Opis:
Urządzenia cięcia plazmowego są obecnie powszechnie wykorzystywane w wielu procesach technologicznych związanych z wytwarzaniem konstrukcji metalowych. Są one także źródłem zakłóceń elektromagnetycznych. Mogą wpływać na kompatybilność elektromagnetyczną sąsiadujących urządzeń, doprowadzając, w przypadku przekroczenia wartości granicznych, do zakłóceń ich pracy. Z punktu widzenia przepisów o bezpieczeństwie i higienie pracy, emisje promieniowania elektromagnetycznego są także czynnikiem środowiskowym powodującym narażenia personelu obsługującego urządzenia. Z tej przyczyny ważne jest prowadzenie pomiarów emisji promieniowanych od urządzeń przemysłowych. W artykule omówiono problematykę promieniowania elektromagnetycznego emitowanego podczas pracy urządzeń do cięcia plazmowego. Przedstawiona została budowa plazmotronu (palnika plazmowego) oraz jego zasada działania. Przeprowadzone zostały pomiary emisji pola elektromagnetycznego podczas pracy przecinarki plazmowej na jej stanowisku roboczym. Wyniki pomiarów zostały zaprezentowane i przeanalizowane. Pozwoliły one sformułować wniosek, że występujące w trakcie cięcia plazmowego emisje pola elektromagnetycznego nie przekraczają wartości granicznych i nie powodują zagrożenia dla personelu obsługującego urządzenie.
Plasma cutting machines are now widely used in many technological processes involved in the manufacture of metal structures. They are also a source of electromagnetic interferences. It may influence the electromagnetic compatibility of nearby devices, leading, in the case of exceeding limits, to disruption of their work. From the point of view of the occupational health and safety regulations’, emissions of electromagnetic fields are also factor causing exposure of operating personnel. For this reason, it is important to conduct measurements of radiated emissions from industrial equipment. The article discusses the issues of electromagnetic radiation emitted during operation of the plasma cutting machine. The construction of plasma torch and its principle of operation are presented. The measurement results of the emitted electromagnetic fields are presented and analyzed. The results lead to the conclusion that electromagnetic field emissions from plasma arc cutter are safe for technical personnel.

This invited paper has been written on the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Nuclear Research (IBJ). The introduction describes basic nuclear fusion reactions and the appearance of high-temperature plasma, as well as different methods of the plasma generation and containment. The first part of the paper contains a concise description of the present status of research on controlled fusion and the construction of a thermonuclear reactor. The most important results of experiments oriented on magnetic confinement fusion (MCF) or inertial confinement fusion (ICF) are characterized. The second part of the paper presents a story of high-temperature plasma research carried out at IBJ (and now continued at IPJ) at Świerk. The main experimental facilities and scientific results, as obtained with those, are described. The most important achievements of IBJ (IPJ) researchers in the field of plasma physics and technology are indicated, and in particular: invention and development of the so-called RPI facilities producing intense plasma-ion streams, discovery and experimental study of a new configuration of a magnetic trap called the spherical multipole (SM) configuration, development of various plasma diagnostic techniques, and the optimization of different plasmafocus (PF) facilities.

This paper concerns important and difficult problems connected with a design and construction of thermonuclear reactors, which have to use nuclear fusion reactions of heavy isotopes of hydrogen, i.e., deuterium (D) and tritium (T). There are described conditions in which such reactions can occur, and different methods of a high-temperature plasma generation, i.e., high-current electrical discharges, intense microwave pulses, and injection of energetic neutral atoms (NBI). There are also presented experimental facilities which can contain hot plasma for an appropriate period, and particularly so-called tokamaks. The second part presents the technical problems which must be solved in order to build a thermonuclear reactor, that might be used for energetic purposes. There are considered problems connected with a choice of constructional materials for a vacuum chamber, its internal parts, external windings generating a magnetic fi eld, and necessary shields. The next part considers the handling of radioactive tritium; the using of alpha particles (4He) for additional heating of plasma; recuperation of hydrogen isotopes absorbed in the tokamak internal parts, and a removal of a helium excess. There is presented a scheme of a future thermonuclear power plant and critical comments on a road map which should enable the construction of an industrial thermonuclear reactor (DEMO).

