Opis:
The mass influx of Poles to the Netherlands dates from 1908. The went there to seek job. At the end of the First World War there lived as many as ca 2000 newcomers from the Polish territory. A new wave of settlers arrived during the interwar years, settling mainly in Limburg, Amsterdam, Hague and Rotterdam. The number of Poles before the Second World War was ca 4000. After the war there arrived in the Netherlands mainly the demobilized Polish soldiers and refugees from Germany. In the 50s they numbered 10 000. The process of outflux of Poles from the Netherlands stopped as late as in the 80s. The Polish emigrants from the very beginning would set up their own trade unions and associations, social and cultural centres whose work was coordinated by the Alliance of Polish Societies (1930), which after the Second World War changed into the Union of Polish Catholic Societies. In the interwar period there was initiated the Polish periodical press and schooling. The Polish pastoral care has been working permanently in the Netherlands since 1928. The Polish Catholic Mission is established in four pastoral regions.

Polska diaspora w Stanach Zjednoczonych Ameryki Północnej w XIX wieku zmieniała się w czasie. Zmianom podlegały również wzajemne kontakty między wychodźstwem polskim w Europie Zachodniej a polską emigracją w USA, inaczej nazywaną Polonią amerykańską. Między latami 30. a 60. XIX wieku relacje obu emigracji były sporadyczne. Wpływały na ten stan rzeczy dwa czynniki: oddalenie geograficzne oraz niewielka liczba polskich emigrantów politycznych w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Ta sytuacja zaczęła się zmieniać pod koniec lat 70., kiedy nastąpił rozwój emigracji zarobkowej, który spowodował gwałtowny wzrost ludności polskiego pochodzenia w Ameryce. W tym okresie przedstawiciele emigracji polskiej w Europie (mieszkający głównie we Francji i Szwajcarii) zaczęli szukać porozumienia ze swoimi odpowiednikami po drugiej stronie oceanu. Robili to na tyle skutecznie, że udało im się doprowadzić do kilku wspólnych inicjatyw. Jedną z nich było powołanie do istnienia Związku Narodowego Polskiego. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę prześledzenia owoców współpracy między wychodźstwem europejskim a amerykańskim na przełomie lat 70. i 80. XIX wieku. Mowa w nim o ludziach oraz instytucjach, które uczestniczyły w tych kontaktach, o sukcesach i porażkach wspólnych inicjatyw.
The Polish diaspora in the United States of America in the nineteenth century changed over time. Mutual contacts between Polish emigration in Western Europe and Polish emigration in the US, also known as the American Polonia, were subject to change. Between the 1830s and 1860s, the relations of both emigrant groups were sporadic. Two factors influenced this state of affairs: their geographical distance and the small number of Polish political emigrants in the United States. This situation began to change in the late 1870s, when economic emigration began to develop, which caused a rapid increase in the Polish origin population in America. During this period, representatives of the Polish emigration in Europe (mainly living in France and Switzerland) began to seek contacts with their counterparts on the other side of the ocean. They did this so effectively that it lead to several joint initiatives. One of them was the establishment of the Polish National Union. This article is an attempt to trace the fruits of cooperation between the European and American emigration at the turn of the 1870s and 1880s. It talks about the people and institutions that participated in these contacts, including the successes and failures of joint initiatives.

