Opis:
The problem of width of landscape boundary remains widely discussed from more then one century. The author attempts to describe a width of some landscape boundaries of a higher rank by describing the mosaic of a lower rank landscape units. The research was realised within upland landscape of Nida Basin and lowland landscape of Wigry National Park.

Opis:
The paper describes features of landscape boundaries in the lowland landscape of Poland and verifies their cross-scale properties. The diversity of lithology, morphometry and land use was taken into account by delimitation of the boundaries. A scale of 1:50 000 was set as the basis. Three structural features (length, contrast and sinuosity) and two functional features (permeability and stability) were examined. The boundaries within the research area are typically of average length, low sinuosity, high permeability and low stability. A high correspondence between the diversity of abiotic components and land use is observed, resulting in a large number of high-contrast boundaries. However, this feature does not necessarily mean that these patterns are cross scale and can be applied at a higher level of landscape hierarchy. A geochemical/typological and regional order has been explored to describe properties of landscape boundaries for different spatial scales. Only the first of the listed orders corresponds to diversification of boundary features.

ecotourism
Opis:
Ecotourism, understood as a form of leisure conforming with the principles of environmental protection and promoting its natural and cultural values, is dynamically developing in almost all parts of the world. Properly carried out, ecotourism projects may be an essential instrument of regional development. Problems of ecotourism development in four areas of West Africa, i.e. the Comoe National Park (Ivory Coast), the Dogoń Country (Mali), the northern Dallol Boss Region and Koure (Niger), and the Air and Tenere Natural Reserves (Niger) are discussed in the article. A common characteristic of the chosen areas are their significant natural and cultural values and the occurrence of tourist activeness allowing to ąualify them as ecotouristic sites. The analysis of both external and internal success factors in ecotourism leads to the conclusion that, in the discussed regions, ecotourism development is a positive phenomenon. It should, however, be accompanied by continuous supervision of environmental conditions and ecological education of the local population.

Opis:
The article describes the present condition and the development trends of ornithological tourism in Poland. A questionnaire survey, participant observation and interviews have produced a description of Polish bird-watchers and ornithological tourism organizers. A partial distribution of bird-watching sites and needs for development have also been described. Polish ornithological tourism is at an early development stage, however, as in other countries, a dynamic growth of interest in this activity is found.

W geografii są cztery koncepcje opisu relacji przestrzennych – przestrzeni, środowiska, miejsca i krajobrazu. Wszystkie one są przydatne w geografii turyzmu, ale są związane z różnymi podejściami metodologicznymi.
There are four theoretical concepts in geography for describing spatial relations – space, environment, place and landscape. All of them are useful in tourism geography research but they are connected to differing methodological approaches

Opis:
The aim of the study was to develop a low-cost method for tourism opportunity spectrum evaluation in rural landscapes. The method uses the geographic information system (GIS) for spatial analysis of the problem. Open source materials are used in the evaluation. Three principal indices derived from spatial data are evaluated: attraction index, view index, and access index. These form the basis for tourism suitability and opportunity spectrum evaluation. The analysis is realized for two types of tourists: those using cars, and hikers. The method permits the current state of tourism to be identified, and points out possible ways for further development as well as identifying valuable but overexploited zones which should be conserved. The obtained results can improve the sustainable management of landscapes and enhance the profits of rural areas.

Opis:
The methods of severe plastic deformation (SPD) of metals and metal alloys are very attractive due to the possibility of refinement of the grains to nanometric sizes, which facilitates obtaining high mechanical properties. This study investigated the influence of SPD in the process of hydrostatic extrusion (HE) on the anisotropy of the mechanical properties of the CuCrZr copper alloy. The method of HE leads to the formation of a characteristic microstructure in deformed materials, which can determine their potential applications. On the longitudinal sections of the extruded bars, a strong morphological texture is observed, manifested by elongated grains in the direction of extrusion. In the transverse direction, these grains are visible as equiaxed. The anisotropy of properties was mainly determined based on the analysis of the static mini-sample static tensile test and the dynamic impact test. The obtained results were correlated with microstructural observations. In the study, three different degrees of deformation were applied at the level necessary to refine the grain size to the ultrafine-grained level. Regardless of the applied degree of deformation, the effect of the formation of a strong morphological texture was demonstrated, as a result of which there is a clear difference between the mechanical properties depending on the test direction, both by the static and dynamic method. The obtained results allow for the identification of the characteristic structure formed during the HE process and the more effective use of the CuCrZr copper alloy in applications.

Opis:
The research presented in this paper concerns the influence of the rate of plastic deformation generated directly in the processes of severe plastic deformations on the microstructure and properties of three metals: copper, iron and zinc. The equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) method was used, and it was performed at a low plastic deformation rate of ∼ 0.04 s−1. The high plastic strain rate was obtained using the hydrostatic extrusion (HE) method with the deformation rate at the level of ∼ 170 s−1. For all three tested materials different characteristic effects were demonstrated at the applied deformation rates. The smallest differences in the mechanical properties were observed in copper, despite the dynamic recrystallization processes that occurred in the HE process. In Armco iron samples, dynamic recovery processes in the range of high plastic deformation rates resulted in lower mechanical properties. The most significant effects were obtained for pure zinc, where, regardless of the method used, the microstructure was clearly transformed into bimodal after the ECAP process, and homogenized and refined after the HE process. After the HE process, the material was transformed from a brittle state to a plastic state and the highest mechanical properties were obtained.
