    In the past two years, Ukrainian society has experienced deep transformational processes in all of its spheres: political, socio-economic and spiritual. The youth of today operate in extreme conditions: conducting military operations on the territory of Ukraine, the transition to European values. Moreover, the lack of financial stability in the country means that the crisis has led to a re-evaluation amongst of youth. Students are particularly sensitive in this regard and perfectly reflect the new priorities in the system of values, interests and social norms. They are a group in which these changes are the most vivid, a group corresponding to the new trends in fashion, literature, cinema and music, as well as the first group which tends to exhibit an extreme sensitivity to something new, which in turn is reflected in their value orientations. The study described in this article allows an analysis of the causes and nature of social change. Presented in this text are statistics on students’ interests and their values in different aspects—social, recreational, cultural or personal. The results of the study can be helpful in identifying some of the trends emerging in the life strategies of contemporary student youth in Ukraine.
    W ciągu ostatnich dwóch lat społeczeństwo ukraińskie doświadczyło głębokich procesów transformacji we wszystkich jego sferach: politycznych, społeczno-ekonomicznych i duchowych. Dzisiejsza młodzież funkcjonuje w ekstremalnych warunkach: prowadzenia operacji wojskowych na terytorium Ukrainy, przechodzenia do wartości europejskich. Ponadto brak stabilności finansowej w kraju determinuje kryzys procesu przewartościowania wśród młodzieży. Młodzież studencka jest szczególnie wrażliwa w tym zakresie. Studenci doskonale odzwierciedlają nowe priorytety w systemie wartości, interesów i norm społecznych. To w grupie studentów widać te zmiany w sposób najbardziej obrazowy. To oni zawsze odpowiadają na nowe trendy w modzie, literaturze, kinie i muzyce, a także są pierwszą grupą wykazującą ekstremalną wrażliwość na coś nowego, co z kolei przejawia się w orientacjach na wartości. Badanie opisywane w tym artykule pozwala na analizę przyczyn i charakteru zmian społecznych. W tekście są prezentowane dane statystyczne na temat zainteresowań studentów, ich wartości w różnych obszarach – społecznych, rekreacyjnych i kulturalnych czy osobistych. Wyniki badań mogą zidentyfikować pojawiające się pewne trendy w strategiach życiowych współczesnej młodzieży studenckiej na Ukrainie.

    Values are an essential, intrinsic part of language and the linguistic view of the world. They are associated with the point of view and perspective of perception of the surrounding reality, and the linguistic view of the world is derived from the presumed value system. When studying language, one can discuss values, their hierarchy, the cultural orientation of the system of judgments and patterns, ways of judging, typical of a given community. Interest in the influence of values on worldview and, consequently, on intercultural communication resulted in a study in the form of an associative experiment among Polish and Ukrainian youth. Its results showed that the perception of values is most often similar or even the same in both nationality groups, e.g. associative interpretations of such phenomena as health, love, friendship, etc. Differences in understanding are more noticeable in values that are ranked differently, cf. security, honesty, etc.

    This article discusses the values most popular with gymnasium students. Theoretical approach refers to the issue of values as such, as well as to the problem of education in human values (in the review of sociological and psycho-pedagogical literature). The empirical part of the study discusses the author’s research results. The research was aimed at investigating values which tend to be most popular with gymnasium students, and environmental factors determining students’ choices of values, as well. In total, 92 second-year students of gymnasium were surveyed (48 living in urban areas and 44 living in rural areas). The values most popular with the respondents distinguished by the place of residence were as follows: allocentric values appeared to be preferable, the second popular were hedonistic values, then pro-social values, family values and finally, material values. Having taken sex as an independent variable, two different hierarchies of values for boys and girls were established. In case of girls, the most preferable values were as reported in the following order: allocentric values, pro-social values, hedonistic values, family and material values. The boy respondents, whereas, considered hedonistic values as most important, then allocentric values, family, pro-social and material values. Finally, the problems of education in human values, transmission of values, teaching values and particularly the examples set by parents and teachers were discussed.

    Educational practice is directly connected with how and what teachers think about the students. In the text are presented the results of researches into common beliefs of students from teaching faculties concerning values in the children’s world. Analyses show worrying tendencies in the way of thinking of future teachers about the students: they perceive them as being passive, very dependent on adults, concentrated on themselves, potentially more prone to harm rather than to good. In the understanding of students, children learn bad values from pathological adults, peers, and the media.

