Opis:
In this paper we collect some results about boundary Dirichlet control problems governed by linear partial differential equations. Some differences are found between problems posed on polygonal domains or smooth domains. In polygonal domains some difficulties arise in the corners, where the optimal control is forced to take a value which is independent of the data of the problem. The use of some Sobolev norm of the control in the cost functional, as suggested in the specialized literature as an alternative to the L2 norm, allows to avoid this strange behavior. Here, we propose a new method to avoid this undesirable behavior of the optimal control, consisting in considering a discrete perturbation of the cost functional by using a finite number of controls concentrated around the corners. In curved domains, the numerical approximation of the problem requires the approximation of the domain Ω typically by a polygonal domain Ωh, this introduces some difficulties in comparing the continuous and the discrete controls because of their definition on different domains Γ and Γh, respectively. We complete the existing recent analysis of these problems by proving the error estimates for a full discretization of the control problem. Finally, some numerical results are provided to compare the different alternatives and to confirm the theoretical predictions.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of a comparative analysis of the two methods of statistical quality control of products. That two methods differ from each other mainly by a way of determining a subset of products subjected to inspection. The first of the two methods, hereinafter referred to as the completely random method, is to draw a certain number of products for control of the entire products population. The second method, called the method of drawing from partitions, is a pre-split across the specific products population into smaller parts, called partitions, and then create a representation (sample) of the products subject to control by drawing the products from each partition. The main result of this study is to determine the conditions for which the effectiveness of quality control methods with drawing from partitions is not less than the efficiency of the method with fully random drawing, whereby the efficiency criterion is the likelihood of the event, consisting in the fact that there is at least one incorrect product among the drawn products. The considerations were illustrated by numerical examples, designed to compare the effectiveness of the analyzed methods of quality control.

This paper presents a validation study of a new questionnaire of self-control as an individual trait. The questionnaire has two parallel versions, one based on self-reports (AS-36) and another one based on informant reports (AS-36-3). Each version consists of three subscales, called Inhibition (12 items), Switching (12 items), and Goal Monitoring (12 items). Eight samples of participants (N = 935 altogether) took part in the validation study. Both versions obtained satisfactory indices of internal consistency, assessed with Cronbach’s alpha and split-half coefficients. Selfcontrol assessed with this scale proved to be entirely independent of general intelligence. However, AS-36 and AS-36-3 scores tended to correlate with other self-report measures of trait self control, such as Tangney, Baumeister, and Boone’s (2004) self-control scale. We conclude that AS-36 is a valid and reliable tool, suitable for assessment of self-control in both research and diagnostic settings.

Opis:
The paper describes a nonlinear controller design technique applied to a servo drive in the presence of hard state constraints. The approach presented is based on nonlinear state-space transformation and adaptive backstepping. It allows us to impose hard constraints on the state variables directly and to achieve asymptotic tracking of any reference trajectory inside the constraints, despite unknown plant parameters. Two control schemes (with and without integral action) are derived, investigated and then compared. Several examples demonstrate the main features of the design procedure and prove that it may be applied in case of motion control problems in electric drive automation.

Abstract MAVs (Micro Air Vehicles) have attracted more and more attention in recent years because of their wide applications, such as investigations of inhospitable environment, nuclear or hazardous material polluted regions and other inaccessible areas. In this paper, both attitude and altitude controls of a Quad-Rotor type MAV are discussed and analyzed. To stabilize the attitude, one order memory based controller is selected, the performance of which is independent of the detail model information, leading to enhanced robustness. While for the altitude, a Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller is proposed. The experimental results of the real flight demonstrate the stability and robustness of the controllers.

This paper presents predictive speed control of induction motor. The structure with finite control set and long prediction horizon is proposed. In methods with finite set of solutions there is assumed the use of signals that can be obtained in inverter only. Long prediction horizons allow better performance of predictive control structures to be achieved. In this case, long prediction horizon refers to systems with more than one prediction step. The weighting factors determine the properties of control structure via an optimization method using genetic algorithms. The results of simulation studies has been presented.

