Trzęsienie ziemi w Lizbonie w roku 1755 uchodzi za wydarzenie, które zmieniło losy świata. Zmieniło także utrwaloną na chrześcijańskim Zachodzie wiarę w Bożą opatrzność i przekonanie o prawdziwości religijnej wizji świata. Niektórych filozofów utwierdziło ono w sceptycyzmie wobec tak zwanego optymizmu Leibniza. Od połowy osiemnastego wieku zmienia się w literaturze niemieckiej sposób mówienia o Bogu i boskości, także w kontekście „kryzysu optymizmu”, który miał wówczas nastąpić.
The 1755 Lisbon earthquake is considered an event that changed the course of world history. It also changed the belief in the Divine Providence popular in the Christian West and confirmed some philosophers in their skeptical opinion on the so-called Leibnizian optimism. In mid-18th century German writers changed their way of speaking about God and Divinity, which was in part conditioned by the ‘optimism crisis’ characteristic of the period in question. The article presents the history of Alma Mater Jenensis from its inception in 1548 untill the early 20th century. The University of Jena, also known as Salana (after the river Saale, on which Jena lies), is one of the oldest German universities. Since the 16th century, it has been a centre of Lutheran thought. In the end 17th and 18th centuries prominent professors such as mathematician Erhard Weigel, historian Johann Andreas Bose, physician Werner Rolfinck, historian Friedrich Schiller, philosophers Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel conducted research or taught here. Since the 19th century, the University has cooperated with the Zeiss company manufacturing optical equipment. The author also discussed the collections of the Collegium Jenense and generally of the University.

Wallensteins Lager zeichnet die Konturen des Protagonisten durch dessen Abwesenheit. Nicht in der Gestalt des wirklichen Wallenstein, sondern als Schattenbild im Lager erscheint das tragische Schicksal, das er erleiden muss: den Verrat, den Verlust der Kontrolle über seine Armee und sein gewaltsamer Tod. Das Schattenbild des Protagonisten verwandelt die Gerüchte im Lageralltag in Wahrheit und die Wahrheit in Geschichte. Der Aufsatz untersucht die Bedeutung des Schattenbildes und klärt den Subjektbegriff Schillers nach seinem Kant-Erlebnis.
Dramat Schillera Obóz Wallensteina kreśli sylwetkę protagonisty przez jego nieobecność. Tragiczny los Wallensteina: zdrada, utrata panowania nad armią oraz jego gwałtowna śmierć ukazane zostały w utworze nie poprzez rzeczywistą postać wodza, lecz przez jego cień w obozie. Cień głównego bohatera zmienia krążące w życiu codziennym obozu pogłoski w prawdę, a prawdę w historię. Artykuł zajmuje się badaniem roli cienia realnego bohatera i wyjaśnia Schillerowskie pojęcie subiektywizmu oparte na koncepcjach moralnych zaczerpniętych z filozofii Kanta.
Schiller’s drama Wallensteins Lager („Wallenstein’s Camp“) delineates the profile of the protagonist by means of his absence. The tragic fate of Wallenstein: treason, loss of control over the army and his sudden death have been presented in the play not through a real character of the general but through his shadow in the camp. The shadow of the main hero changes the rumours circulating in everyday life of the camp into the truth, and the truth into history. The article studies the role of the shadow of the real protagonist and explains Schiller’s notion of subjectivism based on moral concepts borrowed from Kant’s philosophy.

Analysis of the process of theoretical reception of F. Schiller's dramas in Warsaw during the partitions is a part of an extensive study on all forms of reception of dramas of the German classic author in Polish circles of readers in Poland at about 1800 and until the recent times. The history of staging Schiller's dramas was in the Russian partition most strongly influenced by the political factor, like for instance, the context of both national uprisings (positive factor) and the repressions of the Tsarist authorities resulting from them. The decisive influence on the position of F. Schiller's drama in the theatres of Warsaw was the activity of W. Bogusławski and the eminent actors as well as literary refinement of Polish magnates, noblemen and powerful intelligentsia.
