Opis:
The Vistula is the Poland’s largest River. It flows from the south to the north and has its mouth in the Baltic Sea. Hydrographically the Vistula is divided into three sections: the Upper Vistula from the source to San tributary; the Middle Vistula up to the Narew tributary; and the Lower Vistula till the outlet to the sea. The Lower Vistula is 391 km in length. Along it there are several very important urban centers: Gdańsk with its harbor and container terminal, Elbląg with its harbor situated on the Vistula Lagoon, Tczew, Grudziądz, Włocławek, Płock and Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The Lower Vistula establishes part of the International Waterway E70 and E40 as it has important economic value and development potential. The Lower Vistula has important hydroenergy potential, is the source of water supply for people, industry and agriculture as well as being a very important ecological corridor. The whole length of the Lower Vistula, except for Włocławek Reservoir is included in the NATURA 2000 Program. The Włocławek hydraulic project lies along this section. It was commissioned in 1970 and has been the source of significant debate discussion between ecologists and water resources specialists. The Lower Vistula also benefits from scenic countryside and is popular for tourism and recreation. Along the Lower Vistula, a very important problem still exists in the form of flood hazard, mainly caused by ice phenomena and is also endangered by droughts. The paper begins with a short discussion about sustainable development. It then presents the current state of the management of the Lower Vistula and its catchment, its economic potential and plans for development. Possibilities regarding the construction of future hydraulic projects are also discussed, including the benefits for energy production, navigation, water supply, tourism and recreation.

Three unusual dinosaur ichnites are reported from the Hettangian strata of the Holy Cross Mountains, Central Poland. The tracks are compared with similar forms from the Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic of North America. The Polish footprints resemble Stenonyx Hitchcock (1865), a very small print presumably left by a diminutive or a baby theropod, and Atreipus Olsen and Baird (1986), a footprint suspected to be of ornithischian origin, basically known from Late Triassic deposits.

Opis:
Regional analysis of the Mesozoic and Paleozoic geothermal aquifers in the Polish Lowlands indicates that hot waters accumulated in Lower Cretaceous and Lower Jurassic deposits should be given priority in practical utilization. Crucial for this purpose are: high level of the geological recognition of the aquifers, occurrence of thick reservoir rocks, high water discharge, relatively high temperatures, particularly in the Lower Jurassic aquifer, and relatively low costs of drilling the production and injection wells. The Lower Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous water-bearing layers are represented by sandstone complexes with very good reservoir properties. This is favourable for high water discharge, which has beneficial influence on economical justification of construction of geothermal plants. The above findings have been confirmed by the so-far geothermal investments, among others the geothermal plants in Pyrzyce and Stargard Szczeciński, which utilize geothermal waters from the Lower Jurassic aquifer. Other plants, located in Uniejów and Mszczonów, central Poland, utilize waters from the Lower Cretaceous aquifer.

Aside a total knee endoprosthesis Medin Modulár (size 76, right knee) provided by Medin Orthopedics, a.s., Czech Republic, two long bones, femur and tibia were used. As for a load, more than 30 most important muscles of the lower limb and 8 knee ligaments were disigned. Compared with our former results, this model gives reduced stress and contact pressures values which were given by more realistic ankle and hip joint definition. Their distributions correspond our former findings.

The epigraphic evidence from four Lower Moesian legionary bases provides information about military-civilian society living along the Lower Danubian frontier zone. The inscriptions on stone originating from these four sites informs not only about the names, age or status of the people living in the border zone, but may be helpful in recreating the emergence of Roman provincial society in the military garrisons. The epigraphic evidence collected from Oescus, Novae, Durostorum, and Troesmis includes only the inscriptions related to the people who were not active soldiers and officers serving in the legions. The aim of the paper is to find out whether the epigraphic evidence may bring any additional information concerning the civilian and military families, ethnic and social composition of the inhabitants living near legionary bases, conditions of life, and the nature of the settlement.

In the Lower Cretaceous (Urgonian) limestones of the Provence region (South France) shallow-water scleractinian corals are very common. This paper concentrates on corals from the suborder Microsolenina. They represent 34 taxa (including 5 new species) belonging to 14 genera from two families: Microsolenidae and Latomeandridae. This coral assemblage is representative for the late Early Cretaceous Tethyan realm but also shows some endemism. Its characteristic feature is the abundance of hydnophoroid specimens from the genus Hydnophoromeandraraea Morycowa. The Barremian–Early Aptian age of the studied corals is based on forami- nifera (mainly orbitolinids), dasycladale algae and rudists, and agrees with that of the whole studied coral fauna.

Objectives: Ambient ozone (O₃) exposure is associated with a variety of health conditions. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of increased daily concentrations of ozone on emergency department (ED) visits due to lower respiratory diseases (LRD), such as acute or chronic bronchitis, in Edmonton, Canada. Materials and Methods: Data concerning 10 years (1992-2002) were obtained from 5 Edmonton hospital Emergency Departments. Odds ratios (ORs) for ED visits associated with the increased ozone levels were calculated employing a case-crossover technique with a time-stratified strategy to define controls. In the constructed conditional logistic regression models, adjustments were made for daily number of influenza ED visits and weather variables using natural splines. ORs and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were reported in relation to an increase in the interquartile range (IQR = 17.9 ppb) of the ground-level ozone. Results: Overall, 48 252 ED visits due to LRD were identified, of which 53% were made by males. The presentations peaked in December (12%) and February (11.7%) and were the lowest in August (5.6%). Positive and statistically significant results were obtained for acute bronchitis: for same day (OR = 1.09, 95% CI: 1.05-1.13, lag 0) and for lag 2, lag 3-7 and 9 days; for chronic bronchitis: for lag 6, 7, and lag 9 days (OR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.05-1.18, lag 9). For all ED visits for LRD, lag 0, lag 1, and lag 3-9 days showed positive and statistically significant associations (OR = 1.06, 95% CI: 1.03-1.09, lag 0). Conclusions: These findings support the hypothesis concerning positive associations between ozone and the ED visits due to LRD.

During the Early Miocene (Early Burdigalian/Eggenburgian) marine transgression at the southeastern margin of the Bohemian Massif, gradual flooding occurred along a rocky coast on granitic bedrock of the Thaya Batholith under high-energy, wave-dominated, microtidal and mixed fair-weather and storm conditions. Deposits of the Burgschleinitz Formation overlie a basal unconformity above a subaerial weathered basement surface (transgressive erosional surface) and are interpreted as a transgressive systems tract. The deposits can be divided into four facies associations/depositional environments, i.e., upper-shoreface, foreshore, gravelly beach and backshore/lagoon. Two stages of transgression and successive overtopping of the basement, with different coastal physiographies, were documented. During the initial stage of transgression a barrier island system developed with relatively fine-grained deposits, reflecting the flooding of the distant parts of the Thaya Batholith with a relative flat basement morphology. The subsequent continuation of the transgression led to the flooding of the more proximal parts of the Thaya Batholith with a steeper relief and formation of a rocky shoreline with deposition of gravelly sedi- ments along palaeo-sea cliffs or wave-cut platforms. While gravel clasts of the deposits investigated originate directly from the underlying granites of the Thaya Batholith, provenance studies show that metamorphic rocks of the Moravian Superunit in the hinterland were the main source of sands. This distant source material was probably delivered mainly by small creeks and alluvial fans to the nearshore. Significant differences in heavy mineral composition of the same formation in the wider vi cinity indicate primarily local sources and rapid deposition with subordinate longshore transport, which may reflect a complex coastal palaeogeography. The Lower Miocene deposits of the Burgschleinitz Formation investigated are a rare example of ancient rocky shore deposits, which generally have low preservation potential in the geological record.