Starting from the twelfth century until the outbreak of World War Two there arrive in Spain mainly individual people, or small groups of Poles. Nevertheless, they played a significant role in many spheres. Due to the outbreak of World War Two a numerous group of Poles arrive din Spain. They were refugees from occupied Poland, France, and German camps. These people were well-educated patriots, and established the oldest polish group of emigration in Spain, characteristic of a high social status. The Poles who arrived in Spain in the 1970s and at the beginning of the 1980s had a similar position. After 1988 the most numerous group of Poles arrived in Spain. This recent emigration forms a separate group, consisted mainly of poorly-educated people, oriented basically at the material side of life. The representative of the oldest and more recent emigration were active at the religious, socio-cultural, and scientific levels. Their life in Spain focused in the y ear 1956-1988 around the Rev. Marian Walorek and the Polish Catholic Mission which he conducted in Madrid. It was a great achievement of the PCK that they had organized in 1966 the celebration commemorating the Thousand Years of the Baptism of Poland in Spain. The Spanish nation joined the celebrations, paying homage to the Polish Church. There were many Polish institutions which worked in Spain. The most important of them are as follows: the Polish section of the Radio Nacional de Espana , working in the years 1949- 1976, and the Madrid Legation of the Polish Government in exile. After World War Two Polish organizations of various profiles were established in Spain. We find there, among others, the Society of the Aid to Poles, the Association of Polish Academics in Spain, the Association of Polish Veterans, the Circle of the Eastern Territories of the Polish Republic, and the Association of Polish Technicians. Those organizations had one common goal, ie they sought to keep up the Polish spirit and mutual ties among Poles living in Spain. The representatives of the oldest and more recent emigration developed an editorial activity in Spain. After 1945 the following Polish papers appeared in Spain: ‘'Inter Nos” - a PCK bulletin in Madrid, “Przed Jutrem ” [Before Tomorrow] - a magazine of Polish students from Spain, ''Polonia ” - a Polish illustrated monthly in Spain, and also "Listy z Hiszpanii” [Letters from Spain], and a Polish informative bulletin '"El Correo de Varsovia ” . In 1946 Polish students arrived in Spain, and they actively joined the life of Polish emigration. Over a dozen or so years they graduated from various faculties of Spanish universities, gaining prestigious jobs. The Poles living in Spain opened numerous centres there of a professional and cultural profile, among other things, a factory of mechanical vehicles, medical and paramedical centres, a Polish restaurant, a gallery, and a secondary school. The versatile activity and perfect organization of the Polish community in Spain after 1945 aroused an intensive interest in the Polish spirit in this country. Among those who had largely contributed to the popularization of Polish culture, tradition, and language in Spain, one should mention Gabriela and Stanislaw Makowiecki, Rev. Marian Walorek, Prof. A. Derynga, Count Jozef Potocki, and Dr. Mirosław Sokołowski. Despite the difficult contacts with the homeland, due to the political situation there, there was a continuous communication between the Poles from Spain and compatriots in Poland. This communication was important for both parties. At the time when the communist ideology prevailed spiritual support flowed from Spain, whereas the Polish community in Spain could preserve the most important Polish values.

W artykule pokazano, że stawkę Polonia odzwierciedlającą cenę pieniądza jednodniowego w Polsce można prognozować na podstawie stopy WIBOR O/N, jej przybliżenia z późnego poranka. W tym celu wykorzystano model korekty błędem wywodzący się z modelu ARDL. Po oszacowaniu tego modelu na danych o częstotliwości dziennej z okresu 24.01.2005-31.12.2019 dokonano symulacji 100 sekwencji jednodniowych dynamicznych prognoz stawki Polonia do 30.04.2020 roku, tj. do ostatniego dnia roboczego poprzedzającego znaczącą zmianę systemu stanowienia stawek WIBOR, która skutkowała przesunięciem obliczania i ogłaszania stawki jednodniowej do późnych godzin popołudniowych. Wyznaczono także 95-procentowe przedziały ufności dla tych prognoz. Analiza wyników symulacji prowadzi do wniosku, że model korekty błędem wyspecyfikowany na podstawie kryterium informacyjnego Akaike charakteryzuje się dobrymi własnościami prognostycznymi w próbie oraz poza próbą. Niemniej w chwilach obniżek stóp referencyjnych przez władze monetarne lub bezpośrednio po obniżkach model ten nieznacznie przeszacowuje bieżącą stawkę Polonia. W takich wypadkach stawka ta okazjonalnie wykracza poza dolną granicę przedziału ufności.

