Opis:
The aim of the article is to study the influence of the child characters in Guy Delisle’s graphic stories on the narrative itself. This influence varies from direct and explicit (comments, characters’ actions) to indirect and implicit, when the very form of the narrative is reshaped. Such changes occur when the child character influences the way his or her father, who is allegedly the main character of the story, functions in relation to time and space. The article also focuses on how the child characters in the stories catalyze play with conventions or reflection about the self and about the medium. Sometimes these characters become protagonists  whose perspectives dominate the narrative.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie, w jaki sposób obecność dziecięcych bohaterów w twórczości Guy Delisle’a każdorazowo przesuwa wektor historii, decydując o jej kształcie. Wpływ ten może być bezpośredni – komentarze, działania dzieci, albo pośredni – ten wymiar ogarnia niejako cały kształt opowieści, ponieważ  dzieci decydują o kształcie gospodarowania zarówno czasem, jak i przestrzenią głównego bohatera opowieści – ojca. Zaprezentowane również zostaje, w jaki sposób dzieci w twórczości kanadyjskiego rysownika stają się pretekstem do autotematycznego spojrzenia, zabaw komiksową konwencją, czy też zostają pierwszoplanowymi bohaterami, z perspektywy których budowany jest świat przedstawiony.

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of multicultural-based digital comic media on the social care character of elementary school students. This study used a quantitative research approach with the type of Quasi Experiment. The trial involved 2 classes, namely IVA (control class) and IVB (experiment class) of Brajan State Elementary School, containing 20 students. The independent t-test shows a difference in social-caring character between students who use multicultural-based digital comic media during the learning process and those who do not use multicultural-based digital comic media, with a significance value (p) less than 0.05, which is 0.017. This study concludes that multicultural- based digital comic media is declared effective to be used to improve the social care character of grade IV elementary school students.

En cuanto cuadro dinámico, la figura literaria de la hipotiposis parece concertarse con la propia definición del cómic, sucesión de imágenes generadora de movimiento. Sin embargo, si la hipotiposis es siempre simultáneamente descriptiva y narrativa, no ocurre lo mismo con el cómic, conjunto de descripciones que, por su sucesión, generan narración. De hecho, lo que mejor corresponde a la figura literaria es más bien un dispositivo particular del noveno arte: la incrustación, es decir la inscripción de una o varias viñetas dentro de otra. Automáticamente, la viñeta-marco se convierte en el trasfondo, el decorado de un relato desarrollado en primer plano por las viñetas incrustadas. Este procedimiento de incrustación no es clásico. Lo encontramos en los pioneros, o ente modernos y contemporáneos, que se sirven de él, a ejemplo de la hipotiposis, con fines épicos, o para dar mayor vida a una reconstrucción histórica, o bien para confrontar memoria colectiva y memoria individual, o bien incluso para que proliferen en un mismo tiempo varios espacios y en un mismo espacio tiempos diversos.
As a dynamic picture, the literary figure of hypotyposis seems consistent with the very definition of comics, series of drawings producing motion. However, if hypotyposis is always simultaneously descriptive and narrative, comics are on the contrary sets of descriptions which sequencing produces narration. In fact, a particular device of the ninth art matches more with the literary figure: the insert, that is the inlay of one or more panels within another. Automatically, the inserting panel becomes the background, the setting of a story developed in the foreground by the inserted panels. This device is not classical. It is to be found among the pioneers or the modern and contemporary authors, who use it, like hypotyposis, for epic purposes, or to give more life to a historical re-enactment, to confront collective with individual memory, or also to make several spaces flourish in the same time and several times flourish in the same place.

