot with magnesium sulphate during its vegetative growth on selected nutrients (total carotenoids, vitamin C, mineral magnesium). The field experiment was set up in a splitplot design with three replications on light soil, of slightly acid reaction, low in available P and K forms and very low in Mg. Magnesium was applied in rates of 0, 45 and 90 kg MgO ha–1 by spraying carrot plants with a 3% solution during their intensive growth in the vegetative season, accompanied by constant N, P, K fertilisation. The experiment involved five carrot cultivars: medium-late Berjo, and late Flacoro, Karotan, Koral and Perfekcja, all characterized by good storage life. The content of selected nutrients in carrot roots was determined immediately after harvest and after six-month storage in a traditional earthen mound. Foliar application of magnesium significantly increased the nutritive value of roots of the carrot cultivars after harvest, raising the content of total carotenoids, vitamin C and magnesium in edible parts. The rate of 45 kg MgO ha–1 was most favourable. The sixmonth root storage led to a decrease in the biologically active compounds. The recorded loss (mean for cultivars and fertilisation) reached 20% of carotenoids, 50% of vitamin C and 1% of magnesium. The highest nutritive value was determined for roots of the cultivars Karotan and Perfekcja and the lowest one in roots of cv. Flacoro.
Największą wartość odżywczą miały korzenie odmian Karotan i Perfekcja, a najmniejszą Flacoro.

Opis:
The longevity of cut leaves in flower arrangements is an important commercial consideration in horticultural practices. Here we report on the effect of short-term cold storage, in combination with a cytokinin treatment, on the post harvest longevity of cut leaves of Hosta ‘Minima Glauca’ and Hosta ‘Golden Tiara’. Cut leaves were stored dry or wet in polyethylene bags for 2 or 4 days in darkness or in light at 6°C and then transferred to 20°C where their vase life was compared with those of freshly cut leaves. Storage length and method affected the vase life of detached leaves of both Hosta cultivars; however, reduced longevity of leaves in storage could not be attributed to a single parameter of the storage conditions. Pulse conditioning with a cytokinin benzyladenine was effective in prolonging vase life both in non stored and stored leaves, in the latter increasing it 2.5-fold as compared to untreated leaves. Practical implications are that cold storage can be successfully used for cut Hosta leaves but only in combination with a BA pretreatment.

Opis:
Storage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) is one of the most important processes taking place during liquefaction which is also significant for the regasification and receiving terminals operation. The task of the tanks lies not only in the safe storage of gas, but also in preventing its evaporation related, among others, to the heat transfer through the walls and roof of the tank. Even a small quantity of heat flowing to the LNG increases its internal energy, conseąuently leading to the evaporation of a certain quantity of LNG. Phase transitions of even small amounts of liquid may cause changes in the composition of both LNG and its density, which may contribute to the formation of stratification of liquefied gas. The geometric parameters of the storage tanks have a very large impact on the amount of heat penetrating the tank: with the increase of its size the surface area of heat transfer increases, too. The dependence of heat penetrating the tank, its geometrie dimensions and the effect of temperature on the stability of the stored LNG are discussed in this paper .

Finite fossil fuel resources, as well as the instability of renewable energy production, make the sustainable management of energy production and consumption some of the key challenges of the 21st century. It also involves threats to the state of the natural environment, among others due to the negative impact of energy on the climate. In such a situation, one of the methods of improving the efficiency of energy management – both on the micro (dispersed energy) and macro (power system) scale, may be innovative technological solutions that enable energy storage. Their effective implementation will allow it to be collected during periods of overproduction and to be used in situations of scarcity. These challenges cannot be overestimated - modern science has a challenge to solve various types of problems related to storage, including the technology used or the control/ /management of energy storage. Heat storage technologies, on which research works are carried out regarding both storage based on a medium such as water, as well as storage using thermochemical transformations or phase-change materials. They give a wide range of applications and improve the efficiency of energy systems on both the macro and micro scale. Of course, the technological properties and economic parameters have an impact on the application of the chosen technology. The article presents a comparison of storage parameters or heat storage methods based on different materials with specification of their work parameters or operating costs.

The results of studies investigating the effects of storage time and temperature on variations in Poisson ratio of the skin of two greenhouse tomato varieties – Admiro and Encore were presented. In the initial period of the study, Poisson ratio of the skin of tomato fruit cv. Admiro, stored at 13°C, varied between 0.7 and 0.8. After the successive 10 days of the experiment, it decreased to approximately 0.6 and was stabilized until the end of study. By contrast, the skin of tomatoes cv. Encore was characterized by lower values and lower variability of Poisson ratio in the range of 0.4 to 0.5 during storage. The examinations involving tomato fruit cv. Admiro stored at 21°C were completed after 12 days due to fruit softening and progressive difficulty with preparing analytical specimens. The value of Poisson ratio for both varieties stored at roomtemperature fluctuated throughout the experiment to approximate 0.5.
