    Opis:
    In this paper we present the horizontal lift of a symmetric affine connection with respect to another affine connection to the bundle of volume forms \(\mathcal{V}\) and give formulas for its curvature tensor, Ricci tensor and the scalar curvature. Next, we give some properties of the horizontally lifted vector fields and certain infinitesimal transformations. At the end, we consider some substructures of a \(F(3, 1)\)-structure on \(\mathcal{V}\).

    Opis:
    Th e article analyses the history and importance of the worship of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the period of 1918-1939. It presents the role of the worship not only on the religious ground but also in the reconstruction of Polish statehood and in the forming of social unity. Th e discussed events of the 1920’s – especially the devotion of people and the Country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Jasna Góra Monastery on 27 July 1920, the act of the devotion of the whole Country offi ciated in the Little Market Square in Cracow on 3 June 1921, and the devotion of Silesia on 9 September 1923 – show that the worship of the Sacred Herat of Jesus and the devotion of the faithful, is strictly integrated with the life of the nation in the reborn Poland. Th ey also had their role in the creation of the religious foundation for the restoration of the united national life, guiding its development, combining strongly with patriotic ideas. On the other hand in the 1930’s, when the term enthronement became more commonly used, the worship of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was strongly permeating the social life. Th e enthronement, the theological meaning of which is described in a special way by Fr. Józef Andrasz in “Posłaniec Serca Jezusowego”, was practiced fi rst of all by families, but also by various institutions responsible for organization of social and national life. Th e Enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus supported and encouraged by Diocesan bishops would be an answer to both, communism and western liberalism. The symbolic token of the worship becomes the monument of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Poznań, with golden heart, a votive off ering from the Poles for the independent Country.

    The paper is dedicated to political sociology – its genealogy, status as a scientific discipline, its functions, agenda and methodological scope. The discussion of these issues is tuned towards didactic goals, facilitating students’ orienteering in the problematic, functions and requirements of political sociology as a part of political sciences. The paper consists of three parts. The first part, entitled „The origins and genaology of sociology political”, emphasizes historical continuity of reflection pertaining social conditions of politics. There, a project of scientist sociology and basing on its critiqs projects of Verstehen sociology and interpretative sociology are presented as well. It is also stressed that critical reflection over political relations and their social context involves an intermingling of emprical and normative aspects. The second part of the paper, enitled, „Debates and controversies pertaining contemporary political sociology”, outlines major axes differentiating positions taken by sociologists representing dominant methodological streams within this discipline of science nowadays. These axes are crystallized around a few issues that raise most controversies, incuding 1) an issue of institutional positioning of political sociology; 2) an issue of the subject matter of this discipline of science, and 3) an issue of the relationship between the discipline and its subject matter. The third part of the paper, entitled „An overview of major methodological conceptions and problems in contemporary political sociology”, discusses in some detail the main methodological approaches within the discipline as well as a tendency to broaden both the horizon of issues covered by contemporary political sociology and increase the scope of analytical approaches to research them. These tendencies are cliamed to result inter alia from empirical and theoretical insights provided by research into Europeanization and globalization. Subsequently, a basic structure of a course in political sociology is presented, leading analytical categories to be used while teaching the course are specified, and objectives inscribed in the university-level course of this discipline are listed.

    All of the European countries have been affected by a demographic crisis: European societies are “graying” while not enough children are born. The European labour markets, pension systems, sectors of health care and social services are strained. Most of the European countries have already experienced increased migratory flows – either as in- or as out-migration. Most of in-migration comes to Europe from sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East. The annual ratio of migration to Europe is already higher than the one registered for the United States. Europe is irrevocably turning into a continent of migrants. So far, different European states and societies have reacted differently to the experience of the demographic crisis and migration. Some of the reactions involved stricter policing and social violence. The extreme right has earned some political capital playing the card of anti-immigrant protest. It is clear that institutional and social problems related to the demographic and migratory phenomena are likely to be aggravated in the future if no common European policies are designed and adopted. Taking into account the fact that internal borders between EU member-states are progressively lifted, the demographicmigration issues are bound to spill over from one European country to another. The currently existing differentiation in the sphere of citizenship, welfare and labour market will reinforce the spill-over trends. On the other hand, in a foreseeable future Europe will need more and more migrants to make up for the demographic implosion it faces. Therefore, a common migration policy is necessary from this point of view as well. Moreover, the migration policy must be complemented with a new policy of migrant integration since migrants that Europe needs should rather be perceived as its permanent citizens rather than temporary guest-workers. The construction of such common policies is difficult. To be effective, they need to be based upon both a broad political consensus among elites and on a broad social contract undersigned by the European public opinion and migrants as well.

