Interactions between phenolics and dietary fibers, such as β-glucan, are important for the bioactivities of phenolics. However, interactions between aronia phenolics and β-glucan in the digestion process, both promoted for their health benefits, have not been studied. The aim was to study the interactions between aronia phenolics and β-glucan in an in vitro simulated digestion and in the adsorption process. After extracting aronia phenolics with chemically- and enzymatically-assisted extraction, and characterizing the phenolics, the aronia extract was subjected to simulated oral, gastric, and intestinal digestion without or with β-glucan. Flavonol release increased throughout oral, gastric, and intestinal digestion, while the recovery of phenolic acids and anthocyanins after an increase in the gastric phase, decreased in the intestinal phase. β-Glucan entrapped phenolics, lowering the quantities of recovered phenolics. It also adsorbed aronia phenolics at pH 1.5, 3.0, and 7.0. In comparison to 15 and 30 mg/L concentrations of β-glucan, a solution with the lower concentration (15 mg/L) allowed for the entrapment of the higher quantity of phenolics and had high adsorption capacity. Entrapment of aronia phenolics by β-glucan is important for the bioaccessibility and concentration of phenolics that reach the lower parts of the digestive tract which depends on β-glucan concentration.

Andrzej Wajda’a Sweet Rush (Tatarak) and Petr Zelenka’s The Karamazovs (Karamazovi) are film adaptations of literature. Both directors represent very innovative approach to the literary material. Wajda wanted to depict the theme of death and passing in original way and combined various literary sources: Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s short story Sweet Rush, a novelette by Sándor Márai, and Last Notes by Polish actress, Krystyna Janda. Her text is a form of reflection on the death of her husband who was a recognized cinematographer. Wajda also incorporated into the picture scenes revealing the film’s making off. Petr Zelenka’s screen adaptation of the famous novel by Fiodor Dostoievsky is based on the film record of the Prague theater presentation (also based on The Karamazovs) made in the industrial space of the Sendzimir Ironworks inPoland. The recorded spectacle became the opportunity for the director to present his artistic statement on the history and culture of the Middle andEast Europe and the artist’s status nowadays.

Upon the basis of the Taybet Zaman Hotel in the Kingdom of Jordan the article shows how it is possible to create an exceptional tourist site and salvage a historical monument important for local culture while respecting its substance. The hotel was established in the old centre of a Bedouin village leased from the inhabitants. Its adaptation for a new function was conducted by taking into consideration all the principles of conservation - maximum respect for the original matter, a distinction between the old and the new, the avoidance of glaring contrasts, and the preservation - albeit symbolic, in view of the introduced alterations - of the original residential-trade functions. Hotel Taybet Zaman is the pride and joy not only of its owners but also of the local community - it even contains a royal apartment used by the monarch and his family. The authors managed to create an exceptional site, different from the network hotels built at present. Taybet Zaman - its Arabian name means: 'the village of Taybet, just as centuries ago' - is already the second undertaking of the owners in which they used historical monuments as a base for creating tourist amenities. Skilful revitalisation carried out in accordance with the art of conservation and with consideration for the historical monument guaranteed success, also financial. The example of Taybet Zaman emphasises the importance of the adroit use of the assets of historical monuments in their adaptation to new functions. It also demonstrates how by cultivating local heritage and identity it possible to play a prominent cultural role by enabling monuments to cease being an unwanted and costly burden and to obtain profits from their original character.

