Opis:
The developed modal method for analyzing oscillating static stability of power systems is based on eigenvalues and eigenvectors. As a mathematical model to the study we use a system of linearized differential equations that describe the behaviour of synchronous machines and their excitation systems during minor disturbances. This approach allows us to analyse the static stability of large power systems, evaluate stability margins, degree of damping modes, and set adjustment mechanism for mode parameters to improve mode stability. We investigated the impact of generator excitation system replacement on stability of Ukraine’s power system. The suggested modal analysis is implemented in the DAKAR software suite [1].

In the paper the analysis of a three-phase hybrid active power filter stability has been presented. Configuration with a single tuned passive filter was used as an example. However, the analysis can be applied to similar configurations of hybrid filters with closed loop control. The article presents a model of the analyzed system in the frequency domain. The division of the model into two independent systems, for positive and negative components, allowed to apply the Nyquist criterion for the stability analysis in this case. As a part of the analysis, the effect of delays, control signal filter parameters, and passive filter parameters have been examined. Based on the presented stability analysis, system parameters for the experimental model of a hybrid power filter have been selected. Finally, experimental results confirming the validity of the analysis have been shown.

This paper provides new analytic tools leading to the first rigorous stability and robustness analysis of sliding-mode feedback controllers. Unrestrictive conditions are given, under which these controllers are stabilizing in the presence of large disturbances, conditions invoke the existence of two Lyapunov-type functions, the first associated with passage to the sliding set in finite time, and the second with convergence to the desired state. In this approach, account is taken, from the outset, of implementational constraints. We provide a framework for establishing stability and robustness of the closed-loop system, for a variety of implementation schemes. We illustrate our results by means of two examples of the type frequently encountered in the sliding-mode literature.

Opis:
Stability of structures such as embankments, dams and natural riverside slopes are hampered due to the seismic loading. To evaluate the seismic effect on the stability of slopes is a major concern in the field of geotechnical engineering. Two-dimensional limit equilibrium method (LEM) is a common approach for analyzing slope stability. Usually LEM is used to find out potential failure mechanisms and factors of safety for the slopes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of seismic loading on the stability of Mahananda River Embankment of Bangladesh by using LEM. The Bishop, Spencer, Fellenius, Janbu and Morgenster-price simplified methods were used for LEM. To conduct the study three locations of Mahananda River Embankment were selected. Soil properties were obtained from laboratory testing. The numerical analysis was carried out using geotechnical software GEO5 which is generally used for analyzing LEM based slope stability problems. From the analysis, it was noted that the factors of safety decreased with the increase of horizontal seismic coefficient for the slopes. The horizontal seismic coefficient alone affects the stability of slope severely than the combined effect of horizontal and vertical seismic coefficient. The results concluded that the present condition of the Mahananda river embankment is stabilized under seismic loading.

In practice, one is not only interested in the qualitative characterizations provided by the Lyapunov stability, but also in quantitative information concerning the system behavior, including estimates of trajectory bounds, possibly over finite time intervals. This type of information has been ascertained in the past in a systematic manner using the concept of practical stability. In the present paper, we give a new definition of generalized practical stability (abbreviated as GP-stability) and establish some sufficient conditions concerning GP-stability for a wide class of discontinuous dynamical systems. As in the classical Lyapunov theory, our results constitute a Direct Method, making use of auxiliary scalar-valued Lyapunov-like functions. These functions, however, have properties that differ significantly from the usual Lyapunov functions. We demonstrate the applicability of our results by means of several specific examples.

Opis:
Prediction of process stability in milling is usually based on experimental frequency response functions of machine tool and cutting force model. Alternatively, operational modal analysis may be applied for the prediction of a stability diagram. It does not require modal impact test but uses vibration signal acquired during actual cutting to identify modal parameters. Such an approach considers boundary conditions that may be different during cutting. On the other hand synthesis of frequency response function is not feasible due to the lack of scaled modal residues. Thus, in this paper modal mass obtained by means of impact test is used to calculate frequency response functions. Estimation of modal damping and natural frequency is carried out using only acceleration signals measured during flexible workpiece machining.

The influence of the back-flow magnitude on the frequency, growth rate and eigenfunctions of the first helical mode is discussed. The calculations are completed with an analysis of the influence of the swirl intensity in the internal and external jets on the characteristics of the first absolutely unstable helical mode.

Stability of mining openings requires consideration of a number of factors, such as: geological structure, the geometry of the underground mining workings, mechanical properties of the rock mass, changes in stress caused by the influence of neighbouring workings. Long-term prediction and estimation of workings state can be analysed with the use of numerical methods. Application of 3D numerical modelling in stability estimation of workings with complex geometry was described with the example of Crystal Caves in Wieliczka Salt Mine. Preservation of the Crystal Caves reserve is particularly important in view of their unique character and the protection of adjacent galleries which are a part of tourist attraction included in UNESCO list. A detailed 3D model of Crystal Caves and neighbouring workings was built. Application of FLAC3D modelling techniques enabled indication of the areas which are in danger of stability loss. Moreover, the area in which protective actions should be taken as well as recommendations concerning the convergence monitoring were proposed.

Opis:
In the development stage of a rail vehicle, analyses to evaluate its dynamic stability are required. In this work, a newly designed Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotive is modelled as a multibody system consisting of several rigid bodies interconnected by elastic elements. Multibody dynamic analysis of the system is performed to obtain the dynamic response and stability evaluation. Stability on tangent and curve tracks as well as the Locomotive dynamic response is investigated. The stability on tangent track is limited by the locomotive critical speed, Vcr, evaluated for various wheel conicity and primary suspension stiffness. Operation beyond this critical speed will result in hunting which could lead to wheel-climb. Stability evaluation on the curve track is conducted through simulation of the model negotiating a curve with rail irregularity for various radii. The maximum and minimum velocities for negotiating the curve are evaluated. To evaluate the derailment safety on the curve track, the wheel-rail contact force ratio in lateral and vertical directions (L/V), and the loading-unloading ratio of the primary suspension in the vertical direction are computed, and are compared to limiting criteria. The results are found to meet the safety criteria. The guiding lateral force on the wheel entering a curve track for various primary suspension stiffnesses is also evaluated because its effect on wear rate of the wheel and rail. While lower stiffness value of the primary suspension results in favourable L/V and lower guiding force, it yields lower critical speed on tangent track. Hence, a parametric study of the primary suspension stiffness is conducted to obtain optimum value which yield acceptable critical speed and guiding force, yet still meet the safety criteria.

This paper presents the results of a stability analysis of a slope located in the immediate vicinity of a railway line. The plans for the extension of this railway track include the construction of another line, which would run parallel to the existing one, within a few metres distance. It is expected that intensive goods train traffic will generate both static and dynamic forces in the underlying subsoil. Consequently, seismic vibrations will be generated in the subsoil, propagating mainly not only in the horizontal direction but also in the vertical direction. The method of seismic coefficient of the earthquake intensity determined by a pseudo-static method and horizontal component of acceleration is appropriate and recommended because it is simple, and the safety factor of the slope is calculated in the same way as in conventional stability calculations.