Wenecki uwodziciel miał okazję gościć w państwie polskim przez kilkamiesięcy, zanim zniknęło ono w następstwie rozbiorów. Owe doświadczenie opisał szerokow swoich wspomnieniach pt. Histoire de ma vie, jak również w Il Duello, kronice zdarzenia,które przytrafiło się mu z księciem Branickim i które zmusiło go najpierw do pojedynkuz księciem, a później do opuszczenia kraju. Znajomości zawarte na terenie Rzeczypospolitejzachęciły Casanovę do napisania Istoria delle turbolenze della Polonia, historycznego traktatuo kraju; dzieło jednak zostało nieukończone, co było powodem gorzkiej polemiki. Dziękiwnikliwemu obserwatorowi możemy uzyskać cenne uwagi nie tylko dotyczące charakteruautora, ale również Polski tamtych czasów. Informacje te w większości przypadków mająswoje odzwierciedlenie w dowodach historycznych i ukazują nam piękny portret ówczesnegospołeczeństwa polskiego. Słowa kluczowe: Giacomo Casanova, Giacomo Casanova w Polsce, Histoire de ma vie, Istoriadelle turbolenze della Polonia   Poland in the literary works of Giacomo Casanova Abstract The present article contains an analysis of Giacomo Casanova’s literary work, in which Polandappears. The Venetian seducer had stayed in Poland for several months before the countrydisappeared due to partitions. He described his experience in memoirs entitled Histoire dema vie, as well as in libretto Il Duello which chronicles an incident involving duke Branickiand which forced him to first duel the duke and later to leave the country. ConnectionsCasanova made in Poland stimulated him to write Istoria delle turbolenze della Polonia,a historical treatise about the country. However it was never finished which resulted in bitterdispute. Thanks to the soul of inquisitive observer we are given remarks concerning not onlythe author’s character but also those on Poland of that time. Said information is most oftenreflected by historical evidence and give us a perfect picture of Polish society of that period. The article aims to show the presence of American Polonia in the scholarly activity of Institute for the Study of Polish Community and Its Ministry and Institute for the Study of Polish Community and Its Ministry. In the 1970s and 1980s a huge interest in Polish diaspora achievements in the USA was visible in many scientific articles, texts, and monographs published in the yearbook Studia Polonijne. American Polonia has become an object of multidimensional and interdisciplinary research, which turned to be the pioneer ones in some cases.
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie obecności Polonii amerykańskiej w działalności badawczej Zakładu Duszpasterstwa i Migracji Polonijnej KUL (w latach 1984-2006 Instytutu Badań nad Polonią i Duszpasterstwem Polonijnym KUL). W latach siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych XX wieku zainteresowanie historią i dokonaniami polskiej diaspory w USA było duże, co przejawiało się w udziale tekstów naukowych, referatów i opracowań publikowanych w “Studiach Polonijnych”. Polonia amerykańska stała się zatem obiektem wielowymiarowych i interdyscyplinarnych badań, które w wielu przypadkach okazały się pionierskie.

The main purpose of the survey discussed in this paper is to answer the question of which factors describe the status of political integration of Poles in Austria. Political integration concerns the phenomenon of joining the political life of a given political system and, to some extent, also its results. For the purpose of this study the notion of political integration is to stand for the involvement of the ‘visiting’ citizens in the political life of the ‘host’ state, in particular political participation, taking the form of public activity and voting in elections. The survey adopts a general theoretical model where the state of integration of Poles in Austria is comprehended in terms of a three-element political culture (comprising cognitive, emotional-and-assessing, and behavioral elements). It undergoes external influences, related to the period spent living abroad, and domestic influences of social identity (approached functionally). Additionally, the model assumes that these factors can be internally related. The empirical aspect of the analysis is based on the authors’ own survey carried out using a questionnaire, psychological scale and focus group interview of a sample of Polish émigrés in Austria.

The paper deals with the history of the theological journal of Theological Faculty in Krakow. It was initiated just before the end of the First World War, in 1918, and published not without difficulties. There were only three issues printed till the Second World War. After it the publication of “Polonia Sacra” was reinitiated in Krakow. However, because the communist government in Poland expelled the Theological Faculty from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and allowed only that the theology might be taught at the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw, the journal “Polonia Sacra” was published for a very short time in Warsaw. The renewal of the journal “Polonia Sacra” as the official publication of the Faculty of Theology in Krakow was restarted again in 1997 and has been continued till now. The Internet era became a challenge for the journal, which gained the national recognition, and has the aspiration to be an international forum for the academic exchange of theological research.
Artykuł dotyczy historii czasopisma teologicznego Wydziału Teologicznego w Krakowie. Został on zainicjowany tuż przed końcem pierwszej wojny światowej, w 1918 roku i był wydawany nie bez trudności. W okresie dwudziestolecia międzywojennego wydano tylko trzy numery. Po drugiej wojnie światowej ponownie zainicjowano publikację „Polonia Sacra” w Krakowie. Ponieważ jednak komunistyczny rząd w Polsce usunął Wydział Teologiczny z Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie i pozwolił jedynie na nauczanie teologii w Akademii Teologii Katolickiej w Warszawie, czasopismo „Polonia Sacra” było wydane przez bardzo krótki czas w Warszawie. Odnowienie czasopisma teologicznego, „Polonia Sacra” jako oficjalnego pisma Wydziału Teologicznego w Krakowie nastąpiło w 1997 roku i jest kontynuowane do dziś. Era internetu stała się wyzwaniem dla czasopisma, które zyskało narodowe uznanie i ma aspiracje, aby stać się międzynarodowym forum wymiany teologicznej myśli akademickiej.