There have been a number of changes in organizations in the context of anti-epidemic measures, so the authors aim to examine the level of engagement of civil servants before the pandemic and now and to examine the correlation between engagement and burnout syndrome. Based on a review and analysis of the available Czech and foreign literature, a questionnaire survey was prepared, and a survey was conducted on a sample of 984 respondents (civil servants) in the Czech Republic. The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and a questionnaire assessing burnout syndrome were used. The data were processed using statistical methods. In addition, parametric paired t-test and one-way ANOVA were used. This study provides insight into the current state of the issue and possible changes caused by the covid-19 pandemic. For the observed sample of respondents, it was found that burnout syndrome had no impact on the engagement of civil servants; age had no impact on the burnout syndrome of civil servants, and the level of engagement of civil servants was higher in 2022 than before the pandemic. The novelty of the study is the focus on the measurements mentioned above, as similar research has not been conducted in the Czech Republic yet. The findings from this research may be useful for practitioners and the management of public institutions if a similar situation arises in the future.
W organizacjach nastąpiło wiele zmian w kontekście przeciwdziałania epidemii, dlatego autorzy postawili sobie za cel zbadanie poziomu zaangażowania urzędników służby cywilnej przed pandemią i obecnie oraz zbadanie korelacji między zaangażowaniem a syndromem wypalenia zawodowego. Na podstawie przeglądu i analizy dostępnej literatury czeskiej i zagranicznej przygotowano ankietę kwestionariuszową i przeprowadzono badanie wśród 984 respondentów (urzędników służby cywilnej) w Czechach. Wykorzystano Utrechcką Skalę Zaangażowania w Pracę oraz kwestionariusz oceniający syndrom wypalenia zawodowego. Dane zostały przetworzone przy użyciu metod statystycznych. Ponadto zastosowano parametryczny sparowany t-test i jednokierunkową ANOVA. Niniejsze badanie zapewnia wgląd w aktualny stan zagadnienia i możliwe zmiany spowodowane pandemią COVID-19. W przypadku obserwowanej grupy respondentów stwierdzono, że syndrom wypalenia zawodowego nie miał wpływu na zaangażowanie urzędników służby cywilnej; wiek nie miał wpływu na syndrom wypalenia zawodowego urzędników służby cywilnej, a poziom zaangażowania urzędników służby cywilnej był wyższy w 2022 r. niż przed pandemią. Nowatorstwo badania polega na skupieniu się na wyżej wymienionych pomiarach, ponieważ podobne badania nie zostały jeszcze przeprowadzone w Czechach. Wyniki tego badania mogą być przydatne dla praktyków i kierownictwa instytucji publicznych, jeśli podobna sytuacja wystąpi w przyszłości.

In the research on the Bar Kokhba revolt (132-136 CE); one of the central subjects that were given prominent attention was the territorial extent of the second revolt. During all the years of research on this geographical question, two schools of thought were formed. One of them is that of the maximalists, who claim that the revolt spread through the entire Provincia Judaea and even beyond it into neighboring provinces such as Provincia Arabia in the south and Provincia Syria in the north. The second one is that of the minimalists, who restrict the revolt to the area of the Judaean hills and their immediate environs. The role of the Galilee region in the second revolt was discussed in great depth and centered on the question of whether the Galilee had taken part in the revolt. Since 1999, Professor Werner Eck of the University of Cologne focused on the power and range of this revolt from the Roman perspective. His general conclusion was that the second revolt was a central event in the history of the Roman Empire. Large military units participated in the event, which spread all over the province and even beyond. The rebels caused the Romans enormous casualties. They were forced to subdue the revolt savagely, causing the rebels massive losses. The revolt had a strong influence on the Roman Empire, and caused heavy damage to the Roman army that had immediate effects as well as long-term implications. His conclusions were based on a study of a variety of subjects including the archaeological discoveries from Tel Shalem, situated in the Beth Shean Valley, two kilometers south of Kibbutz Tirat Zvi and about 12 kilometers south of Scythopolis. The finds consisted of parts of a bronze statue and a head that was identified as that of the Roman emperor Hadrian, and a monumental inscription which had been inscribed in three lines on an arch that was 11 meters wide. According to W. Eck, these findings testify to the participation of the north, the Jordan Valley and the Galilee in the Second Revolt; and that the “Galilee felt the revolt more than has hitherto been conceded. A decisive battle may have been won here, not far from Caparcotna, the camp of the Second Legion in Judaea” (Eck 1999). This paper will re-examine the evidence from Tel Shalem, and other places in Galilee, mainly the findings from Kh. El-hamam in eastern Galilee, findings that were used to include the Galilee Region in the geographical expansion of the revolt. We will study anew the historical background for the erection of the Tel Shalem inscription, the various epigraphic interpretations, and other evidence and its implications for the study of the revolt. Our study will question some of the broadening assumptions of the revolt, and will leave out Galilee in general, and Tel Shalem in particular, from the geographical scope of the Bar Kokhba Revolt.

