The goal of the article is to introduce school books as a possible object of study of contrastive discourse linguistics. The analysis of selected German and Polish history textbooks for the level Oberstufe II/Liceum provides, thanks to its contrastiveness, information about similarities and differences (or gaps, fr. le non dit) between the presented knowledge about neighbouring countries and binational relationships. The imparted knowledge order can be recognized at the word-level, in text strategies, text-image relations, and at the level of discourse. The article outlines several examples of these kinds of knowledge manifestations distinctive for Polish-German affairs. The result of the multi-level analysis serves to elicit the role of a textbook as a knowledge-canonising medium and its influence on formation of the normalization discourse as well as to criticize this medium especially in consideration of meta-linguistic aspects.
Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na podręczniki szkolne jako na przedmiot badawczy kontrastywnej lingwistyki dyskursu. Analizie poddane zostały wybrane niemieckie i polskie podręczniki do historii na poziomie liceum/Oberstufe II. Analiza kontrastywna dostarcza informacji o podobieństwach i różnicach (także o „lukach treściowych”) występujących w sposobie przedstawiania wiedzy o danym kraju i o wzajemnych relacjach polsko-niemieckich. Porządek wiedzy obecny w polskich i niemieckich podręcznikach można wyśledzić w oparciu o zjawiska występujące na płaszczyźnie słowa, w strategiach tekstowych, relacjach tekst – obraz oraz na płaszczyźnie dyskursywnej. Wyniki analizy wielopłaszczyznowej wskazują na szczególną rolę podręczników w kształtowaniu kanonu wiedzy oraz dyskursu o normalizacji stosunków polsko-niemieckich, uwzględniają one przy tym także aspekty metajęzykowe.

The combination of linguistics and cultural analysis leads back to Wilhelm von Humboldt’s concept of linguistic worldview. In it, a direct connection between thinking and speaking (in a particular ethnic or national language) is presupposed, thus implying the influence of languages on cultures. In contrast to this postulate of the unity of languages and cultures, discourse-sensitive linguistics shows the diversity of varieties within ethno- or national-language-demarcated cultures. Linguistics in cultural studies thus escapes the danger of hypostasis of languages and cultures and methodologically becomes an integrative linguistics in which systemic, pragma- and sociolinguistic methods can be incorporated. Discourse-sensitive cultural linguistics analyzes cultures according to thematic and, above all, institutional discourses (of politics, religion, law, economics, science, etc.) and examines language use down to the level of individual utterances and their linguistic microstructures within the framework of these discursive macro levels. Another type is perlocutionary discourses which almost exclusively aim at the effect of communicative actions: advertising, propaganda, scandalous discourses etc. Discourse types are shown by Russian examples, especially the Russian national hymn, the provocative performances of the group Pussy Riot as an example of scandalous discourses, and state patriotic education as an example of propaganda discourses.
Badania lingwistyczne, które stawiają sobie za cel analizę kulturową, odwołują się do koncepcji językowego obrazu świata Wilhelma von Humboldta. Koncepcja ta zakłada istnienie bezpośredniego związku między myśleniem a mówieniem (w danym języku etnicznym lub narodowym), co również implikuje wpływ języków na kultury. W przeciwieństwie do postulatu zakładającego jedność/homogeniczność języków i kultur lingwistyka zorientowana dyskursologicznie zwraca uwagę na fakt, że kultury i ich języki są zróżnicowane. W ten sposób lingwistyka kulturoznawcza chce uniknąć niebezpieczeństwa hipostazy języków i kultur, a jednocześnie staje się w ujęciu metodologicznym lingwistyką integrującą, która uwzględnia metody z zakresu analizy systemu języka, jak i z zakresu pragma- oraz socjolingwistyki. Lingwistyka kulturoznawcza zorientowano dyskursologicznie porządkuje kultury według dyskursów tematycznych, a także instytucjonalnych (dyskursy polityki, religii, prawa, ekonomii, nauki itp.) oraz bada użycie języka aż do poziomu wypowiedzi indywidualnych i ich językowych mikrostruktur przez pryzmat ich funkcji w dyskursie. Innym rodzajem są dyskursy perlokutacyjne, które niemal wyłącznie dążą do wywołania u odbiorcy określonego efektu: reklama, propaganda, dyskursy skandalu itp. Istotę wymienionych rodzajów dyskursu pokazano na przykładach pochodzących z rosyjskiego obszaru językowo-kulturowego, w szczególności na przykładzie hymnu narodowego Rosji, prowokacyjnych wystąpień grupy Pussy Riot, które uznajemy za przykład dyskursów skandalu, oraz państwowej edukacji patriotycznej uchodzącej za przykład dyskursów propagandowych.

The paper asks whether contrastive studies are conducted within the framework of French discourse analysis and attempts to find an answer to that question. First, the Author offers a brief overview of the origins of Polish textology and French discourse analysis, and explains the differences in how these two streams of linguistics approach comparative studies. While contrastive studies are not undertaken by French discourse analysts, recent years have seen attempts at comparing sociolinguistic behaviours using the criterion of occupation as well as cultural differences.
Artykuł jest próbą znalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy w ramach francuskiej analizy dyskursu prowadzone są badania kontrastywne. Autorka przypomina w skrócie genezę polskiej tekstologii i francuskiej analizy dyskursu, tłumacząc różnice w podejściu obu lingwistyk do badań porównawczych. Francuscy dyskursywiści nie prowadzą badań kontrastywnych; można jednak w ostatnich latach zauważyć tendencje do porównywania zachowań społeczno-językowych w aspekcie wykonywanych zawodów oraz ze względu na różnice międzykulturowe.

