Irena Poniatowska’s latest publication represents an attempt to grasp the inexpressible and the transcendental in Chopin reception by means of symbolic metaphors. Drawing on parallels from the fine arts and theoretical concepts from the past, the author attempts a holistic exegesis of ethereal verse devoted to Chopin. She discusses such semantic categories as nostalgia, nationality and the ideal, as well as aesthetic categories like beauty, indicating both common and individual features of Chopin’s reception in literary works. The book is a unique study of the correspondance des arts, without parallel in the Chopin literature.

The article attempts to interpret several of Teresa Ferenc’s poems included in the volume Pieta, published in 1981. The selected works combine the motifs of home, mother and the girl who is the author’s porte-parole. Written from the perspective of the trauma experienced in childhood: the burning of the family village and the death of her parents, we find numerous biblical allusions and cultural contexts, the explanation of which is the subject of this study. An attempt has been made to demonstrate the richness of the poetic imagery, the source of which can be traced back to extreme experiences.
W artykule podjęto próbę interpretacji kilku wierszy Teresy Ferenc zawartych w wydanym w 1981 roku tomiku zatytułowanym Pieta. Wybrane utwory łączą motywy domu, matki i dziewczynki będącej porte–parole autorki. W pisanych z perspektywy przeżytej w dzieciństwie traumy: spalenia rodzinnej wsi i śmierci rodziców, odnajdujemy liczne aluzje biblijne oraz konteksty kulturowe, których eksplikacja jest przedmiotem niniejszego studium. Podjęto starania, by wykazać bogactwo środków obrazowania poetyckiego, których źródła należy upatrywać w ekstremalnych doświadczeniach.

The article is an analysis of Ciało wiersza [The Body of the Poem], a poetic volume by Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki, in the light of psychoanalysis, somatopoetics and philosophy of the body. The author juxtaposes the category of the “body of the poem” with Jean-Luc Nancy’s Corpus. In this context he presents Ciało wiersza as a collection of texts describing the situation of a subject embodying the content of its psyche, transgressing and being on the verge of mental entropy or schizophrenia. Close to Freud’s cathartic method, Tkaczyszyn-Dycki treats the poem as a reservoir of psychogenic material and a projection instrument. The somatext, as embodied unconsciousness, analyzed through the prism of basic Freudian tools (defense mechanisms, regressive shifts), appears as a resultant of the dialectic of repression and the imperative of commemoration, which channels libidinal energy through imaginative displacements. Referring to the recurring leitmotifs of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki’s imagination in Ciało wiersza, the author traces how the poet reflects in the poetic text the workings of the psychic apparatus and the “multiple names” of schizophrenia.

The subject matter of my research is the black legend of Niccolò Machiavelli in Polish baroque poetry. This legend spread in the 17th-century Commonwealth on such a large scale that the name of this secretary of the Florentine republicbegan to be used to describe even kings or pretenders to the throne who were political opponents. For this reason, I described in this scientific article the literary works of poets such as Wacław Potocki, Wespazjan Kochowski and Stanisław Orzelski. The second of these authors acted in a similar way in The Stone of Testimony of the Innocence of the Great Senator in the Polish Crown, comparing the actions of the royal court to an infernal council, in which such characters as Machiavelli, Richelieu and Mazarini take part. In my scientific article, I will emphasize that this Polish Baroque poet also showed the secretary of the Florentine republic in his other literary works as a perverse and demonic person. I will also note that Wacław Potocki in his work negatively refers to those people who defame John III Sobieski in lampoons and accuse him of using “Machiavellian arts”. I will not ignore Stanisław Orzelski’s Macaronica carmina Marfordii Mądzikovii poetae approbatihere.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest omówienie barokowych tekstów, które dotyczą wyeksponowanego w ewangelii wątku obrzezania. W kulturze religijnej dzieciństwo Jezusa „wytwarzało” znaki odwołujące się do warstwy alegorycznej i symbolicznej. To przede wszystkim żydowski rytuał obrzezania zostaje przywołany przez siedemnastowiecznych twórców. Okazuje się, że odgrywa on ważną rolę w poetyckich rozważaniach, które odwołują się do motywów związanych z okresem świat Bożego Narodzenia, wchodzą w dialog z tradycją religijną (czy teologiczną), próbującą uchwycić znaczenia przypisywane obrzezaniu Jezusa.
The aim of this article is to discuss the baroque texts that are concerned with the theme of circumcision as described in the gospel. In religious culture, Jesus’ childhood “produced” signs referring to the allegorical and symbolic layer. It is primarily the Jewish ritual of circumcision that was invoked by seventeenth-century authors. It turns out that it plays an important role in poetic considerations that refer to motifs related to the Christmas period, enter into a dialogue with the religious (or theological) tradition, trying to grasp the meanings attributed to the circumcision of Jesus.

