Opis:
Until recently, what was treated as unique resources in strategic management were financial, human and other resources, and their uniqueness was examined mostly in quantitative terms. However, globalisation of economic processes has meant that a degree to which resources are unique determine their quality, as a result of which they cannot be evaluated solely in quantitative terms. Such unique resources include competencies, dynamic capabilities and other intellectual resources within organisations, including their potential for innovation and imitation. The purpose of this article is to discuss the construct of potential for imitation considered in terms of the dynamic capability of organisation. The starting point in the study was to outline the essence of the dynamic capabilities of the organization, then the potential of imitation in the dynamic capacity system was embedded in order to finally refer to the link between innovation and imitation.
Do takich unikalnych zasobów można przede wszystkim zaliczyć kompetencje, dynamiczne zdolności i inne intelektualne zasoby organizacji, w tym innowacyjny i imitacyjny potencjał organizacji.

Opis:
This paper reports the results of a pilot study concerned with phonetic imitation in the speech of Polish learners of English. The purpose of the study was to investigate whether native speakers of Polish imitate the length of English vowels and to determine whether the extent of phonetic imitation may be influenced by the model talker being a native or a non-native speaker of English. The participants were asked to perform an auditory naming task in which they indentified objects and actions presented on a set of photos twice, with and without the imitation task. The imitation task was further sub-divided depending on the model talker being a native or non-native speaker of English (a native Southern British English speaker and a native Polish speaker fluent in English). As the aim was to investigate the variability in durational characteristics of English vowels, the series of front vowels /æ e ɪ iː/ were analysed in the shortening and lengthening b_t vs. b_d contexts. The results of the study show that the participants imitated the length of the investigated vowels as a result of exposure to the two model talkers. The data suggest that the degree of imitation was mediated both by linguistic and social factors and that the direction of convergence might have been affected by the participants’ attitude toward L2 pronunciation.

Pierre de Deimier’s “Académie de l’art poétique” is a treaty written at the time of transition between Renaissance and Classical aesthetics. Consequently, Deimier, who continues to respect the regularisation of French poetry, is much more liberal in the applications of the rules of literature than his successors. Contrary to his predecessors, he acknowledges the primacy of invention over imitation, and distinguishes between free and close imitation. Only free imitation is acceptable.

Translation is not only an important way to learn the art of poetry, but also provides a way to understand other cultures. However, it is mostly misunderstood: some would desire a literal translation even if the spirit of the text is lost, others a loose version even if the meaning is lost. Everything we write is already a translation in that is made of words as opposed to the original experience, and every translation is then necessarily an interpretation. Literary translation involves trying to recreate the experience of the original, and this can be done in ways ranging from actual translation to imitation.

Phonetic convergence is the process by which a speaker adapts his/her speech to sound more similar to his/her interlocutor. While most studies analysing this process have been conducted amongst speakers sharing the same language or variety, this experiment focuses on imitation between non-native and native speakers in a repetition task. The data is a fragment from the ANGLISH corpus designed by Anne Tortel (Tortel, 2008). 40 French speakers (10 male intermediate, 10 male advanced, 10 female intermediate and 10 female advanced learners) were asked to repeat a set of 20 sentences produced by British native speakers. Segmental (vowel quality), suprasegmental (vowel duration) and voice quality were analysed. Level of proficiency, gender and model talker were taken as independent variables. Level appeared not to be a relevant parameter due to a high amount of inter-individual variability amongst groups. Somewhat contradictory results were observed for vowel duration and F1-F2 distance for male learners converged more than female learners. Our hypothesis that low vowels display a higher degree of imitation, and especially within the F1 dimension (Babel, 2012), was partially validated. Convergence in vowel duration in order to sound more native-like was also observed (Zając, 2013). Regarding the analysis of voice quality, and more particularly of creaky voice, observations suggest that some advanced female learners creaked more than the native speakers and more in the reading task, which indicate, both linguistic idiosyncrasy and accommodation towards the native speakers. Low vowels seem also to be more likely to be produced with a creaky voice, especially at the end of prosodic constituents.

