    Pandemics affect millions of people and cause many deaths worldwide. Undoubtedly, the most affected vulnerable group in the epidemic has been the elderly. The elderly population is a very heterogeneous population with various combinations of geriatric syndromes, comorbidities, and disabilities. According to the WHO report, 89% of the mortality in the COVID-19 virus is seen in individuals aged 65 and over, called the elderly. For older people, the risk of transmission is higher due to the health conditions associated with aging. The weak immune system in the elderly and the advanced state of chronic diseases can cause COVID-19 disease to be experienced more severely. The social isolation measure of the elderly during the COVID-19 process has caused physiological, physical and psychological problems. At the same time, due to the social isolation measure, the routine treatment plans of the elderly were disrupted and they were deprived of the necessary treatment. The aim of this study is to address the physiological, physical and psychological problems experienced by the elderly during the pandemic process and to determine the effects of the pandemic on the elderly.

    Opis:
    The Cerattepe (Artvin) mine contains volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits in northeastern Turkey. This is a kuroko type deposit located in Late Cretaceous volcanic, intrusive and sedimentary rocks, and has a structure with dense alteration stages. In this study, batch flotation tests were carried out to determine the flotation behavior of a new sample (mix ore), that was the combination of two different ores with different flotation behaviors. The mixed ore contains 2.18% Cu, 1.46% Zn, (Cu/Zn ratio 1.49) 38.35% Fe, and 41.6% S content. An efficient separation of copper minerals from zinc minerals using the conventional selective flotation method could not be achieved due to complex mineralogy and very low liberation degree. Therefore, sequential selective flotation resulted in poor Cu recovery. The effects of flotation parameters such as collector type, collector amount, particle size, and pH conditions, were investigated to obtain a bulk copper-zinc concentrate. The best results were obtained using thionocarbamate (Aero 3894) and dithiophosphine (Aerophine 3418A) collector reagents at d80=40 μm particle size. Under optimal conditions (grain size, d80=40 μm, pH=11, amount of collector reagent 60 g/t (Aero 3894), frother (MIBC)=50 g/t, solid ratio=32%, flotation time=8 min.), a bulk copper-zinc concentrate containing 13% Cu and 9.5% Zn was obtained with a copper yield of 84.4% and a zinc yield of 88.9%. The concentrate mass pull was 13%. After rougher and two-stage scavenger flotation, a concentrate (rougher concentrate + scavenger products) was obtained with a mass pull of 22%. Copper and zinc recoveries of this concentrate were 91.8% and 92.5%, respectively.

    Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an important driver of countries' economic development. Factors such as looser environmental regulations may cause dirty FDI to flow mainly to developing countries. This is explained by the Pollution Haven Hypothesis. eTh paper aims to investigate whether the Pollution Haven Hypothesis is valid in Turkey using the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) approach for the period 1974-2017. eTh results show that FDI inflows and carbon emissions have asymmetric eefcts in both the short and long term for Turkey, supporting the Pollution Haven Hypothesis. Furthermore, there is a link between carbon emissions and trade openness, manufacturing and economic growth. Policymakers should develop the policies necessary to transfer clean technologies to Turkey by providing improvements and technical advances for a more eficient energy use.

    In this study, the effects of the lacquer applied to the printing materials which were printed by electrophotographic printing method on printing quality were investigated. In practice, printing materials with the same weight and different optical properties were used and the study was carried out in three stages. The optical and physical properties of the printing materials used in the fi rst part were determined, in the second part, the printing of these materials by electrophotographic printing method and printability tests were performed. In the third chapter, matte and glossy lacquers were applied to these printed materials and printability tests were repeated. As a result of the study, it was observed that the application of gloss and matte lacquer caused a decrease in the printing density values and also the application of matte lacquer caused a decrease in the gloss values.