Fillette, chérie, coquine, doudou… les formes d’adresse constituent un important opérateur discursif des échanges émotionnels. Elles englobent aussi bien l’expression de la tendresse ou, tout simplement, la marque de l’affectivité, que des comportements sociaux et rituels donnant aux individus la possibilité de partager les mêmes expériences. L’objectif de notre étude sera essentiellement d’examiner le contenu sémantique des formes d’adresse mobilisées dans le récit bédéistique, en mettant l’accent sur celles qui font appel aux registres non-standard de la langue. En premier lieu, cette démarche nous permettra de donner quelques pistes de réflexion sur la disposition thématique autour de laquelle se construisent les termes en question. Ensuite, nous tiendrons à repérer et à décrire les traits énonciatifs et pragmatiques caractéristiques d’un discours basé sur la composante affective. Plus précisément, nous essaierons d’analyser les valeurs fonctionnelles et la dimension expressive des formes d’adresse privilégiées par les bandes dessinées contemporaines.
Fillette, chérie, coquine, doudou... the forms of address constitute an important discursive operator of emotional exchanges. Such forms encompass both the expression of tenderness or, quite simply, the mark of affectivity and social and ritual behaviours, giving individuals the possibility of sharing the same experiences. The aim of our study will be primarily to examine the semantic content of the forms of address mobilised in the comic strip story, with an emphasis on those which appeal to non-standard registers of language. First, this approach will allow us to give some paths for reflection on the thematic arrangement around which the terms in question are coined. Next, we will seek to identify and describe the enunciative and pragmatic features of a discourse based on the affective component. More specifically, we will try to analyse the functional values and the expressive dimension of the forms of address favoured by contemporary comics.

The aim of this paper is to present Japanese comics (manga) and cartoons (anime) with sexual content called hentai. I briefly review some history of Japanese art and culture, in which sexuality has always been a legitimate subject for art and which forms the cultural underpinnings of manga. I summarize the erotic themes and visions of manga with sexual content, including female and male homosexuality (yuri, yaoi), heterosexuality (ecchi, bakunyū/kyonyuu), BDSM (kinbari), transvestitism (futanari), children (lolicon, shotakon). In conclusion, I pose the question of the need to adopt the right perspective to understand the often surprising manifestations of Japanese sexuality.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza postaci Conana Edogawy, protagonisty komiksowego cyklu Meitantei Conan autorstwa Gōshō Aoyamy jako wariacji na temat superbohatera. Materiał badawczy, oprócz mangi, stanowią serial animowany będący jej adaptacją oraz powiązane z nim filmy kinowe. Źródło inspiracji dla japońskiego artysty stanowi szeroko pojęta literatura kryminalna, a zwłaszcza opowiadania o Sherlocku Holmesie autorstwa Artura Conana Doyle’a. Analiza zebranego materiału wykazała, że opisywana franczyza ma charakter narracji transmedialnej. Ponadto Aoyama, jak również twórcy animowanych adaptacji komiksu Meitantei Conan, posługuje się transfikcjonalnością. Japoński artysta dzięki połączeniu elementów kryminalnych z superbohaterskimi oraz częściowemu ich sparodiowaniu, stworzył postać „omnipotentnego”, wszechwiedzącego detektywa-superherosa, który jest w stanie rozwiązać każdą zagadkę.
The aim of this paper is a character analysis of Conan Edogawa – the protagonist of Meitantei Conan by Gōshō Aoyama – as a variation of the superhero. The research material includes manga, animated series adaptation and related cinematic films. The broadly understood criminal novel (mostly the Sherlock Holmes cycle by Arthur Conan Doyle) was the source of inspiration for the Japanese artist. The analysis of the collected material demonstrates that the described franchise used a transmedia narration. Both Aoyama and the authors of animated adaptations use transfictionality in their works. With the combined usage of the criminal and superhero elements, the Japanese artist created an omnipotent and omniscient superhero detective who can solve any mystery.