This paper deals with the reinforced slope stability analysis. It was assumed that soil profile of a slope consists of two layers. The strong soil (soft rock) is covered by weak soil (or weathered rock). Such slope geology determines the way of soil reinforcement. Usually nails or anchors are applied for to provide the overall stability of the slope. However the face reinforcement of soft soil must also be used. Generally, slope stability analysis for such case, is limited to nails or anchors interacting with the soil. The face reinforcement is usually not taken under consideration. The way of reinforcing the slope with pre-tensioned nails connected to wire mesh facing is described and applied. The nails are modeled by rockbolt elements, which can rupture. The wire mesh is modeled as beam element with resistance only in tension and connected to the soil by "unglued" interface. Factor of safety (FS) of a slope is calculated with shear strength reduction technique. Nails pre-tension were obtained by user-written FISH function. A series of FS calculations were performed to show, the wire mesh facing is not only local stability protection, but can significantly increase the overall slope stability.

Opis:
The paper is related to parameter dependent optimal control problems for control-affine systems. The case of scalar reference control with bang-singular-bang structure is considered. The analysis starts from a variational inequality (VI) formulation of Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle. In a first step, under appropriate higher-order sufficient optimality conditions, the existence of solutions for the linearized problem (LVI) is proven. In a second step, for a certain class of right-hand side perturbation, it is show that the controls from LVI have bang-singular-bang structure and, in L1 topology, depend Lipschitz continuously on the data. Applying finally a common fixed-point approach to VI, the results are brought together to obtain existence and structural stability results for extremals of the original control problem under parameter perturbation.

By applying the Galerkin method to the basic equations, the expressions for the critical lateral pressure of the non-homogeneous shell with or without an elastic foundation are obtained. Finally, the effects of the non-homogeneity, elastic foundation and shell characteristics on the critical lateral pressure have been studied.

Amyloid β (Aβ) is the subject of numerous studies due to its link to the devastating Alzheimer’s disease and it exists in a parallel structure in fibril aggregate. The Iowa mutant (D 23 N) Aβ posses a unique antiparallel fibril aggregate structure and can also form parallel structure. This structural difference, coupled with the fact that occurrence of the Iowa mutant is correlated with early onset Alzheimer’s, suggests to use these peptides as candidates for computational studies of the structural determinants of the toxicity of Alzheimer’s disease. In order to compare the two observed Aβ structural motifs, we designed a computational study to probe the factors that affect the stability of parallel and antiparallel aggregates. Since the structural changes may occur on a timescale beyond that sampled in traditional molecular dynamics (MD), we employed a techniques of scaling the mass to reduce the solution ’s viscosity and compared the results to regular molecular dynamics. The knowledge gained from this study could provide insight into the mechanism of selection for antiparallel and parallel two fold structures.

Opis:
The paper considers the stability problem of linear time-invariant continuous-time systems of fractional commensurate order. It is shown that the system is stable if and only if plot of rational function of fractional order, called as the generalised modified Mikhailov plot, and does not encircle the origin of the complex plane. The considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.

Opis:
The stability issue of critical shapes for shape optimization problems with the state function given by a solution to the Neumann problem for the Laplace equation is considered. To this end, the properties of the shape Hessian evaluated at critical shapes are analysed. First, it is proved that the stability cannot be expected for the model problem. Then, the new estimates for the shape Hessian are derived in order to overcome the classical two norms-discrepancy well know in control problems, Malanowski (2001). In the context of shape optimization, the situation is similar compared to control problems, actually, the shape Hessian can be coercive only in the norm strictly weaker with respect to the norm of the second order differentiability of the shape functional. In addition, it is shown that an appropriate regularization makes possible the stability of critical shapes.

Fuzzy controls can describe control rules using fuzzy if-then rules and it can incorporate experts' control rules. It is, however, difficult to guarantee the stability of fuzzy control system. This paper presents a new method for stability analysis of fuzzy control system using petri nets. The proposed method crisply divides all of the input and output variables of the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy model of the controlled object. This crisp division makes the fired rules of the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy model, which have truth values greater then 0, be single each. These simplified fuzzy rules can be considered as discrete description of the controller and the controlled object. By approximating and the fuzzy control system as this discrete system, the system can be expressed by the petri nets. The proposed method describes the fuzzy control system using matrix based on a bipartite directed multigraph of the petri net, thereby enables to analyse the stability of the fuzzy control system. The analytic results using the petri nets have clear correspondence to the fired fuzzy rules. The dynamical behavior of the system are able to be understood easily. Simulation is done to verify the proposed stability analysis method.

Opis:
In this article, an engineering/physical dynamic system including losses is analyzed inrelation to the stability from an engineer’s/physicist’s point of view. Firstly, conditions for a Hamiltonian to be an energy function, time independent or not, is explained herein. To analyze stability of engineering system, Lyapunov-like energy function, called residual energy function is used. The residual function may contain, apart from external energies, negative losses as well. This function includes the sum of potential and kinetic energies, which are special forms and ready-made (weak) Lyapunov functions, and loss of energies (positive and/or negative) of a system described in different forms using tensorial variables. As the Lypunov function, residual energy function is defined as Hamiltonian energy function plus loss of energies and then associated weak and strong stability are proved through the first time-derivative of residual energy function. It is demonstrated how the stability analysis can be performed using the residual energy functions in different formulations and in generalized motion space when available. This novel approach is applied to RLC circuit, AC equivalent circuit of Gunn diode oscillator for autonomous, and a coupled (electromechanical) example for nonautonomous case. In the nonautonomous case, the stability criteria can not be proven for one type of formulation, however, it can be proven in the other type formulation.

The static series synchronous compensator (SSSC) has demonstrated its capability in providing voltage support and improving power system stability. The objective of this paper is to analyze the dynamic interaction stability mechanism of a hybrid renewable energy system connected with doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) and solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) energy with the SSSC. For this purpose, a linearized mathematical model of this modified hybrid single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB) power system is developed to analyze the physical mechanism of the SSSC in suppressing oscillations and the influence on the dynamic stability characteristics of synchronization. Typical impacting factors such as the series compensation level, the SOFC penetration and tie-line power are considered in the SMIB and two-area systems. The impact of dynamic interactions on enhancing damping characteristics and improving transient performance of the studied systems is demonstrated using eigenvalue analysis and dynamic time-domain simulations, which validates the validity of the proposed physical mechanism simultaneously.

