Opis:
Ro-ro vessels use shipside and shore ramps as roll-on/roll-off loading facilities. Baltic Sea has not tidal effects and water level did not change very much. In same time water level fluctuations in ports areas make difficulties to establish proper access to shore for ro-ro vessels during loading and unloading operations. Flexibility of ro-ro vessel-to-shore links pan is one of the key elements for optimization of ro-ro operations in ports. Feasibility outline of pontoon ramp potential, calculation methods and practical usage is studded and presented further in the article.

Opis:
In this paper, the development of Motorways of the Sea (MoS) services offered at Italian ports from 2008 to 2015 is analyzed. In particular, a detailed research on MoS routes calling at Italian ports in the year 2015 is carried out; within MoS routes: ropax and only cargo ro-ro services are identified. MoS routes in the year 2015 are compared with those in the years 2008, 2010 and 2012. The study highlights two main aspects. First, the great majority of MoS routes in Italy are ro-pax ones: ro-ro routes are only 31% of the total, but ro-pax service frequencies are highly variable during the year, from high to low season. Second, due to the economic crisis, carriers are trying to operate services with high load factors and trying to find new markets: in fact, from 2008 to 2015, route frequencies have decreased, whereas the number of port calls in each route has increased. Finally, the capability of ro-ro and ro-pax routes of being competitive versus all-road transport has been analyzed. The analysis has shown that both ro-ro and ro-pax routes show relevant problems in terms of their competitiveness against all-road transport. Ro-pax routes are not reliable and ro-ro routes are not fast and frequent; thus, they both do not fulfill essential requirements for MoS services.

In this Article are analyzed delay times of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ships arrival to port on basis of statistical data and used mathematical models for calculation of the arrival time pass.

Ro-pax vessels should fulfil the requirements of the current harmonised SOLAS Convention. The study analyses the effect of various ro-pax vessel subdivision arrangements on the subdivision index. A Polish ferry was chosen as a generic ship to perform the study. For illustration of damage survivability, the attained subdivision index A was calculated for a number of modified configurations. The arrangements included single and double sides above and below the car deck, with and without a double buoyant car deck. The conclusions of the study can be used in the design of new ro-pax vessels.

Roll-on Roll-of (Ro-Ro) transport is one of the primary options EU policy is focusing on for developing intermodal transport and MOS initiatives, aimed at reducing road transport (especially trucks). In line with EU guidelines, this study proposes an integrated and optimized network scheme for the maritime Ro-Ro freight services currently operating in the Italian Tyrrhenian area to improve the overall supply of shipping services. The methodological approach used is based on the integration of the timetables and frequencies of existing freight shipping services using an original mathematical model that assigns demand flows to the network while trying to minimize a multi-objective function composed of a weighted sum of travel times and tariffs. Quantitative results show the positive impact generated by rescheduling and coordinating liner shipping and demonstrate how a ‘Tyrrhenian network system' considered as a whole would be more attractive than the single services taken collectively.

Design guidelines are presented for predicting added wave resistance useful at the early stage of designing ro-ro ferries. The guidelines were prepared on the basis of regression analysis of model values of added wave resistance. The model values were calculated by means of 448 ferry shape variants assuming conventional waving parameters and ferry movement parameters. Such approach permitted the replacement of a complicated numerical model with a simple regression model based on basic design parameters.
W pracy przedstawiono wskazówki projektowe dotyczące prognozowania dodatkowego oporu na fali przydatne na wstępnym etapie projektowania promów ro-ro. Wskazówki opracowano w oparciu o analizę regresji wartości wzorcowych dodatkowego oporu na fali. Wartości wzorcowe obliczono za pomocą dokładnych metod numerycznych dla 448 wariantów kształtu promu, przyjmując umowne parametry falowania oraz parametry ruchu promu. Takie podejście pozwoliło zastąpić skomplikowany model numeryczny prostym modelem regresyjnym bazującym na podstawowych parametrach projektowych.

The paper presents approximations of added wave resistance useful in the early stage of designing ro-ro ferries. Reference added wave resistance values were calculated by means of SEAWAY software based on accurate numerical methods. Approximating function was elaborated by using the artificial neural networks. W pracy przedstawiono aproksymacje dodatkowego oporu od fali przydatne na wstępnym etapie projektowania promów ro-ro. Wartości wzorcowe dodatkowego oporu od fali obliczono przy użyciu programu SEAWAY. Aproksymacje opracowano za pomocą sztucznych sieci neuronowych. Wartości wzorcowe obliczono dla 448 wariantów kształtu promu, przyjmując umowne parametry falowania oraz parametry ruchu promu. Takie podejście pozwoliło zastąpić skomplikowany model numeryczny prostym modelem regresyjnym, bazującym na podstawowych parametrach geometrycznych kadłuba.

