Katyn massacre - Opis:
- Having retired, Karol Taube – officer of the Polish Navy, participant in the Polish–Soviet war as a member of the Riverine Flotilla – engaged in the research work in the Military History Bureau and as a social activist and an essayist within the Maritime and Colonial League. Working for the AHO, he wrote important works for the historiography of the Polish–Soviet War: “Zarys historji wojennej flotyll rzecznych” (1931) and “Zarys historji wojennej Pułku Morskiego” (1933). He was an active member of the scientific community of the Military History Bureau and wrote entries for “Military Encyclopedia”, edited by Otton Laskowski. Taube’s diary of the Polish–Soviet war, entitled “Figle diablika błot pińskich. Ze wspomnień marynarza” (1937), has become an important source for many of the later researchers working on the history of the Polish Navy. His scientific work was interrupted by the Second World War. He was a victim of Katyn massacre. As its result, Poland lost not only a distinguished officer of the Navy but also a promising historian and essayist.