    The paper is dedicated to an aspect of territorial marketing which is called region branding. It focuses on the branding of the lubelskie voivodship. The Lubelskie is clas-sified in the public discourse as one of the „inherently backward” regions in Eastern Poland. As such, it has been subject to discursive stigmatization and institutional dis-crimination. Its case exemplifies processes of orientalism that were triggered in the country after the systemic change and – concerning the regions – reinforced after the institutionalization of new „big” regions in 1999. In the paper, the official strategy of branding Lubelskie is analyzed. The aim is to identify the ways in which the stigma of its „eastern backwardness” is treated in order to produce a new, positive and attractive image of this region to be promoted and sold as its competitive brand.

    The paper focuses on the involvement of Polish migrants in the Scottish Independence Referendum of 2014. Based on the available evidence, it argues that political apathy and the alienation of migrants in their receiving countries should not be taken for granted. Exempli-fied by the active stance of the “Scottish” Poles, the paper demonstrates that the migrant groups’ political participation may depend on a country-specific nexus of factors to do with discursive construction of both their economic interests and civic belonging.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest dyskusji nad próbami reinterpretacji przyczyn i skutków stanu permanentnego niedorozwoju społeczno-gospodarczego regionów peryferyjnych w Europie na przykładzie włoskiego Mezzogiorno. Mezzogiorno, powszechnie przedstawiane jako monolityczny paradygmat nieudanej modernizacji, ulega dekonstrukcji poznawczej w obliczu dwutorowo biegnącego strumienia analiz i wypowiedzi. Ideologicznie nasycony dyskurs polityczny wywodzący się z separatystycznej północy wzmacnia i podkreśla obraz Południa jako bezprawnego konsumenta zasobów państwa włoskiego produkowanych na Północy. Odpowiedzią jest równie ideologicznie motywowany dyskurs elit akademickich i kulturowych Południa, którego celem jest wytworzenie nowego, pozytywnego obrazu Południa jako przestrzeni alternatywnej dla północnego egoizmu i materializmu, przestrzeni-pomostu między Europą a resztą nieatlantyckiego świata. W tym kontekście coraz silniej zaznacza swoja obecność dyskurs nauk społecznych, który w rozważaniach na temat warunków rozwoju społeczno-ekonomicznego regionów peryferyjnych rezygnuje z jednostronnego podejścia neoliberalnego, zwraca się natomiast ku wieloaspektowym analizom warunków instytucjonalnych jako pierwotnemu źródłu (wadliwej) dynamiki społeczno-ekonomicznej. Dyskusja wokół włoskiego Mezzogiorno moża stanowić przy tym użyteczny punkt orientacyjnych dla debaty nad modelem polityki prorozwojowej w Polsce, szczególnie w odniesieniu do regionów peryferyjnych i zacofanych.
    The article focuses on the discussion over attempts to re-interpret causes and effects of the state of permanent socio-economic under-development of peripheral regions in Europe invoking Italian Mezzogiorno as a case. Mezzogiorno widely held to be a monolith paradigm of unsuccessful modernization, is being cognitively deconstructed in the face of a two-way running stream of analyses and enunciations. Ideologically imbued political discourse originating in the separatist North reinforces and emphasizes an image of South as a lawless consumer of the Italian state’s resources produced in the North. As a response arises an equally ideologically motivated discourse of academic and cultural elites of the South, whose aims to produce a new, positive image of the South as a space alternative to northern egoism and materialism, a space bridging Europe and the rest of non-Atlantic world. In this context, a discourse of social sciences ever stronger marks its presence; considering conditions of socio-economic development of peripheral regions it forfeits a unidimensional neoliberal approach and instead turns to multidimensional analyses of institutional environment as a primary source of socio-economic dynamics. The debate surrounding Italian Mezzogiorno may constitute at the same time a useful vantage point for a debate over the Polish model of development, especially with regard to peripheral and backward regions in Poland.