[„I will focus on the monstrosity of phenomena”]. On the poetic imagination of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. This article examines a selection of Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska’s poems inspired by the Baroque imagination. In her last volume of poetry published by the interwar poet before the Second World War (Szkicownik poetycki) she pays tribute to the late Baroque poet, Józef Baka. Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska analyses the imagery, mood and language of his work, which encourages the reader to look at the sources of her poetic outlook. From the very beginning of her poetic development, Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska was fascinated by the natural world, both its beauty and ugliness, the latter involving the processes of decay, decomposition and death in their various forms. The analysed poems show a sense of the duality of the world, awe, and absurdity of existence, reflect in the complexity of all phenomena. This attitude is built on the base of the original poetic technique of Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska, and at the same time demonstrates associations with the Baroque poetry.

„Merriment dangling from terror32” – baroque in the poetic world of Wisława Szymborska The article extends previous findings regarding the multiple connections between Szymborska’s poetry and the baroque tradition. It exposes the existential dimension of these references concerning anthropology and the place of man in the world. The world of Szymborka’s poetry, unlike the baroque one, is a disenchanted world. The author of the article draws attention to the inner dark trend in Szymborska’s work, related to the sense of terror of existence. This conviction about the tragic essence of the condition of human nature is skillfully masked with linguistic means, giving the impression of cheerful fun. The poet asks questions about the responsibility for one’s own life, for other beings. Existential anxiety of this poetry is mitigated by the convention of linguistic play. However, this does not ease the sense of being lost in the abyss of being.

The article concerns the poem by Bogusław Adamowicz Ta poezja, to rusałka from the volume Gra wyobraźni of the year 1897. The text refers to the lyrical image of poetry contained in the poem, presented as a nymph. Adamowicz, a Polish modernist author, creates a parallel between the features of poetry as a creative act and the attributes given to this Slavonic demon. This poem is definitely distinguishable, both against the background of the other poems by Adamowicz, and in the manner of using Slavonic beliefs in Polish modernist literature.

Four poems by Italian little known (or rather unknown at all) poets are published in annex to Władysław Mickiewicz’s Mémorial de la Légion Polonaise de 1848 créée en Italie par Adam Mickiewicz, Paris 1877. They have been ‘carefully’ preserved by Mickiewicz himself, despite he burnt a lot of papers before leaving for Constantinople in 1855. These poems, offered to Mickiewicz in 1848 while passing with his Legion from empoli to Milan, are average examples of the Italian patriotic poetry of the ‘second romanticism’ and three of them were translated and published in Polish as late as in 1961. It would be interesting to investigate more about how many literary testimonies of this ideological and military enterprise still remain in old prints and in manuscripts.

The article considers the translation by Wiktor Woroszylski of various types of intertextual elements included by Iosif Brodski in his poem Два часа в резервуаре (In English – Two hours in the tank). Regardless of the different translation decisions and noticeable associative shifts that concern specific intertextual elements, the translation as a whole should be considered successful. Nevertheless, in the course of the analysis, the author comes to the conclusion that in the case of an intertextualized text (one that is saturated with intertextual elements), the preservation in the translation of the associative chains that make up the network of intertextual associations is more important than the adequacy of the specific elements of the text.