This study investigates the inelastic stability of a thin flat rectangular isotropic plate subjected to uniform uniaxial compressive loads using Taylor-Maclaurin series formulated deflection function. The plate has clamped and simply supported edges in both characteristic directions (CCSS boundary conditions). The governing equation is derived using a deformation plasticity theory and a work principle. Values of the plate buckling coefficient are calculated for aspect ratios from 0.1 to 2.0 at intervals of 0.1. The results compared favourably with the elastic stability values and the percentage differences ranged from -0.353% to -7.427%. Therefore, the theoretical approach proposed in this study is recommended for the inelastic stability analysis of thin flat rectangular isotropic plates under uniform in-plane compression.

This paper provides detailed information about the electronics calibration process of a high-speed power network emulator dedicated to the transient stability analysis of power systems. This emulator uses mixed-signal hardware to model the dynamic behavior of a power network. Special design allows the self-calibration of the analog electronics through successive measurements and correction steps. The calibration operation guarantees high resolution of the transient stability analysis results, so that they can be reliably used for operational planning and control on real power networks.

The deviation from the ideal waveformcauses disturbances and failure of end-user load equipment. Power traveling a long distance from the generation plant to the end-user leads to deterioration of its quality, and the intensive utilization of power leads to serious issues in the grid resulting in power quality problems. To make the system effective and able to meet modern requirements, flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices should be installed into the grid. The interline power flow controller (IPFC) is the latest FACTS device, which compensates for both active and reactive power among multi-line systems. The converters used in the IPFC are crucial as they can be adjusted to regulate the power flow among the lines. This paper proposes a cascaded IPFC with hysteresis and proportional resonant voltage controllers. Some main drawbacks of controllers like steady-state errors and reference tracking of converters can be easily achieved by the PR controller, which makes the system efficient and can be used for a wide range of grid applications. Hysteresis and PR controllers are explained in detail in the following sections. A comparative analysis is carried out among control algorithms to choose the suitable controller which maintains stability in the system.

Opis:
In this paper, a stability analysis of interconnected discrete-time fractional-order (FO) linear time-invariant (LTI) state-space systems is presented. A new system is formed by interconnecting given FO systems using cascade, feedback, parallel interconnections. The stability requirement for such a system is that all zeros of a non-polynomial characteristic equation must be within the unit circle on the complex z-plane. The obtained theoretical results lead to a numerical test for stability evaluation of interconnected FO systems. It is based on modern root-finding techniques on the complex plane employing triangulation of the unit circle and Cauchy’s argument principle. The developed numerical test is simple, intuitive and can be applied to a variety of systems. Furthermore, because it evaluates the function related to the characteristic equation on the complex plane, it does not require computation of state-matrix eigenvalues. The obtained numerical results confirm the efficiency of the developed test for the stability analysis of interconnected discrete-time FO LTI state-space systems.

Opis:
This paper focuses on the problem of constraint control for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems. Firstly, a new discrete T–S fuzzy hyperbolic model is proposed to represent a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems. By means of the parallel distributed compensation (PDC) method, a novel asymptotic stabilizing control law with the “soft” constraint property is designed. The main advantage is that the proposed control method may achieve a small control amplitude. Secondly, for an uncertain discrete T–S fuzzy hyperbolic system with external disturbances, by the proposed control method, the robust stability and H performance are developed by using a Lyapunov function, and some sufficient conditions are established through seeking feasible solutions of some linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) to obtain several positive diagonally dominant (PDD) matrices. Finally, the validity and feasibility of the proposed schemes are demonstrated by a numerical example and a Van de Vusse one, and some comparisons of the discrete T–S fuzzy hyperbolic model with the discrete T–S fuzzy linear one are also given to illustrate the advantage of our approach.

The modern method of analysis of the distributed parameter systems relies on the transformation of the dynamical model to an abstract differential equation on an appropriately chosen Banach or, if possible, Hilbert space. A linear dynamical model in the form of a first order abstract differential equation is considered to be well-posed if its right-hand side generates a strongly continuous semigroup. Similarly, a dynamical model in the form of a second order abstract differential equation is well-posed if its right-hand side generates a strongly continuous cosine family of operators. Unfortunately, the presence of a feedback leads to serious complications or even excludes a direct verification of assumptions of the Hille-Phillips-Yosida and/or the Sova-Fattorini Theorems. The class of operators which are similar to a normal discrete operator on a Hilbert space describes a wide variety of linear operators. In the papers [12, 13] two groups of similarity criteria for a given hybrid closed-loop system operator are given. The criteria of the first group are based on some perturbation results, and of the second, on the application of Shkalikov's theory of the Sturm-Liouville eigenproblems with a spectral parameter in the boundary conditions. In the present paper we continue those investigations showing certain advanced applications of the Shkalikov's theory. The results are illustrated by feedback control systems examples governed by wave and beam equations with increasing degree of complexity of the boundary conditions.

In this paper, we analyse the local stability of a gene-regulatory network and immunotherapy for cancer modelled as nonlinear time-delay systems. A numerically generated kernel, using the sum-of-squares decomposition of multivariate polynomials, is used in the construction of an appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional for stability analysis of the networks around an equilibrium point. This analysis translates to verifying equivalent LMI conditions. A delay-independent asymptotic stability of a second-order model of a gene regulatory network, taking into consideration multiple commensurate delays, is established. In the case of cancer immunotherapy, a predator–prey type model is adopted to describe the dynamics with cancer cells and immune cells contributing to the predator–prey population, respectively. A delay-dependent asymptotic stability of the cancer-free equilibrium point is proved. Apart from the system and control point of view, in the case of gene-regulatory networks such stability analysis of dynamics aids mimicking gene networks synthetically using integrated circuits like neurochips learnt from biological neural networks, and in the case of cancer immunotherapy it helps determine the long-term outcome of therapy and thus aids oncologists in deciding upon the right approach.

Rubber tubes under pressure can undergo large deformations and exhibit a particular nonlinear elastic behavior. In order to reveal mechanical properties of rubber tubes subjected to internal pressure, large deformation analysis and stability analysis have been proposed in this paper by utilizing a modified Gent’s strain energy function. Based on the nonlinear elastic theory, by establishing the theoretical model of a rubber tube under internal pressure, the relationship between the internal pressure and circumferential principal stretch has been deduced. Meanwhile stability analysis of the rubber tube has also been proposed and the relationship between the internal pressure and the internal volume ratio has been achieved. The effects on the deformation by different parameters and the failure reasons of the rubber tube have been discussed, which provided a reasonable reference for the design of rubber tubes.