The paper investigates immediate and distracted imitation in second-language speech using unreleased plosives. Unreleased plosives are fairly frequently found in English sequences of two stops. Polish, on the other hand, is characterised by a significant rate of releases in such sequences. This cross-linguistic difference served as material to look into how and to what extent non-native properties of sounds can be produced in immediate and distracted imitation. Thirteen native speakers of Polish first read and then imitated sequences of words with two stops straddling the word boundary. Stimuli for imitation had no release of the first stop. The results revealed that (1) a non-native feature such as the lack of the release burst can be imitated; (2) distracting imitation impedes imitative performance; (3) the type of a sequence interacts with the magnitude of an imitative effect

The main question discussed in this paper is: Can we say that, in the light of orthodox Catholic theology, woman is an image of Christ in a way equal to man? How Jesus and His Mother should be treated as examples for imitation for Christians of both sexes on this ground? The first part of the article explains the terms imago Dei and imago Christi, and connection between them in their biblical, dogmatical, and contemporary theological-anthropological context, the last one understood strictly as anthropology in documents of the Catholic Magisterium published during and after II Vatican Council. The second part concerns the problem of Jesus and Mary as models for men, and/or women in the present day, on the basis of Church documents, especially Mariological ones. The third part considers the problem of women as imago Christi in the light of Catholic feminist theology. Conclusions are proposed at the end of the paper.

The main aim of this article is to demonstrate that in a dynamically changing business environment, an organization should focus on embracing imitation strategies such as a safer form of building up its market position. The author addresses issues of innovation and imitation, provides definitions and defines realistic conditions and advantages of imitation strategies. Innovation does not guarantee a company's market success. The research conducted has shown that imitation is not only a commonly used strategy of creating competitiveness, but it is also the foundation of many firms’ success stories. Innovative imitation, technological diffusion, creative imitation should be treated equally as innovation – as a another development strategy, different form of strategy implementation, assuming less risk and wider market access with less risk and cost.

Opis:
An imitation of a Roman siliqua was found during an archaeological survey carried out by the Institute of Prehistory of Poznań University at a settlement from the late Roman period in Konarzewo near Poznań (site 5). The find was discovered in the east part of the settlement, in a culture layer above structure E64 or even in its upper part. A considerable number of sherds were found at this structure and in the vicinity. The beginnings of the settlement are dated from 340 AD using dendrochronology. A cremation burial ground discovered in one of the wells is supposed to have been used from the middle of the fifth century to the middle of the sixth century. The imitation of siliqua is made of .970 silver. It is oval in shape (21 x 18 mm) and weighs 2.916 g. Surprisingly, the Emperor's bust, which was very well copied, is in contrast to totally blundered legends, where the letters are difficult to recognize. Moreover, the reverse is very poorly marked and hardly visible. A heavy siliqua of Constantius II from the years 353-357 with the inscription VOTIS/XXX/ MVLTIS/XXXX, presumably from Sirmium served as the pattern. However, the hairdo is different (Emperors hair is parted at the top of his head to the front and back). It has analogies on Byzantine coins of Justin I and Justinian I. Therefore, there is a possibility that although the imitation found in Konarzewo was influenced by a coin from the fourth century, it was made not earlier than in the sixth century. Other, previously known imitations of siliquae of Constantius II, imitations which had been made earlier, e.g. those from the hoards of Kecel (Romania), Budai (Moldoya) and Laatzen (Germany), look completely different, and this fact weighs in favour of a later chronology. It is also a well-known fact that as regards making ornaments (brooches), Roman coins were also imitated after a considerable passage of time. The imitation discovered in Konarzewo was probably made outside the boundaries of the Empire, but at a relatively small distance, to the north of the Danube. The maker was an artistic illiterate, who remained under the direct influence of Roman culture. His aim was to produce a jewellery rather than a coin. The very poor reproduction of the reverse, which is nearly invisible, argues for this. The non-monetary function of the artefact would be obvious if we were to assume a later date for its manufacture. It was probably a pendant, which was only later turned into a brooch. A strong bend at one edge of the artefact and the punching of two little holes near the other edge argues for a change of function. The holes are situated close to the edge behind the Emperor's head and could not have been cut when the artefact was made or when it served as a pendant. Their purpose may have been to attach a pin and clip mechanism to the brooch (6 figures).

According to the traditional view, the notion of imagination in early modern aesthetics was a rather marginal and subsidiary concept within the classical doctrine of mimesis dominated by rules and reason. The present paper raises some doubts about this well-established opinion. It argues that even if imagination in early modern aesthetics did not play as prominent role as in Romantic poetics, the concept had significant relevance. It presents one important episode from the Renaissance debate on imagination, which arose from the sixteenth century literary quarrel over the artistic quality and the uncertain genre of Dante’s Commedia. Its main distinctive category was “fantastic imitation” — a concept derived from Plato, yet misunderstood and thus transformed.