Poezja Wiktara Siamaszki stanowi znaczący i radykalnie nowy wkład w dziedzictwo literackie Białoruskiego Stowarzyszenia Literackiego „Białowieża”. Krótkie, wręcz minimalistyczne wiersze poety uderzają niebanalnymi i niekonwencjonalnymi środkami językowymi, takimi jak gra słów, eufonia, anafora czy palindrom. Równie imponująco prezentuje się tematyka poezji Siamaszki: od problematyki rodzinnej, poprzez starzenie się i śmierć, religię (szczególnie wiarę katolicką), aż po życie w mieście i na wsi, od Moskwy po Paryż, z Mińskiem jako centrum wszechświata. Pięć wydanych dotąd (w latach 2010–2023) książek tego muzyka i dziennikarza, a także poety awangardowego dla odbiorcy stanowi zarówno wyzwanie, jak i inspirację głównie ze względu na szatę językową: odważnym operowaniem nowatorskim słownictwem oraz przełamywaniem językowego tabu. Wyobraźnia poetycka oraz metaforyka Siamaszki wymagają szerszego opracowania, niniejszy artykuł został poświęcony jedynie ogólnej prezentacji twórczości poetyckiej tego zasługującego na uwagę poety.
The poetry of Viktar Siamaška brings a strong and radically new contribution to the literary heritage of the Bielavieža group of Belarusian writers in eastern Poland. His mainly short, even minimalist, verses strike fresh and unconventional notes, rich in wordplay, euphony, anaphora and palindromes in all the themes he tackles, such as family, ageing and death, religion (particularly his Catholic faith), urban and rural life, the latter including many fantastic, personified images; his view of the city is dyspeptic from Moscow to Paris with Miensk in the centre. Musician and journalist as well as avant-garde poet, his five books to date (2010–2023) are both challenging and stimulating. Adventurous in form on the page, their lexical range is broad, not least in the use of non-standard, previously taboo words. A whole study could be made of Siamaška’s fantastic imagery and metaphoric structures, but the present study is devoted only to an overall picture of his poetic achievement to date.
Паэзія Віктара Сямашкі ўносіць прыкметны і радыкальна новы ўклад у літаратурную спадчыну Беларускага літаратурнага аб’яднання „Белавежа” ва ўсходняй Польшчы. Кароткія, нават мінімалістычныя вершы паэта ўражваюць арыгінальнымі і нетрадыцыйнымі моўнымі сродкамі, такімі як гульня слоў, эўфанія, анафара і паліндром. Не менш уражвае і тэматычны дыяпазон паэзіі Сямашкі: ад сямейных праблем праз старэнне і смерць, рэлігію (асабліва каталіцкую) да жыцця ў горадзе і ў вёсцы, ад Масквы да Парыжа, з Мінскам як цэнтрам сусвету. Пяць кніг паэта-авангардыста, музыканта і журналіста, апублікаваныя дагэтуль (у 2010–2023 гг.), уяўляюць сабой выклік, але таксама натхненне для чытача, дзякуючы іх непаўторнай мове і аўтарскаму стылю: смеламу выкарыстанню наватарскай лексікі і парушэнню моўных табу. Фантастычная вобразнасць і метафарычныя канструкцыі Сямашкі заслугоўваюць асобнага глыбокага даследавання; даны артыкул дае толькі агульнае ўяўленне пра творчасць гэтага знакамітага паэта, пра яго важнейшыя дасягненні на сённяшні дзень.

Artykuł przedstawia nowe spojrzenie na twórczość Anny Świrszczyńskiej. Proponuje reinterpretację liryków poetki za pomocą kategorii traumy i pamięci, obecnych w nowej humanistyce. Udowadnia, że poezja Świrszczyńskiej ma wymiar terapeutyczny, jest jednocześnie autoterapią oraz próbą przepracowania kobiecych, pokoleniowych i tożsamościowych traum.
The article presents a new look at the work of Anna Świrszczyńska. It proposes a reinterpretation of the poet's lyrics using the category of trauma and memory present in the new humanities. It proves that Świrszczyńska's poetry has a therapeutic dimension, being at the same time self-therapy and an attempt to work through female, generational, and identity traumas.

It can be understood as a set of tricks or as a stylistic and creative idea that defines the way authors think. Due to its use of paradox, the concept has attracted the interest of contemporary literature created under the auspices of postmodernism. This article attempts to show some solutions of Polish contemporary and recent literature that refers to the tradition of the concept. The operation of the concept takes place both on the external literary level (polymedia genres) and on the internal literary level (narrative figures derived from baroque poetics).

The author of the article, referring to the statements of Czesław Miłosz and well-known literary critics: Stanisław Barańczak, Marian Stala, Piotr Śliwiński discusses the main threads of Bronisław Maj’s poetry, such as: poetic epiphany, existential anxiety, the poet’s sense of loneliness in a world abandoned by God and metaphysical and axiological reflection on the essence of reality.

Pisane przez Krzysztofa Czyżewskiego żegaryszki to zapisy opatrzone datami dziennymi, bez wskazania roku, z którego pochodzą. Tworzą tryptyk. Jego trzecie ogniwo jest zarazem zwornikiem, łączącym oba wcześniej wydane cykle. W tej osiowej księdze „wierszy najmniejszych” powracają niektóre zapisy i fotografie ze zbiorów poprzednich, zostają jednak raz jeszcze wpisane w krągły rok – w tok kalendarzowych dni (i nocy) biegnących ścieżką powrotnych miesięcy, ścieżką pór roku, która prowadzi od wiosennego przesilenia do schyłku zimy. I wciąż na nowo odnajduje samą siebie. Artykuł omawia te kwesstie i jest próbą wstępnej interpretacji żegaryszek napisanych przez Czyżewskiego. 
A presentation of an interpretative insight into three supplementing cycles of Żegaryszki by Krzysztof Czyżewski. The text concerns both the cycles’ triptych structure and the key motifs linking particular cycles into a thematic and problem entity whose warp consists of meditative reflection on existence and illumination experiences written out in particular poems and photographs accompanying the latter. The author of the text embarks upon a motif, of importance for Żegaryszki, of poetic and photographic epiphanies of concrete places and the inclusion of those artistic forms into the real space of Krasnogruda. More, he signalizes the anthropological potential of Czyżewski’s records, particularly their spiritual dimension.