Numerous studies have explored what people do in their free time, but only a few of them have tried to explain why. In Study 1 we therefore aimed to obtain a detailed picture of the ways in which students spend their free time, but also we wanted to investigate their motivation for engaging in a specific activity that they consider to be their favourite. We found that the highest percentage of 585 students, who participated in Study 1, spend most of their free time on social interactions, reading and leisure with family. However, although they did not spend much time on physical activities, participants reported them as their favourite ones. An analysis of variance showed no differences in hedonic motives for free time activities, while eudaimonic motives did differ. In Study 2, we investigated intrinsic motivation for physical exercise on a new sample of 202 students, and found that recreational athletes have significantly higher intrinsic motivation compared to physically less active participants.

According to a number of studies and experts, one of the most important aspects of current human resources management in the world and in the Czech and Polish Republic is wellbeing. Research in the field of wellbeing confirms that there is a positive mutual relationship between employees' wellbeing and organization business results. Employees with high level of wellbeing are more engaged, higher perform and then more contribute to the better organization performance through their higher work productivity and efficiency and lower turnover. How people are treated at work by organizations and their managers, especially line managers, strongly affect the level of their wellbeing. The aim of this study is to assess the wellbeing of employees of the selected cross-border organizations in the Czech and Polish Republic and propose measures for increasing the level of the worst rated area of employees' wellbeing. Two formulated research questions were answered on the basis of the evaluation of an online questionnaire survey. This study reveals the area of health as the worst evaluated area of wellbeing and proposes several measures to increase the level of this area, which can be considered as its main outputs. The implementation of these measures focused on the health area should bring higher level of employees' engagement and performance and better organizations' results of operation.
Według wielu badań i ekspertów jednym z najważniejszych aspektów obecnego zarządzania zasobami ludzkimi na świecie oraz w Czechach i w Polsce jest dobrostan. Badania z zakresu wellbeing potwierdzają, że istnieje pozytywny wzajemny związek między dobrostanem pracowników a wynikami biznesowymi organizacji. Pracownicy o wysokim poziomie dobrostanu są bardziej zaangażowani, osiągają lepsze wyniki, a następnie w większym stopniu przyczyniają się do lepszych wyników organizacji poprzez wyższą produktywność i efektywność pracy oraz niższe obroty. To, jak ludzie są traktowani w pracy przez organizacje i ich menedżerów, zwłaszcza przełożonych, silnie wpływa na poziom ich samopoczucia. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest ocena dobrostanu pracowników wybranych organizacji transgranicznych w Czechach i RP oraz zaproponowanie działań na rzecz podniesienia poziomu najgorzej ocenianego obszaru dobrostanu pracowników. Na dwa sformułowane pytania badawcze udzielono odpowiedzi na podstawie oceny ankiety internetowej. Niniejsze badanie ujawnia obszar zdrowia jako najgorzej oceniany obszar dobrostanu i proponuje kilka środków w celu zwiększenia poziomu tego obszaru, co można uznać za jego główne wyniki. Realizacja tych działań ukierunkowanych na obszar zdrowia powinna przynieść wyższy poziom zaangażowania i wydajności pracowników oraz lepsze wyniki działania organizacji.