The model was governed by a system of ordinary differential equations; the population into susceptible individuals (S), Exposed individuals (E), infected individuals (I) and Recovered individuals (Q). Theory of positivity and boundedness was used to investigate the well-posedness of the model. Equilibrium solutions were investigated analytically. The basic reproduction number (R0) were calculated using the next generation operator method. Bifurcation analysis and global stability of the model were carried out using centre manifold theory and Lyapunov functions respectively. The effects of parameters such as efficacy of Condom (κ), Effective Contact Rate (β), Compliance of Condom (θ), Progression Rate (ρ) and Treatment Rate (α) on R0 were explored through sensitivity analysis. The possibility of mitigating the spread of gonorrhea in the population has been studied. It can be concluded that parameters representing efficacy of Condom, Effective Contact Rate, Compliance of Condom, Progression Rate and Treatment Rate are significant in reducing the burden of gonorrhea disease in the population.

The Lp stability of linear feedback systems with a single time-varying sector-bounded element is considered. A sufficient condition for Lp stability, with 1LpL Y, is obtained by utilizing the well-known small gain theorem. Based on the stability measure provided by this theorem, quantitative results that describe output-to-input relations are obtained. It is proved that if the linear time-invariant part of the system belongs to the class of proper positive real transfer functions with a single pole at the origin, the upper bound on the output-to-input ratio is constant. Thus, an explicit closed-form calculation of this bound for some simple particular case provides a powerful generalization for the more complex cases. The importance of the results is illustrated by an example taken from missile guidance theory.

To analyze the variation rule of the critical instability time-delay of the semi-active ISD suspension, a general solution was proposed and applied into two three-element-structure ISD suspensions. The dynamical response and the performance of the semi-active ISD suspension in various time-delays indicated that different structures had different suspension performance. The time-delay deteriorated the performance of all of the suspensions which were analyzed. The stability of the semi-active ISD suspension would seriously weaken with the critical time-delay. This paper provided a general solution for parameters selection in semi-active ISD suspension design to avoid the negative effect of the time-delay.

This paper deals with the stability problem of three stator current error-based estimators of induction motor speed, especially in the regenerating operation mode. The stability of the adaptive full-order observer (AFO) and two model reference adaptive systems (MRASs) based on a stator current error (MRASCC and MRASCV) is briefly analysed, and the stability borders are determined and compared. It is shown that MRASCV speed estimator is stable in the whole operation range including the regenerating mode without any modifications. The stability enhancement method for AFO and MRASCC estimators is described, and the solution for their stability improvement is proposed. Torque-speed characteristics of the analysed MRAStype estimators in a wide range of drive speed and load torque changes are given, as well as the behaviour of estimators during transients is compared. The theoretical analysis and simulation test results are validated by experimental tests.

This paper proposes two nonlinear exact and simple state space models of a Zsource converter (ZSC) connected to an ac grid. A generic model of a ZSC accompanied with proper controllers are proposed and a dynamic model of the whole system is derived; as a result, based on a simple one, an equivalent block diagram of the current-controlled ZSC system is proposed. The ac small signal stability method is applied and the impact of controller parameters on network’s stability is discussed. Besides, overall system dynamic performance has been assessed in the event of perturbations. Time-domain simulations have been implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC to validate the accuracy of the models and effectiveness of the proposed controllers. The results of the exact model are compared with the response of the equations which are applied in MATLAB.

Opis:
Purpose: This paper is to study the stability of the current combination of hybrid nano-cutting fluids due to the recent progress in the analysis of nano-cutting fluids, such as the assessment methods for the stability of nano-cutting fluids, have revealed that instability is a common problem associated with nano cutting fluids. Design/methodology/approach: Five samples of 0.001 vol% that are suitable to be tested at UV-Vis machine, Al2O3–TiO2 hybrid nano-cutting fluid was prepared using a one-step process with the help of a magnetic stirrer to stir for 30 minutes with different sonication time to determine the best or optimum sonication time for this hybrid nano-cutting fluid. Stability of nano-cutting fluids was analyses using UV–Vis spectrophotometer (0.001%, 0.0001%, 0.00001%), visual sedimentation (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%), TEM photograph capturing techniques (2%) and zeta potential analysis (0.001%, 0.00001%), that used different volume concentration that is suitable for each type of stability analysis. Findings: The stability analysis reveals that the best sonication time is 90 minutes, and the UV-vis spectrophotometer shows the stability of all samples is above 80% during a month compared to the initial value. Further, visual sedimentation shows good stability with minimum sedimentation and colour separation only. The zeta potential value also shows great stability with a value of 37.6 mV. It is found that the hybrid nano-cutting fluid is stable for more than a month when the nano is suspended in the base fluid of conventional coolant. Research limitations/implications: The result in this paper is based on the experimental study of Al2O3-TiO2/CNC coolant base hybrid nano-cutting fluid for a month. However, to further validate the results presented in this paper, it is recommended to prolong the stability assessment time for six months for longer shelf life. Practical implications: The finding of this experimental study can be useful for high-precision product machining using similar CNC coolants, especially for aircraft and airspace applications for machining parts. Originality/value: No thorough stability assessment using all four types of stability analysis is done on Al2O3-TiO2/CNC Coolant base hybrid nano cutting fluid.

Slope Stability Analysis is one of the main aspects of Open-pit mine planning because the calculations regarding the stability of slopes are necessary to assess the stability of the open pit slopes together with the financial feasibility of the mining operations. This study was conducted to analyse the effect of groundwater on the shear strength properties of soft rock formations and determine the optimum overall slope angle for an open pit coal mine at Thar Coalfield, Pakistan. Computer modelling and analysis of the slope models were performed using Slide (v. 5.0) and Phase2 (v. 6.0) software. Integrated use of Limit Equilibrium based Probabilistic (LE-P) analysis and Finite Element Method (FEM) based shear strength reduction analysis was performed to determine the safe overall slope angle against circular failure. Several pit slope models were developed at different overall slope angles and pore-water pressure ratio (Ru) coefficients. Each model was initially analysed under dry conditions and then by incorporating the effect of pore-water pressure coefficients of Ru = 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 (partially saturated); finally, the strata were considered to be fully saturated. It was concluded that at an overall slope angle of 29 degrees, the overall slope will remain stable under dry and saturated conditions for a critical safety factor of 1.3.

Opis:
The problem of designing a stabilizing feedback controller for an underactuated system is a challenging one since a nonlinear system is not stabilizable by a smooth static state feedback law. A necessary condition for the asymptotical stabilization of an underactuated vehicle to a single equilibrium is that its gravitational field has nonzero elements corresponding to unactuated dynamics. However, global asymptotical stability (GAS) cannot be guaranteed. In this paper, a robust proportional-integralderivative (PID) controller on actuated dynamics is proposed and unactuated dynamics are shown to be global exponentially bounded by the Sordalen lemma. This gives a necessary and sufficient condition to guarantee the global asymptotic stability (GAS) of the URV system. The proposed method is first adopted on a remotely-operated vehicle RRC ROV II designed by the Robotic Research Centre in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Through the simulation using the ROV Design and Analysis toolbox (RDA) written at the NTU in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment, the RRC ROV II is robust against parameter perturbations.