    The paper is focused on the introduction and operation of a novel model of EU-induced structure of governance networks-composed of public administration, business and civil society actors. It takes up a case of institutional structures to manage EU structural funds in Poland. In particular, the role of social partners, i.e. representatives of non-governmental organizations in the European Regional Development Fund-related region-level and nation-level steering and monitoring committees is analyzed. Following a brief exposition of regionalization principles, arrangement for regional development policy in Poland and changes induced by the country’s accession to the EU, legal and institutional frameworks for the inclusion of social partners in the committees responsible for the programming, management and evaluation of the EuropeanRegional Development Fund are scrutinized. Empirical evidence of social partners’ participation in the proceedings of such selected committees is introduced and analyzed. Opportunities, challenges and dilemmas of civil society actors faced with new modes of governance are discussed.

    The paper is focused on migration as one of the major issues that determine relations, including accession negotiations, between the European Union and Turkey. In spite of the dominant anti-Turkish discourse across the EU, the Author points out several historical and current phenomena that have resulted in building a complex migration system between the two geographical areas. The migration flows within the migration system are shown to have occurred in both directions. Both advantages and disadvantages of the flows are selectively discussed. Finally, based on demographic forecasts, economic prognoses and current migration statistics in Europe, the paper hypothesizes that in the future the much feared inflows of the Turks to the EU might be balanced, if not surpassed, by outflows of both the former Turkish immigrants and “native” Europeans from Europe to Turkey.

    The paper explores some novel ways to use the concept of the learning region in Poland, following a change of the regional policy paradigm in the country. The concept of the learning region has been part of the European Union’s public policy resources since the early 1990s. Commonly, it is applied across EU Member States, including Poland, in the shape of regional innovation systems (RIS) and cluster-building instruments. It is argued in the paper that there are more ways to take advantage of this concept at the regional level, when focusing on the sphere of regional governance, which is related to the territorial approach recently introduced in the policy of local and regional development.

    Odnosząc się do polskiej regionalizacji z perspektywy integracji europejskiej i globalizacji, artykuł proponuje model analizy regionu oparty na myśli teoretycznej Pierre'a Bourdieu i Anssi Paasiego. Kluczowe kategorie modelu to region jako pole społeczne nowej generacji, wytwarzany w jego obrębie habitus regionalny oraz imago regionis nowa forma tożsamości regionalnej. Główny proces analizowany za pośrednictwem modelu to wielofazowa instytucjonalizacja regionu, w wyniku której zyskuje on swoistą tożsamość. Tożsamość ta funkcjonuje z jednej strony w wymiarze marketingu terytorialnego, z drugiej zaś wchodzi w interakcję ze wzorami mentalnymi i behawioralnymi w ramach regionalnego habitusu, warunkując potencjał adaptacyjny i innowacyjny regionalnej społeczności. Proponowane podejście z jednej strony pozwala ujmować region w perspektywie zmiany globalnej, z drugiej zaś strony zwraca uwagę na możliwość lokalnej modyfikacji warunków, w których się ona dokonuje. Podtrzymując znaczenie czynników społeczno-kulturowych w analizie regionu, jednocześnie umożliwia wyjście poza wąsko pojętą perspektywę tożsamości kulturowej, która dominuje w socjologicznie zorientowanych badaniach nad regionami.
    Referring to the Polish regionalization from the perspective of European integration and globalization, the paper proposes a model of regional analysis based on theoretical conceptions of Pierre Bourdieu and Anssi Paasi. Region as a social field of new generation, regional habitus constructed within it and an imago regionis as a new type of regional identity are the key concepts of the proposed model. Multi-stage institutionalization of region, which results in an idiosyncratic regional identity, is the main process analysed by means of the model. The identity functions on the one hand at the level of territorial marketing, on the other it interacts with mental and behavioural patterns constitutive of regional habitus, conditioning adaptive and innovative potential of regional communities. The proposed approach enables to see region in the perspective of global change on the one hand, while on the other, it draws attention to possibilities of local modification of the conditions, within which it is implemented. While it sustains the weight of socio-cultural factors in regional analyses, at the same time it makes it possible to reach beyond narrowly conceived perspective of cultural identity, dominant in sociologically minded studies of regions.

    The paper is focused on the principles of partnership and participation in rural areas in contemporary Poland. The studied case involves local action groups (LAGs) estab-lished in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in the period 2007–2013. Based on national and European legal frameworks that regulate the establishment and functioning of the LAGs, these organizations are required to implement the principles of partnership and participation as far as their structures and functions are concerned. The principle of partnership is premised, inter alia, on a specific obligation to include representatives of three sectors – public, economic and social – in the LAGs’ membership. The principle of participation means, among others, that the LAGs are expected to engage in the active recruitment of new members. In the paper the implementation of both of the principles is evaluated by analyzing the LAGs’ membership structures and their criteria of access to membership.