Introduction. The number of cyclists increases each year. Some people treat cycling as a passion and practice it at every possible occasion, while for others it is a mean of transport or a form of relaxation at the weekend. However, very few people realize that cycling can also have a negative impact on their health. Objective. To assess the prevalence of lower extremity and spine pain in cyclists, and evaluate the influence of various factors causing it. Materials and method. The study was performed on 167 subjects during amateur cycling competitions in the Greater Poland and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Provinces. A specially prepared questionnaire was used in the study. The questions related to the pain caused by cycling, the character and the localization of the pain, and the presence of warm-up and stretching. Results. Knee pain was reported in 40% of the study subjects (mostly anterior pain – 26%). Spine pain was reported in 41% of the studied athletes, where 26% was related with the lumbar spine. Variables, such as age, weight, age, BMI, training experience and number of hours devoted to training per week had no influence on the incidence and the localization of leg pain, but it had influence in the case of spine pain. Stretching after cycling was the factor which significantly distinguished the studied groups with regard to the incidence of knee pain. Conclusions. The most common type of leg pain was knee pain (anterior knee pain) whereas spine pain was most commonly reported in the lumbar spine. Statistical analysis showed that spine pain is more often reported by people who are older, have higher weight, and people who spend more time training per week. Warm-up and stretching after cycling are recommended to cyclists who experience pain.

The state-owned enterprise under the name of Lower Silesian Factory of Nicotine Preparations (Dolnośląska Wytwórnia Preparatów Nikotynowych; DWPN) with its registered office first in Szalejów Dolny and then in Góra Śląska existed in the years 1952–1958. It produced, above all, nicotine sulphate used by farmers for plant protection (primarily to combat extremely widespread aphids). The plant was managed by the Polish tobacco industry, which supplied the raw material in the form of tobacco waste and waste from tobacco plants. The article first presents the post-war demand of Polish agriculture for nicotine preparations and the plans of the tobacco industry to concentrate their production in one place. Initially, nicotine preparations were manufactured in plants in Szalejów Dolny, Góra Śląska and Kraków-Czyżyny. Finally, under the auspices of the tobacco industry, the DWPN company was established, which produced nicotine preparations for the entire Polish agriculture. DWPN produced approximately 40 tons of nicotine sulphate annually. The plant employed an average of 60–70 employees. Economic reasons and a reduction in the demand for nicotine sulphate resulting from the appearance of cheaper and equally effective insecticides on the market made it necessary to liquidate the plant. The company’s facilities were taken over by the Provincial Union of Enterprises of State Industry in Wrocław.

Partially preserved temnospondyl mandibles from the Late Permian–Early Triassic Buena Vista Formation of Uruguay are referred to the basal stereospondyl taxon Mastodonsauridae. These represent the earliest known members of this group for South America. In most cases, this assignment was based on the characteristic morphology of the postglenoid (= postarticular) area of the lower jaw together with the presence of a hamate process. Comparisons with basal mastodonsaurids indicate that the Uruguayan specimens are phenetically similar to Gondwanan and Laurasian Early Triassic taxa, such as Watsonisuchus, Wetlugasarus, and Parotosuchus. Nevertherless, they display some characters which have not previously been described in Mesozoic temnospondyls. The Permo−Triassic Uruguayan mastodonsaurids support a Gondwanan origin for the group, an event which probably occurred sometime during the latest Permian.

Opis:
The problem of options pricing is one of the most critical issues and fundamental building blocks in mathematical finance. The research includes deployment of lower precision type in two options pricing algorithms: Black-Scholes and Monte Carlo simulation. We make an assumption that the shorter the number used for calculations is (in bits), the more operations we are able to perform in the same time. The results are examined by a comparison to the outputs of single and double precision types. The major goal of the study is to indicate whether the lower precision types can be used in financial mathematics. The findings indicate that Black-Scholes provided more precise outputs than the basic implementation of Monte Carlo simulation. Modification of the Monte Carlo algorithm is also proposed. The research shows the limitations and opportunities of the lower precision type usage. In order to benefit from the application in terms of the time of calculation improved algorithms can be implemented on GPU or FPGA. We conclude that under particular restrictions the lower precision calculation can be used in mathematical finance.

The educational and cultural dimension is a multivariate category, characterized by many attributes (e.g. number of students and academic teachers, educational institutions, library readers, library borrowers and visitors to the museums, etc.). This means the possibility of perceiving regions as objects of multidimensional statistical analysis, and ordering them according to a certain criterion. The paper presents the similarities and differences between selected cities of the Lower Silesia region with a population of over 30,000 inhabitants in the educational and cultural scope. For this purpose, a set of diagnostic variables (stimulants and destimulants) was defined. This allowed specifying the most and least differences between the surveyed objects and consequently the order of the cities from the best city to the worst one. Finally, this allowed the creation of the educational and cultural ranking of Lower Silesian cities

Most of them, up to 23% of organic farms were located in the county Kłodzko and 16% in the district of Wroclaw. The diversity of organic farms in various districts of Lower Silesia was high and ranged from 1 (Strzelin district) to 235 ( Kłodzko district). Lot of factors had an influence on such a large diversity of organic farms deployment and the most important included the quality of agricultural production surface. A characteristic feature of organic farms of Lower Silesia is that about 80% of the main type of organic production are meadows and pastures (package 58A) and fodder crops for animal feed (pack 50A to 57A). Cereal Organic-grown consisted of wheat and spelled (from 3% to 30% of producers) quite a lot consisted of more than 20% rye, oats, from 7.5% to 28.6% and buckwheat. Production of vegetables and fruits is listed only in a few percent of the farms. Due to the possibility of high subsidies for orchards planted with walnut, this package (A 67) has become the direction of production of several agricultural producers. Organic farms of Lower Silesia are mainly focused on plant production. Only in about 20% of organic farms production is carried out by organic livestock, which provides cow's milk, goat cheese, veal, beef and eggs. In tourist areas the equines were bred in many organic farms for recreational purposes.

Critical moments during gymnastic exercises are those related to landing and suppressing overloads, transmitted through lower limbs. A swimmer’s lower limbs provide a good body position in the water and maintain the balance. Both in sports authors postulate reaching bilateral, steady development of the athlete’s body. The main aim was identification and a comparative analysis of the hip, knee and ankle joints flexors and extensors strength, of highly qualified gymnasts and swimmers. Ten healthy subjects participated in the investigation. Five gymnasts (22.2 ±7.3 y.o., 169.4 ±3.91 cm, 64.4 ±3.78 kg) and five swimmers (20.5 ±1.3 y.o., 186.2 ±1.64 cm, 78.4 ±2.61 kg) were highly qualified Polish athletes. Strength measurements were made on Biodex S4 isokinetic dynamometer. Subjects performed hip extension/flexion in lying position, knee extension/flexion and ankle plantar/dorsi flexion. Strength parameters of the lower limbs differentiate gymnasts and swimmers. Lower limb’s strength parameters can be used during training, control, selection or prevention. To achieve a high sport level, swimmers must demonstrate higher strength parameters of lower limbs than gymnasts. The value of work in the maximum repetition (MRW) should be thoroughly analyzed. Highly qualified gymnasts and swimmers should take into account the harmonious, bilateral strength development of the lower limbs.

Garden, palace or palace-garden sets which bordered directly with palace grange sets were most of all the place for a walk and rest of the inhabitants of mansions. In inventoried objects we can distinguish two basic spatial compositions. The first characterizes by geometry, regularity of sets and often axis. The second one characterizes by freedom which refers to natural landscapes. Former gardens and parks which have accompanied palace-grange sets since the beginning of their existence, similarly to granges, influenced and shaped the cultural landscape of the place where they were created. In every historical period, various styles in composition existed both in garden and palace ones. They often created the only high greenery point in the neighborhood. And sometimes they were directly connected to the areas of woods lying near by. It is necessary to remember that some landowners apart from gardens and parks were planting trees at road sides. Present old alleys, and sometimes hedges were created in such a way. In the modern rural village set both former palace-garden sets as well as the above mentioned alleys are the only forms or organized greenery. It is a pity that they appear to have remained without care and attention. The only thing we can do is hope that together with the rise of social conscience and rationalization of legal regulations, their situation will decisively improve.