Numerical modeling is an important tool to estimate slope stability. This publication shows application of a GEO 5 – slope stability software to evaluate stability of the “Łaski” Landslide in Międzybrodzie Bialskie. The slide surfaces, which were indentified in drill cores, were used to compute factors of safety (FS). The data from inclinometric measurements were used to verify the numerical model of the landslide. Calculations were carried out for three scenarios: first with normal water level, second scenario with lowered water level of 5 m and 10 m and the third scenario without water with the worst courses of sliding surfaces. As the result for each scenario the factors of safety were estimated. It was found that despite of water lowering and stabilization of existed surfaces, there is a considerable risk of a new sliding surfaces occurrence.

We establish a unified approach to stability analysis for switched linear descriptor systems under arbitrary switching in both continuous-time and discrete-time domains. The approach is based on common quadratic Lyapunov functions incorporated with linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). We show that if there is a common quadratic Lyapunov function for the stability of all subsystems, then the switched system is stable under arbitrary switching. The analysis results are natural extensions of the existing results for switched linear state space systems.

This paper deals with the problem of stabilization by an estimated state feedback for a family of nonlinear time-delay Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy parameterized systems. The delay is supposed to be constant where the parameter-dependent controls laws are used to compensate the nonlinearities which are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals, global exponential stability of the closed-loop systems is achieved. The controller and observer gains are able to be separately designed even in the presence of modeling uncertainty and state delay. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the applicability of the main result.

Stability detection in machining processes is an essential component for the design of efficient machining processes. Automatic methods are able to determine when instability is happening and prevent possible machine failures. In this work a variety of methods are proposed for detecting stability anomalies based on the measured forces in the radial turning process of superalloys. Two different methods are proposed to determine instabilities. Each one is tested on real data obtained in the machining of Waspalloy, Haynes 282 and Inconel 718. Experimental data, in both Conventional and High Pressure Coolant (HPC) environments, are set in four different states depending on materials grain size and Hardness (LGA, LGS, SGA and SGS). Results reveal that PCA method is useful for visualization of the process and detection of anomalies in online processes.
Opis:
Evaluations of an earth-fill dam throughout its service life must ensure the stability of it against seepage and slope failure. This study presents the seepage and slope stability of the Koga earth-fill dam. The analyses were carried out using a finite element based PLAXIS 2D software, and covers the whole dam body; including 20 m of foundation depth. The behavior of both the body and the foundation of the dam were described using the Mohr-Coulomb criterion. Assessments of safety factor and quantity of seepage through the main body of the dam and foundation were carried out at different critical loading conditions. In this study, seepage analysis was undertaken of flow rate, pore water distribution and location of phreatic line. Additional actual field data measurements and observatory investigation were also carried out. From the simulated results, the average flow rate of seepage for the entire length of the body of the dam at normal pool level was equal to 0.06085 m3/s, whereas the figure for that through the foundation of the dam was 0.01937 m3/s. Moreover, total seepage through the main body of the dam at the current reservoir level was 0.04982 m3/s, while the actually measured quantity of seepage accumulated at the downstream toe of the dam was 0.04644 m3/s. The simulated and measured seepage discharges are 93.2 % similar. Based on the result of this study, the resulting factor of safety values during end of construction, steady state condition and rapid drawdown condition were 1.6221, 1.6136 and 1.2199, respectively. Using recommended design standards: United States army corps of engineers (USACE), British dam society (BDS) and Canadian dam association (CDA), the slope stability analysis of the Koga earth dam at all critical loading conditions are safe.

The paper presents an engineering method of the trench stability analysis basing on the three-dimensional limit equilibrium and comparing results with an elasto-plastic model. A short review of stability analyses is presented focusing on a conclusion that the third dimension (the length of the trench section) can not be neglected. The shape of the wedge for the stability calculations is composed of pyramids and prisms such that minimize the value of a factor of safety. Five cases are investigated depending on positions of the sliding zone and ground water level. The factor of safety FS for the trench of the depth H, is the ratio between sustaining hydrostatic slurry pressure Ps and effective horizontal ground pressure Ph acting with a hydrostatic water pressure Pw. Effective lateral ground pressure (Ph) is found making use of the limit force equilibrium for the sliding wedge. One example deals with a searching of the extreme value of angle 0 (versus depth H) which is the inclination of slip surface that minimizes the value of FS. Such critical values of 0 are found to be slightly greater than pi/4 + phi/2. Furthermore, the values of factors of safety FS for the simplified calculations and the ones yielding from the numerical analysis (elasto-plastic) are compared.

Opis:
The paper shows the application of the Monte Carlo method to the stability analysis of a single-layer shallow (h/d = 0.04) dome modelled with frame elements. Structures of this type are characterized by strong nonlinearity, consequently, they are extremely susceptible to stability loss resulting from the node snap-through. It is necessary to perform a nonlinear stability analysis that allows determination of limit points related to that mode of stability failure. This paper shows that with the reliability analysis methods, it is possible to trace the failure probability level while moving along the load-displacement path towards the limit point.

Interleaved boost converters (IBCs) are cascaded in parallel in most of the applications. This novel approach connects IBC in series cascade. The IBC has an optimal operating duty cycle of 0.5. Normally, photovoltaic source voltage is low because of space constraints. In order to boost the source voltage, a conventional boost converter is replaced with series-cascaded IBC in this paper. The single-stage IBC also boosts the voltage to twice the input voltage. In the proposed converter, output voltage is about four times the input voltage with the same 0.5 duty cycle. A mathematical model is developed and simulated for the proposed work in MATLAB/Simulink platform. The output of the proposed circuit is analysed through fast Fourier transform to know the harmonic content due to the switching. The system is tested for stability with signal-flow graph modelling. The proposed work is realised using hardware and tested to validate the model.

This article presents an efficient search method for representative circular and unconstrained slip surfaces with the use of the tailored genetic algorithm. Searches for unconstrained slip planes with rigid equilibrium methods are yet uncommon in engineering practice, and little publications regarding truly free slip planes exist. The proposed method presents an effective procedure being the result of the right combination of initial population type, selection, crossover and mutation method. The procedure needs little computational effort to find the optimum, unconstrained slip plane. The methodology described in this paper is implemented using Mathematica. The implementation, along with further explanations, is fully presented so the results can be reproduced. Sample slope stability calculations are performed for four cases, along with a detailed result interpretation. Two cases are compared with analyses described in earlier publications. The remaining two are practical cases of slope stability analyses of dikes in Netherlands. These four cases show the benefits of analyzing slope stability with a rigid equilibrium method combined with a genetic algorithm. The paper concludes by describing possibilities and limitations of using the genetic algorithm in the context of the slope stability problem.