The first part of this invited paper is devoted to mechanisms of the production of fast electrons in plasma experiments involving magnetic traps of the tokamak type. The phenomenon of generation of the so-called runaway electrons - which may reach energies up to several dozen MeV - is considered and basic characteristics of such electrons are described. In particular, the orbits of the runaway electrons and their energy limits are presented. Problems related to the cross-field transport in tokamak plasmas and interactions of the relativistic electrons with plasma oscillations are also considered. Production of the so-called ripple-born electrons, which may be observed in the energy range from approximately 50 keV to several hundreds keV, is analyzed separately. In the second part of this paper various diagnostic methods used for investigation of the runaway and ripple-born electrons are presented. Various techniques are described, which are based on different reactions induced by the runaway electrons, e.g., the emission of X-rays or neutrons, or the synchrotron radiation. Finally, a modern technique of electron measurements is described, which was developed by the author's team at the Andrzej Sołtan Institute for Nuclear Studies (IPJ) in Świerk (Poland), and which is based on the use of Cherenkov-type detectors. Examples of applications of the discussed techniques in different tokamak experiments are described. Particular attention is paid to the Cherenkov detectors, which have already been used in experiments at the small-size CASTOR device in Prague (Czech Republic), the ISTTOK machine in Lisbon (Portugal), as well as in the larger TORE-SUPRA facility in Cadarache (France).

This invited paper considers reasons why exact measurements of fast electron and ion losses in tokamaks, and particularly i n a scrape-off-layer and near a divertor region, are necessary in order to master nuclear fusion energy production. Attention is also paid to direct measurements of escaping fusion products from D-D and D-T reactions, and in particular of fast alphas which might be used for plasma heating. The second part describes the generation of so-called runaway and ripple-born electrons which might induce high energy losses and cause severe damages of internal walls in fusion facilities. Advantages and disadvantages of different diagnostic methods applied for studies of such fast electrons are discussed. Particular attention is paid to development of a direct measuring technique based on the Cherenkov effect which might be induced by fast electrons in appropriate radiators. There are presented various versions of Cherenkov-type probes which have been developed by the NCBJ team and applied in different tokamak experiments. The third part is devoted to direct measurements of fast ions (including those produced by the nuclear fusion reactions) which can escape from a high-temperature plasma region. Investigation of fast fusion-produced protons from tokamak discharges is reported. New ion probes, which were developed by the NCBJ team, are also presented. For the fi rst time there is given a detailed description of an ion pinhole camera, which enables irradiation of several nuclear track detectors during a single tokamak discharge, and a miniature Thomson-type mass-spectrometer, which can be used for ion measurements at plasma borders.

Opis:
The motion of deuterons in dynamical filamentary configurations of a PF pinch column has been studied with a three-dimensional numerical model. Apart from magnetic fields, the motion-induced electrical fields as well as ion-ion and ion-electron collisions have been included in the equations of deuteron motion. Calculations were performed for different numbers of filaments and its spatial distributions under different initial conditions. Energy of ions was assumed to be from 10 keV up to 200 keV. The results obtained have shown many possible modes of ion motion and have demonstrated that the current filaments can cause peculiarities observed in the angular distribution of deuterons emitted from the PF pinch column.

The authors of this article have identified and characterized key performance indicators of database servers with a particular focus on Microsoft SQL Server. Practical part of this article concerns to the construction of dashboards on mobile devices to monitor performance of database server Microsoft SQL Server developed using Microsoft Mobile Report Publisher. Methodology of dashboard development has been described and evaluated.

This paper summarizes results of the recent Plasma-Focus (PF) studies carried out with different PF facilities in Poland, which were operated at energies ranging from 100 kJ to about 1000 kJ. Particular attention has been paid to currentsheath (CS) dynamics, the emission of pulsed X-rays, fast electron beams, energetic ion beams, and fusion-produced neutrons. Some efforts, undertaken in order to increase the neutron emission, have been described. In particular, nuclear targets made of D2O-ice layers, which were deposited upon special cryogenic devices, have been applied in the PF-360 machine. An increase in the neutron yield from 2.4×1010 up to 3.8×1010 neutrons per shot has been achieved in 130-kJ discharges. With the PF-1000 machine, for the first time the well-formed plasma pinch columns were obtained in PF discharges performed at 1 MJ, and the neutron yield of 2×1011 neutrons per shot was achieved.

Płatność za te dobra odbywa się gotówką lub też w drodze odroczonej płatności. Przedsiębiorcy, którzy decydują się na sprzedaż swoich dóbr w drodze odroczonej płatności, muszą się liczyć z ewentualnymi zatorami płatniczymi, co powoduje dodatkowe obciążenie finansowe w postaci zaciągania kredytu lub sprzedaży takich wierzytelności, które są trudno ściągalne. W przypadku dokonywania sprzedaży wierzytelności wraz z tą transakcją odbywa się jej przekazanie na nowy podmiot poprzez cesję.
In this article, regulations by law regarding change of creditor on the ground of an Assignment Agreement are presented. Previously, the Polish law of obligations was set in Code of Obligations. This Code has been replaced by the regulations contained in the Civil Code which has been in force till now. The Legislator expressly ensures the Debtor the same rights and obligations before and after the Assignment. Particular articles of the Civil Code herein presented give the full image of protection of the debtor. Debt collection agencies in Poland, as main entities in claims trading, are obliged to follow the statutory provisions in order to avoid liability towards the debtor.