Opis:
This paper presents the control designs for an autonomous forklift vehicle that drive the vehicle from an initial configuration to a final one. Three stabilization controls, which are chained-form time-varying control, sigma-transformed discontinuous control, and navigation-variables-based discontinuous control, for a forklift vehicle are compared by simulations. The sigma-transformed and navigation-variables-based discontinuous controls provide fast convergence motions from an initial to a final configuration, while the time-varying-based control provides oscillatory motion and slow convergence. The sigma-transformed discontinuous control has a set of discontinuous points in which, from a practical point of view, the control signals can blow up if a vehicle enters the set. The navigation-variables-based control, which also has a discontinuous point at the final configuration, does not produce blown up control signals since its boundedness nature. Discussion on the implementation of control algorithm is elucidated for the three stabilization controls for the forklift vehicle.

Opis:
An iterative method for time optimal control of a general type of dynamic systems is proposed, subject to limited control inputs. This method uses the indirect solution of open-loop optimal control problem. The necessary conditions for optimality are derived from Pontryagin's minimum principle and the obtained equations lead to a nonlinear two point boundary value problem (TPBVP). Since there are many difficulties in finding the switching points and in solving the resulted TPBVP, a simple iterative method based on solving the minimum energy solution is proposed. The method does not need finding the switching point so that the resulted TPBVP can be solved by usual algorithms such as shooting and collocation. Also, since the solution of TPBVPs is sensitive to initial guess, a short procedure for making the proper initial guess is introduced. To this end, the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated using time optimal solution of some systems: harmonic oscillator, robotic arm, double spring-mass problem with coulomb friction and F-8 aircraft.

Maximum Torque Control
Opis:
Maximum Torque Control (MTC) is a new method applied for control of induction motor drives. The drive is controlled by dc voltage supplying a converter in the range below nominal speed and by a field that weakens for a speed range above the nominal speed. As a consequence, the control is quite similar to the control of a classical separately excited dc motor. This control method could be explained as a kind of simplification of Direct Torque Control (DTC), because the switching scheme is the same as for the DTC, but the variable responsible for a torque control is constantly set for “torque increase”. This kind of control of induction motor drive is simpler than DTC because torque values need not be estimated. The proposed control method offers very good performance for 3-phase induction motors and requires smaller switching frequency in comparison to DTC and Field Oriented Control (FOC). The application of the control is widely demonstrated for a 3-phase 315 kW, 6 kV motor drive by use of computer simulation.

Inspired by the multi-agent systems, we propose a model-based distributed control architecture for robotic manipulators. Here, each of the joints of the manipulator is controlled using a joint level controller and these controllers account for the dynamic coupling between the links by interacting among themselves. Apart from the reduced computational time due to distributed computation of the control law at the joint levels, the knowledge of dynamics is fully utilized in the proposed control scheme, unlike the decentralized control schemes proposed in the literature. While the proposed distributed control architecture is useful for a general serial-link manipulator, in this paper, we focus on planar manipulators with revolute joints. We provide a simple model-based distributed control scheme as an illustration of the proposed distributed model-based control architecture. Based on this scheme, distributed model-based controller has been designed for a planar 3R manipulator and simulations results are presented to demonstrate that the manipulator successfully tracks the desired trajectory.

In the paper, a comparative analysis of control algorithms in the temperature control system for spray booths is presented. Additionally, basic technological limits which may have some influence on the quality of control are described. From technological point of view, a typical spray booth operates in two modes i.e. coating and drying, which are related to different temperature work points. In practice, it is the main reason of changes in plant dynamics, precisely changes in dynamical parameters of the spray booth. The authors analyzed other technological factors which might disturb the temperature inside the booth and finally make a painted covering worse or even useless. The main idea was to find robust control algorithms, mainly for temperature control, which make the process stable in any working point. In the final part of the paper, selected real time experiments are presented to show typical working modes of the spray booth and to proof the robustness of the developed and implemented control algorithm.

This paper addresses the problem of congestion control for transmission control protocol (TCP) traffic in the Internet. The method proposed builds on the ideas of TCP Vegas, a true feedback control approach to congestion management of TCP traffic. The new method is based on an adaptive linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) formulation which uses an extended least squares system identification algorithm combined with optimal LQG control. Simulation experiments indicate that the new technique inherits good equilibrium properties from TCP Vegas, but has much superior transient responses which, the paper argues, is important for good dynamic congestion control.