Tekst stanowi próbę analizy dostępnych w Internecie zasobów, dokumentujących losy członków rodziny autorki, którzy wyemigrowali z Galicji do Stanów Zjednoczonych przed ponad stu laty.
The article discusses selected digital collections that form a source of information on the life of Polish emigrants in the USA in the first half of the 20th century, focusing mainly on materials about the Polish diaspora living in the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The digital resources of several American institutions are presented: Ellis Island Foundation, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (Milwaukee Polonia Roman Kwasniewski Photographs), and National Archives. The text is an attempt to analyze the resources available on the Internet, documenting the history of the author's family members who emigrated from Galicia to the United States over a hundred years ago.

Papieża Benedykta XV-go w roku 1918. Po upadku Towarzystwa w 1925 roku periodyk został przejęty w całości przez ks. Jana Nepomucena Fijałka i ukazywał się pod nazwą „Nova Polonia Sacra”. Wybuch II wojny światowej przerwał wydawanie czasopisma. Wznowione w 1948 roku jako organ Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego otrzymało nowy tytuł „Polonia Sacra: kwartalnik teologiczny”. Po likwidacji przez władze komunistyczne wydziałów teologicznych na polskich uniwersytetach i przeniesieniu Wydziału Teologicznego Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego na Akademię Teologii Katolickiej w Warszawie periodyk stał się organem naukowym tamtejszego Wydziału Prawa i ukazywał się w latach 1954–1958 pod zmienionym tytułem „Polonia Sacra: kwartalnik kanoniczno-historyczny”. Reaktywacja czasopisma pod pierwotną nazwą „Polonia Sacra” nastąpiła w 1997 roku na Wydziale Teologicznym Papieskiej Akademii Teologicznej w Krakowie (od 2009 Uniwersytet Papieski Jana Pawła II w Krakowie).
commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first issue. The journal was created as an organ of the Pope Benedict XV Association in 1918. After the dissolution of the Association in 1925, the periodical was taken over entirely by Fr. Jan Nepomucen Fijałek and it was published under the title „Nova Polonia Sacra”. The outbreak of World War II suspended the publication of the journal. Restarted in 1948 as an organ of the Faculty of Theology of the Jagiellonian University, it received a new title – „Polonia Sacra: a theological quarterly”. After the shutdown of theological faculties at Polish universities by the communist authorities and the transfer of the Faculty of Theology from the Jagiellonian University to the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw, the periodical became an organ of the Faculty of Law and it was published in 1954 – 1958 under the title „Polonia Sacra: a historical and canonical quarterly”. The journal was re-established under the original name of „Polonia Sacra” in 1997 at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Kraków (since 2009 the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków).

For diasporic communities like Polonia, globally dispersed across space and time, the World Wide Web and electronically mediated forms of communication are ways of manifesting their presence and identity in the global context providing at the same time an anchor with the homeland. Tis article tracks the cyber-presence of Polonia on the World Wide Web and documents inreach sites focused on local communities and outreach sites geared at establishing links with the homeland and historical contexts. It also explores issues connectedwith marginalized Polonia communities (i.e. the digital underclass) which lack economic resources to fully participate in contemporary cyberculture.

As a country of immigration, Australia is an interesting laboratory of the dynamics of migrant settlement, diaspora development and sustainment. In this paper we discuss the Polish immigrant community in Australia: Australian Polonia, which is an example of a community of permanent settlers who blended into the Australian host community but retained enough elements of their distinct identity to be considered a part of the Polish emigrant diaspora. This is a traditional diaspora in that it largely excludes temporary migrants. We explore the nature of its attachment to Poland and Polish culture, and discuss the multiple identities of these migrants. The research question that we ask is: in what sense do members of Australian Polonia, ‘belong’ to the Polish diaspora, i.e. how are they attached to ‘things Polish’? Our sources of information include official statistics, mainly the Census of Population (2011), and a survey of Australian Polonia conducted in 2006.