    Aim: Financial crises are dangerous and frightening events with potentially severe consequences for investors, financial systems and even whole economies. Hence, we suppose that market participants show increased proneness to emotionally biased decisions during times of market distress. We test our hypothesis by analyzing two well-known behavioral effects: ambiguity aversion and selective perception. Design / Research methods: The authors should clearly explain the way in which the aim or objective is achieved. The main research methods as well as the approach to the research should be provided that enable effective dealing with the paper’s aim.First, we use GARCH volatilities of major stock indices as a measure of market distress and monthly data from the Economic Policy Uncertainty Indicator (EPUI) as a proxy for the level of market uncertainty. By estimating the Granger causality, we test whether uncertainty causally influences market volatility, which could be interpreted as a sign of ambiguity aversion of market participants. Second, we use sub-indices of the EPUI regarding financial regulation, monetary policy, and economic policy as a proxy for market awareness of these topics. By regressing on GARCH volatilities, which serve again as the measure for crises, we analyze if investors’ attention differs depending on market distress due to selective perception Conclusions / findings: Overall, we find mixed results. For ambiguity aversion, we find causality for the total sample as well as for the subsamples of the first oil crisis, the Latin America crisis, the Asian crisis, and the subprime crisis. For selective perception, we find significant results for the total sample as well, as for the Dot.Com bubble and the subprime crisis.   Originality / value of the article: We add value by examining specific severe financial crises with respect to behavioral aspects of market participants. We want to learn whether the awareness of investors regarding important topics like monetary policy, financial regulation, and economic policy is stable over time and if uncertainty drives the market distress or vice versa. This knowledge is important to investors and policy makers. Implications of the research: Investors and decision-makers need to focus e.g. on current discussions regarding financial regulation not only in times of distress but also in normal times. Otherwise, policy makers will be forced to react in times of pressure and cannot proactively devise regulation. Limitations of the research: First, we did not check for spill-over effects. The question if volatility creates subsequent ripple effects in our framework is left for future research.Second, for the Japanese crisis we did not find causality in our ambiguity aversion analysis. The question whether the link between levels of uncertainty and volatility is stronger once a bubble bursts on domestic soil remains unanswered in our paper.

    Objectives: To explore the correlation between the volume of the aAgger nNasi (AN) cell bulge and the A-P length of the frontal recess (FR). Subjects and methods: In total, 120 patients, who underwent septoplasty, were included. All patients underwent preoperative paranasal sinus computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses (PNS CT) imaging. In total, CT data on of all 120 PNSs patients were analyzed in terms of thewith respect to the extent of pneumatization of the AN cell bulge and the A-P dimensions of the FR. Each side was analyzed separately. Results: We included 120 patients,: 78 (65.0%) females and 42 (35.0 %) males. Their average age was 33.7 ± 11.6 years (range: 18–65 years). The mean volume of the AN cell bulge was 0.26 ± 0.4 mm3 on both the right and left sides. The A-P length of the FR was 7.7 ± 2.2 mm. No significant between-side difference in the mean volume of the AN cell bulge was apparent observed (p=0.906). This volume did not differ significantly by age or sex (p=0.844 and p=0.971, respectively). We found no correlation between the volume of the AN cell bulge and the A-P length of the FR (r = 0.098, p=0.192). Conclusion: In the present study, no correlation between AN cell volume and the A-P length of the FR was found. When studying the anatomical complexity of the FR, it is essential to consider the AN cell volume. We suggest that preoperative CT imaging is critical when endoscopic sinus surgery is planned. However, further studies with larger numbers of patients are needed to explore the relationship between AN cell pneumatization and the anatomy of the FR.

    Cele: Zbadanie korelacji między objętością komórki grobli nosa (agger nasi; AN) a wymiarem przednio-tylnym (anterior-posterior; AP) zachyłka czołowego (frontal recess; FR). Materiał i metody: Do badania włączono 120 pacjentów, którzy zostali poddani zabiegowi septoplastyki. U wszystkich chorych przed operacją wykonano badanie obrazowe – tomografię komputerową zatok przynosowych (TK ZP). W odniesieniu do stopnia pneumatyzacji wyniosłości komórki AN i wymiarów A-P FR przeanalizowano obrazy zatok przynosowych pochodzące łącznie ze wszystkich 120 wykonanych TK. Każda ze stron została poddana odrębnej analizie. Wyniki: Do badania włączono 120 chorych: 78 kobiet (65,0%) i 42 mężczyzn (35,0%). Średni wiek pacjentów wynosił 33,7±11,6 lat (zakres: 18–65 lat). Średnia wielkość wyniosłości komórki AN wynosiła 0,26±0,4 mm3 po obu stronach, prawej i lewej. Wymiar A-P FR wynosił 7,7±2,2 mm. Nie stwierdzono istotnej różnicy między średnią objętością wyniosłości komórki AN (p=0,906). Wielkość ta nie różniła się znacząco ani w zależności od wieku, ani płci (p=0,844 i p=0,971). Nie stwierdzono korelacji pomiędzy objętością wyniosłości komórki AN a wymiarem A-P FR (r=0,098, p=0,192). Wniosek: W niniejszym badaniu nie stwierdzono korelacji pomiędzy wielkością wyniosłości komórki AN a wymiarem A-P FR. Przy badaniu złożoności anatomicznej FR należy wziąć pod uwagę objętość komórki AN. Autorzy pracy sugerują, że przedoperacyjne obrazowanie za pomocą TK ma kluczowe znaczenie w przypadku planowania endoskopowej operacji zatok przynosowych. W celu zbadania zależności między pneumatyzacją komórki AN a anatomią FR potrzebne są jednak dalsze badania z udziałem większej liczby pacjentów.