In this paper I analyze the materialization and public debate over the “Polish Migration Policy – current stage and the recommended actions” document, and the parts regarding the integration of immigrants in particular. I apply a neoinstitutional theoretical framework which allows me to conceptualize the mechanisms of the Europeanization process, and show that the integration policy is mainly developed by imitating the instruments promoted by the European Commission. I study imitation by applying the notions of translation and editing. This allows me to understand how the imitated model is adapted in the local context. The non-governmental organizations which commented on the document perceived the European model as suited for imitation. The public debate over the “Migration Policy of Poland” contributed to further strengthening and adaptation of the imitated model.

The study focuses on Katherine Manfield’s short story entitled Psychology. A detailed analysis and interpretation aim at clarification what is missing in the story, as while reading the story one may feel the lack of something. The main character (“she”) has two guests who are parallel to each other and thus the story can be divided into two parts. Thanks to the second visit (of her female friend) the main character regains the peace of mind, which was ruined by man’s (the first guest’s) deviating from the established code of conduct in their relationship. Definitely, in the text the dominating function is the phatic function of language. However, it does not work as an introduction to a conversation but it is the conversation itself. The story builds a world in which there is no real contact between the characters and it may be interpreted as a reflection of a superfluous reading of a literary work of art. Nonetheless, the story invites the reader to the more careful reception of the literary text, paradoxically, by means of, among others, such a simple plot, a visible discrepancy between the open dialogues and the utterances of “secret selves”, autothematic allusions and the lack of the diachronic dimension.

Imitation jewellery, also known as “secondary gems”, has been people’s companion from antiquity. Its representative objects, however, have rarely been assigned their individualised proper names – thesauronyms. As an answer to the appeal of Polish art historians and museologists: Ewa Letkiewicz, Katarzyna Kluczwajd, Monika Paś and Dorota Zahel, this study is an attempt at a linguistic and culturological presentation of thesauronyms that signify: a pair of earrings, collar, ring, fur fastener clip, necklaces, brooches, duette brooches, jewellery series, collections, lines, sets, limited edition. The attention is also drawn to the specificity of thesauronyms distinguishing similar jewellery items and thesauronyms denoting many various and completely different referents. Moreover, motivation analysis, semantic and motivation analysis, and structural analysis of the names of imitation jewellery names has been conducted. The findings allowed for redefining, verifying, supplementing and extending the term thesauronym.

Adversarial decision making is aimed at determining strategies to anticipate the behavior of an opponent trying to learn from our actions. One defense is to make decisions intended to confuse the opponent, although our rewards can be diminished. This idea has already been captured in an adversarial model introduced in a previous work, in which two agents separately issue responses to an unknown sequence of external inputs. Each agent’s reward depends on the current input and the responses of both agents. In this contribution, (a) we extend the original model by establishing stochastic dependence between an agent’s responses and the next input of the sequence, and (b) we study the design of time varying decision strategies for the extended model. The strategies obtained are compared against static strategies from theoretical and empirical points of view. The results show that time varying strategies outperform static ones.

First of all, the article explains the meaning of such terms as deprivation and the Politics of Imitation, and then determines their potential impact on the phenomenon of tribal war. The research problem is whether the categories of the politics of imitation and relative deprivation related to the crisis of democracy can constitute one of the sources of tribal war and how this link could be realized? The problem is analyzed in the context of the process known as the counter-revolution in relation to the changes that took place after 1989.

Opis:
It is frequently mentioned that during economic crisis one of the key elements of strengthening SMEs is permanent renewal and capability of innovation. However, only some businesses are able to carry out classical product/service innovation (Schumpeter). We are of the opinion that observing the best practice, adoption and/or adaption – the imitation – should be given a higher function in everyday business life. From the point of view of business development, imitation can be more important than innovation. To find ideas worth imitating it is necessary to react and start to produce rapidly, at the right time and bring to the market the essentials of imitation. The aim of the paper is to give a theoretical overview of the interpretations of innovation and imitation. Sectoral features and regional differences determine the scope of development and renewal for existing enterprises. At the same time the knowledge of entrepreneurs regarding innovation is insufficient, thus a new paradigm is needed.

