Opis:
Leaving mono-cultural (Christian) Europe and the transition to multiculturalism which is the result of colonial and post-colonial policies of many European countries, creates new challenges in the fi eld of integration. One of the possible instruments of integration is education. Th e study presents and evaluates the current university education integration process, and there are also presented some possible scenarios for further development of this form of integration. Th e process of European integration, supported by education, includes not only the content, the programs, or courses of study, but also the system of formation the future generations of the Europeans. Applying the education as an instrument of the European integration has been performed since the nineties of the twentieth century. Nowadays it is being run in accordance with the Treaty of Lisbon and many other normative acts of the EU, aiming to create a standardized educational space in Europe. However, this raises the fundamental question of the degree of social acceptance of such the processes and their eff ectiveness. For this purpose, the study analyzes the EU political normative acts, applying the statistical data and the elements of public opinion statements published in the leading European media.

W artykule poruszony został problem dotyczący komunikacji pomiędzy nauczycielami akademickimi a studentami.
This article shows the problem of the communication between academic teachers and students. The reason for the topic was to talk to students from which it was revealed that this commu-nication is not the best. An attempt has been made to determine what factors affect effective communication and what distorts it. Students believe that factors such as age, sex or teacher's academic grade do not affect the effectiveness of communication. First of all, bad influence on communication in the opinion of students is influenced by what they describe as exaggeration, incomprehension of activities, too quiet speaking, delaying, lack of response to e-mails, little activity from the tutor and excessive stress in class. This article can help to better understand the expectations of students in communication in the teaching process.

Opis:
The subject of replenishment of infrastructure in Nigerian public universities has been of great concern to stakeholders in the educational system. How to obtain an appropriate replenishment plan that would give the desired infrastructure for a university after a certain period of time is a long-standing problem. We attempt to find a solution to this problem from an engineering perspective based on optimal control theory. The revenue generated through the payment of school fees and the costs of investment in infrastructure are used to construct the objective function. The state variables are the amount budgeted for such an investment and the stock of infrastructure, while the rate of replenishment is used as the control variable. The problem is solved by utilising Pontryagin’s principle. The dynamics of the replenishment plan is illustrated with an example. The results show that there should be a steady increase in the amount budgeted, in order to attain the desired infrastructure.

Social competences are one of the most important areas of an individual’s functioning in the surrounding environment. They are so important that, apart from knowledge and skills, they have become one of higher education’s outcomes. The level of social competence depends not only on the internal qualities of an individual but also on environmental factors. This article aims to present the findings of research concerning the level of social competences attained by students of tourism and recreation throughout their higher education and comprises quantitative and qualitative research methods. The results indicate that students show only average levels of social competence even though their academic teachers declare that education outcomes have been accomplished in this field.

The article is devoted to evaluation of criteria and indicators of the measuring of university education quality. On the basis of an expert interview of the teaching/academic staff of the Institute of Human Sciences of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, three main criteria were identified (resourses of educational activities, organization of educational activities, the results of specialist training) and their indicators (the level of teaching/academic staff, students as subjects of education, material base, information and methodological support, technologies of training and education, presentation of educational achievements, competitiveness of graduates at the job market, professional achievements of graduates). The proposed criteria and indicators of the quality of education measuring made it possible to evaluate a methodology of measuring/monitoring of university education quality, which is the innovation of our research. A wheel model, whose rung is a criterion indicator, was included in the basis of the methodology of measuring/monitoring of the quality of education. Each rung is also a separate indicator measuring scale and it is divided into ten conditional labels.

The paper deals with various aspects of university education of students of accompanying professions, especially the social, social-pedagogical and medical issues in the area of thanatology. The authors hold the view that thanatology should be taught within the education of workers of caring professions as a separate subject thus becoming an integral part of the curriculum. Education in the area of accompanying the dying has already been included in a number of accredited bachelor study programs, which is evidenced by a content analysis made by the paper authors within research. The contents of the identified subjects and the applied educational approaches are very different, though. In follow-up fieldwork research, conducted among workers of hospices and medical institutions specialized in accompanying patients in the terminal stage of their life paths, the authors analyzed the educational needs of workers engaged in direct care of clients and identified the areas felt by the workers as having the highest rate of shortfalls. The experience of workers from practice are complemented and compared with opinions of students from selected study fields of caring professions that were found out in the research. On the basis of the data obtained the authors worked out methods of teaching thanatology.

