The aim of the paper was to evaluate a sportsperson’s body posture regarding spine position, foot arch as well as distribution of contact force on the ground of a champion training Ju-jitsu (a case study). A study of somatic characteristics has been carried out, namely height, body weight, length and width of feet and the area of foot sole. The level of longitudinal and transverse foot arch and balance of both feet has also been taken into account. The study of somatic characteristics and feet assessment have been carried out by the authors of the paper. In order to assess the level of somatic characteristics (height, body weight and BMI index) and the area of feet and the level of foot arch, own research results have been compared with Lizis’ results. DIERS Formetic III 4D system, which enables to analyse body posture, namely spine and pelvis, in a non-invasive manner that is safe both to patients and medical personnel, has been used to assess spine and body posture. The results are very accurate and thanks to rapid image transmission to computer software, data analysis has been carried out immediately after test performance.

The aim of the article is to present selected aspects of academic assessment as an element of a hidden curriculum. Based on the literature on the subject, the results of the research will be presented showing how the assessment system, deep rooted in educational environment, generates unplanned educational outcomes, including a surface approach to learning and various strategies of coping. Proposals of alternative solutions in evaluation procedures will be presented, involving active involvement of students in designing, managing and checking the effects of their own work. The new assessment culture should support the learning process and reduce the gap between the explicit and hidden curriculum.

Aggression between siblings is one of the most common – and the most downplayed – forms of aggression in the family. It is seen as natural and harmless. In fact, research has shown that such aggression leaves lasting scars in the child’s mind and affects functioning in adult life. Objective: investigate correlations between the perceived quality of the family environment, the experience of aggression in the family, including aggression between siblings, and the level of aggression in adult life. Method: 201 respondents – 167 women and 34 men, aged 19–36 years – took part in the study. To measure the variables under analysis, the respondents were asked to complete a questionnaire designed for this study, which included questions about aggression and violence between parents, parental aggression towards children, and the use of punishment in parenting; the Family Assessment Scale (FACES-IV) by David H. Olson, adapted by Andrzej Margasiński (2009, 2015); and the Aggression Questionnaire by Buss and Perry (1992), adapted by Aranowska, Rytel and Szmar (2005). Results: experience of domestic violence was shown to be related to the assessment of family functioning along four dimensions: cohesion, flexibility, communication and satisfaction. The data also showed that aggression was engendered by models of aggression, that is, by observing aggression between parents and by experiencing parental (especially paternal) violence. Unexpectedly, punishment turned out to be significantly correlated with all dimensions of family assessment – it was positively correlated with each of the manifestations of aggression under analysis. It was also demonstrated that while certain types of punishment were associated with specific manifestations of aggression (e.g. physical punishment with physical aggression, reprimands with verbal aggression, etc.), one type of punishment – screaming/threats/ insults – was significantly correlated with each of the analysed dimensions of aggression and was the only one associated with the tendency to react with aggression in relations with siblings.

In the text a critical reflection is undertaken on the evaluation of school assessment systems treated as a social category, “pulsating” due to its relation to its changeable context. Analyses have revealed an extensive realm of reduction of meanings and values carried out in the course of assessment systems creation and design, and throughout performance of their evaluation. One of the effects of those actions is dissonance between records in documents and their practical dimension. In turn, the picture of school reality, simplified and subjected to external evaluation procedures, does not so much block a change it does not make it possible to recognise its need should it not fall within the need to meet uniform requirements of the state regarding education. The same logic results in internal evaluation in the school assessment system being granted the status of undisputed yardstick for the educational reality, which, should such a need arise, must be changed for them to better match the procedures formulated in the document. The text concludes with a question on the need of assessment and values connected with it, the reading of which in the context of specified horizon of meanings may prevent assessment systems from their axiological dimension being reduced, or solidify the current form confined to a set of procedures, whose deeper sense is not reflected on by anyone at school. The latter option does not imply elimination of problems with assessment but those problems remaining unspoken of and their further increase.

The first self-assessments of nuclear security culture in a medical facility in Poland (2017–2018) have become the milestone for this small organization. It enabled the personnel to understand nuclear security culture and encouraged the managers to plan further improvements in nuclear security culture in the future. The research project titled “The Enhancement of Nuclear Security Culture in Medical Institutions Using Radioactive Sources and Materials” was conducted by Poznan University of Technology, with strong support from the IAEA. According to that project the first part of the article presents and explains the substance of the nuclear security culture, and also shows the differences between concepts of safety culture and security culture. The next part of the article presents objectives, describes the methodology as well as the results of work carried out as part of the research and development project. The content of the last part of the publication results from the author’s research experience, as well as lessons learned in the field of security culture.