Opis:
The article discusses three various stages of artistic experiment. Both a source concept of experiment in artistic practice, developed by Émile Zola in the 19th century under the banner of 'experimental novel', and the neo-avant-garde distinction into Art art and experimental art created by Allan Kaprow in the 1960s, established a close connection of experiment with uncertainty and risk. In this context, the article investigates the extent to which contemporary artists' practices, including those frequently defined as experimental, can be subsumed under the historical meaning of experiment and poses a question whether they might have created another style of art. The problem is analysed in reference to Artur Żmijewski's film, Powtórzenie [Repetition].

Opis:
In her paper, Ewa Wąchocka examines the phenomenon of recent dramatic works becoming increasingly more ‘musical’ and the terminological shift it brought about, i.e. the inclusion of the term ‘musical dramaturgy’ in writing for the stage. The author argues that far from being limited to the sounds of speech and language in general, musicality also encompasses a variety of non-musical sounds, the unravelling of the play’s narrative and the psychological makeup of its characters; it also penetrates deeply into the structure of the text. In the analysis of plays by W. Murek, A. Grzegorzewska, and S. Bogacz, the author demonstrates how essential the inspirations sourced from musical culture are for recent dramatic works: the 20th-century experiments with music, the discovery of how potent sound expression can be, or the most technologically advanced methods of sound reproduction. By presenting the many and varied dramatic strategies, the author shows that contemporary playwrights not only use musicality to represent the sound landscape of the world but, first and foremost, to create the ontology of an internally conflicted world.

Opis:
Machine learning is an appealing and useful approach to creating vehicle control algorithms, both for simulated and real vehicles. One common learning scenario that is often possible to apply is learning by imitation, in which the behavior of an exemplary driver provides training instances for a supervised learning algorithm. This article follows this approach in the domain of simulated car racing, using the TORCS simulator. In contrast to most prior work on imitation learning, a symbolic decision tree knowledge representation is adopted, which combines potentially high accuracy with human readability, an advantage that can be important in many applications. Decision trees are demonstrated to be capable of representing high quality control models, reaching the performance level of sophisticated pre-designed algorithms. This is achieved by enhancing the basic imitation learning scenario to include active retraining, automatically triggered on control failures. It is also demonstrated how better stability and generalization can be achieved by sacrificing human-readability and using decision tree model ensembles. The methodology for learning control models contributed by this article can be hopefully applied to solve real-world control tasks, as well as to develop video game bots.

Decorative motives known from the Chinese blue-and-white porcelain began to appear massively on Persian ceramics between the 14th and 17th century. Interestingly, the initial role of adaptations being a  substitute for an expensive original became something more – a source of inspiration for making new vessels decorated not only in cobalt blue but also in colorful slips. The article is dedicated to an analysis of Persian adaptations of Chinese kraak porcelain made during the Safavid period (1501-1732). Due to the fact that the process of adaptation was very complex and there is no 1:1 copy of a kraak dish in Iran, author in her research has to focus on comparing individual motifs instead of the whole vessels. She introduces new categorization of the adapted designs and divides them into 4 groups depending on how close they resemble the Chinese origi nals: in group 1 called literal adaptations the motifs are most similar to the originals; in group 2 named edited adaptations are those that have an element added or taken away; in group 3, altered adaptations, the designs undergo changes in style but still bear the basic characteristics of the originals; in group 4, free adaptations, are those that only resemble the Chinese ones.

Opis:
Studies on stop unrelease in second language acquisition have hitherto focused on the productions of Slavic learners of English (Šimačkova & Podlipsky, 2015) and experiments on Polish learners of English; the latter show the tendency to release stops on a more regular basis depending on the type of stop combinations (Rojczyk et al. 2013). In the present study, we aim to test the efficiency of audio-visual explanations as opposed to distracted imitation in pronunciation teaching amongst French learners of English. While unreleased stops are rather frequent in French and English - especially in plosives clusters (Byrd, 1993; Davidson, 2010), unreleased plosives in final positions are less common in French (Van Dommelen, 1983). During phase 1 of the experiment, three groups of 12 native French learners of English (level A1/A2, B1/B2 and C1/C2) were asked to read idiomatic expressions containing both homogeneous and heterogeneous sequences of voiceless stops straddled between words, namely, in sequences like “that cat” [dat˺ kat˺], and stops at the end of sentences like “I told him to speak” [tə spiːk˺]. In the second phase of the experiment, one half in each group was given a different task. The first group heard recorded versions of phase 1 sentences and before reading them out loud, counted up to five in their L1. Stimuli for imitation contained no release in the contexts under scrutiny. The other half had to watch a video explaining the phenomenon of unreleased stops with a production of phase-two expressions propped up by hand gestures. They were then asked to re-read the sentences given in phase 1. Based on these results the current study makes recommendations about what working environment should be prioritized in pronunciation teaching both in class and online (Kroger et al. 2010), and suggests ways to assess students and visually keep track of their progress.

