Opis:
The Megacricetodon material from Aliveri (Isle of Evia, Greece) was previously assigned to Megacricetodon primitivus, implying palaeobiogeographical relationship between south-eastern and south-western Europe. The material from Aliveri is here assigned to the new species Megacricetodon hellenicus sp. nov. This form has significant morphological differences compared to other Early Miocene species from Europe. This new evolutionary hypothesis of this genus has implications on the Early Miocene paleobiogeography of Europe. This work presents a new interpretation on the earliest European representative of the genus Megacricetodon from Aliveri localities. Analyses of the Megacricetodon material from MN 4 and MN 5 localities enable to propose a new palaeobiogeographical framework in which there are three main migration events of the genus Megacricetodon into Europe, each corresponding to different lineages that evolved independently. The new Greek taxon is considered the first migration wave from Anatolia, representing an endemic lineage different from any other European Megacricetodon.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of anisotropy of cortical bone tissue on measurement of properties such as direction-dependent moduli and hardness. Methods: An advanced three-dimensional finite element model of microindentation was developed. Different modelling schemes were considered to account for anisotropy of elastic or/and plastic regimes. The elastic anisotropic behaviour was modelled employing an elasticity tensor, and Hill’s criteria were used to represent the direction-dependent post-yield behaviour. The Oliver–Pharr method was used in the data analysis. Results: A decrease in the value of the transverse elasticity modulus resulted in the increased material’s indentation modulus measured in the longitudinal direction and a decreased one in the transverse direction, while they were insensitive to the anisotropy in post-elastic regime. On the other hand, an increase in plastic anisotropy led to a decrease in measured hardness for both directions, but by a larger amount in the transverse one. The size effect phenomenon was found to be also sensitive to anisotropy. Conclusions: The undertaken analysis suggests that the Oliver–Pharr method is a useful tool for first-order approximations in the analysis of mechanical properties of anisotropic materials similar to cortical bone, but not necessarily for the materials with low hardening reserves in the plastic regime.

Opis:
Hovey introduced A-cordial labelings in [4] as a simultaneous generalization of cordial and harmonious labelings. If A is an abelian group, then a labeling f: V(G) → A of the vertices of some graph G induces an edge-labeling on G; the edge uv receives the label f(u) + f(v). A graph G is A-cordial if there is a vertex-labeling such that (1) the vertex label classes differ in size by at most one and (2) the induced edge label classes differ in size by at most one.
Research on A-cordiality has focused on the case where A is cyclic. In this paper, we investigate V₄-cordiality of many families of graphs, namely complete bipartite graphs, paths, cycles, ladders, prisms, and hypercubes. We find that all complete bipartite graphs are V₄-cordial except K_{m,n} where m,n ≡ 2(mod 4). All paths are V₄-cordial except P₄ and P₅. All cycles are V₄-cordial except C₄, C₅, and Cₖ, where k ≡ 2(mod 4). All ladders P₂ ☐ Pₖ are V₄-cordial except C₄. All prisms are V₄-cordial except P₂ ☐ Cₖ, where k ≡ 2(mod 4). All hypercubes are V₄-cordial, except C₄.
Finally, we introduce a generalization of A-cordiality involving digraphs and quasigroups, and we show that there are infinitely many Q-cordial digraphs for every quasigroup Q.

Underground economy
Opis:
Aim/purpose – The underground economy is a major challenge across the world affecting both developed and developing economies. South Africa is no exception to this phenomenon and has lost billions of rands due to the underground economy. The aim of this study is to estimate the size of the underground economy in South Africa. Design/methodology/approach – The study used quarterly time series data from 2000 to 2020 and employed the Currency Demand Approach (CDA) for modeling the underground economy. Findings – The model results revealed that the underground economy is positively influenced by unemployment rate, tax burden, and social benefits granted by the government, however it is negatively influenced by Nominal Gross Domestic Product (NGDP), deposit interest rate, and self-employment rate. Furthermore, the study showed that there was a distinct growth of the underground economy, from 23.9% of GDP in 2003 to 34.5% of GDP in 2019. On average, the underground economy represented 28.8% of GDP for the period 2003 to 2020. Research implications/limitations – This model can be used in conjunction with other models to observe the trend in the South African underground economic activities. The South African government should take note of the spiraling growth of this economy and come up with measures to curb this growth to protect the formal economy. Originality/value/contribution – This study makes a significant contribution to the body of knowledge in this research area and provides much needed insights into the magnitude of the underground economy and the extent of tax evasion in South Africa.

Opis:
This article is a study of the dynamics of interaction between historiography and “historiophoty” i.e. between a historical source – Plutarch’s Life of Alexander – and two epic films: R. Rossen’s Alexander Th e Great (1956) and O. Stone’s Alexander (2004). The authors of this study were interested in the cinematographic treatment of the legends, and so-called “historical truths” surrounding the birth, childhood, and early youth (boyhood or teenage years) of Alexander.