    W artykule, na podstawie wybranych obiektów architektonicznych, ukazano związki i przenikanie się myśli artystycznej i architektonicznej w XVI wieku między stolicą Wschodu – Stambułem a stolicą potęgi morskiej Zachodu – Wenecją. Przykładem wymiany myśli w dziedzinie teorii architektury, architektury i inżynierii jest twórczość tureckiego architekta Hoca Mimara Sinana (ok. 1489-1588) oraz weneckiego architekta Andrei Palladia (1508-1580). Fascynacja architekturą i sztuką Zachodu jest widoczna w twórczości Sinana w poszukiwaniu formy, dekoracji oraz sposobie kompozycji opartej na harmonii matematycznego piękna będącego funkcją witruwiańskiej triady – firmitas, utilitas, venustas. Sinan, opierając się na klasycznych zasadach sztuki budowania, potrafił nadać swoim budowlom nowy, indywidualny wyraz. Synergia klasycznego umiłowania piękna i orientalnego kunsztu dekoracji promieniowała na Zachód swoją maestrią, nie dziwi więc, iż wybitny teoretyk i praktyk, jakim był Andrea Palladio, uległ fascynacji rozwiązań architekta ze Wschodu. W artykule przybliżono te wątki, ukazując dwie niezwykłe osobowości artystyczne na podstawie wybranych realizacji oraz odnosząc się do dzieła łączącego architektów – traktatu Witruwiusza pt. O architekturze ksiąg dziesięć.
    In her article, the author, based on the selected architectonic objects, showed the relationships and interpenetration of the artistic and architectonic thought in the 16th century between the capital of the East, Istanbul, and the capital of the maritime power of the West, Venice. An example of the thought in the field of the theory of architecture, architecture and engineering is the works of the Turkish architect Hoca Mimar Sinan (around 1489–1588) and the Venetian architect Andrea Palladio (1508–1580). Fascination of the architecture and art of West is evident in the works of Sinan in seeking for the form, decoration, and the way of composition based on the harmony of mathematic beauty being a function of the Vitruvian triad: firmitas, utilitas, venustas. Sinan, relying on the classic rules of the art of building, managed to provide his constructions a new, individual expression. The synergy of the classic love of beauty and the oriental art of decoration emanated to West with its mastery; therefore, it is not surprising that an outstanding theoretician and practitioner, Andrea Palladio, yielded to fascination of the resolutions of the architect from East. In her article, the author brought closer those topics, presenting the two unusual artistic personalities based on the selected accomplishments and referring to the art linking the architects – the treatise of Vitruvius, entitled De Architectura libri decem.

    The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the adoption of the social networks by teaching candidates and their loneliness. With this purpose in mind, 133 students from education faculties were involved in this study. In the study, the UCLA Loneliness Scale and the Social Networks Adoption Scale were applied to the students. After using the SPSS 18.0 program, the results from the scales were deduced using the Pearson Correlation, Independent t-Test, and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). A significant relationship between students’ scores of loneliness and the usage of online social networks was revealed. The conclusion is that the loneliness scores of the students increase according to the frequency students use social networks. In addition, it can be said that the loneliness situation of students and their adoption of social networks does not change according to the universities in which they study.

    Violent behaviors among students are becoming an important matter for studies in educational research. Especially, this kind of behaviors has been observed in elementary schools. In this study we investigated violent behaviors among the elementary school students in rural and urban areas. The purpose of this study was to investigate the violent behaviors regarding some variables such as gender, classroom and location of the school. We focused on five dimensions of violence (physical, verbal, sexual, emotional and institutional). Survey method was used in the study. 2811 students, being educated in 7 rural and 7 urban areas, participated in this research in Turkey. As a result of this study, we found that there was a significant difference between the students educated in rural and urban areas in terms of the institutional violence dimension.