The article presents a systematic view of the issue of „new life in Christ” from the perspective of dogmatic theology. In the context of Anti-Pelagian resolutions and decisions of the Council of Trent about the predisposing grace, Christological foundation of the idea of new life is indicated (Christ – the new Adam, incarnation as an ontological basis of the mediation of Christ). Then, the idea of “new life” focuses mainly on the participation of a human being (through grace) in the relationship, in which the humanity of Christ participates by virtue of the hypostatic union. This is the basis for the action of a human being cooperating with God’s grace, which at the same time generates a process ending in the divinization.

Horatian Imitation in Jan Kochanowski’s Latin PoetryThe aim of this study is to show how Kochanowski imitated Horace in various ways and at different levels of his poetry. As to this moment, the matter has been discussed, mainly in regard to the Lyricorum libellus, by Zofia Głombiowska and Józef Budzyński. In this paper, the author briefly summarises their statements and comments upon them expressing her own view. She also mentions some other publications dealing with the Horatianism of the Polish poet to a lesser degree. The text is divided into four sections. In the first one, the author makes a brief comparison between Kochanowski and Petrarca in the context of their mental kinship with Horace that resulted in poetry which is “Horatian” not only in terms of the verba but also some ideas. The second section is devoted to the Horatianism of Kochanowski’s collection of odes (Lyricorum libellus). The author begins with a brief summary of the previously mentioned scholars’ views. She also demonstrates that some of these views may oversimplify the question of Horatian imitation in case of at least several of Kochanowski’s poems. To illustrate this, she presents an analysis of ode XI (In equum) in the context of its Horatian models; the conclusion is that in this poem, as well as in the entire collection, Kochanowski imitates Horace in a sophisticated and polyphonic way. The third part of the text, after a brief mention of the “loci Horatiani” in Kochanowski’s elegies, shows the interplay of ideas between Horatian poetry and Kochanowski’s Elegy III 1. The author puts emphasis on the fact that Kochanowski adapted some of the elegiac themes to the Horatian rhetoric. Concluding her disquisition, the author argues that Kochanowski’s Horatian imitation is neither superficial nor confined to the imitation verborum, but reaches deep in the structures of Horace’s poetry.

However, taking into account the highly dynamic and substantially hostile environment in those sectors, innovation may often not be the best strategic choice for market entry. In fact, the business practice confirms the extensive utilization of imitation strategy by technology entrepreneurs Meanwhile, the literature on entrepreneurship focuses almost exclusively on original innovators, underestimating the importance of imitation in the growth process and indicating shortage of research on imitative activities of entrepreneurs. Therefore this article presents discussion on the applicability of entrepreneurial orientation to imitators from the high-tech industries.

Based on the assumption that memetics is not a popular science among musicians, both practitioners and teachers, the analysis undertaken in this text is an attempt to reflect memetic practice in the methods of the musical education developed by Zoltan Kodály, Carl Orff, Émile Jaques-Dalcroze and Edwin Gordon. It is also an offer for educators who are looking for new inspiration to work with children, either in music or general education.

Opis:
This paper seeks to describe the imitation of Platonic dialogues in the aspect of their literary form recognized in Cicero’s De oratore. It requires a presentation of selected polemical interpretations regarding distinct traits of Platonic dialogue as well as taking sides in the matter. The first part of the paper presents G. Zoll’s interpretation of the Platonic dialogue, who in his dissertation on literary form of Ciceronian dialogues labels De oratore the ‘most Platonic’ of his dialogues. In his interpretation, he follows Cicero's way of understanding the features of Plato's masterpieces. Cicero considered the Platonic dialogue to be, first of all, a written tribute paid to the late master by his thankful disciple and, secondly, a text, whose aim is to present a pedagogic situation and to guide its readers. In the second part of the paper an analysis on the double pedagogic situation of De oratore is carried out. In the pedagogic situation presented in the dialogue the role of the master is played by Crassus, while Sulpicius and Cotta are placed on the position of his disciples. This ‘inner’ situation is reflected by the ‘outer’ one, which is evoked on the level of the narrator-author and implied reader. Special attention is paid to various means of building the master’s authority and of enhancing narrator’s importance. The third part of the paper presents briefly opinions of L. Edelstein and P. Plass, who consider Plato’s anonymity to be the most meaningful trait of his works. These commentators stress the presence of aversion towards sophists and speakers of poetical tradition, who usurp the role of the master. This aversion was vividly displayed in many dialogues. According to the mentioned scholars, pedagogy of the Platonic dialogue is different from the ancient model pedagogy, and therefore qualitatively different from Cicero’s pedagogy expressed in De oratore. This confrontation of contagious interpretations of Platonic dialogue facilitates the reevaluation of Cicero’s imitation of Plato’s dialogues.