The article discusses the relation between lexicography and ideology. It proves that the monolingual Polish language dictionaries are designed according to the ideology of gender and that gender stereotypes can take different forms in dictionaries. The dictionaries not only reflect, but also preserve social and cultural values and rules. The analysis leads to the question, how should the ideology of gender be presented in the future, in order to avoid stereotyping?

After 1989, capitalism – as an ideology (a political system) and a set of practices concentrated in the economic sphere – has strongly shaped interpersonal relationships, linguistic acts and the social picture of the world, including its fundamental values, of Poles in general. The author of this paper makes a preliminary investigation into axio-linguistic aspects in a broader context of the issue related to the reception of the capitalist discourse in the Polish cultural and linguistic space. The connection of this ideological system with values should be considered in regard to three dimensions: 1) in the domain of crucial ideas, such as: liberty, property, individualism, on which capitalism is founded; 2) in the field of positive or negative evaluation dependent on opposite perspectives of discourse participants and related to the different constituents of the formation system, i.e. employed / unemployed, flexible contract/ junk contract, tax/ tribute; 3) in relation to the values encompassed by the Polish tradition, such as: community, justice, equality, solidarity, which can serve as reference points for the anti-capitalist (critical) discourse.

The aim of the considerations presented in this paper is to determine the specificity of movement in contemporary dance. This specificity is considered at three levels: as the relationship of body parts to each other, as the relation of the body and part of it to the stage space, and as the relation of the body and parts of it to the qualitative parameters of movement such as speed, tension and size. The research data consist of the descriptions of dance performances, which are published in printed or electronic form during the organization of conferences, meetings and dance theatre festivals.

The article refers to the theory of colour, the theory of perception, contemporary media morphosis and the postulates of multimedia stylistics. The author undertakes the presented deliberations for two reasons. Perception, remembering and learning are important for the teaching process at the university regardless of the passage of time. Both the lecturer and the student are interested in the effective acquisition of content. Multimodality as an attribute of the prevailing products of contemporary culture should be the subject of interest for discourse linguistics. The author’s research goal is to examine the effectiveness of font colours used in academic Power Point slides. In a multimedia presentation as a form of a lecture, a public reception takes place, alongside listening with reading and watching. The synergy of the spoken word and the bit-based text occurs. The author puts forward the claim that colour can be a factor in supporting or losing the listener’s directional attention. The second claim is that a colourful area, or a background for a printed text, is different from the colour of the font used in a text that students are required to read and watch from a distance. When the lecturer stands in front of the audience, they can manage its attention through various means. One of them is visualization in the form of the font colour choice within the slide. The article is a proposal of a certain type of research, but the author also presents the results of an experiment. Its results allow to reject the dominant role of the text placed on the slide. Some students correctly recalled the information conveyed only in the spoken form.

Contemporary text linguistics once again faces the necessity to ask itself a question about the object of its study. The reason for it is the existence of new definitions of text in which text is understood as a process and not as a product, as well as the developing studies of discourse and its social, political, cultural, and ideological determinants. In the present article I attempt to defend the traditional understanding of text as a product, not at the same time negating the necessity of studying communicative and pragmatic processes of discourse determinants. In order to achieve this I use three concepts which, when treated as different aspects of the same phenomenon, may help to grasp the complex object of text linguistics, which is text treated holistically as an integral phenomenon generated in the process of language communication embedded in a broad cultural context. These three concepts which I treat as a unity, and at the same time as three aspects of defining the object of text linguistics are: text, utterance, and discourse.

CDA is a developing, in our country as well, method of discourse analysis, operating in a wide borderlinebetween the humanitiesand social sciences. It emphasizes the social context of the language in use and its relations with the social reality. A methodological and interdisciplinary openness of this approach is an answer to multimodal, complex and often unclear phenomena and socio-cultural structures which contain interwoven themes from various areas and are beyond traditional disciplinary classifications. Artykuł zawiera rozważania na temat przestrzegania normy językowej w internetowym dyskursie sportowym. Obserwacji poddano gatunki internetowe związane ze sportem, np. relację online, oraz działy sportowe w portalach ogólnotematycznych. Badania pokazały, że norma nie jest przestrzegana i nie budzi to sprzeciwu (ani innej reakcji) odbiorcy. Pokazuje to zmianę w stosunku do normy w porównaniu z mediami tradycyjnymi. W ich obrębie wielokrotnie piętnowano błędy dziennikarzy sportowych.
The article contains considerations on the observance of the linguistic norm in online sports discourse. Internet genres related to sport were subject to observation, e.g. minute-by-minute sport commentary, and sports sections in general thematic portals. Research has shown that the standard is not complied with and that it does not raise objections (or any other reaction) from the recipient. This shows a change from the norm compared to traditional media. Within them, the mistakes of sports journalists have been stigmatized many times.

Depicting the feasible actions of a linguist interested in media research, the autlior presents two dominant research approaches and the problems relaled therewilh. She hypothetically distinguishes the role of a linguist - hegemonie leader and the role of a linguist - sovereign.The hegemonie approach means a clearly specified research subject, i.e. the media language, a precisely specified scope of analyses and the supremacy of research methods deriving from linguistics.The linguist - sovereign prefers an open approach, considering the appropriately selected achievements of media studies and related disciplines in his/her analyses and interpretations. He/she characterizes irt his/her own manner the media vision of the world, the stylistic diversification of media messages, media genres, placing the selected issues in a discourse perspective. The dynamics of research shaped in such manner has resulled in proclaiming a new sub-discipline within linguistics referred to as media linguistics.