W artykule autor podejmuje próbę spojrzenia na współczesną młodzież z perspektywy jej zaangażowania w działalność świata społecznego komiksu. W pierwszej części tekstu autor opisuje krótko koncepcję światów społecznych w wersji zaproponowanej przez Anselma Straussa. Następnie zastanawia się, w jaki sposób można ją wykorzystać do badań działalności fanów komiksu. W dalszej kolejności autor wskazuje przykłady działań podejmowanych w ramach polskiego świata społecznego komiksu oraz opisuje główne dyskusje, jakie toczą się na jego gruncie. Niniejszy tekst należy traktować jako przyczynek do przyszłych systematycznych badań, zawierający wstępną propozycję zastosowania kategorii światów społecznych oraz rezultaty pierwszych, roboczych obserwacji.
In this article, the author attempts to look at today’s youth from the perspective of its involvement in the social world of comics. First, the author briefly describes the concept of social worlds proposed by Anselm Strauss. In the subsequent passage he tries to answer the question how this concept can be used in order to research activities of comic book fans. Next, the author indicates some examples of activities undertaken within the Polish social world of comics and describes the main discussions, which take place on this field. This text should be seen merely as a contribution to the systematic studies, which includes a preliminary proposal to apply the categories of social worlds and the results of initial, working observations.

Albert Lewis Kanter launched Classic Comics in 1941, a series of comic books that retold classic literature for a young audience. Five of Shakespeare’s celebrated plays appear in the collection. The popularity of Classics Illustrated encouraged Seaboard Publishing to issue a competitive brand, Stories by Famous Authors Illustrated (1949-51), which retold three Shakespearean dramas. Although both these enterprises aimed to reinforce a humanist perspective of education based on Western literature, the classic comics belie a Posthuman aesthetic by presenting Shakespearean characters in scenes and postures that recall Golden Age superheroes. By examining the Shakespearean covers of Classic Illustrated and Stories by Famous Authors, this essay explores how Shakespearean characters are reimagined as Superhuman in strength and power.

In his comic Greetings from Serbia. A Journal in Comics Written During the Conflict in Serbia, Aleksander Zograf’s choice of form is associated with the periodical form of the diary in drawings kept by the author. By means of a series of episodes, Zograf shows selected fragments of daily life in Serbia: the realities of living in a country under sanctions, being bombed by NATO aircraft, and struggling with post-war chaos.A characteristic feature of the anthology Greetings from Serbia. A Journal in Comics Written During the Conflict in Serbia is – in the words of the author – “observation through fragments”. The poetics of the fragment, the autonomization of the individual elements that comprise the open composition, and the breaking up of the plot’s cohesion are all associated with the worldview that emerges from Zograf’s comics. The reality observed turns out to be chaotic, incoherent and irrational. It becomes impossible to fully embrace or provide any overarching sense to the events, and thus fictionalize and express them by means of a traditional narrative form. By choosing the form of the comic book, and abandoning a comprehensive, ordered point of view, the author attempts to describe the whole by means of fragments.

The analysis of the article’s author focuses on the graphic novels The Property by Rutu Modan and We Won’t See Auschwitz by Jérémy Dres. Th e comics discussed deal with similar issues. Both refer to the wartime and postwar fate of Polish Jews, show military history as a factor shaping the family history of multiple generations, and touch upon issues concerning identity, Polish-Jewish relations, and national stereotypes. Through the use of comics, both authors try to preserve pieces of family history while touching upon many far more general and universal issues. Comics prove in this case to be a handy tool in the telling of intertwining histories great and small.

The use of archival photographs of the capital, old postcards, and computer reconstructions using 3D technology increase the realism of the presentation, and provide the effect of intuition, intimacy, and directness. In certain way, “displacement” refers to the change. It is the action of a body that moves from a certain space to another. In addition to its obvious physical implications, in the case of human displacement, there are also great subjective implications. In this way, displacement can be of other orders, as symbolic, metaphysical and mental, we can also consider even maturation as the displacement from one psychic state to another. In this case, the present work aims to analyze the different figurations of the concept of displacement present in the work: Displacement - A travelogue by Lucy Knisley, as well as the affiliation of the work to a narrative tradition perpetrated by authors who take the daily genre and the trip report as a means of subjective construction of reality, both in literature and in comics. In order to do so, will be used authors who studied the writing of female authors, having the travel narrative as a research horizon, such as Sonia Serrano and Miriam Adelman; as well as authors who focus on the specificities of the comic language that, under the aegis of “graphic novel”, engender an aesthetic construction that privileges the autobiographical narrative (Santiago Garcia and Hilarry Chute). We intend to highlight the richness that the comics bring to the symbolic construction of the genre “travel diary/narrative” through its peculiarities of self-representation.