As a result of the increase in the world population and the decrease in agricultural land, the need for food increases every day. Nowadays, breeding studies are carried out to increase the yield of plants to get more products from the same area. Furthermore, controlled production areas are created by optimizing climatic conditions and the continuity of production is ensured. It is called greenhouse, where production can be carried out throughout the year and the indoor temperature and humidity conditions can be controlled. Nowadays, greenhouses are now functioning as an industrial enterprise. However, greenhouses need to comply with the principles of quality production, efficient income growth and physical environmental protection. Almost all of the plant production in greenhouses in Turkey is done in the Mediterranean region, but in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, it is done in a very limited greenhouse area. The increase of protected agricultural areas in the Mediterranean region and the fact that the production volume cannot reach a certain limit makes it necessary to investigate alternative protected production areas. In this study, climate conditions of Antalya province and climate data of four provinces of the Lower Euphrates basin are compared with each other and statistically compared. As a result of, differences have been found between Antalya province and the provinces in the Lower Euphrates basin in terms of minimum, maximum, and average temperatures. However, there is no difference between the provinces in the basin except for Gaziantep in terms of climatic conditions. Therefore, it has been determined that Gaziantep province is not suitable for greenhouse cultivation. However, it has been concluded that if greenhouse cultivation is performed in this province, it is appropriate to perform cultivation in the areas where alternative energy sources can be used. It has been concluded that in the case that heating costs are reduced using alternative energy sources, Şanlıurfa and Kilis provinces are climatologically suitable for greenhouse cultivation and Adıyaman province is partially suitable for it.

The Lower Jurassic Ciechocinek Formation from the Czestochowa-Wielun region of SW Poland comprises greenish-grey muds and silts as well as poorly consolidated mudstones and siltstones with lenticular intercalations of fine-grained sands, sandstones and siderites. Analysis of a mineral composition indicates that the detrital material was derived mainly from the weathering of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks of the eastern Sudetes with their foreland and of the Upper Silesia area, and that this material underwent repeated redeposition. The Fe-rich chlorites which give the green colour to the mudstones of the Ciechocinek Formation are most probably early diagenetic minerals, genetically linked with the deposition in a brackish sedimentary basin.

The basaltic rocks of Sośnica Hill near Targowica (Fore-Sudetic Block) belong to the Cenozoic Central European Volcanic Province. The volcanic succession at Sośnica is over 40 m thick and comprises pyroclastic fall deposits (mainly tuff breccias), subvolcanic intrusions (plug, dykes and other intrusive sheets) and aa-type lavas. Field relationships and structural data enable a detailed reconstruction of the vent location, morphology and eruptive history of the original volcano. Initial Hawaiian to Strombolian-type explosive eruptions produced a pyroclastic cone. Subsequently subvolcanic intrusions and lavas were emplaced. The lavas were fed from the central vent of the volcano, breached the cone and flowed southwards. Later eruptions resumed at a new vent on the western slopes of themain cone. The final volcanic edifice-a breached Strombolian scoria cone with a lava flow and a parasitic cone-was 500-1000 m in diameter at the base and 90-180mhigh. The preserved SWsector of this volcano, where the pyroclastic deposits were protected from erosion by the surrounding plugs and lavas, corresponds to ca. 1/2 of the height and 1/8 of the volume of the original volcano. Compared with many other remnants of Cenozoic volcanic centres in Lower Silesia, this volcano is exceptionally well preserved and exposed.

Economic transformations were the foundation of the systemic revolution carried out in the first decade after the Second World War, therefore they were the subject of interest for the Ministry of Public Security. That is why financial crimes were treated just like political crimes, which was also justified by legal provisions, as no specific definition of this type of crime existed. This allowed the authorities (secret police, prosecutor’s office, courts, media) to interpret the events according to their will and current political needs, and, as a result, to administer various overt or covert repressions (death penalty, imprisonment, forced cooperation with the secret police).

Vertebrate remains, mostly fish teeth and scales, are described from the Lower Muschelkalk of Raciborowice Górne, North-Sudetic Basin, SW Poland. The assemblage occurs in dark grey organodetrital limestone of unit C. Vertebrate remains, represented mainly by vertebrate bones and coprolites, are also known from unit B. Five taxa of chondrichthyan teeth — Acrodus lateralis, Acrodus cf. lateralis, Acrodus sp., Palaeobates angustissimus, Palaeobates sp. and, for the first time from this region, two taxa of osteichthyan remains — teeth of Birgeria sp., scales from Gyrolepis sp. as well as scales from unclassified actinopterygians and enigmatic bones (fishes?) are described from the Lower Muschelkalk at Raciborowice Górne. Reptile teeth represent ing the Nothosauridae or Cymatosauridae have been found for the first time at this locality. They were discovered in the Bone Bed of unit C, that had previously only yielded fish teeth. The material collected has allowed reconstruction of the vertebrate as semblage of the Lower Muschelkalk of the North-Sudetic Basin. It has also helped to constrain reconstructions of the palaeoenvironment, sugesting that it represented a deepening lagoon. The assemblage has been correlated with age-equivalents from other regions of Europe, the faunas from the Holy Cross Mts. (Central Poland) being the closest analogy. The evidence indicates that, during the deposition of units Band C that, contain the vertebrate remains, connection with the Tethys Ocean was through the Silesian–Moravian and East Carpathian marine gateways.

The highest level of cinema attendance in Lower Silesia after World War II was recorded in 1957. It was higher than before the war and lower than during the war. In the years that followed it steadily declined, influenced by global processes, especially the popularity of television. This leads us to reflect on the continuity of historical and film processes, and to look at the period from the 1920s to the 1960s as the ‘classical’ period in the history of cinema, when it was the main branch of mass entertainment. The examples of three Lower Silesian cities of different size classes (Wroclaw, Jelenia Gora, Strzelin) show how before World War II the development from ‘the store cinema [or the kintopp] to the cinema palace’ proceeded. Attention is also drawn to the issue of the destruction of cinematic infrastructure and its post-war reconstruction. In 1958 the press commented that ‘if someone produced a map with the towns marked in which cinemas were located, the number would increase as one moved westwards’. This was due to Polish (post-war) and German (pre-war) cinema building. The discussion closes with a description of the Internet Historical Database of Cinemas in Lower Silesia, which collects data on cinemas that once operated or are now operating in the region.

Background. Physical activity is considered to be one of the most important determinants of human health. Many authors emphasize the benefits of physical activity for elderly people – its positive influence on the functioning of many organs and systems, development of greater mobility, slowdown of the involution processes, and counteracting the effects of civilization diseases. Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze the structure of physical activity in older adults from the Lower Silesian region. Material and method. The data was collected as part of the PolSenior national program. The subjects were selected randomly in three stages. The analysis was performed on the data from questionnaires filled out by 192 men and 164 women over the age of 65 years living in the Lower Silesian region. The answers were analyzed in categories such as: age (3 groups: 65-74 years, 75-84 years and over 85 years), gender, place of residence (communities up to 20 000 and over 20 000 inhabitants) and social-occupational status (blue-collar and white-collar workers). The survey results were shown in percentage form and concerned the different types of physical activity performed, the most frequent reasons for undertaking physical activity, sports and recreational physical activity during the respondents youth, between 30 and 60 years of age and at present, as well as the constraints and reasons that prevent an active lifestyle. Results. With age the percentage of people who spend their free time actively decreases. In each age group of elderly people men declared a greater need for physical activity than women. The subjects also differed with the urban factor and socialoccupational status. Moreover, the results showed that the larger community, the better the condition created for recreation of older adults and the people whose previous profession was not connected with physical work tried to be physically active in various forms more often than ex-manual laborers. It is probable that education significantly influences an active attitude towards one’s health and proper lifestyle. Conclusions. Physical activity of seniors as a one of the basic elements of lifestyle is clearly connected with the environment in which older people live.
Wprowadzenie. Wielu autorów podkreśla korzyści płynące z aktywności ruchowej osób starszych – pozytywny wpływ na pracę wielu narządów i układów, rozwinięcie większej mobilności, spowolnienie procesów inwolucyjnych i przeciwdziałanie chorobom cywilizacyjnym. Cel. Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza struktury aktywności ruchowej osób starszych z Dolnego Śląska. Materiał i metoda. Badania zostały wykonane w ramach ogólnopolskiego programu PolSenior. Dobór badanych miał charakter losowy, trzystopniowy. W pracy wykorzystano dane ankietowe 192 mężczyzn i 164 kobiet po 65 roku życia, mieszkańców Dolnego Śląska. Wyniki analizowano w kategoriach wieku (3 grupy: 65-74, 75-84, powyżej 85 lat), płci, wielkości osiedla (do 20 tys. i powyżej 20 tys. mieszkańców) i statusu społeczno-zawodowego badanych (pracownicy fizyczni i niepracujący fizycznie). Wyniki przedstawione zostały w postaci wartości odsetkowych i dotyczyły form podejmowanej aktywności ruchowej, najczęstszych przyczyn podejmowania aktywności ruchowej, aktywności sportowo-rekreacyjnej w młodości, między 30 a 60 rokiem życia i obecnie, oraz powodów i ograniczeń uniemożliwiających aktywny styl życia. Wyniki.