In this paper, Sacred Art is examined as an imitation of historia. Historia interprets historical human events as empirical, material and real while seeking to understand their moral and spiritual significance. It is from historia that sacred art can be understood, where Christ and the saints are portrayed in the integrity of their human natures united to symbols representing Divinity or grace in order to present a visual/contemplative narrative. Mortimer Adler rightly sees that the vision of the beautiful is inherently contemplative, thus sacred iconography provides a language that can form the common sense of men and women.

The principles in the study of the triad: the language – custom – community Studies of the triad language – custom – community is a synthesis of two parallel research traditions: research centre of Łódź, which is known from studies of the custom – language relationship and research centre o Zielona Góra, famous from its studies on the communitylangugae relationship. In these studies, the starting point for all kinds of considerations are questions about language and the way it is used. Therefore, language is considered as a social tool, cultural storage, a certificate of civilizational changes, track of time and space. Custom and community, however, indicate the attitude of research and define the order of the auxiliary sciences within such language studies. It is very important to remember that one should speak about the custom both in community and individual sense every time when there is a repetition or imitation of the behavior and actions caused by identical communicative needs. That repetition and imitation manifests on all planes or layers of texts: from word formation, the phraseology and syntax, to the genre; it also addresses the functional behavior, fashions and stylistic treatments.

In the light of Schumpeter’s pioneering vision of economic evolution the innovations and innovative entrepreneurs play a fundamental role in the economic development. However, imitations and producers-imitators are essential in diffusing and adapting innovations into the economic exchange processes. In this context the aim of the paper is to model and analyse some properties of imitative mechanisms appearing within the economic evolution. Innovative and imitative mechanisms defined in Hurwicz’s conceptual apparatus are analysed in the economy determined by the use of topological tools usually applied in the general equilibrium theory. As a result it is shown that, in the economy under study, imitative mechanisms are the reasons for and the consequences of innovative mechanisms as well as that the innovative and imitative processes can coexist in the framework of the same innovative mechanism. Moreover it is proven that under some assumptions equilibrium in the economic system analysed can be obtained as a consequence of either of an innovative or an imitative mechanism.

The medallions devoted to Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Ribera are a major collection of texts within Gustaw Herling-Grudziński’s entire output. Through them, he proved that he was able to write a moving text about painting while avoiding both the academic tone and flaunting his knowledge, as well as the dangers of ekphrasis transforming too often into irksome detailed inventories of the elements of a painter’s presentation. The decision to refer to these texts as medallions was equally a genological concept and a clever hedge, and a starting point for a discussion on the ambiguity of the very notion of a medallion. Herling-Grudziński would not have been himself if he had abandoned autobiographical reflections. When considering artists and their works ‘from aside’, he multiplied assumptions, proposed apocryphal versions of some biographical threads, and formulated bold unverifiable hypotheses – this was because he sided with a literary story, not an academic discourse.

Imitation is an important factor in the moral development of the human person. Taking on the function of an example or model for others and the corresponding actions of the imitators who conform to those of the external model may be interpreted as an attitude of solidarity. This specific kind of love and service to others obliges people to involvement for the sake of the common good, for the well-being of all and everyone. An important element of this commitment is exhibiting in one’s own behavior authentic values, which take on the stature of an exemplar or model for others. In that way, moral exemplarism is a kind of contribution to the well-being of others and to the common good, as it is a call to participate in the values interiorized by the model. The imitator’s attitude can also be seen as one of solidarity, through which he is able to properly assess the values of the models, and follow only the real ones. In this manner, he can become a responsible participant in society. Openness towards models is a sign of an active presence in community life, which builds up the richness of its members.