The shape of the optimal rod determined in the work meets the condition of mass conservation in relation to the reference rod. At the same time, this rod shows a significant increase in resistance to axial force. In the examples presented, this increase was 80% and 117%, respectively, for rods with slenderness of 125 and 175. A practical benefit from the use of compression rods of the proposed shapes is clearly visible. The example presented in this publication shows how great the utility in the structural mechanics can be, resulting from the applications of complex analysis (complex numbers). This approach to many problems can find its solutions, while they are lacking in the real numbers domains. What is more, although these are operations on complex numbers, these solutions have often their real representations, as the numerical example shows. There are too few applications of complex numbers in the technique and science, therefore it is obvious that the use of complex analysis should have an increasing range. One of the first people to use complex numbers was Girolamo Cardano. Cardano, using complex numbers, was solving cubic equations, unsolvable to his times – as the famous Franciscan and professor of mathematics Luca Pacioli put it in his paper Summa de arithmetica, geometria, proportioni et proportionalita (1494). It is worth mentioning that history has given Cardano priority in the use of complex numbers, but most probably they were discovered by another professor of mathematics – Scipione del Ferro (cf. [1]). We can see, that already then, they were definitely important (complex numbers).

The far-infrared photoconductivity due to shallow donors was measured in semi-insulating GaAs for different states of the EL2 defect - normal, metastable, and during the transition - with and without hydrostatic pressure. The results show that the intra-donor transition line broadening observed previously after transferring the EL2 to the metastable configuration cannot be due to lattice distortion effects, and can only be explained in terms of a spatial correlation of charged EL2(+) and acceptor A(-) states, which form electric dipoles.

This paper is based on an invited lecture given at the 10th International Workshop and Summer School "Towards Fusion Energy", which was held in Kudowa Zdrój, Poland, on June 12–18, 2011. A concise review is presented of the known experimental results on various plasma Z-pinch experiments supplied by high-voltage and high-current pulsed power generators. The most important issues and the most valuable results in this domain are highlighted. A broad class of various Z-pinches is considered, including simple inter-electrode discharges, single exploding wires, so-called X-pinches, cylindrical wire-array Z-pinches, radial wire-array discharges, conical wire-array experiments, and gas-puffed Z-pinches. Non-cylindrical Z-pinch discharges (often called plasma focus experiments) are also briefly characterized. The most important characteristics of each category of experiments are outlined. Particular attention is paid to fusion-oriented high-power Z-pinch experiments and the problems encountered in experiments with various sophisticated fusion targets. The main issues in the described Z-pinch experiments are identified. Finally, new trends in the dense Z-pinch research are described.

Praca dotyczy problemu binarnego sterowania układu automatycznego dopasowania dowolnych obciążeń zespolonych w szerokim paśmie częstotliwości. Omówiono strukturę układu dopasowania oraz kwantowanie i kodowanie zmiennych wartości elementów układu. Przedstawiono modele elementów, makroelementów oraz całego układu dopasowującego z uwzględnieniem strat i parametrów pasożytniczych. Opracowano oprogramowanie komputerowe realizujące projektowanie, optymalizację oraz symulację układu automatycznego dopasowania z wykorzystaniem modeli rzeczywistych wszystkich elementów układu. Zamieszczono wyniki projektowania i symulacji charakterystyk układu dopasowania anteny o małych rozmiarach geometrycznych stosowanych w terminalach mobilnych systemów radiokomunikacji.
The paper presents a problem of computer-aided design of automatic matching devices controlled within the broad frequency band for arbitrary complex loads. The basic block of the automatic matching device is a matching circuit consisting of a serial inductance L and a parallel capacitor C connected to the device input or output (Γ network). It is described in Paragraph 2. The capacity and inductance values are controlled by a microcontroller. A binary control algorithm for automatic matching of arbitrary complex loads is presented in Paragraph 3. There are described the ideal network structure as well as quantization and coding of the variable network element values . A structure of the binary-stepped switching matching network is shown in Fig.4. A pin diode is used as a switch for the capacitor connected to the device input or output. The models of the matching device real elements with parasitic parameters are used for calculation. A special software for calculations of the automatic matching device elements was developed. In Paragraph 4 there is considered an example of the matching problem of complex load. Calculations were performed for ideal and real structures of the matching device elements. A step of the element quantization value was assumed to be equal to ΑL=0,01uH and ΑC=2pF, the values were coded with 8 bits. The calculation results are presented in Figs.6-12. The proposed solution is especially recommended for matching the structures with dynamic changes of complex loads within the broad frequency band.

