Opis:
The recombination nearby large band-offset staggered lineup N-GaSb/n-GaInAsSb heterojunction was investigated by means of the electroluminescence and carrier lifetime measurements. It was demonstrated that the nature of recombination, tuning rate as well as relation between radiative and non-radiative recombination strongly depend on the N-n band-offset and that its increase improves the carrier localization on the N-n interface.

Opis:
In this paper a geometrical link between partial differential equations (PDE) and special coordinate nets on two-dimensional smooth manifolds with the a priori given curvature is suggested. The notion of G-class (the Gauss class) of differential equations admitting such an interpretation is introduced. The perspective of this approach is the possibility of applying the instruments and methods of non-Euclidean geometry to the investigation of differential equations. The equations generated by the coordinate nets on the Lobachevsky plane $Λ^2$ (the hyperbolic plane) take a particular place in this study. These include sine-Gordon, Korteweg-de Vries, Burgers, Liouville and other equations. They form the so-called $Λ^2$-class (the Lobachevsky class). The theorems on the mutual transformation of solutions of $Λ^2$-class equations are formulated. On the base of the developed approach a transformation allowing one to construct global solutions of Liouville type equations from solutions of the Laplace equation is established. Natural generalizations of the well-known nonlinear PDE from the non-Euclidean geometry point of view are proposed. The possibility of the applications of the discussed formalism in the phase spaces theory is stressed.

Opis:
Direct and inverse muon transfer between atomic orbits of muonic hydrogen isotopes is considered in the WKB approximation. The corresponding cross sections, calculated as functions of collision energy, are different above the thresholds for the inverse transfer and approach common limits depending on the principal quantum number and hydrogen isotopes. The comparison of results obtained by integration over impact parameter and by summation over angular momentum is also presented.

We study the construction of an outer factor to a positive definite Popov function Pi(iomega) of a distributed parameter system. We assume that Pi(iomega) is a non-negative definite matrix with non-zero determinant. Coercivity is not assumed. We present a penalization approach which gives an outer factor just in the case when there exists any outer factor.

The results of studies show the deposition conditions of the titanium-nitride based coatings and their structure influence on the tribological characteristics of the dry friction and in the diesel fuel. Tribological characteristics of multilayered systems on the basis of diamond-like coatings (DLC) have been studied. The deposition of the systems onto small-size cutting tools is found efficient for improving their service characteristics. When depositing the coatings to the cutting tool surface the microrelief of edges is not distorted and the service life increases 1.3 - 1.5 times. The morphology and tribological behaviour of composite and multi-layer polymer coatings based on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyurethane (PU) are studied after deposition by means the method of electron beam dispersion. It is shown possibility to produce fine-film systems based on polyurethane with polytetrafluoroethylene as filler that possess high tribological performance.

In October, 2007, the Acoustics Institute performed complex acoustical and oceanological studies on a fixed experimental path in the Black Sea, near the Golubaya Bay. Sound signal with linear frequency modulation were used in the experiment. The processing of the experimental records consisted in computing the envelope of the correlation function of the received and transmitted signals and the time dependence of the correlation maxima. A characteristic change in arrival times of the rays is observed for the period of the income of cold near-bottom waters on the path. The quasi-harmonic variation in the arrival times of the ray groups allows one to correctly define the parameters of short-period internal waves accompanying the bore.

A new, unusual rhynchonellide brachiopod Jafarirhynchus alatus assigned to the newly established family Jafarirhynchidae is described from the Silurian (Telychian) of the Boghu Mountains in east-central Iran. It forms a low diversity association with the spiriferide Striispirifer? ocissimus, which exhibits well preserved calcified brachial supports. A strophic shell, well-developed ventral interarea and liberosessile mode of life make this taxon unique among Palaeozoic rhynchonellide brachiopods. In spite of a superficial similarity to spiriferides and the atrypide family Davidsonioidea, Jafarirhynchus retains the typical rhynchotrematoid cardinalia with a septalium supported by the median septum, a septiform cardinal process and long, raduliform crura. It is considered as an offshoot of the local lineage, which includes two successive species of Stegocornu (family Rhynchotrematidae) which proliferated in Central Iran and adjacent Afghanistan during Aeronian time.

A long term experiment on studying fluctuations of the parameters of pulsed sound signals in a shallow sea was carried out in the region of the northeastern coast of the Black sea in autumn, 2004. the data were collected on a 1.2-km fixed propagation pathat a 2-km distance from the coastline. During the entire experimentation, observations of temperature fluctuations near the receiving point were performed by the using the line temperature sensor. Fluctuations of the shape, energy and propagation time of the pulsed signals were studied. an attempt of their relation to the hydrodynamic processes on the shelf was taken. The change in the shape and the energy levelof the signal was analyzed for the moment of passing the anticyclonic topographic eddy over the coastal zone. It was shown that the fluctuations of the propagation time were sometimes as high as 17.6 ms. An enhanceof the short-period acoustic fluctuations accompanying the internsification of the internal waves was observed.

The main focus of research in part-fixture mechanics has been in the static deformation and part constraints. Little attention has been paid to the dynamic behaviour of these systems. However, the dynamics of the system largely determines the obtained precision during the machining process. The part is modelled as a lumped mass-spring model and the clampers and locators of the fixture are modelled as spring-dampers. The fixture frame is considered to be much stiffer than the locators, such that it provides zero displacement boundary conditions to the locators. In this study a piezoelectric actuator is utilized to provide adaptive clamping forces. The analysis has shown that position feedback can be used to minimize unnecessary displacement of the workpiece. Additionally, a lag filter can improve the steady state response.

Optical wave reflection from a layered half-space with regular and random inhomogeneities where the regular perturbations correspond to a linear waveguide near the half-space boundary. Random inhomogeneities are simulated in the frame of the white noise model. The problem is solved analytically in a framework of the embedding method which reduces a boundary problem to the problem with initial values considering the field as a function of the half-space boundary coordinate and obtaining then its solution as a steady-state probability density of the reflection coefficient phase. Numerical calculations revealed some features of the field behaviour under the combined influence of regular and random inhomogeneities such as the reflection coefficient phase increasing inhomogeneity from uniform distribution for small regular inhomogeneities toward a strong peak at the phase equal to pi/2 for increasing ones, and some fine effects which are still greater then the calculation accuracy.

This paper presents the combustion synthesis and characterization of one-dimensional silicon carbide nanostructures (nanowires of 3C-SiC polytype with zincblend structure) by means of cathodoluminescence technique. Cathodoluminescence spectra of nano-SiC samples and, as a reference, of a commercially available SiC micropowder are compared. It is shown that the emission band at 1.97 eV which is slightly evidenced in the spectrum of the commercial SiC under 10 keV electron beam irradiation becomes the prevailing band in CL of the purified silicon carbide nanowires.