The objective of this work is to show the influence of dynamic characteristics of Active Magnetic Bearings (AMBs) on the stability and dynamic response of an asymmetric and unbalanced rotor. Indeed, AMBs have been successfully applied in several industrial machinery facilities. Their main advantages are the contactless working principle, frictionless suspension and operation in very high speeds. Firstly, the AMBs dynamic support parameters have been obtained through electromagnetic theory. Then, a generalized system equations of motion have been derived using the finite element method. The motion of a rotor the shaft cross-section of which is asymmetric is generally governed by ordinary differential equations with periodic coefficients. Floquet’s theory is used to investigate the stability of this system of equations. Finally, numerical simulation results are presented and discussed.

The geological structure of the Bełchatów area is very complicated as a result of tectonic and sedimentation processes. The long-term exploitation of the Bełchatów field influenced the development of horizontal displacements. The variety of factors that have impact on the Bełchatów western slope stability conditions, forced the necessity of complex geotechnical monitoring. The geotechnical monitoring of the western slope was carried out with the use of slope inclinometers. From 2005 to 2013 fourteen slope inclinometers were installed, however, currently seven of them are in operation. The present analysis depicts inclinometers situated in the north part of the western slope, for which the largest deformations were registered. The results revealed that the horizontal displacements and formation of slip surfaces are related to complicated geological structure and intensive tectonic deformations in the area. Therefore, the influence of exploitation marked by changes in slope geometry was also noticeable.

The main purpose of this work is to verify the influence of the weighting procedure in the Least Squares Method on the probabilistic moments resulting from the stability analysis of steel skeletal structures. We discuss this issue also in the context of the geometrical nonlinearity appearing in the Stochastic Finite Element Metod equations for the stability analysis and preservation of the Gaussian probability density function employed to model the Young modulus of a structural steel in this problem. The weighting procedure itself (with both triangular and Dirac-type) shows rather marginal influence on all probabilistic coefficients under consideration. This hybrid stochastic computational technique consisting of the FEM and computer algebra systems (ROBOT and MAPLE packages) may be used for analogous nonlinear analyses in structural reliability assessment.

We analyze stability for switched systems which are composed of both continuous-time and discrete-time subsystems. By considering a Lie algebra generated by all subsystem matrices, we show that if all subsystems are Hurwitz/Schur stable and this Lie algebra is solvable, then there is a common quadratic Lyapunov function for all subsystems and thus the switched system is exponentially stable under arbitrary switching. When not all subsystems are stable and the same Lie algebra is solvable, we show that there is a common quadratic Lyapunov-like function for all subsystems and the switched system is exponentially stable under a dwell time scheme. Two numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the result.

In this paper, transient stability of power systems with structure preserving models is considered. A Hamiltonian function which can be regarded as a Lyapunov function for the system is proposed. Based on this, the influence of flux decay dynamics, especially during a fault, on transient stability is analyzed. With the increase of load power, the variation of stability boundary in the rotor angle/Eq plane is shown. The Energy-based excitation control, aiming at injecting additional damping into the post-fault system may reduce the critical clearing time (CCT). This can be demonstrated by the comparison of different flux decay dynamics in the fault-on condition, and the reason is illustrated by the relationship between rotor angle/Eq and the stability boundary. An improved control strategy is proposed and applied to increase the CCT. Simulation results verify that improvement is obtained both in transient stability and dynamic performance.

The study was aimed at determining yield stability and adaptability patterns of a set of 65 open pollinated maize genotypes evaluated across four different agro ecologies in Uganda using 5 × 13 α-lattice design replicated twice. Individual location analysis ANOVA results showed mean squares of genotype were statistically highly significant in terms of days to 50% anthesis, anthesis silking interval, grain yield and maize streak virus disease severity score for all environments tested except for grain yield in Ngetta. The highest grain yield was recorded for topcross C9/TA (ECAVL1/CML536) of 9.60 t ha-1 in Bulindi, for top cross C3/TA (Longe5/CML536) of 9.56 t ha-1 in Namulonge. However, they were quite unstable as their ranking was not consistent across environments. The genotype Ambsyn5, C4/TB, FS85 and C9/TB were showed the lowest disease score for MSV. The parent OPV SITUKA MI was with the lowest day requirement for shading pollen and hence it can be utilized in breeding for earliness. The additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) analysis results indicated that the tested genotypes were highly influenced by genotype main effects, environment effects and genotype x environment interaction effects; the magnitude of environment and its interaction effect for grain yield was 9.8 times greater than the variation attributed to genotype main effects thus these genotypes were more affected by the environment and their interaction. Based on Finlay and Wilkinson’s sensitivity estimate, genotypes G40, G58, G42, G44, G56, G23, G52 and G53 were identified as the most stable and widely adaptable.

This paper is devoted to studying the globally exponential stability of impulsive high-order Hopfield-type neural networks with time-varying delays. In the process of impulsive effect, nonlinear and delayed factors are simultaneously considered. A new impulsive differential inequality is derived based on the Lyapunov–Razumikhin method and some novel stability criteria are then given. These conditions, ensuring the global exponential stability, are simpler and less conservative than some of the previous results. Finally, two numerical examples are given to illustrate the advantages of the obtained results.

His paper show the method of stability analysis of complex geology slopes. Application of two-dimensional calculations (assuming plane strain conditions) is not always correct for complex geology slopes. Only the three-dimensional numerical calculations allow accurate and sensible stability analysis taking under consideration complex geology and structural surfaces localization. This work deals with three- dimensional stability analysis of complex geology slope. The factor of safety was estimated to fit for real landslide range. Presented method of calculation may be utilized for calibration and validation of three-dimensional numerical models and its application for slopes of similar geology.

The initial global sway imperfection and the initial local bow imperfections of member frame are taken into account. The sensitivity of a structure to the 2nd order effects is assessed indirectly using the elastic critical load. The elastic critical load of a frame is calculated according to the buckling mode. The 2nd order effects are taken into account using the finite element method.

Opis:
An active inerter-based suspension with acceleration feedback control is proposed in this paper, the time delay generated in the controllers and actuators is considered, which constitutes the time-delayed active inerter-based (TDA-IB) suspension. The dynamic equation of the TDA-IB suspension is established and is a neutral type of delay differential equation (NDDE) in which the time delay exists in the highestorder derivative. The stability analysis is conducted by calculating the number of unstable characteristic roots based on the definite integral stability method, the stable and unstable regions are determined. The effect of time delay and feedback gain on the dynamic performance of the TDA-IB suspension under harmonic, random, and shock excitations is studied in detail and compared with the parallel-connected inerterbased (PC-IB) and traditional suspensions. The results show that the TDA-IB suspension is asymptotically stable for smaller feedback gain and time delay, through increasing the feedback gain, the stable regions shrink, and a smaller time delay could cause the system to become unstable. Furthermore, the time delay could regulate the resonance peak around the unsprung mass natural frequency and generate multiple high-frequency resonance peaks. If the time delay is chosen appropriately and falls into the stable range, the TDA-IB suspension could improve the dynamic performance for the suspension stroke and dynamic tire load while having a deterioration for the vehicle body acceleration compared with the PC-IB and traditional suspensions.