W ustawie – Prawo Wodne zapisano regulację prawną dotyczącą udoskonalenia odprowadzania ścieków do wód gruntowych. W Polsce ogromna liczba budynków mieszkalnych czy też gospodarczych jest rozproszona, co utrudnia budowanie zbiorczych oczyszczalni ścieków. Osoby posiadające takie budynki powinny budować przydomowe oczyszczalnie ścieków. Gminy coraz częściej ustawowo proponują dopłaty do tego typu inwestycji, co z jednej strony zwalnia ich z obowiązku budowy zbiorowych oczyszczalni, a drugiej zabezpiecza troskę o ochronę środowiska na własnym terenie. Każda oczyszczalnia powinna spełniać zarówno wymogi formalne jak też wymogi ochrony środowiska.
Owners of scattered households are more often finding out building household wastewater treatment plants useful. Polish legislation has been fitted to the European Union’s law in this aspect, however there is a lack of appropriate tools to control over newly build household wastewater treatment plants. Local governments shows more financial support for those households, which are going to build household wastewater treatment plants, and at the same way making the contribution in protecting the environment. Rules of the building law, and the water law as equal are, clearly require certain responsibilities on households on the range of those types of wastewater treatment plants. Rules are making requirements for manufacturers of those wastewaters very clearly. Those must have reach minimal quality standards, every reservoir must go under proper certification. If all those parameters are going to be respected by the manufactureres and the users, so as local governments, then the environmental protection in this matter will be uphold.

Opis:
A new method of semi-automatic liver cell counting is presented. Instead of segmenting the cells bodies (not regular and fragmented in some stages of the cells life) it localizes the cells nuclei which are bright, homogeneous and elliptical structures with darker body (body fragments) on their circumference. The nuclei are modeled by ellipses which can be found in two manners: by local region growing algorithm and by reconstruction of the ellipse equation from its contour points. The found ellipses set is then downsized (since all possible ellipses are initially considered) by eliminating the closest one to another and the worst ones by mean of a special fitness function. The method is implemented as a visual, multiplatform JAVA application, easy to use in the scientific every-day work. It is evaluated on real microscopic in-vitro images of the hepatic stellate cells.
W artykule tym zaprezentowana jest nowa, półautomatyczna metoda zliczania komórek wątroby. Zamiast skupiać sięna ciałach komórek (w niektórych fazach ich życia nieregularnych i pofragmentowanych) lokalizuje ona ich jądra, które są jasnymi, jednolitymi i eliptycznymi strukturami otoczonymi przez ciemniejsze ciało (lub jego fragmenty). Jądra komórek są modelowane na 2 sposoby: przez lokalny algorytm rozrostu obszaru i przez odtworzenie równania elipsy z jej punktów na obwodzie.Wśród wszystkich znalezionych elips (początkowa każda jej potencjalna lokalizacja jest brana pod uwagę) wybierane są lokalnie najlepsze oraz te, których dopasowanie, mierzone specjalną funkcją, jest powyżej pewnego progu. Metoda została zaimplementowana jako graficzna, wieloplatformowa, przyjazna dla użytkownika aplikacja w języku JAVA. Jej działanie zostało ocenione na rzeczywistych mikroskopowych obraz in-vitro komórek wątroby.

The paper concerns investigations of shallow centres in semi-insulating (SI) GaAs samples. A very sensitive measuring method - magnetophotoconductivity due to intra-shallow-donor transitions - was used. We report the behaviour of intra-impurity transitions as well as an additional structure in low magnetic fields for different far-infrared wavelengths (70.6 μm, 96.5 μm, 118.8 μm, 163 µm). The results are discussed in terms of a fluctuating potential from ionized centres in SI GaAs. The physical mechanism responsible for the low magnetic field structure is proposed.

The article discusses active wheel systems used in motor vehicles and aviation. The use of chassis with active wheels, i.e. wheels equipped with integral electric drive, significantly facilitates maneuvering of helicopters during taxiing. This allows you to reduce fuel costs and increase the safety of both helicopter crews and ground personnel.
W artykule omówione zostały systemy aktywnych kół stosowane w pojazdach samochodowych oraz w lotnictwie. Zastosowanie podwozia z aktywnymi, tzn. kołami wyposażonymi w integralny napęd elektryczny, znacząco ułatwia manewrowanie śmigłowcami podczas kołowania. Pozwala to na obniżenie kosztów paliwowych i zwiększenie bezpieczeństwa zarówno załóg śmigłowców jak i personelu naziemnego.

