Opis:
A theoretical description of bistable donors in polar semiconductors is proposed. The donor states are described within the one-band approximation, which takes into account a finite width and nonparabolicity of the conduction band. The interaction between the defect and the crystal lattice is assumed in the Fröhlich form. For the bistable indium impurity in cadmium fluoride, a coexistence of strongly and weakly localized donor states has been obtained. The calculated energies for both the states and absorption band shape in the 3-eV range are in agreement with experiment.

Opis:
A theoretical description of shallow donor absorption spectra in CdF$\text{}_{2}$ in the infrared region is given. The properties of the stable (Y) and bistable (In) donors are analyzed and quantatively described. It is shown that the bistability of donors and the shape of the infrared absorption band have the same origin, which is the combined effect of electron-LO-phonon coupling, conduction band non-parabolicity and short-range central-cell potential.

Opis:
The influence of the short-range potential and the electron-phonon coupling on the donor spectrum is discussed. It is shown that the attractive short-range potential leads to a formation of a single additional state of s symmetry and with energy lying below a weakly perturbed hydrogen-like spectrum, which includes the 1s level. The new state can be called the 0s state. With decreasing short-range attraction, the energy of this state increases crossing over the hydrogen-like levels and, for weak short-range potential, the 0s state disappears. If the electron-phonon coupling is sufficiently strong, the donor hydrogen-like spectrum is perturbed only in a very narrow region of the leve1 crossing.

The theoretical model, based on the many-band approach, is proposed for the strongly localized donor states in GaAs. The pressure coefficients for the states of A$\text{}_{1}$ and Τ-2 symmetry have been calculated for the donors at the anion and cation sites. The obtained results show that these pressure coefficients are different from the conduction-band pressure coefficients and are dependent on the lattice site occupied by the impurity as well as on the symmetry of the donor states.

The strongly localized one-electron (D$\text{}^{0}$) and two-electron (D¯) donor states are considered with the lattice deformation around the donor center taken into account. For GaAs, the donor energy levels have been calculated as functions of the hydrostatic pressure. The calculated energy positions and pressure coefficients agree with the experimental data. It is shown that the interaction with phonons reduces the probability of radiative transitions between the states of different localization and leads to the metastability of shallow-level donor states with respect to the D¯ state in GaAs and both the states (D$\text{}^{0}$ and D¯) in CdF$\text{}_{2}$.

Opis:
A theoretical quantitative description is given for non-periodic oscillations observed in a current vs. gate voltage characteristics of cylindrical quantum dots. Energy eigenvalues and chemical potentials for a system of N confined electrons (N=1,...,13) are calculated by the unrestricted Hartree-Fock method with a confinement potential proportional to the gate voltage. The positions of the observed peaks of the current are reproduced with a very good accuracy. The non-periodicity of the characteristic is explained as a result of the shell filling, which is a signature of the quantum Coulomb blockade.

Opis:
A review of recent theoretical studies on a single-electron tunneling in quantum dots is presented. This effect underlies the transport spectroscopy performed on the vertical gated quantum dots and the capacitance spectroscopy on the self-assembled quantum dots. The conditions of the single-electron tunneling are formulated in terms of electrochemical potentials of the electrons in the leads and in the quantum dot. The electrochemical potentials for the electrons confined in the quantum dots can be calculated by solving the many-electron Schrödinger equation. The results obtained by the Hartree-Fock method are presented. For the vertical gated quantum dot, the realistic confinement potential is obtained from the Poisson equation. The application of the self-consistent procedure to the solution of the Poisson-Schrödinger problem is discussed. The calculated positions of the current peaks at zero bias and boundaries of the Coulomb diamonds for non-zero bias are in good agreement with experiment. The influence of an external magnetic field on the single-electron tunneling is also discussed. The spin-orbital configurations of the electrons confined in the quantum dots change with the magnetic field, which leads to features observed in the current-voltage and capacitance-voltage characteristics.

Opis:
A theoretical study of two-particle systems in quasi-one-dimensional quantum wires and quantum dots is presented. We have derived the analytical formula for the effective interaction potential between the charge carriers confined laterally by a strong parabolic potential and applied this formula to electron pairs in single and double quantum dots and to excitons in quantum wires. In the single quantum dot of the sufficiently large size, we have found the Wigner-type localization.