Among all Plutarch’s Lives of men that lived after IV B.C., the biography of Demetrius Poliorcetes contains the most references to Alexander the Great. It is noteworthy that references to this figure in comparison to other Plutarchean biographies occur in greater numbers and in various contexts. The article is an attempt to demonstrate that the references to Alexander the Great played an important role in the construction of the Plutarch’s Life of Demetrius. Thus their purpose was to portrayal Poliorcetes as a failed imitator of famous Macedonian king. The considerations presented in the article can be used as an argument for changing the image of Demetrius in scholarly literature.

It would not be much of an exaggeration to say that the notion of ecological and social embeddedness is one of the most exploited philosophical ideas these days, both in the academia and beyond. The most troublesome about the overall trend is that many proponents of the idea of social embeddedness simplistically consider selfhood as a form of aberration which merely provides vindication for inequality and violence. In this paper, instead of attacking the problem of the individual versus the collective head-on, I approach it by way of a critique of Stephen Turner’s repudiation of transcendental collectivism (Turner, 1994; Turner, 2010). According to Turner, transcendental entities, such as tacit knowledge, presuppositions, or traditions, should be altogether removed from explanatory schemata in the social sciences. I believe that Turner’s razor cuts too deep and the rejection of implicit framing is at best premature. Against the background of the identified shortcomings of Turner’s model of interactive learning, I track the interrelations between social development and the development of the self with an eye to showing that the relationship between individual selves and social reality is an extremely complex and multifactorial matter which we cannot hope to navigate without a proper transcendental frame. The frame is what mediates the relationship between the individual and the collective.

Animals learn across the imitation and the observation of behaviour both representatives of their own sort as and other sort, eg. the man, and the trial method and errors – „the concrete thinking”. Observations show that there, where this is inadequate to dissolving of the problem, try to keep impromptu logical, similarly if this was made by the man, thinking abstractly. The statement so that with the thought and have the consciousness is not groundless anthropomorphism.

Opis:
Jednym z najstarszych sposobów ukazywania praktycznej realizacji powołania do świętości jest naśladowanie Chrystusa. W przeszłości próbowano wykorzystać tę ideę, poszerzoną o naśladowanie wzorów ludzkich, także w teologicznomoralnej refleksji nad procesem doskonalenia i uświęcenia człowieka. Takie przedstawienie podkreśla istotne cechy moralności chrześcijańskiej, a zwłaszcza jej charakter religijny, personalistyczny i społeczny, a zarazem wykazuje błąd ujęć skrajnie autonomicznych oraz skrajnej heteronomii.
One of the oldest ways of showing the practical realization of a call to holiness is the imitation of Christ. In the past this idea, with additional role models included, was also used in the moral theological reflection on human development and sanctification. However, those attempts found it difficult to define the subject of imitation as well as imitation itself. Also today, with some reservations, the idea of imitation can be used for a methodical presentation of the Christian vocation to holiness and of concrete ways how this vocation can be realized. When taken together with the biblical category of the vocation and of the gift, this idea allows to present Christian moral life in a synthetic way and can be the reference point for specific moral obligations. However, when using the category of imitation in the correct presentation of a call to holiness, correct terms are needed as well as an understanding of the vocation as found in Revelation and in particular and modern behavioural sciences. Such a presentation would emphasize important features of Christian morality, especially its religious, personalistic and social character, and would manifest misconceptions of both extreme autonomy and extreme heteronomy.

The article discusses the production of costume jewellery in the first half of the 20th century. During this period, the jewellery made of less expensive materials has undergone a revolution in terms of its function. In the 20th century, the adornments ceased to be only imitations of precious gems and gradually gained their own identity. Promoted by Coco Chanel and, later on, by other French fashion designers, costume jewellery has become an independent genre of body ornament. Due to its lower production costs, designers could experiment with various materials, giving free rein to artistic imagination. Costume jewellery was often designed by artists previously professionally associated with leading jewellery houses offering traditional jewellery. At the same time, the artists who later on worked in well-known jewellery companies, had been collecting their first experiences by designing costume jewellery. The two jewellery worlds constantly influenced each other, provoking themselves to develop. This trend was particularly noticeable in the USA where the production of costume jewellery has been a very important industry since the beginning of the 20th century.