Opis:
Dynamic macroeconomic models (both VAR and DSGE) currently play a very significant role in macroeconomic modelling. But these types of models rarely take into account the impact of financial markets on the behaviour of economies, they are rather more focused on the monetary transmission mechanism. The financial crisis of 2007-2008 highlighted the impact of the financial market on the macroeconomy. In this context macroprudential policy and financial stability analysis has gained a stronger meaning. The main aim of the paper is to estimate a model that simultaneously explains the dynamics of macroeconomic and financial variables and to assess whether the identified relationships are stable over time. Therefore, based on the estimated empirical structural vector autoregression model explaining the interactions between the real economy, the financial system and monetary policy in Poland, financial and macroeconomic shocks were identified. It was shown that the impulse reaction functions changed after the financial crisis. On the basis of Markov‑Switching vector autoregression model probabilities of transitions between states of the economy and the regime-dependent impulse reaction functions were estimated.

Several types of instabilities can menace the personnel and equipment in the open cast mines. Their kinematicis dependent commonly on the nature, the structure, the fracturing and the strength of the rock mass. A scientific assessment vis-a-vis their equilibrium is suggested. For this task a considerable amount of field work must already carrying out to supply the necessary data ie: geometric, mechanic and geologic parameters. The main purpose of this research is identifying different modes of slope failures that may develop on the career “ENOF” of Jebel Gustar, by a multi-step analysis. For this task, i) a structural analysis; ii) an estimation of the rock mass and discontinuity mechanical properties, iii) a rating of the rock mass quality, iv) and a numerical simulation of the stability are procedurally used. The results matched well with the field observations. They proved the poor stability of the career, showing a typical example of a bad slope-design. The application of such approaches can help stabilizing the mine and ensure the safety and a sustainable production.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of a numerical analysis of the elastic-plastic behaviour of steel compression members subjected to compression with a permanent pre-deformation in the longitudinal axis by a longitudinal indispensable shock load. A differential load intensity was considered up to the loss of stability. A finite difference method was applied, with an explicit integration schema for the time of the dynamic stability equations. It was assumed that the precursor to the unstable behaviour of a steel compression member was a continuous deformation of the rod axis, which was defined according to current industry-standard design procedures. Cases of flexible and stiff rods, varying in slenderness, were considered. It was demonstrated that a significant load on the performance of the steel compression members and their buckling mechanisms is attributable to longitudinal wave effects. These longitudinal wave effects cause high-frequency changes in the axial forces with a significant stress concentration due to the effect of reflection from a pinned support. This is critical for the dissipation of internal energy by plastic deformation. The applied research method facilitated an estimation of the dynamic critical forces and their relationships with static values.

Opis:
This paper shows the 3D slope stability analysis for municipal waste disposal Zoniówka II (quarters I and II) with numerical methods. The conditions of landslide were simulated for the quarter I. The theoretical situations were also analysed. It was assumed that retaining embankment was built from plastic or semi-solid consistency soil. The quarter 1 was also analysed assuming it's fully filled with wastes. The calculations results show, that main reason of landslide was improper soil material of retaining embankment. Further simulations proved that retaining embankment from plastic or semi-solid soil would approve waste disposal stability. The appropriate way of waste disposal is decreasing of moisture content of retaining embankment soil. Stability analysis for quarter II showed considerable different results between 2D and 3D calculations. These differences are the effect of higher precision of 3D modelling what gives a better opportunity to precisely reproduce the slope geology. This also gives a good chance to study the slope failure indicators. The 3D stability analyses of waste disposal allow investigation the progress of failure surface, its shape and range and also the volume of landslide. The accurate 3D geology model shows the influence of properties change on the calculations results. 3D calculations are however more laborious and require more powerful computers.

Opis:
This paper deals with designing and stability analysis of sheet pile walls (SPW). SPW are commonly used for stabilizing walls of trenches. Classical limit state methods are usually applied to design simple constructions. Application of simple design schemes may lead to several mistakes. According to Eurocode 7-1, numerical methods (NM) are among four main design methods of design. For to demonstrate possibilities of numerical methods application, several examples of SPW stability analysis were performed, utilizing Finite Difference Method code FLAC v. 5.0. Comparing NM with limit state methods, it must be underlined, that application of numerical methods has one serious limitation. NM may be used only to analyze initially designed construction. Straight use of NM as a design tool may be quite difficult, but not impossible. However NM suits perfectly for verification and correction of results obtained from limit state methods. Five different models of anchored SPW were considered. Several conclusions regarding number of anchors, bending moments distribution and global construction stability were formulated.

In this paper, the robust D-stability problem for discrete uncertain multiple time-delay systems is examined on the basis of their such reduced-order models (the slow and fast subsystems), which are obtained by time-scale separation method. Under the condition that the slow and fast subsystems of the nominal system are both -D(a,r)-stable, a D-stability criterion for the slow and fast subsystem of the original uncertain system is first derived. A delay-dependent criterion in terms of spectral radius is then proposed to guarantee the robust D-stability of the original uncertain system subject to structured perturbations. Moreover, the criterion for the robust asymptotic stability of the system subject to structured perturbations can be obtained from the proposed robust D-stability criterion. A numerical example is provided to illustrate our main results.

In the assessment of slope stability, the vertical component of acceleration is commonly neglected. However, signal analyses performed on a large number of acceleration time histories have revealed that the vertical peak ground acceleration can be as high as the horizontal one. In this paper, a method of slope stability analysis regarding the vertical component of acceleration is proposed. It considers a rigid body system affected by the acceleration time histories in both horizontal and vertical directions. In a general case, the strength of the contact between acceleration components is time dependent. Parametric analysis was performed on the basis of cyclic harmonic loading, assuming a safety criterion in the form of permanent displacement. The results, for both harmonic and real acceleration time histories, were compared with the results of the commonly used Newmark’s sliding block approach, which revealed significant differences in permanent displacements calculated by the two methods.

In the northeast of Algeria, Souk Ahras area is known for the severity and spread of landslides, especially in Mechroha and Zaarouria municipalities. Stability analysis of landslides in these areas depends on the calculations of safety factor according to several parameters (physical, mechanical, geological…). The aim of this study is to investigate the parameters affecting the safety factor using the design of experiments (DOE) method, central composite design (CCD) and response surfaces methodology (RSM). These methods use parameter modeling and optimization to discuss a solution of landslide hazard by developing models of safety factor (Fs) considered as response. The other parameters adopted as input independent factors are geotechnical physical and mechanical parameters such as: the dry and wet unit weight (γd, γh), the water content (w), the plasticity and liquidity limits and the plasticity index (WL, WP, IP), the percentage of fine elements Ff (%) < 0.08 mm), the cohesion C and the internal friction angle (Phi). Obtained results show high correlations with a regression coefficient R2 of 0.88 and 0.93 in the two cases study and the predicted factor of safety model fit best to those obtained in the analytical and numerical modeling procedure. The final model is applicable to give reliable results on the safety factor of landslides.