Obwohl der Comic kein neues Unterrichtsmedium darstellt, mangelt es an theoretischen Ansätzen, die sein sprachliches und kulturelles Potenzial näher betrachten würden. Der vorliegende Beitrag versteht sich als Versuch, dieses Forschungsdefizit auszugleichen. Um den Comic als Unterrichtsmedium zu charakterisieren, werden zunächst Überlegungen zu Begriff und Rezeptionsprozess angestellt. Vor diesem Hintergrund sollen die didaktischen Möglichkeiten von Comics im fremdsprachlichen Deutschunterricht in Polen hinterfragt werden.
Pomimo iż komiks nie jest nowym medium dydaktycznym, jego potencjał językowy i kulturowy pozostaje dotychczas jedynie w niewielkim stopniu zbadany. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę uzupełnienia tego deficytu. W celu scharakteryzowania komiksu jako medium punktem wyjścia uczyniono rozważania dotyczące pojęcia komiksu oraz procesu jego percepcji. Na tym tle zanalizowane zostaną możliwości dydaktyczne komiksu w nauczaniu języka niemieckiego jako obcego w Polsce.
Although the comic is not a new didactic medium, there is still a lack of concepts dealing with its linguistic and cultural potential. This article aims to compensate this shortage. In order to characterize the comic as a didactic medium, the concept of comic and the process of comic reception will be considered first. On this background, the didactic potential of comics in German language teaching as a foreign language in Poland will be analyzed.

Napięcie między Związkiem Radzieckim a Stanami Zjednoczonymi, definiujące światowy polityczny krajobraz drugiej połowy dwudziestego wieku, miało swoje wyraźne przełożenie na sposoby postrzegania i kreacji sowieckich bohaterów w ramach amerykańskiej kultury. Pierwszymi podstawowym celem naszego artykułu jest prześledzenie i opisanie funkcjonowania konkretnego motywu – figur Rosjan, w szczególności zaś rosyjskich meta-ludzi w przestrzeni amerykańskiej kultury popularnej, przede wszystkim komiksu główno nurtowego. Kwerenda ta ma w miarę możliwości wykazać podstawowy wymiar historyczny tj. okresy wzrostu i spadku popularności, a nawet całkowitego zaniku poszukiwanej figury. Celem drugim jest analiza sposobów konstrukcji komiksowych bohaterów związanych ze Związkiem Radzieckim i postawienie ich w szerszym kontekście historyczno-kulturowym. Te zabiegi umożliwią z kolei zasygnalizowanie zmieniającej się w czasie konstrukcji, na którą składają się wartości, stereotypy i popkulturowe klisze właściwe dla kultury amerykańskiej. Tym samym mamy nadzieję, że artykuł ten stanie się ważnym przyczynkiem do dalszych badań nad omawianymi zagadnieniami.
The tension between Soviet Union and United States that defined the global political landscape of the second half of the twentieth century, had its clear impact on perceptions and creation of Soviet heroes in the context of American culture. The first and primary goal of our article is to investigate and describe the functioning of a particular theme – Russian characters, especially Russian meta-humans in the area of American popular culture, especially mainstream comics. This inquiry is intended to demonstrate the basic historical dimension, i.e. the periods of growth and decline in popularity, and even the complete disappearance of that theme. The purpose of the second goal is an attempt to analyze the structures of comics characters associated with the Soviet Union and place them in a broader historical and cultural context. These treatments allow to signal changes in time-sensitive structure, which consists of values, stereotypes and pop culture clichés appropriate for the American culture. Thus, we hope that this article will be an important contribution to the further study of these issues.