We present a numerical solution of the Poisson-Schrodinger problem for a semiconductor nanostructure containing a single quantum dot. The main outcome of our work is the lateral confinement potential, which determines the electronic properties of the nanodevice. We study the real nanodevice with cylindrical symmetry, which allows us to solve the three-dimensional problem on a two-dimensional mesh. We discuss the self-consistency of the solution with respect to the distribution of ionized donors inside the nanodevice.

We discuss a possible realization of a quantum controlled-NOT gate with the use of two coupled quantum dots. Transitions between quantum states of a computational basis are driven by the microwave π-pulse. The parameters of the proposed nanodevice have been optimized in order to make the operation cycle of the gate as short as possible. Numerical solutions of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation allow us to simulate transitions between the quantum states which correspond to the subsequent stages of the gate's operation. The performed time-dependent simulations are a test of realizability of the quantum controlled-NOT gate in the nanodevice.

Numerical modelling of a single-operation forging process of a radial bladed impeller forging as one piece is presented. The analysis have been performed using high-melting-alloy model material. A several alternative technologies differing in temperature and forming speed. Evaluation of the correctness of a forging process were based on distribution of effective strain, effective strain rate, mean stress as well as fllling of the cavities of a die-impression in thin-walled ribs type areas.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki numerycznego modelowania jednozabiegowego kucia wirnika wraz z łopatkami promieniowymi. Badania wykonano na materiale modelowym trudnotopliwym. Warunki brzegowe opracowano dla kilku alternatywnych technologii, dla różnych temperatur i prędkości narzędzi. Proces kucia oceniono na podstawie map rozkładu intensywności odkształcenia, intensywności prędkości odkształcenia, naprężeń średnich oraz wypełnienie wykroju matrycy w obszarach typu żeber cienkościennych.

Przedstawiono analizę obliczeń numerycznych procesu kucia matrycowego okuwki wydłużonej kutej w matrycach otwartych na zespole agregatów z zastosowaniem walcowania przedkuwki i kucia na prasie. Obliczenia numeryczne wykonano dla kilku alternatywnych technologii przy założeniu różnych kształtów i masy wsadu. Analizę przeprowadzono uwzględniając rozkład odkształceń, temperatury i parametrów energetycznych procesu kucia oraz wielkości uzysku kuźniczego dla przyjętych technologii.
In the paper numerical modelling of the multistage die forging process of connecting-rod was analysed. Numerical calculation was performed for a several alternative technologies with different weight and shape of a billet. In the analysis of the assumed technologies strain, temperature and energy parameters distribution and forging yield have been investigated.

Opis:
Utilization of thermo-mechanical treatment in forging medium-carbon alloyed steel including microaddition of titanium is presented. Results of forging tests carried out in industrial conditions with a use of a high-speed forging press in conventional cooling conditions are compared with those involving controlled forging and direct cooling after forging. Significant grain refinement accompanied by increase in tensile properties was observed. It was also concluded that deformation degree has an effect on the final mechanical properties.
Przedstawiono zastosowanie obróbki cieplno-plastycznej w procesie wytwarzania odkuwek ze stali niestopowej (średniowęglowej), zawierającej mikrododatek tytanu. Wyniki prób kucia przeprowadzone w warunkach przemysłowych przy użyciu szybkobieżnych pras kuźniczych z zastosowaniem tradycyjnego chłodzenia porównano z próbami, w których hartowanie przeprowadzono bezpośrednio po kuciu. Zaobserwowano znaczące rozdrobnienie ziarna przy zastosowaniu obróbki cicplno-plastycznej wraz z towarzyszącą mu poprawą własności mechanicznych, które również zależą od stopnia odkształcenia.

In 2004, the author studied the impact of the diversity of the environment and natural values in national parks of Western Australia on the number of tourists visiting them. The research indicates that the highest correlation is between natural values and number of tourists, a smaller one is between the diversity of the environment and natural values and the lowest correlation is between the diversity of the environment and the number of tourists. Such studies reąuire proper methods for evaluation of the natural environment. This paper discusses differences between the two main methods. The first, which describes diversity of the environment in national parks, is based on the evaluation made for the whole continent, where six main features of the environment were measured in the grid of sąuares. The natural values were studied with a greater accuracy on the basis of the descriptions and maps concerning the parks' territory. Attractiveness in respect to natural values is presented by the sum of points. Each park received from 0 to 2 points for each of the 18 natural values.