“Lower Lid Blepharoplasty-Entropion-Ectropion Oculoplastic Procedures Cadaveric Dissection Course” was performed in Bahcesehir University School of Medicine on February 19th, 2017 with the participation of 20 ophthalmologists. Lower eyelid anatomy, lower eyelid entropion-ectropion surgical techniques, subciliary and transconjunctival approach to lower eyelid blepharoplasty, prevention and management methods of surgical complications were shown on the fresh frozen cadaveric eyelids. All the participants were able to follow anatomic demonstrations and surgical techniques performed on the master table by experienced surgeons through live broadcasting. The stages of the lower eyelid cadaveric dissection and details of the anatomical structures were presented to the participants by the recording, reproducing, or broadcasting of moving visual images. Cadaveric workshops as a primary modality of simulation based surgical skills training have been used for a few years in Turkey. Although cadaveric dissection training has some disadvantages such as tissue loss, degeneration of anatomical key points, diversification in the structure, lack of experience in live tissue tonus, difficulties in providing cadavers, and high cost; it is the gold standard technique for surgical skill transfer in eyelid surgery.

Opis:
Numerous granges in the neighbourhood of Wrocław could be noticed as early as medieval times. New granges were intensively created through the ages. A setback of grange building happened after 1945 when former manors became state property. Since then, former grange sets were only exploited, usually without any necessary maintenance and alteration work which lead to their destruction and even ruin. The grange objects which were adapted for educational or health services are in a much better state of preservation, as maintenance works were usually performed there. It is necessary to remember that palace‐ or palace‐grange sets were independent units which influenced and still influence spatial village composition in places where they existed. Through centuries they created the village cultural landscape, creating in that way the cultural heritage of the region. Unfortunately, in most inspected sets which are characterized by their historical values, a constant degradation can be noticed. The only chance of preservation for those former land estates is finding them a new function according to present needs, and a responsible landlord who would bring them back to their former glory. It is necessary to stress the need for preserving and protecting the heritage of what the former palace‐grange sets constitute without doubt. Finding appropriate functions and owners, specifying law, respecting it and state patronage is certainly a way to save those forgotten granges.

The vertebrate ichnofauna of the German Bunter, primarily horizons of the Hardegsen and Solling Formations, contains archosaur footprints of the genera Brachychirotherium, Chirotherium, Isochirotherium, Rotodactylus, and Synaptichnium. Footprint morphology, trackway pattern and stratigraphic occurrence show that only Synaptichnium and Brachychirotherium correspond with advanced proterosuchians and pseudosuchians. Chirotherium and Isochirotherium are above the pseudosuchian level. Rotodactylus somewhat resembles Lagosuchus. In the Lower Triassic existed at least five lines of fully terrestrially adapted archosaurs. From trackway evidence, the archosaurs of the Lower Triassic show a more complex radiation of terrestial locomotion types than would be expected from the presently known fossil bone record. The footprint fauna of the Buntsandstein may contain thecodonts as well as transitional (non pseudosuchian) forms which may foreshadow later crocodiles, ornithischians, and saurischians.

Opis:
Sideritic rocks, which are characteristic constituents of muddy-silty deposits of the Lower Jurassic Ciechocinek Formation, occur commonly as layers, lenses and small irregular concretions composed of siderite mudstone and siltstone as well as less common lenses of sideritic sandstones. Three types of siderite cement were observed in thin sections: fine-crystalline variety (SF), coarse-crystalline rhombohedra (SR) and fine-crystalline biogenic aggre gates (SA). In all these types BSE analysis revealed compositional zonation of crystals, with in ternal parts enriched in Mg, Mn and Ca and outer zones almost pure siderite. d13C values and chemical composition of siderites combined with the presence of early diagenetic pyrite indicate that siderite crystallized from brackish marine-derived solutions; only in the case of two samples from the lower part of the Ciechocinek Formation the fresh water origin cannotbe excluded. Mn and Fe were supplied by rivers and released by Fe- and Mn-reduction in suboxic zone, whereas Mg and Ca were derived from sea water, which infiltrated into the sediment. Crystal zonation resulted from the diagenetic evolution of pore water as the sediment was buried. Similar composition and development of siderite crystals from different parts of one layer indicate that siderite precipitated simultaneously throughout the whole horizon. Precipitation began from the formation of numerous nuclei and continued by growth of crystals onto them. It could begin already in the iron reduction subzone and continued in the sulphate reduction and methanogenesis zones.

This paper answers the question about the alternatives to the European Union membership (and its consequences) conceptualised by the inhabitants of Lower Silesia. To achieve this goal, this text delivers and discusses the empirical data, both quantitative and qualitative, answering the sub-questions if and how their lives have changed as a result of the accession to the EU as well as what are the alternatives, namely: How would our lives have looked like if Poland had not joined the EU in 2004? The article is empirical at its heart. It is built on some fresh data from an extensive research project conducted in 2014 – at the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the EU ‘big bang’ enlargement. At the same time it is the only study conducted in Poland which explores the question of citizens’ perceptions on the Europeanisation effects in such a complex and comprehensive way on the regional level. This study focuses on explaining the Lower Silesians’ opinions exclusively, which allows to see one of the most economically successful regions of Poland in the eyes of its inhabitants.

Due to the significant role that infrastructure plays in the mobilization and development of rural areas, the aim of this paper was to examine infrastructure in Lower Silesia, South Western Poland. A detailed study was carried out in 2004 and involved 133 communes. General information was obtained from a publicly available database of the Central Statistical Office in Poland. The information gathered on the level of technical, social and economic infrastructure in individual rural communes of Lower Silesia was used to calculate coefficients which, after standardization, were analysed using two statistical methods. First, cluster analysis was used in order to isolate relatively homogeneous groups of communes with regard to the level of their infrastructure. Then points were assigned to the com-munes using a multiple correspondence analysis. Based on the performed analyses, infrastructure in individual communes was assigned point values and commune in-frastructure was evaluated with an additional division into functional regions and individual types of infrastructure. Our results show considerable differences between the examined communes and between the functional regions in Lower Silesia.

Opis:
This article is an attempt to analyse information about the employment of the disabled in Lower Silesia in the years 2004–2013. The work is based on statistical data provided by PFRON as well as, in part, public statistics from Central Statistical Office for the same period. Due to the fact that these institutions used different methods in gathering information, the pictures they provide are incomplete and, more importantly, sometimes confliicting. There are unfortunately few sources of collected research for the region, which is why new tests and analysis are needed. The article presents the most important results of one of these tests, an attempt to establish the number and characteristics of the disabled working in socially provided jobs in Lower Silesia, showing the barriers that limit their work activity. It also suggests solutions from social politics in regard to the disabled which would be tools in the battle against social exclusion.