Opis:
The report attempts to present these moral dilemmas which refer to the process of commercialization in the state schools on the university level. The reflection over the issue is proceeded by a short characterization of the process of commercialization of the university education with regard to the situation in Poland in particular. For the sake of sistematization of the problem, there has been assumed a criterium: main functions performed by academic workers (excluding their research work). Here is the enumeration (in brief points) of the chosen moral dilemmas connected with the funtion of an organizer of education: – institution of public service... selling private property – mission of the university vs the problem of „job-oriented” studies – moral ambiguity of paid education – social injustice in unequal access to free education – controversy over pricing educational services The dilemmas of academic teachers can be referred to as: – seeking the „right measurement” of educational burdens – the necessity of violating the institution of Sundays – the issue of the quality of service provided – How much to demand? Accepting the „production” of social anti-elites or disloyalty against your own environment How to evaluate knowledge?

Opis:
A national radon survey was performed recently in all buildings of pre-university education in Montenegro. During the school year 2016/2017, radon (222Rn) was measured with passive detectors (Radosys, RSFV type) in 2855 ground-floor rooms of 468 buildings. The average 9-month radon activity concentrations above the level of 300 Bq/m3 were found in 728 rooms, which belong to 213 buildings, while in 111 rooms, belonging to 47 buildings, they were above 1000 Bq/m3 . Radon concentrations in the educational buildings, averaged over all sampled ground-floor rooms in a building, range from 16 Bq/m3 to 2810 Bq/m3 , with arithmetic mean (AM) = 275 Bq/m3 . They follow a log-normal distribution with geometric mean (GM) = 174 Bq/m3 and geometric standard deviation (GSD) = 2.58. There are 135 buildings with average indoor radon concentrations on the ground floor above 300 Bq/m3 and 18 buildings where they are above 1000 Bq/m3 . The influence of the nine factors (climate, urban/rural area, age of building, number of stories, building materials, basement, foundation slab, window frames, and heating) on radon concentrations in the buildings was analysed by univariate (UVA) and multivariate (MVA) methods. The univariate analysis revealed the significant relationship of the four factors: age of buildings, basement, building materials, and window frames with radon concentrations on the ground floor in the buildings, while multivariate analysis added to those factors urban/rural area and number of stories, but excluded building materials as a factor infl uencing signifi cantly radon concentrations.

The article presents an analysis of the transformations in private space and spatial practices manifested by students in connection with long-term online university education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The text includes a presentation of the results of a series of four focus group interviews carried out in 2021 via Zoom platform with students drawn from a few Polish colleges. The research sample was diversified in terms of gender, field of study, type of college, and mode of study. The research suggests key dimensions shaping the experience of remote university study: the spatial dimension, technological dimension and the organisational-educational dimension. Four basic kinds of student experiences are presented as well. The analyses also include a description of spatial practices such as: changing or adapting space for remote university education, negotiating spatial boundaries and attempts to ameliorate conflicts resulting from the interaction of diverse social roles and institutional orders in the same domestic space.

The functioning of today’s universities has been influenced by centuries of changing educational concepts. The aim of the article is to describe and examine one of them – the concept of university education by John Henry Newman, which was created in the second half of the 19th century. Newman described his educational ideal, which he wanted to put into practice while being rector of the Catholic University of Ireland in Dublin. He stated that the function of the university must be broad, it should include both practical studying and learning universal knowledge as well as the comprehensive development of students. Newman built this concept on the basis of personal beliefs, his Christian faith and ties with the Catholic and Anglican churches and experiences from studying at the University of Oxford. The article analyses the works of Newman and explores the foundations of his educational concept.

The afterthought on education is the consideration of the world of culture – the world of values. European culture is based on Aristotle`s thought. This is his metaphysics. The change of this paradigm occurs at the treshold of Modernity (N. Machiavelli) and it is followed by the thought of the Descartes; cogito. Here, the starting point is I, an individual, who undertakes the economic activity (Th. Hobbes, J. Locke). In the post-time the world of an individual undergoes the act of disintegration (contingency; R. Rorty) which can be associated with the state of “reassurance” (M. Gauchet). Today, there is no clarity as to what „education” really is.

While initially e-learning was mainly based on one-way information transfer, nowadays, among others thanks to web 2.0, the student can play a much more active role in the education process supported by modern technologies. This is done both with the use of university teaching platforms (e.g. forums, wikis) as well as open Facebook websites. The slowly growing use of various social tools in university education still raises a number of concerns and controversies among lecturers. In connection with the above, training in this area should be directed both at changing attitudes and providing specific knowledge and developing skills.