This paper deals with the issue of the didactics of the Czech lands geography process and the position of geography as a scientific branch in its system. It describes new trends and styles in teaching geography in the Czech Republic. At the same time, it mentions some current teaching difficulties at Czech primary and secondary schools. The first stage of teaching developing theory, the period from 1948 to 1965, is tagged “applied period” (Hájek, 2003). The theory of teaching geography (nowadays called the didactics of geography) was at that time only a pedagogical discipline. It has been focused on searching and working out in detail the middle ground for the methods, the organization forms and materials specified for geography teaching. The period after the year 1990 is called “the period of the transformation of the didactics of geography”. The attention in teaching geography has been focused on new topics, for example the upbringing for the human rights and democracy, multiculturalism, international understanding and peace, informational or worldwide education, etc. The didactics of geography is already a border science, penetrating two systems –geography and pedagogy (Wahla, 1991). Primarily, the task of the scholars in the field of the didactics of geography was searching for an answer to the question: “What type of knowledge should the students be provided with and what are the reasons and methods for that transfer of knowledge?”. The explanation of the influence of the way geography was taught on the student´s development of imagination, thinking and positive relation to their environment was, to some extent, already provided. Similarly, this influence was also observed in the attention to the quality of the teacher, teaching methods and organization of the forms of teaching, teaching environment, and some specific geography tools (maps, books of maps, etc.). The contemporary concept of the didactics of geography comes from the International Geography Union, which declares not only the value of educational geography importance for individual education, but primarily its application in international and environmental nation education context. The determination of basic questions directed at students is also inconsistent. It is crucial that students are able to react to questions like: “Where is it? What is it like? Why is it there? How did it come into existence? What is the influence of it? How should it be adapted to be beneficial for the people and nature at the same time?”. Contemporary geography education should take aim at students´ knowledge and their skills and phrasing progress, creating the basic attitudes and life values, and also the sense of responsibility. The interdisciplinary and broad multidisciplinary of the thematic range guarantees a strong integrating role of geography education in schools. It is essential for the progress and the formation of all cross-sectional topics (Matoušková, 2005). There is more interests in the way the science subjects, including geography, are taught. It is realized primarily through familiarization of the content – relating to students´ daily life and solving actual questions and topics. In geography teaching the emphasis is put both on practice, fieldwork and working in geo-laboratories, and on class-work. Therefore, the basic principles of researchable orientating education as well as the progress of geographical informational systems and their application in geography teaching at primary and secondary schools are fulfilled. Geography as a subject at Czech schools is considered by students to be of mediocre or even low prestige. There are many reasons for that, but the main one is the unqualified and poorly qualified geography teachers. Geography is seen as a subject concerned with toponymic terms. The prestige of geography can be improved by ensuring that teachers are properly qualified and are specialists in their field. Those teachers should be interested in the subject and teach not only the necessary quota (“general knowledge”), but also a notion of “the intertwined aspects of the world”. A geography teacher should help the students understand the global connections, be able to get students interested in traveling and learning about different cultures and occurring differences, as well as teach the students how to be tolerant of something that is foreign to them (Karas, Kuhnlová, 2011). Additional training for teachers is crucial for improving the quality of geography teaching and it should become an integral part of their pedagogical experience.

Opis:
The paper argues that rhetoric since its very beginning features inherent visual capacities. Therefore, it lends itself perfectly to be interpreted also in terms of virtual communication. The complementary perspectives of virtual as rhetorical and rhetoric as virtual are investigated in order to set a frame for (re)conceptualizing virtual and rhetorical.
Artykuł dowodzi, że retoryka od samego swojego początku wykazywała inherentne własności wizualne. Z tego względu znakomicie nadaje się do interpretacji także w kategoriach komunikacji wirtualnej. W artykule omówione są dwie komplementarne perspektywy - to, co wirtualne, jako retoryczne i to, co retoryczne, jako wirtualne – aby zaproponować model teoretyczny, pozwalający na (re)konceptualizację wirtualności i retoryczności.