The leading edge of the mass migration from Poland to the USA which began in the 1870s was comprised mostly of ethnic Poles from the German-occupied partition, but these were superseded in the following decade by arrivals from the Austrian partition, who were in turn eclipsed in the latter 1890s by immigrants from the Russian-controlled regions. To the immigrants there were specific differences in regional culture, dialect, and traditions by which they clearly separated themselves into three or more groups. Thus, one of the major challenges facing immigrants was how to create a new Polish American identity from such a diverse collection of subgroups. In particular, the paper focuses on the forms of cultural and identity transmission from generation to generation. It suggests that by emphasizing Old World customs and celebrations, i.e. by remembering Poland, but not Polonia, the immigrants have failed to create a distinctly Polonian identity independent of Poland.

Although Poles started emigrating to Canada in the second half of the 19th century, in London (Canada) – apart from individual, albeit exceptional cases (e.g. Kazimierz Stanisław Gzowski, Hellmuth Isaac) – their colonization falls on the first years of the 20th century. As years went by, their number slowly but constantly increased. This resulted in about 500 Polish people living there in 1939. They fairly eagerly integrated, concentrating their potential in the Towarzystwo Bratniej Pomocy Synów Polskich [The Polish Sons' Brotherly Assistance Association] (next called Polskie Stowarzyszenie Narodowe [The Polish National Association]) and in the Stanisław Staszic Polish School that existed from 1927. After the war – and numerous young Polish Canadians volunteered to join the Polish Army – on the map of social organizations of the London community Stowarzyszenie Polskich Kombatantów (The Polish Combatants Association) appeared. Although the work of the Polish Canadians organizations on the Ontario Thames brought clear-cut results, the factor that united the immigrants from Poland most strongly was their religious life. It was inspired by Polish people themselves, however, it was soon supported by the pastorate care of priests belonging to the community of the Resurrection from Kitchener and Hamilton, and then from other Polish Canadian parishes, or from the curates of the Our Lady parish of London, who – according to the intentions of the London ordinary – were to take Poles under their pastorate protection, too. Despite this, the ever greater and more consolidated Polish community strived after forming their own ethnic parish. In this respect – apart from Bishop Cody's favorable attitude – at the beginning of the 1950s invaluable actions were undertaken by Rev. Jan Achtabowski, the curate of Windsor and Leamington, who worked together with the Polish Canadian organizations. The result of these actions was establishing the Our Lady of Częstochowa parish in London, with Rev. Franciszek Pluta as its first parish priest.

Konwent Polonia — the oldest academic corporation existing to this day, was founded in 1828 in Dorpat. Its history before restitution of Poland’s sovereignty was turbulent — full of confl icts with German students and the Russian authorities — but also not without time for fun and self-education. Unfortunately, materials that directly documented corporation’s activity between 1828 and 1882 were destroyed. This paper presents preserved documentation from the period 1883–1918, a time when Konwent Polonia existed in Tartu — in the absence of Polish State. The article also presents a brief history of the corporation’s archive. These collections are currently held in two institutions, the Archdiocesan Archive of Warsaw and the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius. They document the activity of the Polish academic corporation during the period of Partition of Poland.
Konwent Polonia - najstarsza, istniejąca do dziś korporacja akademicka, powstał w 1828 r. w Dorpacie. Jego dzieje, aż do odzyskania przez Polskę niepodległości, były burzliwe – pełne konfliktów z niemieckimi studentami oraz rosyjskimi władzami, ale także niepozbawione czasu na zabawę i samokształcenie. Niestety, materiały, które w sposób bezpośredni dokumentowałyby jego działalność w latach 1828-1882, zostały zniszczone. Niniejsze opracowanie prezentuje zachowaną dokumentację z okresu 1883-1918, a więc z czasów, kiedy Konwent Polonia działał w Dorpacie – w sytuacji braku Państwa Polskiego, a także skrócone dzieje archiwum tejże korporacji. Zbiory te przechowywane są obecnie w dwóch instytucjach: Archiwum Archidiecezjalnym Warszawskim oraz Bibliotece Litewskiej Akademii Nauk im. Wróblewskich w Wilnie. Stanowią jedyny tak dobrze zachowany obraz działalności polskiej korporacji akademickiej z okresu zaborów.
