Opis:
Nowadays, the most popular novel by De Amicis is his unique text known in Poland. Since 1906 its translation by Maria Konopnicka has had countless reeditions, but it was brought into Polish even before: in 1887 by Helena Wilczyńska (maiden name: Russocka), in 1899 by Józef Nestorowicz, in 1890 by Maria Obrąpalska (maiden name: Siemiradzka), and later by Leon Sternklar (1937), by J. Drzewiecka (1938) and by Witold Zechenter (1947). The success of the version by Konopnicka is analysed in the context of previous and further translations. It reflects personal sensibility of the translator towards misery and injustice, expressed in her writings. It also testifies her linguistic ability and creativity which makes the text more convincing and attractive to the reader in comparison to the original version.

la Polonia e i polacchi nella letteratura italiana moderna
il mito e l’archetipo in letteratura,
Opis:
The paper offers a contextual reflection on how the ‘Polish refugee’ figure is rendered in two examples of 19 th - and 20 th -century Italian literature. The paper opens with a brief discussion of the term ‘myth’ and its meanings in the age of Digital Humanities and proceeds to outline the literary and non-literary sources of the European myth of Poles as victims of foreign violence. Having given some attention to Edmondo de Amicis’s early poems addressing the 1863 uprising in Poland, the argument then focuses on his short story ‘Profughi polacchi’ (1863) as establishing the pattern of representing Polish emigrants in modern literature. Subsequently, the ways in which this narrative pattern changes in Edoardo Albinati’s novel "Polacco lavatore di vetri" (1998) are analysed to show that the idealised vision of the ‘refugee’ collapses. In conclusion, the dynamics of the presence and productivity of the myth in literature and in journalism are emphasised, and the differences in the handling of the myth in these two forms of writing are highlighted.

Opis:
The subject matter of this paper is the language and stylistics of selected fragments of „Serce” (“Heart”), a children’s novel by Edmondo de Amicisa in the 19th-century translation into Polish by Maria Konopnicka. With reference to selected translation theories, the conducted analysis covers the strategy adopted by the translator, that is one consisting in familiarising the Polish reader with foreign realities while preserving their originality and “foreignness” (i.e. the simultaneous “domestication” and “foreignisation”). This determines the faithfulness and up-to-dateness of her translation, re-editions of which have been published to this day as it is appreciated for its rich language and accurate rendition of the original style. Due to the similarity to her own writing technique, the translator appropriately refl ects the nature of the work, enriching it with elements of school jargon and colloquial language. Despite the presence of archaisms, Konopnicka’s language has remained comprehensible to the contemporary reader.
