Opis:
The real time monitoring of environment context aware activities is becoming a standard in the service delivery in a wide range of domains (child and elderly care and supervision, logistics, circulation, and other). The safety of people, goods and premises depends on the prompt reaction to potential hazards identified at an early stage to engage appropriate control actions. This requires capturing real time data to process locally at the device level or communicate to backend systems for real time decision making. This research examines the wireless sensor network and radio frequency identification technology integration in smart homes to support advanced safety systems deployed upstream to safety and emergency response. These systems are based on the use of hybrid intelligent decision support systems configured in a multi-distributed architecture enabled by the wireless communication of detection and tracking data to support intelligent real-time monitoring in smart buildings. This paper introduces first the concept of wireless sensor network and radio frequency identification technology integration showing the various options for the task distribution between radio frequency identification and hybrid intelligent decision support systems. This integration is then illustrated in a multi-distributed system architecture to identify motion and control access in a smart building using a room capacity model for occupancy and evacuation, access rights and a navigation map automatically generated by the system. The solution shown in the case study is based on a virtual layout of the smart building which is implemented using the capabilities of the building information model and hybrid intelligent decision support system.

The simulation of the Raman spectra of nanostructured materials, where the effects of frequency shift and asymmetric broadening of the Raman modes play an important role, can be very useful in systematic characterization of these materials. Use of phonon confinement model for calculating Raman spectra of different nanomaterials is considered both from the viewpoint of different confinement function and the confinement strength, as well as the dimensionality of the confinement model. The phonon dispersion relations and the choice of their approximation are also studied. The influence of particle size distribution on the shape of the calculated spectra is discussed and contributions of Gaussian and asymmetric Gaussian distribution are compared. The effects of average and inhomogeneous strain on the behavior of simulated Raman spectra are also discussed. The results of the phonon confinement model are compared to the experimental spectra of $CeO_2$ and anatase $TiO_2$ nanopowders.

The 2D particle-in-cell method based model of a negative ion source is presented. The spatial distributions of electrostatic potential and plasma component densities are presented. Changes of negative ion distribution and potential as well as the extracted H¯ current with the plasma grid bias voltage are investigated. The presence of the potential well near the plasma grid surface that traps the negative ions is shown. Increase of the H¯ ions density inside the chamber with the negative bias voltage is demonstrated. Influence of the H¯ ion flux outgoing from the plasma grid on the extracted current was checked: increase by factor 2 is observed when the flux rises 4 times. Current-voltage characteristics of the ion source are presented, saturation of the curve is observed above 50 kV.

Well-designed electrostatic cylindrical lenses are commonly used to control charged particles in atomic and molecular physics instruments such as electron guns and electron microscopes. The most commonly used of these, three-element electrostatic lenses are capable of keeping magnification constant for definite image position. The correct determination of focal and aberration characteristics of these lenses is very important for experimental studies. In this study, motions of electrons in three-element electrostatic cylindrical lenses have been investigated with nonlinear autoregressive exogenous based time series artificial neural network technique. The spherical and chromatic aberrations which affect the beam are also predicted with time series artificial neural network technique. This method is a mathematical model that emulates the biological neural networks. The basic working principle of time series artificial neural network technique is training of network with the known data and then prediction of the unknown data. Simulation results from SIMION 8.1 ray-tracing program are used as training and test data set. According to the results obtained from time series artificial neural network technique technique, a considerably agreement is found between simulation and artificial neural network technique prediction results. The study shows that such an artificial neural network model which has time advantage can be applicable to various electron and ion beam apparatus.

Opis:
Magnetic separation is one of the methods that are used to separate magnetic and non-magnetic components from an input mixture. Its effectiveness strongly depends on the strength and distribution of magnetic field in the separator. It is economical to use Halbach permanent magnet arrays to create a suitable magnetic field, since they do not change their properties during separation and do not need electrical energy. During real magnetization process, however, there can be a problem with correct orientation of their magnetization vector. The work based on 2D computer models shows the influence of different orientations of magnetization vectors of individual elements of Halbach arrays on the size and distribution of the magnetic field in the considered separator space. Several model systems that contained four to six typical AlNiCo, SmCo and NdFeB cube shaped magnets with the dimensions 50×50×50 $mm^3$ were used for the analysis.

One of the most fundamental examination in intensive care medicine is cardiac output measurement, realized by pulmonary artery catherization. The thermodilution cardiac output estimation method is not resistant to various kinds of disturbances, which significantly decreases its sensitivity and specificity. The paper depicts investigations related to analysis of presumable new source of unreliability - asymmetric blood flow through pulmonary vessels. The investigations consisted of two phases: clinical examination (to obtain anatomical data) and computer modeling (to simulate the flow symmetry).

The Monte Carlo method based model of the ionization in the hot cavity taking into account radioactive decay of nuclides is presented. The code upgraded compared to the previous version enables calculation of the ion source ionization efficiency not only for different geometries and temperatures of the ionizer, extraction voltages etc. but also gives opportunity of setting different values of the nuclide half-life and its sticking time, which may be considered as the main factor determining the time that a particle spends in the ion source. The results of calculations are presented together with the discussion of the radioactive decay on the ion source performance.

The following paper presents the basis of a Rayleigh magnetic hysteresis model and the examples of its application for modeling the magnetic characteristics of ferromagnetic materials: ferrites and steels. The presented model allows one to simulate the shape of a magnetic hysteresis loop of the material for the given value of the magnetizing field in the so-called Rayleigh region, as well as to calculate basic magnetic parameters of the material like coercive field, magnetic remanence, and power loss. Four different ferromagnetic materials (two ferrites and two alloy steels) were chosen for the investigation. Each material was investigated within the range of low magnetizing fields, corresponding to the Rayleigh region. On the basis of obtained results, modeling of magnetic characteristics of the investigated materials was performed. Moreover, the range of magnetizing field where the Rayleigh model can be applied for these materials was investigated based on correlation coefficient between experimental results and modeling.

This work is an an early stage of a larger project aiming at answering the question whether or not the Preisach map is really fingerprinting magnetic materials. More precisely, we are interested whether the Preisach model of magnetic hysteresis indeed contains any physics or is just a convenient modeling tool. To this extent we study a very simple mechanical system, thus fully tractable, subjected to the external force. Despite of its simplicity, our model captures all the fundamental features of real magnetic materials, namely their hysteretic behavior, coercivity, remanent magnetization, and saturation at high fields. Both the overall shape of major hysteresis loop as well as first order reversal curves are reproduced quite correctly; they are very similar to those observed in magnetic materials. The model essentially consists of a single, spring loaded, rigid and rotative bar with non-zero friction torque. The length of a projection of this bar onto the direction of an external force is identified with magnetization. The friction torque and the spring constant are the only freely adjustable parameters of our model. Here we investigate, and present, their influence on the inferred Preisach maps.