The article discusses the possibility of using low-stakes tests to assess teaching effectiveness measures (educational value-added, EVA) for primary schools in Poland. It was shown that EVA, calculated using the results of the OBUT test for diagnosis of skills of third grade pupils, which is voluntary for schools, and the Sprawdzian – external examination conducted in the sixth grade, can be a valuable tool for evaluation, provided that the third-grade test is conducted and assessed in accordance with the procedures. The authors identified problems in this field. Disturbing characteristics of the OBUT test may suggest that these procedures have not been complied with in every school. For this reason, the authors recommend changes in the implementation of such diagnoses of school achievements.

Public space is an important element of urban structure, playing various spatial, social and economic roles in towns/cities. Its quality influences the quality of life of the inhabitants and the attractiveness of the town as a whole. Public space located in town center is the most representative of its identity and image, and also serves multiple functions and activities. The quality of urban space depends on different factors, which have been discussed in professional literature for the last few decades. The author of this paper developed a model for assessment of the quality of public space in town centers based on studies of methods already used in Poland and abroad, and the analysis of trends and ideas which should be taken into consideration while constructing a set of criteria for assessment methods. The main goal of this paper is to present the methodology of research on the quality of public space in town centers using this model. An important element of the model is the proposed method of delimiting the research area – the town center – based on identification of key public space of a town. The model comprises three methods, which can provide valuable information on the quality of public space, and also serve as a basis for constructing ratings of towns in each of these methods and the model as a whole. The research conducted using this model in chosen medium-sized towns of the Łódź region showed that the results of ratings obtained using particular methods and the whole model coincide with subjective opinions on public space in town centers given by its users and professionals evaluating it.

A noteworthy group among the national intellectual capital conceptual approaches, allowing to an assessment of the NIC level, are methods based on a model developed by L. Edvinsson within Skandia company. The model is called “Skandia Navigator” and is the one of world's first proposal of the comprehensive measuring tool to enable for an evaluation and management of the intellectual capital. The aim of the article is presentation of the significance of Skandia’s and L. Edvinsson's achievements in development of the national intellectual capital concept. In this research paper selected conceptual models NIC are analysed, which to some extent relied on Skandia’s model. The analysis was conducted paying special attention to the methodological apparatus structure and operationalization. The article is an effect of analysis main foreign literature and also aims at filling of the gap, which exists in publications about the NIC concept. As a result of the considerations set out in this article, the following conclusions can be drawn. Skandia Navigator became an universal construction, irrespective of the size and type of the object of analysis. Edvinsson’s model is constantly used as the foundation of assessment instrument in significant amount of scientific studies and reports for intellectual capital researches at the macroeconomic level. Original structure and assumptions of the method are slightly modified, but the changes depth never transform strongly Skandia prototype. This group of methods are easy to adapt and modify, what allow to adjust of the conceptualzation and methodology to the author's intentions and specific object of analysis. On the other hand, the ease of adaptation to identified conditions and applications may disclose the imperfections of the Skandia’s methods. Analyzed conceptual models consists of four components in this research paper. In each of them appeared human capital. The development capital was the second, next to market and process capital, most common distincted element in NIC models. L. Edvinson’s solutions (Skandia Navigator and Skandia Value Sheme) have been the pillars of many attempts of NIC assessment.

The aim of the research wasthe relationship between cognitive assessment of the conflict situation, emotional reflection of the situation and examining the coping strategies of parents in the conflict situation and the presence of aggressive coping strategies of adolescents in social conflict situations. In the research the author took advantage of the Stress Appraisal Questionnaire (KOS) D. Włodarczyk, K. Wrześniewski, the Three-Factor Inventory of Personality States and Traits (TISCO) by C. Spielberger, K. Wrześniewski, the author's questionnaire for examining the parental strategy as perceived by a child (SRwSK) and the author’s questionnaire testing the adolescent coping strategies in a social conflict situation (KSMK). Empirical studies were carried out in junior high schools in Wroclaw and the surrounding area. They involved 893 adolescents (468 girls and 425 boys) aged 13–15. Analysis of the research results has proven that assessing a situation as a threat intensifies the aggression strategy of adolescent coping in a social conflict situation. The research shows that adolescents participation in a situation when realization of their own aspirations are in danger intensifies negative emotions. Aggression is a form of coping with anger and anxiety felt in a social conflict situation. It was found that parents who apply a strategy based on aggression contribute to the modelling of aggressive strategies used by young people. It should be noted that sex plays an important role in the modelling. Impacts made by a parent of the opposite sex which favours the strategy of aggression developed by adolescent young people was also noted.

In this paper, we examine key factors that influence the risks of investment in the development of human capital of a firm in the IT sector and estimate their weight in the overall risk. In particular, we single out the risk of premature voluntary termination of an employee, the risk of ineffective training, and the risk of a firm’s incorrect employee development strategy. Moreover, to support management of the mentioned kinds of risks, we enumerate the factors that influence them and classify those factors into three main groups: related to the employee, related to the firm, and related to the external environment. Based on this division, we build a model for estimating the risks of investing in the development of personnel using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP).