W artykule przedstawiono główne charakterystyki rozwiązań projektowych typowych pojazdowców, m.in. rozplanowanie przestrzenne statku, typ konstrukcyjny. Przy wykorzystaniu analizy regresji oceniono wpływ istotności badanych parametrów. Zawarte w artykule zależności regresyjne jedno- i wieloparametrowe umożliwiają we wczesnym etapie projektowania oszacowanie wielkości statku-pojazdowca, jak i głównych jego charakterystyk.
This article presents the main characteristics of typical design solutions of ro-ro trailer ships, including spatial layout of the ships and the type of design. With the use of regression analysis, the impact of the importance of the test parameters was assessed. The regression formulae, which are one and multi-veriable, can be used in preliminary design for the estimation of ro-ro trailer vessel dimensions and main characteristics.

The high volume transported by ro-ro vessels has not come without a price. Accidents and incidents related to design – lack of bulkheads, instability, problems with cargo access doors, stowage, securing cargo and lifesaving appliances – are growing along with the size of the vessels themselves. One particular and recurrent problem is the degree of these giant box-like high riding vessels exposed to wind. Recently the effect of a tramontana – a fierce, sudden and short term regional wind – in the Port of Koper was to detach a moored ship, causing an accident. This paper will present a study of that accident, and through simulations and modelling determine an improvement that will allow berthing perpendicular to the stern ramp to function more securely.

This paper is an extension of work originally presented in 2019 EUROPEAN NAVIGATION CONFERENCE (ENC) [4]. The paper has described the important role of the Stockholm Agreement in safety of the Ro-Ro/Passenger ships in the north European waters. The present work describes the way in which we can improve the safety in strong chance of destruction of ship at sea. All results are generalized for a given group of ships. The specific construction of the RO-RO/ Passenger ships, being characterized by flat vehicle decks which are practically open, un-subdivided, and additional passenger accommodation space, with ramp fitted astern and in some cases in fore or side of the ship, giving access to cars, trucks and trailers, or specific trains which remain on board in their laden state, has resulted in international regulation requiring, amongst other things, strengthening the damage stability requirements for this type of ships. The more stringent damage stability criteria has been adopted on a regional basis by northern European countries as STOCKHOLM Agreement, in 1996. The paper concerns an analyze of damage stability calculations results in compliance with the STOCKHOLM Agreement, when the Ro-Ro/ Passenger ship is fully loaded, with maximum Deadweight (DWT) and maximum draught, or partly loaded, with reduced DWT, and occurs Minor or Major penetration of destroyed compartments.

The paper presents some results on investigations concerning development of a hybrid model for assessment of performance of the ro-ro ships in damaged conditions. The model is devoted towards assessing the performance of the damaged ro-ro ships at the preliminary stage of design. The key problems associated with preparing of such the model are associated with working out a method of assessment of the damaged ro-ro ships performance, investigating all the phenomena which associated with the flooding process of the damaged ro-ro ships and preparing the model itself. Introducing the method of assessment of the damaged ro-ro ships performance it has been assumed that there is a dependence between the arrangement of internal spaces of a ro-ro ship and flooding process. The major phenomena which have been decided to take into account when considering flooding of the ro-ro ships are the flooding understood as the flow of external water into the data damaged compartment, impact of the flooding water on the ship structure and damaged ro-ro ship motion. Knowing the damaged ro-ro ship motion characteristics in time domain it is relatively easy to assess the damaged ro-ro ship performance according to the heeling angle and assess the ro-ro ship design according to the data arrangement of internal spaces. The last research issue is to investigate if the proposed model may be appropriate tool for assessing the performance of the ro-ro ships in damaged conditions at the preliminary stage of design. The aim of this paper is to show how to incorporate the dynamics of the damaged ro-ro ships when assessing the ship performance and safety at the preliminary stage of design. The basic information on the model for estimation of the damaged ro-ro ship behavior during the flooding process is presented. The complexity of this model is shown depending on the approach applied to consider the flooding process itself. The model is devoted towards assessment of performance of the damaged ro-ro ships and it is still under the development according to a Ph.D. research at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Gdańsk University of Technology.

The goal of the paper is to focus on the problem of emission of harmful compounds e.g. NOx, SOx and CO2 from seagoing ships to environment. The VI Amendment to MARPOL Convention concerning prevention against air pollution by seagoing ships, brought into practice in May 19th 2005, forced ship owners to use means for reduction of environment harmful substances emission to atmosphere. They may comprise construction and operating methods. Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is one of the tools enabling implementation of the above-mentioned regulations, compulsory to all new design and build ships. However, for units already in operation, the problem requires a different approach. The article presents various methods of reduction of toxic substances and CO2 by seagoing vessels in order to adapt to the requirements of the Convention and other legal regulations in this regard. As an example, the analysis has been presented concerning possibilities of adjustability of cruise ferries and Ro-Ro vessels operating on the Baltic Sea to the requirements of Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention. Some possible solutions have been shown focusing on selection of system of combustion of hydro-fuel emulsion in main drive engine. Article contains description of introducing water to the combustion chamber methods and water influence on the combustion process.