An energy method for the position stability analysis of critical points (equilibrium positions) of dynamical systems with an arbitrary finite number of degrees of freedom is presented. The method proposed consists in the analysis of the potential energy balance of a perturbation of an arbitrary number of generalised co-ordinates of the dynamical system in order to establish the energy stability of individual degrees of freedom and of the whole system. In the case of mechanical systems, the position stability criterion, understood as minimisation of loads of driving systems with conservative forces, is discussed. Some examples of application of the method to the position stability analysis of critical points of one- and two-degree-of-freedom systems are analysed.

Opis:
In this paper, we investigate the combined effect of internal heating and time periodic gravity modulation in a viscoelastic fluid saturated porous medium by reducing the problem into a complex non-autonomous Ginzgburg-Landau equation. Weak nonlinear stability analysis has been performed by using power series expansion in terms of the amplitude of gravity modulation, which is assumed to be small. The Nusselt number is obtained in terms of the amplitude for oscillatory mode of convection. The influence of viscoelastic parameters on heat transfer has been discussed. Gravity modulation is found to have a destabilizing effect at low frequencies and a stabilizing effect at high frequencies. Finally, it is found that overstability advances the onset of convection, more with internal heating. The conditions for which the complex Ginzgburg-Landau equation undergoes Hopf bifurcation and the amplitude equation undergoes supercritical pitchfork bifurcation are studied.

Opis:
In this paper voltage stability is analysed based not only on the voltage deviations from the nominal values but also on the number of limit violating buses and severity of voltage limit violations. The expression of the actual state of the system as a numerical index like severity, aids the system operator in taking better security related decisions at control centres both during a period of contingency and also at a highly stressed operating condition. In contrary to conventional N – 1 contingency analysis, Northern Electric Reliability Council (NERC) recommends N – 2 line contingency analysis. The decision of the system operator to overcome the present contingency state of the system must blend harmoniously with the stability of the system. Hence the work presents a novel N – 2 contingency analysis based on the continuous severity function of the system. The study is performed on 4005 possible combinations of N – 2 contingency states for the practical Indian Utility 62 bus system. Static VAr Compensator is used to improve voltage profile during line contingencies. A multi- objective optimization with the objective of minimizing the voltage deviation and also the number of limit violating bus with optimal location and optimal sizing of SVC is achieved by Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm.

Opis:
Embedded delamination growth stability was analysed with the help of the FEM combined with a specially developed procedure for node relocation to obtain a smooth variation of the SERR components along the delamination contour. The procedure consisted in the replacement of the actual material with the very compliant fictitious one and the displacement of the delamination front nodes by the previously determined distance in a local coordinate system. Due to this loading, the new delamination front was created. Subsequently, the original material was restored. Evolution under inplane compression of three initially circular delaminations of diameters d = 30, 40 and 50 mm embedded in thin laminates of two different stacking sequences, i.e., 0 ◦ 4 //0 ◦ 24 and 0 ◦ 4 //90◦ 20/0 ◦ 4 were considered. It was found that the growth history and the magnitude of the load that triggers unstable delamination growth depended mainly on the combined effects of the initial delamination size, delamination contour, out of plane post-buckling geometry of the disbonded layers, reinforcement arrangement, and magnitude and variation of the SERR components along the delamination contour. To present the combined effect of these features, an original concept of the effective resistance curve, GReff , was introduced.

Opis:
New semiconductor power switches make considerable increase of operation frequency of converters in traction drives possible. For this reason the values of the capacitance and inductance of the input filter components could be significantly decreased. However, the significant decrease of the parameter values of these components can be unacceptable due to necessity to ensure the stable operation of the drive system. The method of obtaining the Lyapunov function and the conditions of stable drive's operation are presented in this paper. On the basis of the simplified equivalent diagram of the traction system, which is frequently encountered in literature, the analysis of system operation was carried out. The non-linear differential equation describing the system was formulated, the points of balance were calculated and the practical meaning of these points was discussed. After taking into account the equilibrium points and appropriate transformation of the formulas the known in literature Lienard equation was obtained. On the basis of dependences related to Lienard equation the Lyapunov function for the system analysed in the paper was found. Results of the simulations and laboratory tests of stability of the system with pulse-mode converter supplying the traction motor with rated power of 45 kW of the electric mine locomotive Ld 31 are also presented here.

Opis:
Wymagało to rozbudowania opracowanej poprzednio procedury numerycznej i zbudowania nowego programu obliczeniowego. W wyniku obliczeń numerycznych można określić siłę w kotwie jako ekstremalna wartość wyprowadzonego funkcjonału. Wskazano, że otrzymane tą metodą siły są większe niż te otrzymane klasyczną metodą Coulomba.
This paper presents a solution of an anchored retaining wall problem using an approach of classical variational calculus, that allows the three equilibrium equations to be taken into account. The problem is formulated as an isoperimetric problem of variational calculus and a closed-form solution of Euler's equations is found. Unfortunately, in general case, extremes of the functionals involved in the problem under consideration can not be found in an analytical way. In this circumstances a crucial point was establishing of bounds for the domain of the investigations of the functional maxima. Next, based on bounds derived, a numerical procedure for finding maxima has been worked out. The problem in the case of cohesionless soil has been solved by an earlier paper of the second author. Now the solution has been extended for the case of cohesive soils. In order to obtain a reasonable solution a new numerical algorithm has been elaborated. Finally a numerical analysis for the case of wall embedded in a cohesive soil has been carried out. An important finding is that the classical Coulomb's wedge method, which ignores the moment equilibrium equation, is an unconservative approach and hence provides an unsafe solution for the anchor force.

Opis:
W pracy omówiono zastosowanie metody wielostrzałowej pod kątem użycia jej do analizy stateczności niepryzmatycznych słupów przegubowoprzegubowych o skokowo zmiennej sztywności, obciążonych siłą skupioną przyłożoną do górnego węzła.
The application of multiple shooting method in stability analysis of non-prismatic multi-segment columns with pinned ends loaded with a concentrated force applied to the upper node has been presented. Numerical analyses were carried out for an exemplary three-segment column by solving the system of differential equations with variable coefficients and parameter. The results were compared with the solution obtained by using SOFiSTiK software based on the finite element method. The analyses show that considering the stiffness changes along the length can have a significant influence on the values of critical loads and thus change the resistance of the column. The advantage of the proposed method is its high efficiency and easy description of stiffness changes.