    This research is an attempt to establish the hierarchy of values in future physicians and tracing a possible correlation between the values they exhibit and depressive symptoms they experience. The research covered 263 students of the Medical Faculty, Medical University of Łódź, aged from 19 to 25 years (average age 22.3 years). Examined were 177 students of the second year and 86 students of the fourth year, coming mainly from urban areas. Furthermore, 109 students of the Technical University of Łódź were examined, along with students of the University of Łódź: 71 students of the fourth year of architecture and 38 students of the fourth year of pedagogy, aged from 20 to 25 years (average age 22.0 years). The students of medicine and students of other faculties were statistically significantly differentiated by the following values: “clean”, “intellectual”, “independent”, “imaginative”, “responsible”, “internal balance”, “world of beauty”, “social recognition”, “life full of impressions”. The values, which statistically significantly differentiated the second and fourth year students of medicine, were: “ambitious”, “national safety”, “mature love” and “pleasure”. The group of medicine students exhibited a considerable severity of depressive symptoms, which was associated with a high rank attributed to the “forgiving” value and low rank attributed to the values: “logical”, “cheerful”, “mature love” and “one’s own dignity”. Significant differences were found in the value system among students of different faculties of studies. The students of medicine exhibited a high severity of depressive symptoms, which was associated with the values they represented.
    Celem niniejszej pracy była próba ustalenia hierarchii wartości przyszłych lekarzy oraz prześledzenie ewentualnej zależności pomiędzy wyznawanymi zasadami a występowaniem u nich objawów depresji. Badaniami objęto 263 studentów wydziału lekarskiego UM w Łodzi w wieku od 19 do 25 lat (średnia wieku 22,3 roku). Zbadano 177 studentów II roku i 86 studentów IV roku, pochodzących głównie ze środowiska miejskiego. Badaniu poddano również 109 osób studiujących na Politechnice Łódzkiej i Uniwersytecie Łódzkim – 71 będących na IV roku architektury i 38 z IV roku pedagogiki, w wieku od 20 do 25 lat (średnia wieku 22,0 lata). Studentów medycyny i studentów innych kierunków studiów istotnie statystycznie różnicowały wartości: „czysty”, „intelektualista”, „niezależny”, „obdarzony wyobraźnią”, „odpowiedzialny”, „równowaga wewnętrzna”, „świat piękna”, „uznanie społeczne”, „życie pełne wrażeń”. Wartościami w sposób istotny statystycznie odróżniającymi studentów medycyny II roku od studentów tego kierunku na IV roku były: „ambitny”, „bezpieczeństwo narodowe”, „dojrzała miłość”, „przyjemność”. W grupie przyszłych lekarzy zanotowano znaczne nasilenie objawów depresyjnych, które miało związek z wysoką rangą przypisywaną wartości „wybaczający” i niską rangą nadawaną wartościom: „logiczny”, „pogodny”, „dojrzała miłość” oraz „poczucie własnej godności”. Stwierdzono istotne różnice wśród studentów różnych kierunków studiów w zakresie systemu wartości. W grupie studentów medycyny widoczne było wysokie nasilenie objawów depresji, które miało związek z wyznawanymi wartościami.

    One of the basic tasks of development at the stage of adolescence is the formation of an individual hierarchy of values, which in later stages of life is a fully regulatory function in daily life activities and choices. Numerous studies indicate that young people declared preferring universal values, and, to a small degree, those which are considered typically hedonistic. In order to diagnose with which symbols the youth equate happiness and what values in life are paramount, and whether and to what extent selected socio-demographic factors differ in this field, a student study was conducted using the method of a diagnostic survey. As a tool there was used a List of Personal Values by Siegfried Juczyński. 375 junior high school students from the Lublin Province were examined. Personal values declared by young people usually refer to family, friends, good health. Hedonistic values chosen by respondents were rarely ascribed a low rank. Socio-demographic factors such as a place of residence, parents’ education and a subjective assessment of the situation of the family differentiated pupils only in terms of individual symbols of happiness and personal values. Gender was not a factor differentiating the respondents in this area. Axiological sphere is subject to social, cultural, educational constant change. Important in this regard seem to be activities aimed at education towards values.
    Jednym z podstawowych zadań rozwojowych na etapie adolescencji jest formowanie indywidualnej hierarchii wartości, która pełni na dalszych etapach życia funkcję regulacyjną w codziennej życiowej aktywności i dokonywaniu wyborów. Liczne badania wykazują, że młodzież deklaruje preferowanie wartości uniwersalnych, a w małym stopniu uznaje wartości typowo hedonistyczne. W celu zdiagnozowania, z jakimi symbolami młodzież utożsamia szczęście i jakie wartości w jej życiu są nadrzędne, a także czy i w jakim stopniu wybrane czynniki socjodemograficzne różnicują w omawianym zakresie uczniów, przeprowadzono badanie, z wykorzystaniem metody sondażu diagnostycznego. Jako narzędzie posłużyła Lista Wartości Osobistych autorstwa Zygfryda Juczyńskiego. Łącznie przebadano 375 uczniów szkół gimnazjalnych z terenu województwa lubelskiego. Deklarowane przez młodzież wartości osobiste najczęściej odnosiły się do rodziny, przyjaciół, dobrego zdrowia. Wartości hedonistyczne były przez badanych wybierane rzadko, przypisywano im także niskie rangi. Czynniki socjodemograficzne, jak miejsce zamieszkania, wykształcenie rodziców oraz subiektywna ocena sytuacji materialnej rodziny, różnicowały uczniów jedynie w wyborach pojedynczych symboli szczęścia i wartości osobistych. Płeć nie stanowiła czynnika różnicującego badanych w omawianym zakresie. Sfera aksjologiczna podlega stałym przemianom społecznym, kulturowym, edukacyjnym. Ważne wydają się więc działania dążące do wychowania w zgodzie z wartościami uniwersalnymi.