Celem artykułu była ocena wrażliwości miasta Kalisza na czynniki klimatyczne jako podstawy opracowania miejskiej strategii adaptacyjnej. Ocenę oparto na danych i informacjach społecznych, gospodarczych i o środowisku – ilościowych i jakościowych. W analizach ustalono, że Kalisz najbardziej wrażliwy jest na fale upałów, powodzie i susze oraz koncentrację zanieczyszczeń powietrza. Grupy ludności najbardziej wrażliwe na fale upałów (dzieci i osoby starsze), stanowiące prawie 25% populacji miasta, w większości (prawie 72%), zamieszkują tereny śródmiejskie i osiedla blokowe, charakteryzujące się parametrami zagospodarowania terenu niekorzystnymi z punktu widzenia komfortu termicznego mieszkańców. W zasięgu wody 100-letniej mieszka ok. 1% ludności miasta, a wody 500-letniej ponad 4%. Powodzie zagrażają także części ujęć wody. Miasto jest podatne na podtopienia w wyniku opadów ulewnych oraz potencjalnie wrażliwe na susze. Ekspansja zainwestowania miejskiego na terenach otwartych po stronie nawietrznej oraz na terenach głównego kanału napowietrzania miasta w dolinie rzeki, spowoduje wzrost wrażliwości miasta na ten czynnik związany z klimatem. Uwzględnienie oczekiwanych zmian klimatu w dokumentach strategicznych rozwoju miasta w dłuższym horyzoncie czasowym powinno polegać na modernizacji sieci kanalizacyjnej, racjonalizacji zużycia wody, rozbudowie infrastruktury błękitno-zielonej, wprowadzaniu rozwiązań przyjaznych środowisku w ogrzewaniu i transporcie. W dziedzinie społecznej niezbędne jest zapewnienie klimatyzacji w okresie letnim w obiektach usług publicznych – ochrony zdrowia i edukacji.
The work aimed at assessing sensitivity to climate change of town of Kalisz to provide basis for urban adaptation strategy. The assessment was based on climatic, socio-economic and environmental data as well as on spatial management information. It was found that Kalisz are most sensitive to heat waves, floods, droughts and to air pollution. Groups of people most sensitive to heat waves (children and elderly people) which constitute almost 25% of the urban population, reside mainly in midtown areas and inhabit blocks of flats where thermal comfort parameters are disadvantageous for city dwellers. Nearly 1% of the town population lives within the reach of a 100-year flood water, while more than 4% live within the reach of a 500-year water. Floods also threat to a part of water intake installations. The town is prone to flush flooding which tend to occur here with increased frequency. The town depends on infiltrative intakes of quaternary water, it potentially makes Kalisz sensitive to droughts under condition of decreased precipitation and excessive exploitation of groundwater. The planned expansion of urban development onto windward open areas will block city ventilating channels what worsted air conditions in the city. Vital issues to be tackled include in urban strategies: upgrading of sewer system, water use rationalization, extension of blue-green infrastructure and introduction of environmentally friendly solutions in heat provision and city transportation systems.

The paper reports on investigations of dense magnetized plasmas produced within a modernized PF-360 facility, which was operated with an additional planar cryogenic target placed in the front of the electrode outlet and covered with D2O-ice layers. The main aim of these studies was to overcome the neutron saturation effect and to increase the maximum neutron yield from PF discharges by using fast deuteron beams. Such beams are usually emitted from a pinch region and can produce fast neutrons from D-D reactions during their interactions with the additional target.

The paper describes a new technique which has been investigated in order to overcome the neutron saturation effect and to increase the neutron yield from the plasma-focus (PF) discharges [1]. The PF-360 experimental facility was constructed at the Andrzej Soltan Institute for Nuclear Studies (IPJ) in Swierk, Poland in the late 70s [4, 5]. Recently in order to improve the neutron yield from the PF-360 machine, it was proposed to use a cryogenic deuterium target, which might be placed within the plasma-focus region. For this purpose, we have been made a needle-like cryogenic target covered with a thin „heavy-ice“ layer. A considerable increase in the average neutron yield (from 1.7×1010 to about 2.2×1010 neutrons/shot) has been achieved for 122 kJ PF discharges when the needle target top was placed at a distance of about 100 mm from the electrode ends.

The temperature dependence of refractive index of the mineral transformer oil Nynas Nytro Taurus within the range 278-385K is determined. Changes with temperature in the quadratic electrooptic response of the oil are investigated. The results obtained indicate the usefulness of the oil as immersion liquid in measurements of the quadratic electrooptic effect and electrostriction in crystals.
Wyznaczono temperaturową zależność współczynnika załamania światła w oleju mineralnym Nynas Nytro Taurus w zakresie temperatur od 278 do 385 K. Zbadano właściwości elektrooptyczne tego oleju w funkcji zmian temperatury. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują, że badany olej może być stosowany jako ciecz immersyjna w pomiarach efektów elektrooptycznych i elektrostrykcji w kryształach.