Identifying trends in network worm distribution, finding the factors that influence the spread of the Internet worm will help to identify the effective preventive and precautionary measures to prevent epidemics of malicious software. To solve the problem of the development of advanced security mechanisms against network worms, different approaches to modeling the spreading of worms have been studied. Deterministic models of propagation of computer viruses in a heterogeneous network, taking into account its topological and architectural features have been analyzed and improved. Agent-based model of network worm propagation have been developed. Simulated model is based on epidemic approach to modeling. SAIDR structure of agent-based model has been used for simulation of malicious software of “network worm” type. A comparative study of developed mathematical models has been conducted. Comparative graphs of the dependence of the infected nodes number on the time of the computer system functioning in the propagation of the epidemic have been built. Research carried out by the example of the Code Red worm propagation.

The study aimed to verify whether the chameleon effect can be a used as an effective technique of stereotype modification. It has already been shown that individuals whose behaviors were mimicked showed an increased positive disposition as well as readiness to help not only the mimicker but also other people – and, in general, this seems to be an effective tool of social influence. Persons who adjust their behaviors start to act cooperatively. The pilot study presented here, run as a natural experiment, aimed to employ the chameleon effect in order to modify the stereotype of nonbelievers as perceived by participants declaring themselves to be believers. The results showed that even though mimicry positively influenced the perception of the stereotyped group, the scope of the modification was somewhat patchy. This means that the mechanism can be effectively applied as a means for the modification of stereotypes and prejudices within certain limits. Since this is one of the first studies venturing to explore this area, further work is necessary to delineate the abovementioned limits and the applicability of the measures that we discuss in the final part of this paper.

Opis:
The article begins with a short presentation of an interesting semantics concerning the notion of sense from Jean Grondin’s book Du sens de la vie. Essai philosophique. The author singles out four aspects of sense: directional, semantic (the issue of lingual meaning and values), sensous/ sensory (connected with taste, sensus communis) and reflective (connected with the wisdom to judge rightly). Grondin suggests considering the issue of the sense of life not as something added, imposed to life (the constructivist perspective) but rather as something to be discovered, or read from within our experience. In the context the most important question about the sense of education has been posed. The main conclusions of the text are as follows. Contemporary education seems to be reduced to different forms: techno-instrumental, moralizing or ideological, aesthetic “French-polished” and bureaucratically statistical. However, hermeneutics can still provide a crucial inspiration for modern education. The hermeneutic rehabilitation of taste in its sense of (re)cognition, savoring (relishing) and understanding of things needs to be (re)discovered within education. It seems that the modern tendency to reduce human reality and human experience to a narrow area of specialisation, might be overcome by a hermeneutic invitation to see things in a wider, non-generalised, horizon. Reducing the sense of education to one of the aspects mentioned by Grondin means to make education something perhaps useful, effective, attractive because of the ‘ends and means’ technology, but at the same time senseless and lacking life, spirit, inspiration and taste. The sense of education is to be uncovered/ discovered and not merely imposed and then assimilated. However, education needs – paradoxically – a kind of repetition and imitation comparable to the experience full of listening to the sounds and words in the process of uttering something. It is not the same as the reproduction or duplication of content. That is why in education the interpreter’s fine inner ear is needed. It is needed not in order to replace the content with something elusive, but rather to regain – thanks to this sensual elusiveness – a sense of the content and its voice. The importance of the voice is that in listening out for it an encounter with something different from our own particularity is possible.

This pilot experimental study pursues a number of goals. Firstly, it aims to assess the phonetic attainment of selected English vowels among twelve Polish students of English philology after one term of intensive online pronunciation training in pandemic conditions. Secondly, it looks at potential differences between production outcomes in two experimental contexts, that is, reading and imitation. Finally, it seeks to determine if there is any correlation between musicality and target attainment with a view to identifying a broader scope for potential future research questions. For this purpose, recorded samples of read and imitated English words containing vowels in a uniform context /h_d/ were assessed by six raters using a 5-point Likert scale. The results, including those of an online musicality test, were analysed and subjected to statistical testing. The majority of total scores exceed the assumed acceptability benchmark of 50%. The study yielded a number of unexpected results. Firstly, female participants performed significantly better than male ones in the reading experiment, but not in imitation. Secondly, a stronger correlation was found between the reading results and musicality than between imitation results and musicality.

It also analyses the look of the particular locations in GTA: San Adreas, Max Payne 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and TES: Skyrim games. In the conclusion, the author points to the potential usefulness of the possible worlds’ theory which, to some extent, bonds the highlighted levels of virtual reality, the creation of the depicted world and the categories of interactivity and mimicry.