    The notion of intersectoral partnership is understood in the paper in terms of vol-untary and institutionalized cooperation between stakeholders representing public, private and civic sectors. The idea of this kind of partnership is related to new ap-proaches to regional and local development in the European Union. One of the main fields in which these approaches are implemented is the field of rural areas develop-ment, where partnerships take the form of Local Action Groups (LAGs). The paper discusses selected aspects of the partnerships’ functioning, basing on an analysis of opinions expressed by their individual members in the Sub-Carpathian region.

    The paper discusses the development of gated and guarded housing estates in Poland's capital, Warsaw. It contains a presentation of recent empirical findings based on a series of field research carried out since the 1990s in Warsaw, with a special focus on its largest residential district of Ursynow. Detailed mappings of the researched housing estates are included, which evidence their rapid spread in the district. An attempt at classifying the housing estates according to different clusters of their physical design is made. A functional analysis of their physical features is carried out against the background of a global discourse of in/security which is presumed to play a major role in the development of contemporary cities. However, several local factors, which have a bearing on gating the city of Warsaw, are also reflected upon.

    Artykuł podejmuje temat rozwoju strzeżonych i grodzonych form budownictwa mieszkaniowego w Warszawie. Prezentujemy w nim omówienie oraz wybrane rezultaty badań empirycznych prowadzonych od lat 90. XX w. w Warszawie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jej największej dzielnicy mieszkaniowej, czyli Ursynowa. Integralną część artykułu stanowi mapa dokumentująca rozprzestrzenianie się badanych osiedli na terenie tej dzielnicy. Dążąc do systematyzacji wiedzy na temat badanego zjawiska, przedstawiamy m.in., ogólną typologię osiedli strzeżonych i grodzonych ze względu na różne konfiguracje ich cech fizycznych. Dokonujemy także analizy funkcjonalnej tych cech w odniesieniu do globalnego dyskursu nie/bezpieczeństwa, który stanowi naszym zdaniem jeden z najważniejszych czynników w rozwoju współczesnych miast. Wskazujemy jednak w tym tekście również na szereg lokalnych czynników wywierających wpływ na proces „grodzenia miasta” w Warszawie.

    The paper aims at evaluating the status of horizontal integration of farmers in Lublin region and gathering feedback from agricultural producers regarding barriers to and chances of cooperation within groups of agricultural producers. The study was based on public statistics derived from the Central Statistical Office, data from the Marshal’s Office of Lublin Region and outcomes of surveys carried out among 104 farm managers in Lublin region. The studies indicate that in 2016 only 33 groups of agricultural producers were in operation in Lublin region, which accounted for as little as 2.5% of their total number in Poland. The surveys show that, despite low advancement of horizontal integration of farmers, they are aware of related benefits. What they consider most significant is increased reliability of product sales, improved farm competitiveness, brand creation and lower business risk. In addition, studies have identified a number of barriers preventing the integration of farmers. Such barriers, mentioned by managers of farms covered by the survey, most often included fear of conflict, loss of the power of making independent decisions, mutual competition and lack of preparation for operating within a larger organisation.
    Celem pracy jest ocena stanu integracji poziomej rolników w województwie lubelskim oraz poznanie opinii producentów rolnych na temat barier i szans współpracy w ramach grup producentów rolnych. W opracowaniu wykorzystano dane statystyki publicznej GUS, dane Urzędu Marszałkowskiego Województwa Lubelskiego, a także wyniki badań ankietowych realizowanych wśród 104 kierowników gospodarstw rolnych z województwa lubelskiego. Z badań wynika, że w 2016 r. w województwie lubelskim funkcjonowały zaledwie 33 grupy producentów rolnych, co stanowiło 2,5% ogólnej ich liczby w Polsce. Badania ankietowe wskazują, że pomimo niskiego stopnia zaawansowania integracji poziomej rolników, są oni świadomi korzyści, jakie jej towarzyszą. Najistotniejsze z nich to: pewniejszy zbyt produktów, poprawa konkurencyjności gospodarstwa rolnego, tworzenie marki, mniejsze ryzyko działalności. Badania wykazały również, że istnieje szereg barier, które utrudniają integrowanie się rolników. Wśród nich kierownicy badanych gospodarstw rolnych wymieniali najczęściej obawy przed konfliktami, utratą samodzielności decyzyjnej, wzajemną rywalizacją oraz brak przygotowania do działania w większej organizacji.