Lower Cretaceous
Carpathian Foreland
Peri-Tethys
Opis:
During the Early Cretaceous a central part of the Carpathian Foreland was situated in the Peri-Tethys area. That zone was located on the SW margin of the East European Craton and it was adjacent to the Tethys basins in the south. Impact of those both zoogeographic provinces (the Boreal Sea and the Tethys Ocean) is easily noticeable in assemblages of microfauna. Character of sedimentation in the Early Cretaceous basin of the Carpathian Foreland is connected mainly with changes of the sea-level as well as tectonic activity of this region. The stratigraphy and facies data are based on near two hundreds wells profiles. Detailed sedimentological profiles and photographic documentation of the Upper Jurassic and the Lower Cretaceous deposits from about 50 boreholes were done as well as micropalaeontological and microfacial studies of core samples. The presented work is an attempt of unification and formalization of lithostratigraphic units’ nomenclature. Two boreholes: Zagorzyce-7 andWiewiórka-4 were suggested as stratotype sections of distinguished formations. Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary is probably situated within limits of Ropczyce formation in this area. Three formations have been distinguished in the profile of Lower Cretaceous above Ropczyce formation: Zagorzyce limestone-marl formation (Berriasian age), Dębica marl and organodetritic limestone formation (Valanginian) andWiewiórka limestone formation (Late Valanginian-Hauterivian). The most marked erosion surface is recorded between Zagorzyce and Dębica formations. We suppose that hiatus including a large part of Lower Valanginian profile is connected with that erosion surface. It could be refered to a rapid fall of the sea-level in the Tethys Ocean, noticed inter alia in theWestern Carpathians and the Northern Calcareous Alps. The known existing thickness of the Lower Cretaceous sediments in the middle part of Carpathian Foreland (total of three formations: Zagorzyce fm., Dębica fm. andWiewiórka fm.) rises to 188 m in Zagorzyce-1 well.

Sedimentary environments and palynofacies were identified in the Lower Cretaceous of central Poland. The study was based on lithological observations, sedimentological logging and palynological investigations in the following boreholes: Poddębice PIG2, Koło IG3 and IG4, Wągrowiec IG1, Sarnów IG1, Ciechocinek IG3, Mszczonów IG1, Korabiewice PIG1, Człuchów IG2, Klosnowo IG1 and Tuchola IG1. Palynological observations were correlated with sedimentological, lithofacies and paleogeographical data. Sedimentary environments and palynofacies were analysed in the vertical section, and spatially in different areas: in the central basin area, in the carbonate-clastic deposition zone, in the transitional zone (deltaic sedimentation) and in a zone of an active salt pillow. The following sedimentary environments were identified in the Lower Cretaceous: upper shoreface and lower-middle shoreface with transitions to an offshore-open marine shelf, delta (?delta front) passing up into distributary channel fills on a delta plain, presumed barrier and shallow-marine embayment, lagoon and shallow carbonate-siliciclastic shelf. In case of the absence of diagnostic features for exact determination of sedimentary environments, the environments were defined as generally marine or transitional (probably deltaic). A maximum flooding surface has been identified in the Poddębice PIG2 section, represented by a thin dark-grey marl bed which seems to be dated at the Berriasian/Lower Valanginian transition. The relationships between sedimentary environments and the characteristics of the palynofacies spectrum were determined, and a palynofacies pattern for the Lower Cretaceous of central Poland was proposed in a tabular form.

A new discinoid brachiopod Gigadiscina gen. nov., with the type species G. lessardi sp. nov., is described from the Lower Devonian (Siegenian) of the Tamesna Basin (South Ahaggar Massif, South Algeria). It is characterised by large size and convexo−planar profile of the shell, with a subcentral pedicle foramen. Micro−ornament is typically discinoid, with small circular pits in radial rows on the post−larval shell surface. Related species of Malvinokaffric Realm origin from South Africa, Falkland Islands, Antarctica, South America, and Libya are reviewed, including the poorly known Discina anomala from the Lower Devonian of Germany. The giant size and convexo−planar shells of these discinoids, remarkably similar to recent limpets, are interpreted as adaptation to a habitat in proximity of sandy and gravel beaches in a high−energy environment. Most likely, the conical dorsal valve suppressed drag in turbulent waters, whereas fixation of shell by large, sucker−like pedicle eliminated peeling from the substrate.

New osteostracans (Agnatha, Osteostraci) Zenaspis dzieduszyckii sp. nov. and Wladysagitta janvieri gen. et sp. nov., as well as new form of Diademaspis are described from the Lower Devonian of Podolia (Ukraine). Among them Zenaspis dzieduszyckiisp. nov. differs from all other representatives of the genus by its smaller overall size and relatively larger orbits. Wladysagitta janvieri is remarkable by having a rostral process. This new species together with “Cephalaspis” acutirostris Stensiö, 1932 from Old Red deposits of Shropshire (Great Britain) are proposed to be united under common generic name Wladysagitta. Since Diademaspis sp. is completely unknown in outline of its shield, it could not be named as new species, although it should be a really new form. New diagnostic features, such as relative width of the orbits, relative width of the dorsal field, and the position of the posterior end of the lateral fields relatively to the margins of the headshield, are proposed to differentiate genera within the Zenaspididae. Probably, the rostral process of osteostracans should be considered as a multifunctional device having at least a sensory function for food−search, possibly hydrodynamic functions, or may play a role in scaring predators.

The Holovnia Siliceous Marls represent carbonate turbidites interbedded with non-calcareous pelagic/hemipelagic shales. This study reports on bioturbation pattern, trace fossil assemblage and distribution of bioturbation structures, i.e. structures resulting from the life activity of organisms in general, in the succession exposed in the village of Rybotycze. 20 ichnospecies were identified, with one new ichnogenus (Squamichnus) and one new species (Squamichnus acinaceformis). The ichnofossils represent nearly exclusively fodinichnia produced close to the seafloor, below calcite compensation depth. Shallow location of anoxic pore waters is indicated to be responsible for relatively shallow bioturbation depth whereas variability in frequency of turbidite sedimentation and petrographic composition of turbidites is suggested as the chief control on the vertical distribution of the bioturbation structures in the succession.

During the period from the last three hundred years BC to the beginning of the new era, (Hunno-Sarmatian period) the Huns in the East and the Sarmatians in the West changed the ethno-cultural situation in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Eurasia. The cultural change is also noticeable in the north of the Altai mountains. The territory of the intermountain valley of the Lower Katun is characterized by the Maima culture named after the Maima-1 monument. This culture is represented mainly by the settlement sites, such as Dolina Svobody-2, Maima-1, Maima-13, Maima-14, Cheremshanka. The latest research in the area of Mazherok village enabled to define the burial monuments of the Maima archaeological culture (Chultukov Log-1g, Ust-Muny-1). In the 2012 the archaeological excavation was conducted on the Maima culture site Chultukow-Log 9 by the Russian-Polish expedition from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Russian Academy of Science (Siberian Branch) and Institute of Archaeology, Jagiellonian University. The results of the 2010–2013 field research in the area of Mazherok village enabled to discover new monuments of the Maima archaeological culture on the territory of the intermountain valley of the Lower Katun, which expressly contributes to the more precise chronology of this cultural formation, geographical range and peculiarities of the development of the area as well as reconstruction of the economic activities of the North Altai population in the Hunno-Sarmatian period.