    The purpose of the paper is to identify the axiological “image” of housing, perceived by students, taken as a specific group of respondents, offering an opportunity to visualise the cultural changes taking place in modern society. A CAWI survey was used with a non-random sample of 407 university students nationwide. The article is based on Gutman’s means-end chain method and Schwartz’s basic values theory. The respondents are as traditional as their parents and grandparents, with tradition, conformity and security dominating in the area of housing, with very low trust in other people. Respondents’ strong pro-ownership attitudes predominated in the group of values that constitute self-enhancement, such as power, achievement and hedonism. Any shared space is accepted by only 11% of respondents.

    W artykule tym prezentuję wyniki moich badań socjologicznych, które ukazują postawy i oceny jako składniki świadomości, licealistów i studentów wobec miejsca godności człowieka w hierarchii wartości podstawowych uznawanych i realizowanych oraz wobec wartości postulowanych przez młodzież do akceptacji i realizacji w społeczeństwie polskim. Do wartości podstawowych respondenci włączają też godność osobową człowieka. Badania te zrealizowałem w 2011 roku wśród 456 licealistów w Kaliszu i wśród 426 studentów uniwersytetu w Poznaniu. W całej zbiorowości było 508 kobiet i 374 mężczyzn. Badania wykazały, że dzisiejsza polska młodzież w zdecydowanej większości (80%) godność człowieka postrzega jako wartość podstawową, która jest konieczna w osobistym i społecznym życiu ludzi. Jednocześnie młodzież badana wie, że godność ta nie jest wartością stałą w życiu każdego człowieka, gdyż ciągle zagrażają jej różne czynniki, zaniżają jej znaczenie lub powodują zanikanie. Respondenci zaznaczają, że niektórzy Polacy nie dostrzegają w godności ludzkiej wartości podstawowej, lekceważą jej rolę i znaczenie we własnym życiu indywidualnym i społecznym. Respondenci chcą, żeby godność ludzka odzyskała właściwe miejsce w hierarchii wartości podstawowych i uroczystych, uznawanych i realizowanych w polskim społeczeństwie. Godność zapewnia ludziom wolność osobistą, poczucie własnej wartości i bezpieczeństwa, właściwych relacji z innymi osobami i grupami społecznymi, nadaje sens ich życiu. Troszcząc się o własną godność, jednostka powinna także akceptować i szanować godność osobową każdego człowieka.
    In this article, I present the result of my sociological research, which shows the attitudes and assessments, as components of consciousness, of high school students and university students as to the place of human dignity in the hierarchy of basic values recognized and implemented, and of the values postulated by young people for acceptance and implementation in Polish society. The respondents include human dignity within basic values. I carried out these studies in 2011 among 456 high school students in Kalisz and among 426 university students in Poznan. The total number of the respondents was 508 women and 374 men. The research shows that today’s Polish youth in the predominant majority (80%) perceives human dignity as a basic value which is necessary in the personal and social life of people. At the same time, the youths in the study know that human dignity is not a permanent value in the life of every human being, because it is constantly threatened by various obstacles that underestimate its meaning or cause its disappearance. The respondents also point out that some Poles do not perceive basic values in human dignity, they neglect its role and significance in their individual and of the social lives. The respondents want human dignity to regain its rightful place in the hierarchy of the basic and solemn values, recognized and implemented in the Polish society. Dignity guarantees people personal freedom, self-esteem and security, correct relationships with other people and social groups, gives meaning and purpose to their lives. Individuals, caring for their own dignity, should also accept and respect the personal dignity of every human being.

    Obecna sytuacja kultury muzycznej społeczeństwa polskiego wymaga skutecznej edukacji dzieci i młodzieży, prowadzonej przez dobrze wykształconych nauczycieli. Jednak od wielu lat kandydaci na te kierunki studiów wykazują niski poziom wyjściowy swoich umiejętności i zainteresowań muzycznych. Nadrobienie tych braków w czasie studiów wymaga odważnych działań kadry pedagogicznej uczelni i podjęcia wzmożonych wysiłków na rzecz budowania wysokiej kultury muzycznej przyszłych nauczycieli. Oczekiwaną skuteczność działań nauczyciela w procesie wychowania muzycznego gwarantuje właściwa relacja między nauczycielem a uczniem oraz wyraźna w tych kontaktach identyfikacja nauczyciela z przekazywanymi wartościami.
    The present situation of the musical culture of Polish society requires effective education of children and adolescents provided by well-educated teachers. However, for many years, candidates for these fields of study have shown a low initial level of their musical skills and interests. Making up for these shortcomings when studying requires courageous actions by the university’s teaching staff and intensified efforts to build a high musical culture of future teachers. The high effectiveness of the teacher’s actions in the process of music education is guaranteed by the appropriate relationship between the teacher and the student, as well as the teacher’s clear identification with the values conveyed in these contacts.
