Opis:
We consider a bounded domain $\Omega~\text{of}~\mathbb{R}^{N}, N \geq 3, h \text{and} b$ continuous functions on $\Omega$. Let $Gamma$ be a closed curve contained in $\Omega$. We study existence of positive solutions $u \in H_{0}^{1}(\Omega)$ to the perturbed Hardy-Sobolev equation: $$-\Delta{}u + hu + bu^{1+\delta} = \rho_{\Gamma}^{-\sigma} u^{2_{\sigma}^{\star}-1}~\text{in}~\Omega,$$ where $2_{\sigma}^{\star} := \frac{2(N-\sigma)}{N-2}$ is the critical Hardy-Sobolev exponent $\sigma \in [0,2), 0 < \delta < \frac{4}{N-2}$ and $\rho_{\Gamma}$ is the distance function to $\Gamma$. We show that the existence of minimizers does not depend on the local geometry of $\Gamma$ nor on the potential $h$. For $N = 3$, the existence of ground-state solution may depends on the trace of the regular part of the Green function of $-\Delta + h$ and or on $b$. This is due to the perturbative term of order $1 + \delta$.

Opis:
The constructive definition of the Weierstrass integral through only one limit process over finite sums is often preferable to the more sophisticated definition of the Serrin integral, especially for approximation purposes. By proving that the Weierstrass integral over a BV curve is a length functional with respect to a suitable metric, we discover a further natural reason for studying the Weierstrass integral. This characterization was conjectured by Menger.

Opis:
In the history of linguistics there have been crucial moments when those of us interestedin language have essentially changed the way we study our subject. We standnow at such a moment. In this presentation I will review the history of linguistics inorder to highlight some past important changes in the field, and then turn to wherewe stand now. Some things that we thought we knew have turned out not to be true, like the systematic, logical nature of languages. Other things that we had not suspected, like a universal underlying emergent pattern for all the features of a language, arenow evident. This emergent pattern is fractal, that is, we can observe the same distributionalpattern in frequency profiles for linguistic variants at every level of scale inour analysis. We also have hints that time, as the persistence of a preference for particularvariants of features, is a much more important part of our language than wehad previously believed. We need to explore the new realities of language as we nowunderstand them, chief among them the idea that patterned variation, not logical system,is the central factor in human speech. In order to account for what we now understand,we need to get used to new methods of study and presentation, and placenew emphasis on different communities and groups of speakers. Because the underlyingpattern of language is fractal, we need to examine the habits of every group ofspeakers at every location for themselves, as opposed to our previous emphasis onoverall grammars. We need to make our studies much more local, as opposed toglobal. We do still want to make grammars and to understand language in globalterms, but such generalizations need to follow from what we can now see as the patternof language as it is actually used.

Opis:
In the paper, a formula for calculation of the jerk of a point moving along a space curve is derived. Such a formula is needed for control of motion to calculate jerks (second derivatives of the velocity) by axes of motion. On the basis of this formula, an expression for the maximum admissible velocity on the space curve to satisfy limitation by the jerk is given as well. Such a requirement also arises in the motion control.

Opis:
In this paper we introduce the concept of bounded variation for functions defined on compact subsets of the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}\), based on the notion of variation along a curve as defined by Ashton and Doust; We describe in detail the space so generated and show that it can be equipped, in a natural way, with the structure of a Banach algebra. We also present a necessary condition for a composition operator \(C_\varphi\) to act between two such spaces.

Opis:
Most conflicts are territorial, nurtured by the rents from natural resources and strategic locations. Struggles over land, water and energy, clashes for control of routes, ports and airports; all these are often implicit in the more broadcast confrontations attributed exclusively to inequalities, culture, religion or ideologies. On the other hand, many of these territorial conflicts are internal to each country and, beyond issues related to the spatial allocation of rents from natural resources and control of strategic locations, there are spatial bargains on taxes and public expenditures that can lead to more enduring distrust. The paper assumes the the spatial profile of land, water and energy influences the spatial pattern of population distribution observed in regularities of the Zipf's Curve that relates the Size and Rank of the Cities of Each Country. It aims to demonstrate how regional governance, mirrored in the spatial allocation of governmental taxes and expenditures, plays a crucial role in urban concentration and spatial justice. The paper presents Zipf's Curve estimates for South Asian countries and maps for various countries, the differences between the estimated curve and the population of various cities. The result analysis indicates that the spatial distribution of rents obtained from natural resources and public transferences play a significant role in the spatial distribution of wealth. Summing up, there are reasons to believe that governance influences spatial justice, specifically through the spatial allocation of property rights over natural resources as well as through the spatial distribution of public spending. Moreover regional conflicts are remarkably associated with places and cities that, according to Zipf's Analytical Scheme, are below the level of what would be expected.(original abstract)

The main purpose of this article is to present a possible description of kinematic characteristics concerning the direction of travel of a selected mobile working machine in motion, namely, a hinged loader. This description is presented in the form of equations, which define the circumferential velocity as well as the angular velocity of the vehicle wheels during a ride involving a curve. In this way, it is also possible to describe a function of the axle differential.

Opis:
The study presented in this paper is a part of a substantive analysis of different didactical phenomena in relation to several mathematical concepts, conducted at the preparatory stage of a project aimed at investigating substantive and didactical competencies of pre-service teachers of mathematics. What I report here, relates to the exploration of didactical phenomena in relation to the tangent concept. Since school textbooks are the most common resource referred to by students and teachers, they deserve particular attention as one of the potential sources of concept images and mathematics-related beliefs of learners. In this article I present results from the analysis of ve, currently most popular, series of Polish secondary school mathematics textbooks. I attempt to answer the question of how the authors of these textbooks address a misconception known to be held by many students, namely that a line tangent to a curve has only one common point with that curve.