The paper reports results of the recent experimental studies of pulsed electron beams and soft X-rays in plasma-focus (PF) experiments carried out within a modifi ed PF-360U facility at the NCBJ, Poland. Particular attention was focused on time-resolved measurements of the fast electron beams by means of two different magnetic analyzers, which could record electrons of energy ranging from about 41 keV to about 715 keV in several (6 or 8) measuring channels. For discharges performed with the pure deuterium fi lling, many strong electron signals were recorded in all the measuring channels. Those signals were well correlated with the fi rst hard X-ray pulse detected by an external scintillation neutron-counter. In some of the analyzer channels, electron spikes (lasting about dozens of nanoseconds) and appearing in different instants after the current peculiarity (so-called current dip) were also recorded. For several discharges, fast ion beams, which were emitted along the z-axis and recorded with nuclear track detectors, were also investigated. Those measurements confi rmed a multibeam character of the ion emission. The time-integrated soft X-ray images, which were taken side-on by means of a pinhole camera and sensitive X-ray fi lms, showed the appearance of some fi lamentary structures and so-called hot spots. The application of small amounts of admixtures of different heavy noble gases, i.e. of argon (4.8% volumetric), krypton (1.6% volumetric), or xenon (0.8% volumetric), decreased intensity of the recorded electron beams, but increased intensity of the soft X-ray emission and showed more distinct and numerous hot spots. The recorded electron spikes have been explained as signals produced by quasi-mono-energetic microbeams emitted from tiny sources (probably plasma diodes), which can be formed near the observed hot spots.

The paper reports on detailed studies of an anisotropy of the fusion-produced neutrons emitted from the modernized PF-360 facility [10], which has been operated with a pure deuterium-gas filling, without and with some additional solidstate targets containing deuterium atoms. Under standard operational conditions, anisotropy of the neutron yield from the PF-360 facility is similar to that observed in other PF devices. For the first time the neutron emission anisotropy has been measured in the PF experiments performed with a planar cryogenic target covered with a heavy-ice (D2O) layer. Changes in the Yn(Φ)/Yn(90°) ratio, particularly for angles Φ = 0–60°, have been explained by the known features of the angular distribution of fast deuterons.

Soft X-ray imaging is a very useful diagnostic technique in plasma-focus (PF) experiments. This paper reports results of four experimental sessions which were carried out at the DPF-1000U plasma-focus facility in 2013 and 2014. Over 200 discharges were performed at various experimental conditions. Measurements were taken using two X-ray pinhole cameras with a line of sight perpendicular to the z-axis, at different azimuthal angles (about 20° and 200°), and looking towards the centre of the PF-pinch column. They were equipped with diaphragms 1000 μm or 200–300 μm in diameter and coated with filters of 500 μm Al foil and 10 μm Be foil, respectively. Data on the neutron emission were collected with silver activation counters. For time-resolved measurements the use was made of four PIN diodes equipped with various fi lters and oriented towards the centre of the PF-column, in the direction perpendicular to the electrode axis. The recorded X-ray images revealed that when the additional gas-puff system is activated during the discharge, the stability of the discharge is improved. The data collected in these experiments confi rmed the appearance of a filamentary fi ne structure in the PF discharges. In the past years the formation of such fi laments was observed in many Z-pinch type experiments. Some of the recorded X-ray images have also revealed the appearance of the so-called hot- -spots, i.e. small plasma regions of a very intense X-ray emission. Such a phenomenon was observed before in many PF experiments, e.g. in the MAJA-PF device, but it has not been investigated so far in a large facility such as the DPF-1000U. The time-resolved measurements provided the evidence of a time lapse between the X-ray emission from plasma regions located at different distance from the anode surface. The formation of distinct ‘hot-spots’ in different instants of the DPF-1000U discharge was also observed.

This paper reports on characteristics of alumina-type coatings deposited on steel substrates and treated with pulsed plasma streams containing high-energy ion beams (N, Ar, and Ti+N). Originally matted surfaces of the ceramic layers, which were created by plasma spraying of gray alumina, were changed into shiny ones, and splat boundaries disappeared due to the melting of a thin surface layer. The thickness of this modified layer did not exceed 1 žm. A higher content of Ti was found on the surfaces of the Ti- and N-treated samples only.