W II wieku, a najprawdopodobniej w czasach Hadriana, miasto zostało włączone do Mezji Dolnej. Upadek kultury antycznej w dolnym Naddniestrzu i Budżaku nastąpił w wyniku najazdu Hunów w latach 375-376.
In the early years AD the city of Tyras remained in an alliance with the Thracian kings. After 46 AD, and possibly slightly earlier, the city entered into an alliance with the Sarmatian rulers of Olbia, who are allies of Rome. In 56/57 AD Tyras could receive a guarantee of freedom from Rome. At the time of the Flavians Tyras began to strike coins typical for the eastern provinces of the Roman Empire. This could have been the result of a “monetary union”. It is possible that during this same period the city received a customs privilege. After the Dacian wars of Trajan a Roman garrison was established in Tyras. In the 2nd century, most probably during Hadrian’s reign, the city was incorporated into Lower Moesia. Around the middle of the third century, due to the difficult military situation on the Danube, the permanent garrison was withdrawn from Tyras. In the second half of the third century with the permanent presence of the Romans is confirmed only in the southern part of Boudjak, on the Danube. At the same time in those areas trade with the inhabitants of Boudjak increased at the cost of the Lower Dniester area. In such circumstances, the city declined economically. The collapse of ancient culture in this area should be connected with the invasion of the Huns in 375-376.

Specimens of the belemnitellid Praeactinocamax Naidin, 1964 are described from the Upper Cretaceous of NW Siberia (Taimyr Region, Lower Agapa River, Russia). The rostra determined as Praeactinocamax aff. plenus consist of an aragonitic anterior part and a calcitic posterior part with a sharp boundary in between. This boundary surface is referred to as the “alveolar fracture”, and it is a typical morphological feature of early belemnitellids and not a result of diagenetic processes. The occurrence of Praeactinocamax in Arctic areas shows a wider palaeobiogeographical distribution of the genus in the Late Cenomanian–Early Turonian interval than previously known. This finding suggests that migration of the late Cenomanian–early Turonian fauna occurred across Turgai channel. The geographic position of these new records may also explain the occurrence of Praeactinocamax in the Turonian of the US Western Interior Seaway, the origin of which has been hitherto unclear.

Ischnacanthiform acanthodian dentigerous jaw bones from the Lower Devonian (Late Lochkovian) of Podolia are described for the first time. One new genus and one new species are established. Podoliacanthus gen. nov. is diagnosed as having small−sized jaw bones, the presence of specific accessory cusps/denticles on the medial side of teeth of the lateral tooth row, and groups of denticles forming the lingual tooth row. Podoliacanthus zychisp. nov. is distinguished in having elongated slender jaw bones and lateral teeth with one medial side denticle. Besides, three species are described in open nomenclature: Podoliacanthus sp. 1, while similar to Podoliacanthus zychi sp. nov., differs in having stronger posterior inclination of the teeth tips and presence of well developed flanges of the teeth, P. sp. 2 has quite robust jaw bones and teeth with two medial side denticles, and Podoliacanthus sp. 3 has small narrow jaw bones and teeth with three medial side denticles. Morphology of the lingual tooth row is considered to be a diagnostic feature of generic and higher taxonomic levels, while accessory medial cusps/denticles of the teeth are regarded as diagnostic features at species level. The new genus also occurs in Upper Silurian or Lower Devonian deposits of North Greenland. Preservation of the jaw bones possibly depends on their secondary mineralization.

The scientific objective of the research conducted on Lower Silesia in 2013 was to identify social factors that influence the implementation process of agricultural development in agricultural holdings. The processes of land concentration proceed very slowly and the agricultural structure is dominated by small farms with low economic viability where income from farming is not sufficient to maintain the family, and surely does not provide any possibilities for development of such farms. To increase the productivity and efficiency of agriculture, it is necessary and essential to speed up the absorption of progress in agricultural holdings of 5 to 50 ha in area.

Opis:
INTRODUCTION Critical ischaemia and necrosis of the lower limb are reasons for amputation, whose level depends on the intensity of ischaemia, extend of atherosclerotic changes and possibilities of revscularisation. Despite undertaking revaskularisation a group of patients needs amputation of the operated limb. The main risk factors of limb loss are: atherosclerosis of blood-vessles of the lower limb, diabetes mellitus and arteriosclerosis obliterans. The aim of the study was to analyse reasons for lower limb amputation and to evaluate the infl uence of age, BMI and the level of hematocrit on choosing the method of treatment. We also analysed the diff erence between the group of patients with primary amputation and the group of patients with secondary amputation when it comes to the lenght and the number of hospital stays. MATERIAL AND METHODS A group of 88 patients, who have undergone amputation between 2004 and 2009 was analised. The group consisted 64 (72.7%) mens and 24 (27.3%) woman. The primary amputation was performed on 59 patients – on 41 (69.5%) patients a major amputation, on 18 (30.5%) patients a minor amputation. The secondary amputation was performed on 38 patients – on 15 (39.5%) patients a major amputation; on 23 (60.5%) patients a minor amputation. It was necessary to perform reamputation on 14 patients, on 9 (17.3%) patients after the primary amputation, on 5 (15.2%) patients after the secondary amputation. The statistical analysis was performed with the use of U Mann-Whitney’s test. RESULTS Patients with arteriosclerosis obliterans, atherosclerosis of blood-vessles of the lower limb and diabetes mallitus needed primary amputation more frequently (p = 0.01). The level of hematocrit, age and BMI do not aff ect the method of treatment (p = 0.28; p = 0.53; p = 0.93). There is no diff erence between the group of patients with primary amputation and the group of patients with secondary amputation, when it comes to the lenght and the number of hospital stays (p = 0.09; p = 0.95). CONCLUSIONS The most common reasons for amputation were: atherosclerosis of blood-vessles of the lower limb and arteriosclerosis obliterans. The level of hematocrit, age and BMI do not aff ect the method of treatment. There is no diff erence between the group of patients with primary amputation and the group of patients with secondary amputation, when it comes to the lenght and the number of hospital stays.
Grupa liczyła 64 (72,7%) mężczyzn i 24 (27,3%) kobiety. Amputację pierwotną wykonano u 59 pacjentów: u 41 (69,5%) dużą, u 18 (30,5%) małą. Amputację wtórną wykonano u 38 chorych: u 15 (39,5%) dużą, u 23 (60,5%) małą. Reamputacji wymagało 14 pacjentów, 9 (17,3%) po amputacji pierwotnej i 5 (15,2%) po amputacji wtórnej. Do analizy statystycznej zastosowano test U Manna-Whitneya.

Some properties of differential inclusions with lower semicontinuous right-hand side are considered. Our essential assumption is the one-sided Lipschitz condition introduced in [4]. Using the main idea of [10], we extend the well known relaxation theorem, stating that the solution set of the original problem is dense in the solution set of the relaxed one, under assumptions essentially weaker than those in the literature. Applications in optimal control are given.

Raman spectroscopy is an analytical technique which allows for conducting both qualitative and quantitative research of historical objects in a nondestructive way. In the research projects carried out by the Cultural Heritage Research Laboratory, it has been successfully applied in combination with other physicochemical methods, for the analysis of works of art and archeological objects found in Lower Silesia. Owing to the use of raman spectroscopy, research conducted directly on prehistoric rock crystals and amber allowed for identifying the origins of those objects without destroying them. Analysis of the painting materials used in the Gothic painting from the church of St. Matthias, allowed for verifying the initial pigment identification. Moreover, the complex physicochemical research helped to explain where the sources of raw material and places of manufacturing the archeological pottery were located. Physicochemical analysis based on modern analytical techniques supplied information allowing for broadening the knowledge concerning the examined objects.

Opis:
This work features a geometric and static analysis of the lower limb during bicycle ride. Basic dimensions are indicated, which are necessary for the description of movement geometry. The simplified flat model was adopted for the analysis. Using the transformation of Denavit-Hartenberg frames, vectors were developed for the position of the rotation axis of the joints in immovable frame. The inverse kinematics problem was solved. The course of displacement changes in the ankle joint was adopted as an angle function for crankset position, based on experimental research results, published in professional literature. The course was approximated with fifth grade polynomial. Joint displacements and loads were established. A sample calculation is presented, illustrating the subject computational algorithm.