The analysis of a plasma impurity composition in many plasma systems (such as coaxial plasma accelerators, magnetic- plasma compressors, plasma-focus devices, and others) is of great importance for plasma physics. In this work we have proposed a new spectral method for the determination of impurity concentrations in relation to the concentration of the main plasma (made of hydrogen in our case). This technique can be used e.g. for diagnostics of a peripheral zone in Plasma-Focus (PF) discharges, where LTE conditions must be fulfilled. Advantages of this method in comparison with other methods, as well as possible errors, are considered and discussed.

This paper present results of optical spectroscopy studies of interactions of intense plasma streams with a solid target made of carbon fibre composite (CFC). The experiments were carried out within the Rod Plasma Injector (RPI) IBIS facility. The optical measurements were performed first for a freely propagating plasma stream in order to determine the optimal operational parameters of this facility. Optical emission spectra (OES) were recorded for different operational modes of the RPI IBIS device, and spectral lines were identified originating from the working gas (deuterium) as well as some lines from the electrode material (molybdenum). Subsequently, optical measurements of plasma interacting with the CFC target were performed. In the optical spectra recorded with the irradiated CFC samples, in addition to deuterium and molybdenum lines, many carbon lines, which enabled to estimate erosion of the investigated targets, were recorded. In order to study changes in the irradiated CFC samples, their surfaces were analysed (before and after several plasma discharges) by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. The analysis of the obtained SEM images showed that the plasma irradiation induces noticeable changes in the surface morphology, for example vaporisation of some carbon fi bres and formation of microcracks. The obtained EDS images showed that upon the irradiated target surface, some impurity ions are also deposited, particularly molybdenum ions from the applied electrodes.

The results of studies of the plasma dynamics and neutron emission on a PF-1000 facility in the stage of pinch formation are presented. The measurements were performed using various modifications of the calibrated magnetic probes, 16 frame interferometry, silver activation counters and photomultiplier tube (PMT) neutron probes. The current measurements at a distance of 40 mm from the axis of the electrodes was measured. This dependence agrees well with the known scaling, Yn similar to I4. The evolution plasma density during pinch formation and a neutron emission were study.

The paper concerns some questions connected with the interaction of high-temperature plasma-ion fluxes with solid materials inside experimental chambers used for fusion-oriented research, and particularly inside the Torsatron-type facilities. Mechanisms of the boron carbide erosion are described and discussed. Also described is the behaviour of TiN-coated stainlesssteel surfaces under the irradiation with hydrogen plasma-ion fluxes. In summary, there are described damages in the boron carbide layers and changes in the composition of the TiN-coatings.

The paper presents results of preliminary measurements of the corpuscular radiation from fast z-pinch discharges, which were performed at the Prague Capillary Pinch facility within a frame of the Czech-Polish scientific collaboration programme. Time-integrated measurements were performed by means of a pinhole camera, equipped with nuclear track detectors of the CR-39 type. In order to perform time-resolved measurements the use was made of a single Faraday-type collector and a double-cup system. It was demonstrated that the fast capillary discharges can emit not only pulses of intense visible radiation and soft X-rays, but also pulses of the corpuscular radiation. An optical analysis of the particle tracks was performed. The particle flux at a distance of 20 cm from the collimator outlet was estimated to be 3.5×107 particles/cm2.

In this note we describe measurements of ion beams emitted along the z-axis of the DPF-1000U facility operated at 23 kV, 334 kJ, and with the initial deuterium pressure of 1.6–2 hPa. The DPF-1000U device was recently renewed and equipped with a dynamic gas-puff valve placed inside the inner electrode. The investigated ions were recorded by means of ion pinhole cameras equipped with solid state nuclear track detectors of the PM-355® (PADC) type. The energy spectra of ions were determined using a Thomson spectrometer placed on the symmetry axis at a distance of 160 cm from the electrodes outlets. The ion images recorded during discharges performed under different experimental conditions show that the ion beams have a complex structure, usually in the form of a central bunch and an annular stream composed of many micro-beams. Energies of the registered deuterons have been in the range of 30–700 keV, while the fast protons (which originated from the hydrogen remnants) had energies in the range of 300–850 keV.

The paper presents recent research on characteristics of deuterium plasma streams generated within an RPI-IBIS (multi-rod plasma injector) facility, and optical spectra of plasma produced during the interaction of these streams with a tungsten target placed at a distance of 20 cm from the electrode outlets. Distinct WI- and WII-lines were recorded and the noticeable erosion of the W-target was observed for shots delivering more than 4 J/cm2 on the target surface.

Solid-state nuclear track detectors (SSNTDs) have been used for the registration of charged particles practically since the beginning of the 1960s, when a new class of detectors, called dielectric track detectors, were discovered. The paper describes applications of the SSNTDs type PM-355 for diagnostics of fusion-reaction protons and other ions emitted from plasma focus (PF) devices, tokamaks and laser facilities. Such detectors were also used in biomedical experiments for beam profile measurements. The results of our calibration studies of SSNTDs as well as charged particle- and biomedical measurements, which were carried out within different facilities, are presented.

Experimental results are presented on the spatial structure and energetic characteristics of the fast ion beams produced by high-current discharges in a PF-360 device operated at the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ, Otwock/Świerk, Poland). The 105 kJ discharges were initiated at the initial deuterium pressure around p0 = 6 hPa and were powered from a 234 miF capacitor bank charged up to 30 kV. The spatial structure of the ion beams was recorded using pinhole cameras equipped with the solid-state nuclear track detectors of the PM-355 type, placed at two different angles (0 centigrade, 45 centigrade) relative to the discharge axis. The detectors were shielded by thin absorption filters made of pure Al foils of various thickness, which made it possible to record only ions with energies exceeding a chosen threshold value. Similarly as in other plasma focus (PF) experiments, energies of the emitted ions ranged from about 30 keV to about 3 MeV, i.e. they were much higher than the voltage applied to the electrodes. The recorded ion images showed a complex spatial structure of the fast ion beams, which consisted of many micro-beams of different energies. It is possible that these beams were emitted by various local micro-sources (e.g. plasma micro-diodes) the were formed inside the PF pinch column.

We found that the fine structure related to Lyman spectra of [Mn$\text{}^{2+}$(d$\text{}^{5}$) + a hole] centers in GaAs was present only for samples with low Mn concentration. Such samples, at low temperature, did not show any hopping conductance within Mn impurity band. Magnetooptical measurements revealed that magnetic field induced splitting of the Lyman optical transitions was larger than Zeeman splitting observed for typical shallow acceptors in GaAs, like Be, Zn, and C. This experimental result proved that in the case of Mn acceptor impurity, the exchange coupling of a hole and the S = 5/2 Mn$\text{}^{2+}$(d$\text{}^{5}$) core could not be neglected, which was in accordance with the [Mn$\text{}^{2+}$(d$\text{}^{5}$) + a hole] model of the neutral Mn center in GaAs.

The optical spectroscopy in the visible range was used to determine properties of the dense magnetized plasma generated in the PF-1000, a 1 MJ plasma focus device operating in the Institute of Plasma Physics and Laser Microfusion (IPPLM) in Warsaw, Poland. The experiments were performed in a vacuum chamber pumped out to the basic pressure of 2 x 10.5 hPa. The initial pressure of the pure deuterium filling was 2.9 hPa, while that of the deuterium--argon mixture was 1.07 hPa of D2 and 0.13 hPa of Ar. The deuterium-plasma emission contained the Balmer series (Dalfa, Dbeta and Dgamma) and a few distinct copper (Cu I) lines originating from the inner electrode material. The emission of the deuterium-argon plasma was rich in Ar II lines. The electron density (ne), averaged over line of sight, of order of 1016 cm.3 was calculated on the basis of the Dalfa and Dbeta emission only, because the D�ż line was strongly self-absorbed. A group of the Ar II spectral lines was used to estimate the excitation temperature (Texc = 3 eV) by means of a Boltzmann plot. Additionally, the temporal evolution of the electron density was determined on basis of the Stark broadening of the Dalfa and Dgamma lines.

Measurements of fast electrons, as performed during recent few years in small tokamaks, demonstrated that detectors based on the Cherenkov effect are very useful tools for such studies. The modernized measuring heads, which were equipped with miniature aluminum-nitride (AlN) radiators, enabled to determine locations and instants of the fast electrons emission and to estimate their energy. A comparison of four measuring channels showed that in ISTTOK the most important role was played by electrons of energy less than 90 keV.

In this paper we report on measurements of the energy spectra and other properties of the electron and fast ion beams emitted in the upstream and downstream direction along the z-axis of a large plasma focus device PF-1000, that was operated at 21-27 kV, delivering 290–480 kJ pulse. Measurements of the electron beam (EB) properties were performed using a magnetic analyzer. Properties of the ion beams were measured by means of pinhole cameras equipped with PM-355 nuclear track detectors and placed at various angles (0, 60 and 180 centigrade) to the discharge axis. Measurements revealed a complex spatial structure of the fast ion beams. The ion measurements behind the PF-1000 collector proved that some fast deuterons are emitted also in the upstream direction. Measurements of the EBs emitted in the upstream and downstream direction revealed electron energies in the range from approximately 40 keV to approximately 800 keV. These spectra confirm that in localized regions within the PF-1000 plasma column there appear strong fields accelerating charged particles in different directions along the discharge axis.