Opis:
Bronchoscopy was introduced into clinical practice over 100 years ago. Due to technological advances, diagnostic capabilities of current bronchoscopy are not limited to the trachea and proximal bronchi but also include the peripheral airways as well as various anatomical structures located outside the bronchi. A wide range of available techniques that include bronchoalveolar lavage, protected microbiological brush, transbronchial biopsy of the lungs and mediastinal lymph nodes makes bronchoscopy useful in diagnosing various lower respiratory tract infections. For example, the collection of high quality biological samples for microbiological examination plays a crucial role when treating patients with nosocomial pneumonia. Bronchoscopy may provide the samples directly from the site of infection. In immunocompromised hosts bronchoscopy is routinely used as the diagnostic tool in lower respiratory tract infections. Due to implementation of novel therapies, the number of immunocompromised patients is steadily increasing, hence there are growing needs for effective diagnosis of opportunistic pulmonary infections. In the specific group of lung transplant recipients, bronchoscopy play a crucial role in monitoring the rejection process and also in differentiating between the rejection and pulmonary infections. Bronchoscopy is also useful in diagnosing tuberculosis or nontuberculous pulmonary infections. This particularly refers to patients who are unable to produce sputum for microbiological examination.

Opis:
The main goal of this paper was to assess the intensity of heat stress in Lower Silesia, Poland, during selected weather events characterized by high air temperatures. The complex impact of weather on the thermal load of the human organism is presented using the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). The analysis was carried out for the 2015 and 2018 summer seasons and compared with the multiannual period of 1971–2018. It was based on meteorological data from the IMGW-PIB stations of Wrocław, Jelenia Góra and Śnieżka. In order to examine how heat conditions affect UTCI in different geographical regions, stations located at different altitudes and representing the lowlands, the lower mountain zone and the summit zone of the Sudetes Mountains were considered. The research showed that during the most extreme thermal events, UTCI values in the lowlands and the lower mountain zones can be among the highest heat stress classes. In the summit zone, the maximum UTCI values are usually classed as ‘no thermal stress’.

New materials on the bothriolepidid Bothriolepis zadonica H.D. Obrucheva, 1983 from the Zadonskian Regional Stage (Upper Devonian, Lower Famennian) of Central Devonian Field (Central European Russia) are described and illustrated. These materials came from nine localities in the Orel and Tver Regions of Russia. This species is characterised by the presence of a well developed median dorsal crest in the trunk armour and unusual type of the preorbital recess of the head shield; this recess is designated herein “trapezoid”. The ontogenetic and individual variations of B. zadonica are studied. The crested bothriolepidids are known only from Euramerica and East Gondwana. The possible relationships between crested bothriolepidids in these provinces are discussed.

Opis:
The shallow water assemblage of chondrichthyan microremains, teeth, tooth plates and scales, from the middle Tournaisian (Mississippian) of the vicinity of Muhua village, Guizhou province, southern China, is thus far the richest and most diverse association of this age collected from a single locality and horizon, and represents a chondrichthyan community very restricted in time and space. It was recovered from a small bioclastic limestone lens, MH−1, occurring among basinal marls near the base of the Muhua Formation, and dated as to the Siphonodella crenulata conodont Zone. The majority of the fauna presented here consists of teeth with euselachian−type bases and crushing crowns belonging to bottom−dwelling durophagous chondrichthyans, most probably feeding on shelly invertebrates such as the abundant brachiopods. We assigned most of these teeth to Euselachii (six species, among them Cassisodus margaritae gen. et sp. nov.), Petalodontiformes (two species), Holocephali (five species), and Euchondrocephali incertae sedis (Cristatodens sigmoidalis gen. et sp. nov.). We also identified primitive polycuspid, clutching teeth representing Phoebodontiformes (Thrinacodus bicuspidatus sp. nov.), Symmoriiformes, and Ctenacanthiformes. The scales are typical growing, compound forms of the protacrodont, ctenacanth, and hybodont types. Two problematic denticulated plates were found, one of which resembles mandibular or palatal plates of Sibyrhynchus (Iniopterygii). Several of the identified chondrichthyan taxa have hitherto been known only from Laurussia, especially from the British Isles and central USA. In particular we found the first record of Chondrenchelyssp. and Diclitodus denshumani outside their type locality. Th. bicuspidatus sp. nov., also known from Nevada, Iran, and NW Australia, appears to be a cosmopolitan, middle Tournaisian index fossil.

W okresie likwidacji kopalń w Dolnośląskim Zagłębiu Węglowym (DZW) udokumentowano w części złóż ZG Chrobry i ZG Victoria jedyne w Polsce złoże antracytu Wałbrzych-Gaj. Wykorzystując istniejącą infrastrukturę powierzchniową i wyrobiska podziemne, utworzono Zakład Wydobywczo-Przeróbczy Antracytu, który działał w latach 1994-1998. Po skreśleniu zasobów antracytu z krajowego bilansu, pozostawione w złożu zasoby w ilości około 46 mln ton zaliczono do resztkowych zasobów bilansowych węgli DZW.
During the liquidation of mines in the Lower Silesian Coal Basin (LSCB), the only Polish anthracite deposit, Wałbrzych-Gaj, was documented in part of the ZG Chrobry and ZG Victoria deposits. Using the existing surface infrastructure and underground workings, the Anthracite Mining and Processing Plant was established, which operated in the years 1994-to1998. After deleting the anthracite resources from the national balance, the resources left in the deposit, in the amount of about 46 million tonnes, were included in the residual balance resources of DZW coal. It seems possible to develop a part of the deposit that has not been made available and has not been shared so far by a new mining plant. Anthracite, this forgotten Lower Silesian mineral with the large and growing importance of raw materials and high prices on the world market, is waiting to be used in the future.

The objective of the present study is to identify rules governing the distribution and thematic structure of creative activities, using the region of Lower Silesia in southwestern Poland as an example. This empirical study is based on the data obtained from the Central Registration and Information on Business (CEIDG) as of 2018. Rural areas (compared to cities) generally display a lower level of economic activity. Analysis results confirm that craft-based activities are usually carried out outside large cities. A clear structure of specialisation among creative activities indicates that rural areas should mainly undertake activities that are consistent with the character of a particular local setting and are strongly connected with local conditions.

Thirteen new species of the family Cupedidae (Coleoptera: Archostemata) from Las Hoyas (Cuenca province) and El Montsec (Lleida province) fossil sites from the Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) of Spain are described. Ten of them belong to subfamily Ommatinae: Tetraphalerus ponomarenkoi, Tetraphalerus penalveri, Cionocoleus longicapitis, Brochocoleus indibili, Zygadenia viridis, Zygadenia oculata, Zygadenia martinclosas, Zygadenia longicoxa, and Zygadenia siniestri. Three of them are assigned to subfamily Cupedinae: Priacma sanzii, Anaglyphites zherikhini, and Anaglyphites pluricavus. Placement of genus Cionocoleus among subfamily Ommatinae is proposed. These new species extend the record of genera Zygadenia, Cionocoleus, Brochocoleus, Priacma, and Anaglyphites to the western part of Barremian European deposits. Nowadays the family Cupedidae is considered to be a relic group, restricted to few genera and species on Asia, Africa, Australia, and America, with limited geographical distribution, while during the Mesozoic the cupedids were distributed all over Laurasia. The Mesozoic cupedid−bearing localities are mostly interpreted as warm temperate to subtropical environments.

Deposits of the Röt Formation (Lower–Middle Triassic) in the eastern part of the North-Sudetic Synclinorium (Bolesławiec Syncline), SW Poland, include numerous synsedimentary deformation structures. Six boreholes with a total core length of ~434 m enabled macroscopic analysis and description of these deformation structures, supplemented by borehole log interpretation, calcimetric analysis, and interpretation of 2D surface seismics. An interval up to ~42 m-thick at the base of the Röt Formation showed both brittle and soft-sediment deformation structures. Their abundance and intensity decrease towards the top of the Röt Formation, and they completely disappear in the Muschelkalk (Middle Triassic). Both the number of boreholes and their locations indicate the presence of such structures across the entire study area. The occurrence of deformation structures in each borehole analysed and their large lateral range suggest that the uppermost part of the Lower Triassic and lowermost part of the Middle Triassic in the study area were influenced by seismic activity. As a result, tectonic reorganization of the study area is inferred for the latest Early/earliest Middle Triassic.

It is known that wishbone is a hinged suspension link between the chassis and the suspension hub that carries the wheel. This paper describes the failure analysis of a lower wishbone (control arm) in a light commercial vehicle which had been involved in service loading. The wishbone was analyzed in two ways. In order to investigate reason of the failure, finite element modelling was conducted to evaluate stress distribution and reliability of wishbone. Moreover, the metallographic and hardness evaluation were made on weld seam of the failed part. From metallographic observations, the presence of porosity was found in weld seam. Hardness distributions from the parent material to weld region are measured in the expected range. The results of finite element analysis and metallographic examination showed that the fatigue failure was initiated from highly stressed region in weld seam, and the presence of porosity stimulated crack initiation as well as crack growth.

The most common ichnogenus in the Peace River Canyon is Amblydactylus, a large bipedal herbivore. The morphology of the hand and footprints suggest that the tracks and trackways were made by hadrosaurs, and the ichnites might represent the earliest record of these dinosaurs. Amblydactylus tracks were made in a wide variety of depositional environments, including the mud beneath several metres of water. Juveniles were gregarious and stayed together after hatching until they were large enough to join herds of more mature animals. Hadrosaur herds appear to have walked side by side, seldom crossing paths, although there was little structure to the herds when they were in the water and/or feeding. Calculation of the walking speeds indicate that the herbivores were generally slower than the carnivores.

In the type-area of the Eggenburgian regional stage (Lower Burdigalian) sands with large-scale clinoforms were studied north-west of Eggenburg (Lower Austria). Stratigraphic and facies architecture, palaeocurrent pattern and inferred palaeogeographic setting show that these sands are deposits of W-E trending and SW to SSE prograding coastal spit systems, attached to crystalline shoals or islets in the shallow marine Eggenburg Bay. The spits were dominantly formed by shoal parallel accretion above fair-weather wave base due to longshore transport. The 4-5 m thick clinoforms with bottomset, foreset and topset structures contain up to 3.6 m thick, steeply inclined foresets, dominated by sediment gravity-flow deposition. Relatively stable depositional conditions, characterized by strong unidirectional currents, high sand supply and sufficient accommodation space are assumed for their formation. However, internal reactivation surfaces indicate variations in current activity, orientation and velocity. The deposits of spit systems are interpreted as part of a transgressive systems tract. The provenance analysis reveals the local Moravian and Moldanubian crystalline rocks as principal source. The spit sands of the Burgschleinitz Formation show the highest mineralogical maturity within the studied Lower Miocene succession. Intense reworking and redeposition of material from older deposits is evident. Due to the ongoing transgression deposits of the following Gauderndorf Formation and Zogelsdorf Formation exhibit a larger catchment area with input of high amounts of fresh weathered material.

Opis:
The paper shows chemical alterations of the Rutki-Ligota basalt deposit of the Tertiary Volcanic Formation of Lower Silesia. The investigations indicate that the chemical alterations of basalts result from their textures and variations in mineral composition. The results of mineralogic studies of basalts suggest varied alteration processes: serpentinization, iddingsitization, uralitization and carbonatization. Some of products of these alterations (largely amphiboles and iron hydroxides) were identified using Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results of the studies indicate the usefulness of the Rutki-Ligota basalts not only in breakstone but also in mineral wool production.

Opis:
The hyolith assemblage from the Lower Cambrian Bastion Formation of North−East Greenland is significant in that it contains several hyolith taxa that possess traits of both orders Hyolithida and Orthothecida. They possess morphological traits that seem to be characteristic of the ancestral forms of both groups. In addition, many hyolith taxa from this interval are globally distributed, supporting the notion that these fossils have potential as stratigraphic indicators. This assemblage contains genera and/or species seen in Australia, North America, the Siberian Platform, and South China. Hyoliths identified include the hyolithids Parkula bounites, Hyptiotheca karraculum, Microcornus eximius, M. petilus, Paracornus poulseni gen. et sp. nov., as well as Similotheca similis?, S. bastionensis sp. nov., and S. groenlandica sp. nov.; two opercula remain in open nomenclature. Orthothecids from this assemblage are one unnamed species each of Contitheca and Gracilitheca. Large, macro−sized hyoliths from the same formation described by Poulsen (1932) are mostly unidentifiable, although an operculum formerly identified as Hyolithes (Orthotheca) communis is reassigned to Hyptiotheca. Problematic organisms of uncertain affinity include Cupitheca holocyclata, Conotheca australiensis, an unnamed species of Coleolus, and the cap−shaped Cassitella baculata gen. et sp. nov. that may be an operculum of some as yet unknown organism. Missarzhevsky (1969) used Hyolithes(Orthotheca) bayonet var. groelandicus and H. (O.) bayonet var. longus as the basis for Lenatheca, but the specimens on which that genus is based are too poorly known for a proper diagnosis of Lenatheca.

Opis:
A modification of Dempster's and Pawlak's constructs forms a new foundation for the identification of upper and lower sets formulas. Also, in this modified Dempster-Pawlak construct we require that subsets of the power set be restricted to the well-known information granules of the power set. An aggregation of upper information granules amongst each other and lower information granules amongst each other determine upper and lower set formulas for both crisp and fuzzy sets. The results are equivalent to the Truth Table derivation of FDCF and FCCF, Fuzzy Disjunctive Canonical Forms and Fuzzy Conjunctive Canonical Forms, respectively. Furthermore, they collapse to DNF \equiv CNF, i.e., the equivalence of Disjunctive Normal Forms and Conjunctive Normal Forms, in the combination of concepts once the LEM, LC and absorption, idempotency and distributivity axioms are admitted into the framework. Finally, a proof of the containment is obtained between FDCF and FCCF for the particular class of strict and nilpotent Archimedian t-norms and t-conorms.

Opis:
Swamp-originating meadows constituting indirect habitats between living peatlands and classical grasslands may be difficult to evaluate. An indiscriminate application of the Oświt (2000) method for their valorization does not fully reflect their value, because of flora which is different from flora found in living peatlands (in particular, the invasion of less hygrophilous flora). Based on the research carried out in the years 2005–2010 on eight swamp-originating meadow complexes, the scale was elaborated which enabled to more accurately valorize these habitat and floristically changed areas. The quantities of valorization values obtained by use of the author’s method rely on the occurrence frequency of a given species (a number of posts in a given area), taking into consideration moisture requirements (the moisture indicator). In the author’s method values were also given for species not taken into account by Oświt (2000). In addition, positive points were given for dying out species, and negative points for invasive species.

Opis:
The Lower Devonian ‘Placoderm Sandstone’ in the Holy Cross Mountains (HCM) is filled with abundant impressions of disarticulated vertebrate remains. The only acanthodian macroremains named to date are fin spines of Machaeracanthus polonicus Gürich. Fin spine impressions in slabs from the Winna Formation (Emsian) at Podłazie Hill (near Daleszyce) in the southern HCM, and also the Barcza Formation (?Lochkovian) at Barcza Quarry, Miedziana Góra Conglomerate (?Lochkovian), Gruchawka, and Zagórze Formation (middle–upper Emsian) at Bukowa Mountain in the northern HCM, reposited in the University of Warsaw, Polish Geological Institute-National Research Institute, Warsaw, and Natural History Museum, London collections, have been cast and studied in order to better document this poorly known taxon. As noted in other Machaeracanthus species, we have found that M. polonicus has two different morphotypes of spines, which abut lengthwise to form a pair of spines. Our investigations show that the fin spine assemblage includes Onchus overathensis as well as M. polonicus, and probably another undetermined acanthodian. The affinities of O. overathensis are reassessed. It is here considered to be a diplacanthiform, and reassigned to the genus Striacanthus, as S. overathensis. Acanthodian scapulocoracoids have also been identified, as well as tightly spiralled toothwhorls which could be from an acanthodian.
